A doctor celebrated as “America’s best-known practitioner of youth gender medicine” is being sued for medical negligence by a former patient — a young girl who underwent a gender transition and now feels she was deeply betrayed.  Twenty-year-old Kaya Clementine Breen accuses Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy of fast-tracking her attempted gender transition, including puberty blockers, hormones, and a double mastectomy, when she was a young teenager.  Her lawyers argue that Olson-Kennedy, the therapist she referred Breen to, the surgeon who removed Breen’s breasts, and other medical professionals are all guilty of medical negligence for rushing Breen through procedures that have deeply and negatively impacted her future.  “Clementine is a female who suffered from a complex, multi-faceted array of mental health symptoms as a child and adolescent,” the complaint states. “She is also a survivor of multiple instances of sexual abuse as a child and adolescent, something that was never explored, addressed, or discussed by Defendants in the course of their purported treatment.” The lawsuit continues: “Her presentation of symptoms and concerns included, among other things, anxiety, depression, autism, undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), potential bipolarism, as has been suggested by one of her psychiatrists, ongoing confusion regarding her gender, and eventually psychosis (including audio and visual hallucinations), panic attacks, and paranoia. Her family also has a lengthy history of mental health issues. She needed psychotherapy to evaluate, assess, and treat her complex co-morbid mental health symptoms.” She didn’t get these things. “Instead, she was fast-tracked onto the conveyor belt of irreversibly damaging puberty blockers (age 12), cross-sex hormones (age 13), and “gender-affirming” surgery (age 14).”  “Clementine’s providers deliberately, grossly, and recklessly breached the standard of care in this case as discussed above, by among other things, failing to adequately assess and treat Clementine’s complex array of mental health symptoms and prior trauma before prescribing irreversible and life-altering medications and performing surgery,” the complaint states. “Instead, the Defendants coerced Clementine and her parents with the threat of suicide, presentation of false information, and concealment of full information, into an ill-advised experimental course of chemical/surgical imitation sex change treatment that was utterly unsupported by any reliable medical research,” it continues. “This so-called ‘treatment’ of Clementine by her providers represents a despicable, failed medical experiment and a knowing, deliberate, and gross breach of the standard of care that was substantially certain to cause serious harm.” The lawsuit is one of a number of cases brought by detransitioners in recent years. This one is particularly significant, given that Olson-Kennedy leads the Center for Transyouth at Los Angeles Children’s Hospital and is widely considered the most notable youth gender medicine clinician in the world.  Last month, Olson-Kennedy revealed to the New York Times that she purposefully stopped the publication of a $10 million taxpayer-funded study into puberty blockers and their effects on American children. Olson-Kennedy had hoped the study would show that puberty blockers improve children’s mental health, and her study found no evidence that this was the case.  “I do not want our work to be weaponized,” she told the Times. “It has to be exactly on point, clear and concise. And that takes time.” Notes from Olson-Kennedy’s meetings with Breen indicate that Olson-Kennedy immediately started Breen on the transition route during their first visit, The Economist reports. Breen had not yet met with a gender therapist nor seen a psychologist about her gender dysphoria, and Olson-Kennedy had not performed a mental-health evaluation, the publication reports.  But three months later, Breen was able to get puberty blockers. Less than a year later, according to The Economist, Olson-Kennedy prescribed her testosterone. And in May 2019, 14-year-old Breen underwent a double mastectomy, removing her breasts forever.  Olson-Kennedy reportedly told Breen’s parents that she was suicidal and would kill herself if they did not agree to cross-sex hormone therapy, the lawsuit alleges.  “At that time, Clementine had never had any thoughts of suicide, and she certainly had never expressed anything along those lines to Dr. Olson-Kenned,” the lawsuit says. “Dr. Olson-Kennedy went even further…by telling them that if they did not agree to cross-sex hormone therapy, Clementine would commit suicide.”  Olson-Kennedy also wrote in a letter to Breen’s surgeon that Breen had “endorsed a male gender identity since childhood,” The Economist reports — a statement that contradicted Olson-Kennedy’s own records, designed to indicate that Breen had long identified as a man and probably wouldn’t regret her surgery. Olson-Kennedy did not respond to requests for comment for this story. News of the lawsuit comes the same week that the United States Supreme Court heard arguments in U.S. v. Skrmetti, a case involving Tennessee’s law banning these irreversible transgender procedures for children.

