News She-Ra Amazon MGM’s Live-Action She-Ra Has Found Its Writer We feel pretty good about this one, honestly By Molly Templeton | Published on October 4, 2024 Comment 0 Share New Share Amazon MGM Studios has been developing its live-action She-Ra series for so long that we first covered it in 2021, when it felt awfully close on the heels of the 2021 finale of Netflix’s perfect She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Now, three years later, the new take on She-Ra has a writer attached—and it’s a surprising and interesting choice. Variety reports that Heidi Schreck has signed on as writer and executive producer. Schreck is the writer of What the Constitution Means to Me, which was a Pulitzer finalist as a play, and was later filmed and presented as an Amazon Original film with the Broadway cast—which includes Schreck as the star (pictured above). She’s also written episodes of Nurse Jackie, Billions, and I Love Dick. She has a stack of awards, including three Obies, the Horton Foote Playwriting Award, and the Hull-Warriner Award from the Dramatists Guild. None of this really screams “Fantastical superpowered princesses, up next!” but that’s part of what makes it intriguing. This new take on She-Ra is reportedly entirely unconnected to the animated series; the previously announced logline says it’s “an epic fantasy series about an orphaned young woman who leads a revolution to save her planet from annihilation.” One can only hope it still has some lightness, and isn’t a super-serious, gritty, Game of Thrones-ed up She-Ra. Director Nicole Kassell has a considerable breadth of experience (she’s directed episodes of Watchmen, The Leftovers, and The Americans, among others) and producer Robin Sweet’s resume includes time on Castle Rock, Better Call Saul, and Outer Range. It’s late in the campaign, so the network “news” programs often seem indistinguishable from the cascade of negative campaign ads that air around the harrumphing anchormen and anchorwomen. Rich Noyes at NewsBusters reported that the tone of coverage about the Trump-Vance ticket (excluding statements by politicians) from July 21 to Sept. 27 was 96% negative on ABC, 81% negative on CBS, and 87% negative on NBC. By contrast, the coverage of the Harris-Walz ticket was 97% positive on ABC, 85% positive on CBS, and 65% positive on NBC. Bias by omission is part of that math. Since the study came out, London’s Daily Mail offered an anonymous accuser who claimed she was a girlfriend of Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, when he is said to have violently slapped her face in 2012 after an event at the Cannes Film Festival in France. An allegation like that should have a name and a face before it becomes a big story. (Emhoff denied it.) ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR, and PBS skipped it. But network “news judgment” depends on who benefits. On Halloween night in 2011, Politico reported that when then-Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain headed the National Restaurant Association, it settled two sexual harassment lawsuits. Citing unnamed sources, Politico reported two unnamed women alleged Cain was guilty of conversations “of a sexually suggestive nature.” The networks leaped on that underbaked, anonymously sourced story on the black conservative. Laugh now at NBC’s Matt Lauer crowing Cain was “finding out the hard way about the attention that goes along with being a front-runner.” He meant “Republican front-runner.” George Stephanopoulos leaped on the story as a “bombshell blast,” a shameless move for the “ruin the bimbo” specialist. In the first week of the Cain scandal, ABC, CBS, and NBC combined for 84 stories on the allegations against Cain before the media would or could identify an accuser with a name or a face. Sometimes the accusers are named. Consider Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh‘s wildest accuser during his confirmation battle in 2018, Julie Swetnick, who alleged that Kavanaugh was present at a party where she was gang-raped. The networks didn’t hold back on that. Instead, we heard dopey disclaimers, like “NBC News has not independently corroborated Swetnick’s claims.” They can’t do a Democratic scandal story (like Hunter Biden‘s laptop) because “we have to independently corroborate it.” In 2020, when former Biden aide Tara Reade alleged that President Joe Biden sexually assaulted her inside the Capitol, The New York Times and Washington Post published lengthy stories investigating the charge. But ABC and NBC couldn’t spend a single second on it. CBS aired it for 63 seconds. This pattern isn’t just about sex scandals. On Sept. 27, Immigration and Customs Enforcement revealed that it estimates there are roughly 13,000 noncitizen murderers running loose in the country, and nearly 16,000 noncitizens convicted of sexual assault. “The NBC Nightly News” provided a sentence. ABC, CBS, NPR, and PBS haven’t located it. Now fast forward to Wednesday, when Judge Tanya Chutkan unsealed special counsel Jack Smith’s 165-page brief about former President Donald Trump’s actions to deny the 2020 election results and reactions to the Jan. 6 riot. ABC, CBS, NBC, NPR, and PBS combined for more than 38 breathless minutes on that “bombshell.” Excluding Democratic voters who love this partisan tilt, naive swing voters tuning into these leftist “legacy” networks are served an amazingly tilted menu of information and misinformation. Stories that could damage the GOP don’t have to be confirmed. They just have to be exploited. We consider this shameless partisan propaganda. When Joe Biden became president, the Middle East was calm. Now it is in the midst of a multifront war.So quiet was the inheritance from the prior Trump administration that nearly three years later, on Sept. 29, 2023—and just eight days before the Oct. 7 Hamas massacre of Israelis—Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, could still brag that “the Middle East region is quieter today than it has been in two decades.”So, what