Former President Barack Obama is coming to the aid of Vice President Kamala Harris in battleground states during the final stretch of the 2024 campaign. A senior Harris campaign official told POLITICO on Friday that beginning next week, Obama will start a swing-state “blitz,” speaking at rallies in support of the Democratic nominee. Obama’s first appearance on the battleground state trail will be in the Pittsburgh area on Thursday, POLITICO reported. The former president is then expected to hit multiple Rust Belt and Sun Belt states. Pennsylvania is considered one of the most important states for Harris and former President Donald Trump to win, and the current polling shows the candidates in a tie, according to RealClearPolitics. Obama’s visit to Pennsylvania will come just five days after Trump returns to Butler on Saturday to hold a rally at the site where he was shot in an assassination attempt on July 13. While Obama has not appeared with Harris at any 2024 campaign rallies, the former president has voiced his support for the Democratic nominee, including in a speech at the party’s convention in August. Following President Joe Biden’s exit from the 2024 race, Obama remained silent for five days before he joined other Democrats and threw his support behind Harris, who was crowned as the Democrats’ nominee without receiving any primary votes. At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us.” During Obama’s DNC speech, the former president praised Biden for stepping aside, claiming he set “his own ambition aside for the sake of the country.” Days before Biden dropped out of the race on July 21, however, Obama — along with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) — expressed their concerns to allies about the president’s 2024 chances, according to the Associated Press. Nearly a dozen people reportedly told the AP that Obama had a role in urging Biden to withdraw from the race after his disastrous debate performance against Trump on June 27.

The Department of Homeland Security is letting illegal immigrants who don’t present identification enter the United States and roam freely, a move the department’s inspector general says puts the country at risk. “Under current processes, CBP and ICE cannot ensure they are keeping high-risk noncitizens without identification from entering the country,” new inspector general report said. “Additionally, TSA cannot ensure its vetting and screening procedures prevent high-risk noncitizens who may pose a threat to the flying public from boarding domestic flights.” DHS does not log whether it has seen identification for aliens or merely accepted the name they verbally present, so it is unclear exactly how many aliens are admitted to the country with unconfirmed identities. But at least 13% had no documentation upon entry, the inspector general said. Any criminal background checks run against a false name, of course, would yield meaningless results. “CBP and ICE immigration officers we interviewed acknowledged the risks of allowing noncitizens without identification into the country, yet neither CBP nor ICE conducted a comprehensive risk assessment for these noncitizens,” the inspector general added. The inspector general recommended several reforms in the interest of national security. But the Department of Homeland Security refused to implement those measures, the report said, saying if it was forced to detain all the illegals who showed up with no identification from their home countries, it could not fit them in its 42,000 beds. The inspector general countered that there are other options. The refusal to abide by the inspector general’s recommendations highlights how Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has thumbed his nose not only at Congress, but at his own department’s watchdog. Inspectors general are independent officers empowered to monitor agencies for wrongdoing and mismanagement, and have been historically considered by members of both parties as an important element of good governance. Illegal immigrants without identification can be simply denied admission, but if they claim to fear persecution in their home country, they “may be released into the country to await further hearings.” The administration can also let them in if they claim there is a “significant public benefit.” “Prior to releasing these individuals, CBP and ICE immigration officers accept self-reported biographical information, which they use to issue various immigration forms. Once in the United States, noncitizens can travel on domestic flights,” the inspector general said. Non-citizens are allowed to fly on planes by taking a picture and confirming that they match the photo on record using the Biden-Harris administration’s CPB One app. But that merely confirms they are the same person who presented at the border, not that they are who they claimed to be. The inspector general said at least one noncitizen released into the United States was on the FBI’s Terrorist Watchlist. Several examples of apparent national security risks, failures, and damning information were redacted from the report. The report noted that when it came to Afghan refugees, “CBP admitted or paroled dozens of evacuees with derogatory information into the country,” such as someone who was freed from prison in Afghanistan by the Taliban as it seized control of the country. Of 89,000 Afghan refugees in a database, 11,110 listed their birthday as January 1, while some simply used an abbreviation for “unknown” in their first or last name field. The report said the government takes illegal immigrants’ fingerprints before admitting them to the United States, but that their screening systems didn’t connect to key databases, such as the Department of Defense’s Biometrically Enabled Watchlist. While the report says that DHS “may” collect DNA samples from illegal immigrants, the officials previously in charge of that program have testified to Congress that DHS often refuses to take DNA samples that could reliably identify illegal immigrants, despite a law requiring they do so. When it does, it doesn’t wait for results to come back before releasing the aliens. “We recommend that the Director of ICE conduct a comprehensive analysis of the risks associated with releasing noncitizens without identification from ICE custody and develop and implement policies and procedures to mitigate those risks,” the inspector general said, adding that “the Department did not concur with the recommendations we offered.” The inspector general also said the Transportation Security Administration dismissed its recommendations about unidentified people flying on airplanes, while refusing to provide evidence to support its dismissal. “This recommendation is open and unresolved until TSA provides evidence,” the report said. President Joe Biden tapped Vice President Kamala Harris “to lead our efforts with Mexico and the Northern Triangle and the countries that help — are going to need help in stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border.”