Caleb Gannon will be charged with assault and battery months after he ran through traffic and tackled pro-Israel activist Scott Hayes in Newton, Massachusetts, a source with knowledge of the situation told The Daily Wire. Gannon, 31, will be charged in Newton District Court on Friday. His arraignment is set for December 30.  Gannon attacked Hayes on September 12 while the veteran was participating in a demonstration with six to eight other pro-Israel activists by holding American and Israeli flags next to a busy intersection.  Gannon has a history of inflammatory social media posts where he advocated for the destruction of the United States, refused to denounce Hamas, and labeled murdered American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin as a terrorist who “got what he deserved.” “I don’t condemn Hamas. I condemn my family,” Gannon wrote in one post about the terrorist group that killed, raped, or took hostage over 1,000 citizens from Israel on October 7. At the start of the incident, Gannon shouted his anti-Israel views at the group from across a street, calling the pro-Israel demonstrators “sick” and accusing them of “defending genocide.” He then began to charge across the street until Hayes stepped onto the street with the hand on his waistband where his lawfully possessed firearm was secured in a holster under his shirt, according to a motion filed by Hayes’s attorney.  “Hayes did not brandish or even remove his gun from this holster, yet Gannon knew that Hayes had a gun, shouting ‘Are you carrying a f***ing gun?” the motion reads. “Hayes acknowledged that he did have a gun.” Gannon backed away while making obscene gestures while Hayes started to dial 911 on his phone. This is when Gannon rushed through traffic and tackled Hayes, as caught on a video provided to The Daily Wire. Hayes then unholstered his gun and fired one shot at Gannon’s midsection. The documents go on to claim that Gannon still tried to grab Hayes’s gun after being shot and at one point “was able to turn the gun barrel toward Hayes’ face.” In another video after the incident, Hayes used his military training to give first aid to Gannon while telling bystanders to call 911. Hayes said he needed to have surgery because of the injury he suffered on his neck. Hayes was charged shortly after the incident with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and released on a $5,000 bail. He was initially given a curfew and restrictions on being in Newton as well as being ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor before he petitioned to have it removed. Hayes is still forbidden from possessing firearms, though his firearm was lawful at the time of the shooting. Hayes pleaded not guilty and said he acted in self-defense. Hayes will return to court on January 27. “I’m frustrated it took 84 days for Caleb Gannon to be charged,” Hayes said. “I’ve lost my job and many other aspects of my life have been ruined. The video evidence against him was overwhelming and he should have been charged sooner.” Before being fired, Hayes worked for a company where he provided natural gas leak detection, leak surveys, and inspections for the large Massachusetts utility provider, National Grid. After the incident, National Grid refused to let him work on their account, according to Hayes. Hayes, though not Jewish, has frequently partook in pro-Israel demonstrations since Hamas’ October 7 attack. He says it’s important to use his voice to advocate for the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza. “If my life has to be ruined for trying to help the Jewish people to survive, then that’s the price,” he previously told The Daily Wire. “It’s a much bigger issue than me. What happened to me brought a lot of local Jewish people together and got them out and active because of the reality of what’s happening.” A GoFundMe for Hayes has raised more than $267,000 since the incident.

Switzerland’s highest court has ruled that a mother and father must facilitate their daughter’s gender transition or face criminal charges, The Daily Wire has learned. The Swiss Federal Supreme Court (Schweizerisches Bundesgericht) rejected an appeal from the parents, who argued that both the Swiss Federal Constitution and international law protected their right to protect their daughter from a sex change, according to ADF International, the legal group backing the parents. They have been separated by court order from their daughter for over a year and a half because they objected to this transition attempt, according to ADF International, which said the court’s judgement was made on November 6 but embargoed until this week. The parents are considering appealing to the European Court of Human Rights in order to protect their daughter, The Daily Wire has learned. “We are heartbroken,” the father said in a statement to The Daily Wire. “We love our daughter and only want what’s best for her. We know this decision is not in her best interest.” “That we could face criminal charges for simply trying to care for our daughter shows how deeply embedded transgender ideology is in Swiss institutions and the real harms it causes,” he added. “We are considering our next steps.” The parents had appealed a July ruling from Geneva’s Court of Justice, which ordered them to turn over their daughter’s legal documents in order for the state to help her change her sex in the civil registry from female to male. She first began expressing confusion with her gender when she was around 13-years-old, according to her father. When her parents declined to put her on puberty blockers, they embarked on a years-long legal battle that resulted in the government removing her from their care. They fear that the legal “sex change” may lead their daughter to also attempt a physical sex change, including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries, according to ADF International. The parents also assert that their daughter’s mental and physical well-being is in danger while she continues to live in a government youth shelter. The Swiss Federal Supreme Court’s decision means that the parents must facilitate their daughter’s sex change or face possible criminal charges, ADF International said. “The situation complained of cannot therefore be remedied by interpretation,” the court said in its decision, according to the legal group. “Nor can it be concluded that there is a loophole per se that would have to be filled by the courts. It would therefore be up to the federal legislature, if necessary, to amend the system as it currently stands under the Act, from which the Federal Court cannot derogate, since it is not its role to interfere in matters that are the responsibility of the federal legislature. It follows that the complaint must be dismissed.” The case has received worldwide attention on social media, particularly on “X,” where Elon Musk weighed in. “This is insane,” Musk wrote. “This suicidal mind virus is spreading throughout Western Civilization.” “At every juncture, these loving parents have sought to act in the best interests of their daughter, as is their right and obligation under international law,” said Dr. Felix Böllmann, Director of European Advocacy for ADF International, in a statement to The Daily Wire.  “The court’s decision to dismiss their appeal is an intolerable violation of their rights. It has, in effect, mandated a legal ‘transition’ for the daughter against her parents’ wishes.” “Not only is this an intervention without any evidential basis of psychological benefit, but it also could pave the way for potentially irreversible physical interventions down the line,” he added.
