Seal explains how Jeff Beck could have been even more successful

Born in London, England back in 1963, the singer and songwriter Seal started his musical career in 1987 and already in 1991, when he released his first album, became a huge popstar especially for the hit "Crazy", becoming a number one single in several countries. In an interview with Vertex Effects (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar), the musician talked about some of his favorite guitarists of all time. He mentioned Prince and Jeff Beck, explaining that Beck could have been even more successful if he could sing. Seal explains how Jeff Beck could have been even more successful "Jeff Beck is my favorite guitarist of all time, yeah. Well, him and Prince, actually. Jeff Beck is, without a doubt, the most lyrical guitarist I can think of. It's just beautiful, what comes out of his - and him as a person, too - but what comes out of those hands, it's so pure." "I've always said that if Beck could sing, he would have been the greatest, gone down as one of the greatest performers or recording artists." "He is a great recording artist, but he would have been massive globally if he could sing it, because he wrote so beautifully, and he played so lyrically. And that was just his way of singing," Seal said. [embed class="is-loading"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x79n7yRBzjg&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ultimate-guitar.com%2Fnews%2Fgeneral_music_news%2Fjeff_beck_would_have_been_massive_globally_if_he_did_this_seal_says.html&source_ve_path=Mjg2NTksMjg2NjY[/embed] Until his death in 2023, Jeff Beck released 17 studio albums. But had sold an estimated amount of more than 5 million records worldwide. Curiously, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 by his longtime friend Jimmy Page. During his speech, Page said: “He’d just keep getting better and better and he leaves us – mere mortals”. Before becoming a successful solo artist, Beck was a member of The Yardbirds, alongside Jimmy Page for a short period. The post Seal explains how Jeff Beck could have been even more successful appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Dave Mustaine explains what bothered him about Led Zeppelin

Dave Mustaine explains what bothered him about Led Zeppelin

Formed by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham back in 1968, Led Zeppelin became one of the most important bands of all time. They sold an estimated amount of more than 200 million records worldwide and influenced a whole generation of artists, but they didn't impress the Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine that much in the late 70s. The guitarist and singer recalled in an interview with AXS TV (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar) what bothered him about the band at the time. Dave Mustaine explains what bothered him about Led Zeppelin "I remember when Led Zeppelin came around. It was the last time that they toured while John Bonham was alive. And I had heard 'The Song Remains the Same' live album, and I thought, 'These guys aren't playing good anymore.'" "Who am I to say shit? You know, I'm some little wet-behind-the-ears guitar-playing kid that's just starting, and Jimmy's the Dark Prince. I had my reasons, and he wasn't playing good, so I didn't go, 'Great record. Love this record. Love this band.' It's funny though, I've never really been able to make a connection with Jimmy. We've talked several times. I know he's a friendly person, but just never been able to connect with him," Dave Mustaine said. [embed class="is-loading"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqDs9VfSuH4&feature=youtu.be[/embed] Mustaine said "Led Zeppelin IV" is one of his favorite albums of all time Although he felt like Led Zeppelin was not that good in the late 70s, near their end, he is a fan of the band's discography. In an interview with Loudwire in 2022 he mentioned some of his favorite albums of all time. One of them was "Led Zeppelin IV", released in 1971. The album has the classics “Black Dog”, “Rock and Roll”, “Stairway To Heaven”, “Going To California” and “When The Levee Breaks”. In a conversation with The Quietus back in 2016 he talked about some of his favorite albums of all time and one of them was again, “Led Zeppelin IV”. Mustaine recalled that one of the first bands that he learned how to play on guitar was Zeppelin. “As I got more and more into them, Jimmy Page increasingly became a hero of my mine to the point that he’s by far my biggest hero. If you listened to those records, and you were able to isolate all the guitar tracks, you’d probably say, ‘Wow, this track sounds awful. Wow, that track sounds awful too.’ Not the performance. But the tone of it. But he was such a master at what he did. They were able to blend those things and give it such a unique sound,” Dave Mustaine said. The post Dave Mustaine explains what bothered him about Led Zeppelin appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Martin Barre recalls how Jimmy Page almost ruined the ‘Aqualung’ solo

The guitarist Martin Barre was a member of Jethro Tull from 1968 to 2012 when the band came to an end. When the group was reactivated in 2017 he wasn't invited by Ian Anderson to join the band again. But he was certainly a special part of the band's sound over the decades and of course, especially on their most famous album "Aqualung" released in 1971. In an interview with Guitarist, Barre recalled how Jimmy Page almost ruined the famous guitar solo of the track "Aqualung". Martin Barre recalls how Jimmy Page almost ruined the 'Aqualung' solo "(The guitar) solo was all done on the fly. I think it was take two – and if I hadn't got it in two then it would have been a flute solo. But that's when Jimmy Page, who was recording with Led Zeppelin in the basement of Basing Street Studios, came up to say hello." "He was in the control room window, waving madly. I was in the middle of the solo, and I thought, 'Sorry, but I can't stop.' And I didn't. I just turned my back. Which was a bit rude. But that was the solo on 'Aqualung.'" “Aqualung” was part of the album of the same name released by Jethro Tull back in 1971, it was their fourth studio record. It is widely regarded as a concept album featuring a central theme of “the distinction between religion and God”. Still is the band’s best-selling album with more than 7 million units worldwide. Besides the title track it also has classics like “Crossed-Eye Mary”, “Mother Goose”, “Locomotive Breath” and “Cheap Day Return”. Barre continues to tour now as a solo artist, playing songs of his career with the band and also was a solo act. Since the early 90s he has released many studio albums, one of the most recent ones being "Roads Less Travelled" in 2018. Robert Smith calls dynamic ticket pricing a “scam”

