Head Of Paramount, CBS Owner, Backs Anchor Reprimanded For Questioning Ta-Nehisi Coates

The media mogul who chairs Paramount Global, owner of CBS News, is standing by a “CBS Mornings” anchor who questioned woke activist Ta-Nehisi Coates about his new book on the Israel-Gaza conflict. Shari Redstone, who brokered a deal earlier this year to sell Paramount along with CBS to Skydance, called the decision to reprimand anchor Tony Dokoupil “a mistake,” The Hollywood Reporter reported. Redstone, speaking at a panel during Advertising Week, said she believed Dokoupil “did a great job with that interview.” “I was very proud of the work that he did,” she added. “Yes, as hard as it was for me to go against this company, I think they made a mistake here.” “I just want to be clear that I’ve been working with the CEOs,” she continued, according to THR. “I’ve been working with the woman who does a lot of our diversity training, and I think we all agree that this was not handled correctly, and we all agree that something needs to be done. I don’t have, you know, editorial control. I am not an executive, but I have a voice in our platform, like all of us.” Redstone also said during the panel: “I think the most important thing that can come out of this is that we all recognize that we need to provide a platform where people can have a voice, where they can have civil discourse, where they can challenge each other, and we need to make sure that we give equal opportunity for this regardless of what side of the issue you’re on.” “I’m very glad that we had this person on our show,” she added, referring to Coates. “I’m very glad that we gave him an opportunity to speak, but we have to also provide the opportunity to challenge him on what he says, just like we challenge everybody else.” Dokoupil came under fire at the network after he pressed Coates on his new book, “The Message,” which portrays Palestinians as perpetual victims. “For as sure as my ancestors were born into a country where none of them was the equal of any white man, Israel was revealing itself to be a country where no Palestinian is ever the equal of any Jewish person anywhere,” Coates wrote in his book, according to CNN. Dokoupil, who is Jewish, pressed Coates on this particular framing. “I have to say, when I read the book, I imagine if I took your name out of it, took away the awards, the acclaim, took the cover off the book, publishing house goes away, the content of that section would not be out of place in the backpack of an extremist,” Dokoupil said in the interview, according to CNN. Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! Dokoupil also pushed Coates to answer why he left out so many facts in the book that are beneficial to Israel. “Why leave out that Israel is surrounded by countries that want to eliminate it? Why leave out that Israel deals with terror groups that want to eliminate it?” Dokoupil asked. After the interview, CBS employees complained that Dokoupil was too mean to Coates, and the anchor was forced to meet with the network’s “Race and Culture Unit,” The Daily Wire reported. Following this meeting, Dokoupil met with staffers and told them he “regretted putting his colleagues in that position especially the ones overseas and in danger,” an insider at the network told the New York Post. “There were tears. [People were] very upset,” the source told the Post, saying that staffers were “divided” on the situation in Israel and “troubled” by Dokoupil’s questioning of Coates. Sources told the Post that Dokoupil didn’t apologize for his questioning. RELATED: CBS Hires, Cancels ‘DEI Strategist’ To Counsel Journalists Upset By Questioning Of Ta-Nehisi Coates

University Instructor Placed On Leave After Saying Men Who Don’t Vote For Kamala Should Be Shot