At this time, Dove also partnered with Matthew Cherry, a director and former football player, for a “quest to transform the world of sports into a welcoming environment where every girl can thrive and truly belong.” That seems like a pretty normal thing to do. But don’t get too excited about a return to normalcy. Dove’s Super Bowl ad and partnership with Cherry would’ve been great if it weren’t for the fact that just a few years earlier, the brand congratulated Laurel Hubbard, a male weightlifter who competed against women at the Olympics. “History in the making. Congrats to Laurel! Here’s to more trans representation in sports,” Dove tweeted in 2021. If that seems hypocritical, it’s because it is. Dove is trying to claim it supports women’s sports while celebrating when men who claim to be women infiltrate women’s sports. Opponents of school choice can’t be happy. The past three years have seen a flood of school-choice victories – and, ironically, we can thank two very “progressive” groups. Two thirds of all states now have some form of private school-choice policies. Notably, 11 states have universal education choice, a policy no state had just three years ago. Even in states where school choice is still elusive, the dam is breaking. In Texas, opponents of education freedom were roundly defeated in the primaries this past spring. What has transpired in these 36 months? As scholars who have closely studied and chronicled these developments, the only response we can give is that American parents rebelled against what happened four years ago. So as people who fully welcome policies that liberate American families and leave them free to educate their children as they see fit, and not remain shackled to bad public schools set on indoctrinating their young children, we’d like to thank Black Lives Matter. Yes, BLM. If it weren’t for all the damage they have inflicted on society, we would consider sending handwritten thank-you notes to founders Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and the rest. Without the chaos and violence created in 2020 by the BLM organizations — founded by these Marxists with the express goal of achieving systemic-wide societal change — combined with the radical gender ideology infecting local schools, parents maybe have been slower to demand an escape hatch to let them opt out of the indoctrination meted out in public schools. They did, and the progress speaks for itself. Of course, we don’t want to leave out the teachers’ unions. Bless them, they also did their part. The shutdowns they demanded were the first instance of public schools breaking faith with families; failing to reopen their doors long after we knew it was safe for them to do so. In rapid succession, parents saw the second instance: emergency remote learning gave them a window into what their children were being taught, raising red flags in school board meetings across the country. States responded, giving parents the ability to vote with their feet. And vote they did. The number of children exercising school choice – using a voucher, tax credit scholarship, or education savings account – has roughly doubled from the 2019 pre-pandemic level to nearly 1 million students. Today, 19 states have Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) or ESA-style policies enabling families to choose schools and learning options that are right for their children. ESAs are accounts into which the state deposits a portion—usually 90 percent—of the money that would have been spent on a child in their district school. The parents can use the money in the account to pay for private school tuition, online learning, special education services and therapies, tutoring, textbooks, and a host of other education-related services, products, and providers. And unused funds can be rolled over from year to year, and even rolled into a college savings account. This year alone four states established ESA options: Wyoming, Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia. Louisiana went all-in with universal ESAs, opening up eligibility to every family in the state, regardless of income. In Texas, up until this year, state legislators who call themselves Republicans had stood in the way of school choice programs out of concern for what it might mean for the district public school. Well, this year the Lone Star State had elections. Six out of eight incumbent Republican lawmakers who had stood in the way of school choice lost their primaries or the runoffs. This was a big win for Gov. Greg Abbott, who made school choice a hill to die on, and now more than ever looks like a reality in the Lone Star State. If Texas finally adopts school choice, some 40% of all kids in the country would be eligible to choose a school other than their assigned district school. At that point, we can reasonably say that Milton Friedman’s vision of breaking the public schooling monopoly – some 70 years in the making – has come to fruition. Which brings us back to how we got here. Four years ago, this country was caught up in one of its biggest political convulsions in decades, after BLM manipulated the tragic death of George Floyd to carry out their plan. We had weeks of rioting, burning, and looting. As if the physical damage didn’t take enough of a toll, the stewards of our cultural institutions — our schools and universities, our libraries and museums, our theaters and movie studios, everyone involved in industries that create meaning and content — then capitulated and accepted as facts a number of falsehoods they should have had the confidence to dismiss. America is systemically racist; white supremacy is the operating system of our society; the founding of America took place in 1619, when a group of Africans arrived in Jamestown, not 1776, when America’s founders signed the Declaration of Independence. These and other fabrications were accepted as facts. The idea was to stain and destroy the idea of America. Rather than being conceived in liberty, everyone was told to believe that ugly racism and oppression was the post-partum reality. Then there were the sexual delusions. Among these were that a man could become a woman or vice versa, or that children could be born in the “wrong body.” America circa 2020 thus fell into what can only be described as a moment of mass hysteria. These ideas swarmed into our classrooms and children began to be indoctrinated into these hallucinations. Their purveyors intentionally targeted our schools, fully cognizant of the fact that if you capture a generation of children, if you interrupt the transmission of culture and facts and you change the narrative, you have created a new hegemony. This movement had the wind fully at its back in 2020. The world was going its way. But then something happened: parents and grandparents, especially mothers and grandmothers, started to fight back, a counterrevolution that gathered force in early 2021. They organized, went to school board meetings, and voted. They demanded the freedom to opt out of the frenzy. School choice was the way out. They put pressure on politicians in states like Texas. And they voted out recalcitrant politicians standing in their way. If you ask us, that is the reason why education choice has met the success it has. Dutcher’s attempts to call 911 using voice commands failed, prompting him to call his mother, Catherine Dutcher. Authorities later revealed that the car had previously been in the shop for similar issues. His call set a series of events into motion, and Minnesota State Trooper Zach Gruver took action. “Once I actually caught up to him, I saw that he was doing 113 mph,” Gruver said. “It was pretty much pinned at 113.” The trooper deployed a high-risk maneuver, instructing Dutcher to hit his patrol car, which effectively brought the out-of-control SUV to a safe stop. Honda, acknowledging the efforts of all involved, praised the swift law enforcement action and emphasized the importance of inspecting the vehicle by an authorized dealer to prevent recurrence.