Dynamic ticket pricing is back in the spotlight after Oasis announced their reunion because that model was applied to their ticket sales in the United Kingdom. The cost of tickets fluctuates based on real-time demand and other factors, just like hotel and airline reservations. One band that always was opposed to that is The Cure, led by the singer and multi-instrumentalist Robert Smith. He called, in an interview with The Times, this model a "scam". Robert Smith calls dynamic ticket pricing a "scam" “I was shocked by how much profit is made. I thought, ‘We don’t need to make all this money.’ My fights with the label have all been about how we can price things lower. The only reason you’d charge more for a gig is if you were worried that it was the last time you would be able to sell a T-shirt." “But if you had the self-belief that you’re still going to be here in a year’s time, you’d want the show to be great so people come back. You don’t want to charge as much as the market will let you. If people save on the tickets, they buy beer or merch. There is goodwill, they will come back next time. It is a self-fulfilling good vibe and I don’t understand why more people don’t do it." “It was easy to set ticket prices, but you need to be pig-headed. We didn’t allow dynamic pricing because it’s a scam that would disappear if every artist said, ‘I don’t want that!’ But most artists hide behind management. ‘Oh, we didn’t know,’ they say. They all know. If they say they do not, they’re either f***ing stupid or lying. It’s just driven by greed,” Robert Smith said. The Cure will release next November 1st "Songs of a Lost World", their first studio album in 16 years. Keith Richards’ opinion on Prince

Keith Richards’ opinion on Prince

Besides being one of the most influential guitarists and songwriters of all time, Keith Richards is also known for being quite sincere. Even when giving his opinion on other artists, he has never had a problem saying if he didn’t like their music, sometimes being impolite when describing some of them. One of the artists he had a dubious opinion on was the late legendary singer, guitarist and songwriter Prince, who curiously already was the Rolling Stones opening act once. What is Keith Richards’ opinion on Prince Prince started his musical career in 1975 and in 1981, when he had four studio albums, he had the chance to be Rolling Stones' opening act. Although the musician was not that well known at the time, Mick Jagger was a big fan. But Keith praised and criticized Prince over the years, calling him "a true original" but also an "overrated midget" and that he was "trying to be Stevie Wonder". When Kiss tragically passed away in 2016 at the age of 57, Richards shared a message on his Twitter, praising the artist. “A unique talent. A true original. So sad, so sudden and, I will add, a great guitar player. We are all going to miss him.” This was really one of the few times he praised Prince in interviews. In his memoir "Life", released in 2010, Richards described him as an "overrated midget". In the same book he called John Lennon a "silly sod" and Elton John "an old bitch". He once compared Prince with Pee-wee Herman [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0KpfrJE4zw&pp=ygUTbGl0dGxlIHJlZCBjb3J2ZXR0ZQ%3D%3D[/embed] Richards criticized Prince a few times in the 80s, even criticizing his hit "Little Red Corvette" released in 1983, which was featured on the album "1999". In an interview with Musician magazine, Richards talked about the song, saying Prince was trying to be Stevie Wonder. "(He is) trying to be Stevie Wonder. He's got a problem with his attitude and it comes across on record. Prince has to find out what it means to be a prince. That's the trouble with conferring a title on yourself before you've proved it. That was his attitude when he opened for us on tour, and it was insulting to our audience. You don't try to knock off the headliner like that when you're playing a Stones crowd. He's a prince who thinks he's a king already. Good luck to him." A few years later, when speaking with Rolling Stone magazine in 1988, he was asked if his opinion on Prince had changed. Although this time Richards noted that he admired the musician's energy, he criticized him once again. "Prince, I admire his energy, but he’s riding on a wave. To me, Prince is like the Monkees. I don’t see anything of any depth in there, I think he’s very clever at manipulating the music business and the entertainment business." "I think he’s more into that than making music, I don’t see much substance in anything he does. Too much appealing to … a Pee-wee Herman trip. And I like Pee-wee Herman better than Prince. He’s appealing to the same audience. To me, it’s kid stuff," Keith Richards said. During his career, Prince released 40 studio albums and 5 live albums. He sold an estimated amount of more than 100 million records worldwide. The post Keith Richards’ opinion on Prince appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.