exactly happened to the inherited calm that led to the current nonstop chaos of the present?In a word, theocratic Iran—the nexus of almost all current Middle East terrorism and conflict—was unleashed by Team Biden after having been neutered by the Trump administration.The Biden-Harris administration adopted a five-step revisionist protocol that appeased and encouraged Iran and its terrorist surrogates Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis.The result was a near guarantee that something akin to the Oct. 7 massacres would inevitably follow—along with a subsequent year of violence that has now engulfed the Middle East.First, on the 2020 campaign trail, Biden damned longtime American ally Saudi Arabia as a “pariah.”He overturned the policies of both the previous Obama and Trump administrations by siding with the Iranian-supplied terrorist Houthis in their war on Saudi Arabia.Biden accused the kingdom of war crimes, warning it would “be held accountable” for its actions in Yemen. Biden-Harris took the murderous Houthis off the U.S. terrorist list.Almost immediately followed continuous Houthi attacks on international shipping, Israel, and U.S. warships—rendering the Red Sea, the entryway to the Suez Canal, de facto closed to international maritime transit.Worse still, by the time of the 2022 midterms, when spiraling gas prices threatened Democratic congressional majorities, Biden opportunistically flipped and implored Saudi Arabia to pump more oil to lower world prices before the November election. Appearing obnoxious and then obsequious to an old Middle East ally is a prescription for regional chaos.Second, Biden-Harris nihilistically killed off the Trump administration’s “Abraham Accords.” That diplomatic breakthrough had proved a successful blueprint for moderate Arab nations to seek detente with Israel, ending decades of hostilities to unite against the common Middle East threat of Iran.Third, Biden begged Iran to reenter the appeasing, so-called Iran Deal that virtually had ensured that Iran would eventually get the bomb.Worse yet, it dropped oil sanctions against the theocracy, allowing a near-destitute Iran to recoup $100 billion in profits. And it green-lighted $6 billion in hostage ransoms to Tehran.An enriched Tehran immediately sent billions of dollars in support and weapons to the anti-Western terrorists of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis to attack Israel, Americans, and international shipping. Iran soon began partnering with China and Russia to form a new anti-American axis.Biden-Harris also fled abruptly from Afghanistan, abandoning billions in weapons and American contractors. The humiliation thus virtually destroyed American deterrence in the Middle East, inciting enemies and endangering friends.Fourth, Biden-Harris restored hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to the West Bank and Gaza, but without any guarantees that the Palestinian Authority and Hamas would desist from their past serial terrorist acts.In the case of Hamas, U.S. and Western “humanitarian aid” simply freed up more fungible dollars in Gaza to arm Hamas and to expand its subterranean tunnel complex essential to its Oct. 7 massacres and hostage-taking.Fifth, from the outset of the ensuing increased tensions, Biden-Harris began pressuring the Israelis to act “proportionally” in responding to the massacre of some 1,200 Israelis and nearly 20,000 missiles, rockets, and drones launched at their homeland from Iran, the Houthis, Hamas, and Hezbollah.Such straitjacketing of our closest Middle East friend further signaled the Iranian-backed terrorists that there was now “daylight” between the U.S. and its closest regional ally. That opportunity provided still further incentives for Iran to test just how far it could safely go in attacking Israel.But why did Biden-Harris so foolishly ignite the Middle East?In part, the administration naively tried to resurrect the old, discredited Obama administration notion of “creative tension”—of empowering a rogue Iran and its terrorists to play off Israel and the moderate Arab regimes, as a new sort of balance of power in the region.In part, Biden-Harris was caving to increased antisemitism at home and the rise of powerful, pro-Palestinian groups on U.S. campuses and in critical swing Electoral College states.In part, Biden-Harris was naive and gullible. The two bought into the anti-Americanism and anti-Israel boilerplate of our enemies. So, they thought to make amends by seeing Iran and its terrorists as the moral equivalent of democratic, pro-American Israel.Their malignant legacy is the current Middle East disaster. DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—America First Legal on Thursday announced a lawsuit against Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes for refusing to hand over the names of over 200,000 registered voters who have allegedly not provided proof of citizenship. Fontes is breaking the law by refusing to comply with a records request that demands the names of roughly 218,000 individuals who are registered to vote but did not provide proof of citizenship, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit comes just weeks before Election Day, with former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris remaining in a dead heat in the state. “America First Legal continues to lead the fight for election integrity,” Stephen Miller, America First Legal president and former senior adviser in the Trump administration, said in a press release. “We are suing the state of Arizona for refusing to provide the list of 218,000 voters who failed or refused to establish citizenship.” “It is absolutely imperative that we stop the dire threat of illegal alien voting, which is the gravest form of foreign election interference,” Miller continued. Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer identified in September a glitch in the voter roll system that marked more than 97,000 registered voters as having provided documentary proof of citizenship—which is required under Arizona law—even though these individuals had not done so. Richer filed an emergency petition in the Arizona Supreme Court on Sept. 17 in order to prevent these voter registrants from participating in local and state elections. Fontes announced Monday that his office had discovered an additional “set of approximately 120,000 Arizonans who may be affected by a data coding oversight within [the Arizona Department of Transportation’s] Motor Vehicle Division and Arizona registration databases.” The recent disclosure puts the total number of registered voters in the state who allegedly did not provide proof of citizenship up to roughly 218,000. The 2020 presidential election in Arizona was decided by a margin of less than 11,000 votes. Immediately after Richer’s lawsuit, America First Legal filed a public records request asking the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office to hand over the list of all individuals who had unlawfully registered to vote, according to a press release from the organization. Fontes denied the request, alleging that disclosure of the names would lead to their harassment and that compiling the list would be too burdensome for staff. America First Legal argues that Arizona’s public records request laws require Fontes to produce this type of information when requested. “There have been major failures in the administration of just about every general election in Arizona from 2016 until now,” stated James Rogers, America First Legal senior counsel. “And every time anyone expresses concern, how does Secretary Fontes react? Victim blaming.” “That is not what Arizonans expect from their elected leaders. The law requires Secretary Fontes to produce these records, and AFL will work to hold him accountable until he does,” Rogers continued. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the Strong Communities Foundation of Arizona, also known as “EZAZ.org.” Fontes did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment. Some Democrats Feeling Nervous About Kamala's 'Run Out the Clock' Campaign

A new season of NBC's Law and Order premiered last night with an episode about a conservative journalist who helps his friend murder an innocent woman. The victim, Macy Harper (Antonia Timbol), is a district attorney who was prosecuting a conservative senator.  In the episode, "Catch and Kill," Harper is found brutally murdered in her home. Police initially arrest an illegal immigrant who lives in a hotel shelter nearby.  Of course, the illegal immigrant turns out to be innocent. He was wrongly suspected because he was wearing a sweatshirt that had been thrown in the trash outside Harper's home. He tells the police that he saw a white man with a beard yelling at the woman outside her house. Unsurprisingly for network television, every creepy guy from this point onward in the rest of the episode is a white man. White men must always be the perps on crime dramas nowadays. As the episode progresses, the audience learns that the biggest villains aren't just white guys. They are conservative or conservative-adjacent white guys. Jeff Sanders (Ari Blinder), the man who yelled at the victim outside her house, has posts on social media saying, "Harper sits in her liberal mansion on the Upper East Side thinking she can do whatever she wants. It's up to us to let her know that she's wrong." Sanders tells the police that the victim was "a puppet of the deep state who weaponized her position to take down [conservative] Senator Holt." He has a valid alibi though, so he is crossed off the list of suspects. Eventually, police discover that the victim's wealthy fiancée, Dylan Phipps (Bill Barrett), is the real killer. He murdered Harper because she was breaking up with him. Phipps had help from a "right-wing" journalist friend named Kenneth Lane (Michael Esper).  Phipps had abused Harper long before the night of the murder and his rage was caught on hotel cameras. Lane had bought the videos of abuse to protect Phipps. In many ways, the fictional video shown in the episode is similar to real video released this year of rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs attacking his girlfriend in a hotel hallway. Lane also provided Phipps with an alibi and helped him trick Harper into opening her door the night of the murder. As the episode makes clear throughout, Lane is arrogant and a liar. When assistant district attorneys Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) and Samantha Maroun (Odelya Halevi) stop by his office, he condescendingly refers to Maroun as "girl." Lane: Look, I already told the police what happened.  Maroun: No, you told them what you wanted them to believe. Lane: Well, your girl's got a bad attitude. Price: Excuse me? Lane: Sorry, that came out wrong. Maroun: No, I'm pretty sure that came out exactly the way you meant it.  Lane: [Sighs] I wish I could help. Macy was an amazing girl, but she and Dylan were happy. They were in love. Maroun: No, he was abusing her. Lane: What the hell are you talking about? Maroun: She was staying at a shelter for abused women. People don't go there because they're bored or to get a spa treatment.  Lane: I find that impossible to believe. In any event, I need to get back to work. So, if you don't mind-- - Maroun: One last question.  Why are you covering for this bastard? Even before the full extent of Lane's role in the murder is discovered, the episode infers he must be a bad man because he runs a popular right-wing media site. Maroun says, "Lane sells right-wing porn wrapped up as news."  Such nasty right-of-center characters are on brand for Law and Order. In real life, the Democratic presidential candidate's husband was recently accused of slapping a former girlfriend in public. Yet in Law and Order's fictional world, it is conservative men that women must fear. Left-wing Hollywood is a sea of filth and misogyny, but the entertainment industry is always projecting and accusing conservatives of being vile like them.
