Journalists at CBS News were warned to “be careful” when writing about the Israel-Gaza war in August, including avoiding referring to Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, The Free Press reported on Wednesday. Despite Congress recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in 1995 when it passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act and former President Donald Trump moving the U.S. embassy to the city in 2018, CBS News Senior Director of Standards Mark Memmott reportedly sent an email to employees, telling them, “Do not refer to [Jerusalem] as being in Israel.” “Yes, the U.S. embassy is there and the Trump administration recognized it as being Israel’s capital. But its status is disputed,” Memmott’s email added. “The status of Jerusalem goes to the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel regards Jerusalem as its ‘eternal and undivided’ capital, while the Palestinians claim East Jerusalem—occupied by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war—as the capital of a future state.” The Israeli Knesset and the homes of the Israeli prime minister and president are all located in Jerusalem, The Free Press noted. The report comes as CBS News faces backlash for editing Vice President Kamala Harris’ “60 Minutes” in a way that appeared to make the discussion less damaging for the Democratic nominee. The edit led to former President Donald Trump calling for an “investigation” into the news program saying, “I’ve never seen this before, but the producers of 60 Minutes sliced and diced (‘cut and pasted’) Lyin’ Kamala’s answers to questions, which were virtually incoherent, over and over again.” CBS News also forced one of its anchors, Tony Dokoupil, to meet with the network’s “Race and Culture Unit” to discuss his tone, phrasing, and body language after he interviewed leftist author Ta-Nehisi Coates about his new anti-Israel book, according to the New York Post. Many Americans concerned about the fate of our country are asking themselves why the election polls seem so close. The Chinese have a piece of wisdom that suggests an answer: To restore civil sanity and order it is first necessary to call things by their right names. Whether out of politeness or cowardice, Republicans are lame at this. As many of us have pointed out too many times to no avail, Democrats reflexively call conservatives racists, white supremacists and Hitlerites, while Republicans respond by calling them “liberals.” What is liberal about attacking, undermining, and seeking to abolish the First Amendment? Or interfering with presidential elections by mobilizing a corrupt judiciary to take the leading Republican out of the race? Or calling for government censorship of social media platforms, or privileging certain races over others? In the current presidential campaign, Democrats in the media seek to distract voters from the conditions Democrats have inflicted on them by defaming Trump as “an existential threat to democracy.” Republicans respond by referring to the fact that Democrats have “weaponized” the Justice Department. Even if a voter understands that “weaponize” does not mean providing the FBI and federal police agencies with weapons, it sorely lacks the emotional charge of Hitlerism – although that is exactly what it means. If justice is not blind but becomes a partisan force to criminalize political opponents like Trump then the logical goal of weaponizing justice is a one-party dictatorship and a totalitarian state. When Trump attempted as president to begin deporting immigration criminals, he was forced to temporarily separate their children, leaving them in the care of Border Control agents in facilities that Obama had built. He had no choice while the parents were being processed because U.S. law forbids incarcerating children for their parents’ criminal acts. Trump terminated his efforts after two months. The Democrats seized on this situation to smear Trump as a heartless Nazi, calling the Obama-built facilities they were housed in reminiscent of Auschwitz. President Joe Biden led the charge saying that Trump had ripped babies out of their mothers’ arms and then incarcerated them in “concentration camp” facilities. When Biden became president, he and his administration invited “unaccompanied minors” to make the dangerous trek through the hemisphere’s jungles with Mexican drug cartels as their guides. While Trump had separated 4,000 children for two months, the Democrats’ policy successfully lured nearly a million minors separated from their parents for an indefinite stay. In 2024 the Department of Homeland Security revealed that they had “lost” 320,000 of these children and had no way to find them. Since the cartels were active in the sex trafficking trade and in breaking America’s child labor laws it was not too difficult to guess where the missing children had been taken. It is difficult to fathom how callous the hearts of the Democrats have become. They not only lie about their political opponents but do so while pretending to care about the suffering of lost children when frankly they don’t give a damn – any more than they care about their country and its people. Israel is reportedly declining to share details about its upcoming attack on Iran with the Biden-Harris administration because it does not trust the administration. They will see the results,” Gallant told Israeli soldiers on Wednesday. “Whoever strikes us will be harmed and pay a price.” The Biden-Harris administration is trying to restrain Israel’s response to Iran because a full-blown war between the two could significantly impact Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign for a variety of reasons. Inflation came in hotter than expected in the final Labor Department report before the presidential election less than four weeks away. The consumer price index, which measures the general cost of goods and services across the country, increased 0.2% in September when seasonally adjusted, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released Thursday morning. Eggs were 8.4% higher, nearly 40% more expensive than a year ago. Butter was 2.8% higher, nearly 8% more expensive than a year ago. Energy prices fell 1.9% in September. Gasoline prices fell, but electricity and natural gas prices ticked up. This bumped the annual inflation rate up to 2.4%. Both numbers were 0.1 percentage point higher than the Dow Jones expectations. Meanwhile, jobless claims also jumped following Hurricane Helene’s devastation in North Carolina and several other areas. Unemployment filings hit 258,000 for the week ending October 5, the highest since last year at the beginning of August. This was 33,000 more jobless claims than the previous week and much higher than the predicted 230,000. Food and housing prices especially jumped. Food saw a 0.4% rise, while shelter saw a 0.2% rise in cost. The “core” index, which takes out the more volatile prices of food and gas, also ticked up more than expected, 0.3% over the 0.2% growth economists expected, and 3.3% higher than a year ago. The stock market saw a dip Thursday after the report was released. The numbers show that the “Biden-Harris administration was never able to get this issue under control and back to the Federal Reserve’s target rate,” Alfredo Ortiz, CEO of the Job Creators Network, said in a statement. “Under the Biden-Harris administration, inflation increased by a total of 21%. Instead, they got a helping hand in the form of the caregivers who always have their back. This was certainly the case for the animals at St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park. In order to keep their animal friends safe, many of them were temporarily moved indoors. That way, they would be kept away from all of the flooding.