An instructor at the University of Kansas has been placed on administrative leave after he was recorded telling his class that men who don’t vote for a female president should be shot. The instructor, who has not been named, made the comments during a class earlier this semester – a video of which was posted to X on Wednesday morning. “[If you think] guys are smarter than girls, you’ve got some serious problems,” the instructor said in the video. “That’s what frustrates me. There are going to be some males in our society that will refuse to vote for a potential female president because they don’t think females are smart enough to be president. We could line all those guys up and shoot them. They clearly don’t understand the way the world works.” Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! “Did I say that? Scratch that from the recording,” he added. “I don’t want the deans hearing that I said that.” Seriously ⁦@UnivOfKansas⁩? You’re letting this be said in your classrooms? That men who won’t vote for Kamala Harris for President should be lined up and shot?? ⁦@RogerMarshallMD⁩ ⁦@JerryMoran⁩ pic.twitter.com/7hHihxScEg — Ned Ryun (@nedryun) October 9, 2024 In a statement to The Daily Wire, the University of Kansas said the instructor had been placed on leave, “pending further investigation.” “The instructor offers his sincerest apologies and deeply regrets the situation,” Erinn Barcomb-Peterson, the school’s director for news and media relations, told The Daily Wire in an email. “His intent was to emphasize his advocacy for women’s rights and equality, and he recognizes he did a very poor job of doing so. The university has an established process for situations like this and will follow that process.” Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) shared the video on X, calling it “disturbing.” “Disturbing video from a @UnivOfKansas professor,” Marshall said. “Anyone saying men who don’t vote for Kamala Harris should be ‘lined up and shot’ is deranged and shouldn’t be around students nor academia. I trust that the @UnivOfKansas will take immediate action and fire this professor.” Disturbing video from a @UnivOfKansas professor. We could line all those guys up and shoot them.” KS Regents: We educate leaders, build communities, and make discoveries that change the world. Kobach (@KrisKobach1787) October 9, 2024 It is unclear whether the instructor would have made the same comments if the Republican presidential nominee was a woman. It is also unclear how he thinks voting for someone just because they are a woman is not, in itself, sexist.

Qantas Apologizes For Showing Graphic R-Rated Film On Every Screen During Flight

Australian airline Qantas has issued an apology following an incident it had on a flight from Sydney to Tokyo when all of the screens started playing a sexually explicit R-rated movie with no option to turn it off. “Our crew members had a limited list of movies that they were able to play across all screens on the aircraft and based on the request from a number of passengers, a particular movie was selected for the entire flight,” the statement shared with CNN on Tuesday said. “The movie was clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight and we sincerely apologize to customers for this experience,” a Qantas spokesperson told the outlet. “All screens were changed to a family friendly movie for the rest of the flight, which is our standard practice for the rare cases where individual movie selection isn’t possible. We are reviewing how the movie was selected.” The official statement did not reveal the name of the film in question, but that information was available from social media users who confirmed it was the 2023 drama “Daddio.”  Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! The film, which stars Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn, is rated R “for language throughout, sexual material and brief graphic nudity.” The movie reportedly features “references to oral sex, masturbation” and a “brief but clear photo of erect penis on phone screen. Photos of a woman’s naked breasts. Explicit sex-related dialogue and texting,” according to a review cited by CBS News. “The movie they played was extremely inappropriate,” one passenger posted on Reddit. “It was impossible to pause, dim, or turn it off… It took almost an hour of this before they switched to a more kid-friendly movie, but it was super uncomfortable for everyone, especially with families and kids onboard.” Qantas is the flag carrier of Australia and the only airline in the world that offers flights to all seven continents. It was founded in 1920, making it the third oldest airline.

‘We Didn’t Agree To That’: Walz Blasted For Call To Eliminate Electoral College

Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz sparked a wave of backlash on Tuesday when he said at a California fundraiser that he’d like to see the Electoral College abolished in favor of a national popular vote. Walz is the vice presidential candidate on the Democrats’ 2024 ticket — alongside default-presidential candidate Kamala Harris — and he made the comments at a fundraiser in Governor Gavin Newsom’s (D-CA) home. “New: @Tim_Walz calls for eliminating the Electoral College during a fundraiser at Gavin Newsom’s private residence in Sacramento. ‘I think all of us know the electoral college needs to go,’ per a pool report. ‘We need national popular vote, but that’s not the world we live in,'” CNN’s Aaron Pellish reported. Eliminate the EC. Trash the filibuster,” Washington Examiner writer David Harsanyi posted. Pack the court. Eliminate the EC.
