House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) said on Sunday that federal law enforcement officials have not ruled out the possibility that the two assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump this year were connected to Iran’s attempts to kill the former president. Turner made the remarks during an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation” with host Margaret Brennan. The interview began with Brennan trying to get Turner to condemn Trump, Eric Trump, and JD Vance for pointing the finger at Democrats for the assassination attempts. Turner refused to do so and instead said that the administration needed to be much stronger in responding to the threat from Iran against Trump. “You have had no statements from the administration towards Iran as to what that would be, which would be an act of war,” he said. “And you don’t have any statements from Vice President Harris condemning this or even recognizing that there’s an active plot from a foreign nation to kill her opponent.” “I think there’s certainly a role for her to play and for the president to play in this in both identifying that there are threats against Donald Trump that need to be acknowledged and responded to deter,” he continued. He added, “I do think that Vice President Harris needs to actively state and acknowledge that her administration is saying a foreign power, which would be an act of war is actively trying to kill her opponent.” Turner noted that the Biden-Harris administration “has made stronger statements about Iran’s hacking activities than they have about the active plot to kill Donald Trump, which the administration acknowledged is ongoing.” Am I Racist? He said that he wants the FBI to release its findings so far from its investigations into the two would-be assassins who have tried to kill Trump over the last few months. He pushed back on Brennan’s claim that there have been no substantiated ties between Iran and the would-be assassins. “Saying that there have been no substantiated ties doesn’t mean that the investigation has concluded that there are no ties,” Turner said. “And I want those investigations to come to a conclusion and determine whether or not either of these plots have any nexus or connection to the active plot the administration is saying that Iran is plotting and attempting to kill Donald Trump, which, again, this administration needs to make clear to Iran that would be an act of war and needs to have a very strong response from the administration.” WATCH:

Turner made the remarks during a CBS News interview with Margaret Brennan on “Face The Nation” when asked about how Israel should respond to the attack. “This is another area where the administration has not risen to the occasion,” he said. “President Biden said that the nuclear program of Iran is off the table, it should not be a valid military target by Israel and or the United States.” When asked if Iran’s nuclear program should be on the list of targets that Israel can hit, Turner responded: “Absolutely.” Am I Racist? Retired four-star General Frank McKenzie, the former commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East, said on Sunday that Iran was seriously trying to assassinate former President Donald Trump out of a place of “desperation” because they view him as a threat to their regime. McKenzie made the remarks during a CBS News interview with Margaret Brennan on “Face The Nation” while discussing what Israel’s response should be to Iran’s ballistic missile attack last week. “The principle goal of Iranian statecraft is regime preservation,” he said. “They view the election of President Trump as a direct threat to that regime preservation. So, I have no doubt believing that Iran is very active in its attempts to go after the former president, as well as other officials, of which I am keenly personally interested as well.” “What’s driving their behavior is desperation,” he continued. “It’s actually the same sort of desperation that drove the massive attack on Israel of three or four nights ago. They’re in a corner, and they really don’t have any good options. But they don’t want to sit still and do nothing. They do view President Trump as worse than the alternatives that could be elected.” On the matter of how Israel should respond to the attacks, he said that they had a wide range of options. He said that it will be difficult for Israel to take out Iran’s underground nuclear facility, which is buried nearly 250 feet under a mountain, because the U.S. is the only country that has large enough bunker-buster bombs to reach the target. He also slammed the Biden-Harris administration for saying that Israel should not hit Iran’s nuclear facilities. “You should never take a potential target off the menu,” he said. “You want your adversary to have to plan to defend everything. Giving him assistance and not having to defend against a particular target is probably not the best way to establish this kind of deterrence.” He said Israel should definitely consider going after Iranian oil infrastructure and going after the “Islamic Republican Guard Corps headquarters and intelligence buildings all around Tehran or anywhere else.” WATCH:

Sometimes, life will take you places you don’t expect, but totally deserve. We can say the same for Harper when her life took a 180 degree turn – from being a neglected dog rescued by an animal shelter, to being a disaster search dog, and now to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) Dog Of The Year. The ASPCA unveiled Harper as its 2024 Humane Awards Dog Of The Year recipient on September 18 along with this year’s other heroic winners. As this year’s Dog Of The Year award recipient, ASPCA shares what made Harper the cream of the crop. According to ASPCA, Harper is a Black Labrador mix and was one of the 22 dogs confiscated in a hoarding and neglect case years ago. He was initially placed with the Humane Society of the Black Hills in South Dakota before being accepted into the Search Dog Foundation (SDF)’s program on January 2020. ASPCA revealed that SDF is “an organization whose mission is to strengthen disaster response in America by rescuing and recruiting dogs and partnering them with firefighters and other first responders to find people buried alive in the wreckage of disasters.“ They further revealed that SDF determined that among the 22 dogs rescued from neglect, Harper “showed great potential for becoming a disaster search dog.“ Harper then became a candidate in the pilot program to train to become a Human Remains Detection (HRD) canines for California Task Force 2 (CA-TF2). According to ASPCA, “CA-TF2 is the West Coast’s only internationally deployable task force comprised of physicians, HAZMAT specialists, rescue specialists and canine search specialists.“ And harper was one of the three HRD canines for the task force and she graduated with flying colors on May of 2021. After graduation, Harper was paired with firefighter Edward Ruiz of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. CA-TF2, including Harper and Ruiz, trained diligently until they achieved FEMA certification on July 2022. After Harper’s certification as a disaster search canine in 2022, she and Ruiz have been helping save lives and bringing closure to loved ones. ASPCA reveals that the pair have been deployed multiple times, including to Hurricane Ian in Florida in 2022 and more recently to the Lahaina fire in Hawaii. “Alongside nearly 40 other canine teams, they searched through ash and debris for those lost in the devastating wildfire that swept through the Lahaina community on Aug. 8, 2023,” ASPCA wrote. Hoomans saw the potential Harper had in her all those years ago and she has proved to them, time and time again, that she is a talented, dedicated, and hardworking dog capable of helping save lives. And for her countless contributions, the ASPCA honored her with an award only the goodest of girls and boys deserve – the ASPCA Dog Of The Year award. Matt Bershadker, President and CEO of the ASPCA said, “Our 2024 ASPCA Humane Award honorees are supporting vulnerable animals and elevating critical protections across the country, exemplifying the ASPCA’s vision of a compassionate nation where all animals are treated with respect and kindness.” “From working on the frontlines of disasters, to advocating on behalf of animals who are unable to do so for themselves, this year’s Humane Award recipients are heroes and we are grateful for their service,” he added. The 2024 Humane Awards by the ASPCA honors “both people and animal heroes from across the country who have gone above and beyond to bring attention to animal welfare and better the lives of those around them.” Harper, along with other honorees, will be formally celebrated for their outstanding contributions at a luncheon in New York City on Thursday, October 10.
