The Who single that Roger Daltrey said is one of the best they recorded

The Who single that Roger Daltrey said is one of the best they recorded

Formed in London, England back in the early 60s, The Who became one of the most influential bands of all time. The group originally formed by Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon sold an estimated amount of more than 100 million records worldwide and were one of the most important bands in the world, especially in the 60s and 70s. Their line-up was tragically changed twice. First with the death of Keith Moon in 1978 at the age of 32 and then with the passing of John Entwistle in 2002 at the age of 57. Since then the group has continued to be active, being led by Pete and Roger. They released 12 studio albums and 58 singles so far. It's hard to say which is their best single released but Roger Daltrey once named one of the best, in his opinion. The Who single that Roger Daltrey said is one of the best they recorded As the vocalist Roger Daltrey said in an interview with UNCUT in 2015, he believes that the single "I Can See For Miles" was one of the best The Who released over the decades. “I think it’s one of the best-produced singles we ever did. We spent literally a whole day putting down layer and layer of harmonies on the ‘miles and miles’ section. I always loved that song and you listen to the drumming on it, it’s extraordinary – like a steam engine." "That time, though, psychedelia, it was a bit too spongy for me. I found it pretentious and I didn’t like it. I couldn’t wait to get back to a good bit of Otis Redding. We did get into it in some ways but the difference between The Who and all these other bands getting into psychedelia was that, though we were all into the anti-war movement, every time we went on stage we were showing them what war was really like!" He continued: [embed class="is-loading"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0iqg2UanEc&pp=ygUTaSBjYW4gc2VlIGZvciBtaWxlcw%3D%3D[/embed] "At Monterey they’d come to hear all this peace and love music. Not see us smash up our gear and blow things up. That’s what we did. Woke them up a bit! That was all part of our success, though. The Who were the odd men out, totally different,” Roger Daltrey said. Released in 1967 as a single, "I Can See For Miles" was also part of the album "The Who Sell Out", released in the same year. Like almost the entire discography of the band, this song was also written by Pete Townshend, who has always been their main songwriter. At the time the song peaked at number 10 on the United Kingdom Singles Chart. In the United States it peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. It's certainly one of the most famous songs recorded by The Who. It has been played live by them a few times. According to Setlist.FM, the track was part of their shows so far 259 times and 140 times at Roger Daltrey's solo shows. Daltrey thinks the track is brilliant and inspired the album "Tommy" a little bit Unlike groups like The Beatles, in the 60s The Who was so far a band more famous for their singles, not the albums. As Daltrey told Rolling Stone in 2013, that was something that bothered Pete Townshend. So the guitarist and main songwriter decided that he wanted to do a strong album, not thinking about singles. The result was the acclaimed "Tommy", released in 1969. "When we went back into the studio, we just had a mediocre success with 'I Can See For Miles'. I thought that was was a brilliant single. Probably one of the best we ever did. But with us being a singles band, it was wearing thin. Pete was getting worn down, sort’ve frazzled." "Having to come up with hit singles all the time, that’s the hard bit of the music industry. But coming up with music? That was much easier. Well, I don’t know about easier. . . It was more artistically attractive to him. So he came up with this idea of what life would be like if you had lived through just feeling vibrations," Roger Daltrey said. The post The Who single that Roger Daltrey said is one of the best they recorded appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Jack Black will induct Ozzy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Ozzy Osbourne already was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2006 as a member of Black Sabbath but next October 19 he will also be inducted as a solo artist. When the Metal group was inducted almost two decades ago, it was Metallica's Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield the ones who inducted them. Now, who will induct Ozzy will be the famous actor and Tenacious D member Jack Black. He revealed that in an interview with Rolling Stone and said: “Jack invited my family to the School of Rock movie premiere in 2002. I’ve always been a big fan of his. Jack is one of the few great actors that is also a genuine rock & roller and not acting the part.” Ozzy didn't reveal if he will be able to sing at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction Osbourne has been facing a lot of health issues during the past years which forced to cancel his farewell tour. He had the chance to perform a few songs since then during special events but he didn't reveal if he will be able to perform at the induction ceremony but he announced a special line-up for the occasion who will sing his songs. They are Billy Idol, Maynard James Keenan and Jelly Roll. He talked about the musicians, saying: “Billy Idol is a rock icon. His music is timeless. Billy Idol should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Maynard has been a true family friend since 1997.” He adds, “He is such a creative force. There are few artists who can keep three successful bands going for multiple decades." “Who doesn’t love Jelly Roll? His voice is soulful, pure, and dirty. I’m so honored that someone would do this for me who I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting,” Ozzy Osbourne said. Other musicians who will also play his songs are Wolfgang Van Halen, Zakk Wylde, Rob Trujillo, Andrew Watt, Steve Stevens, Adam Wakeman and Chad Smith. Will also be inducted names like Cher, Peter Frampton, Mary J. Blige and Foreigner. Ace Frehley talks about Gene Simmons’ unusual songwriting habit

The legendary original Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley was part of the band from its inception in 1973 until 1982 and then from 1996 to 2002. It's no secret that his relationship with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley was not really good after he left the group. His bandmates were really focused on their work ethic and didn't accept Frehley's and Criss' behavior many times. In an interview with Goldmine, Frehley recalled a quite unusual songwriting habit that Gene Simmons had back then. Ace Frehley talks about Gene Simmons' unusual songwriting habit "Paul and Gene have a certain work ethic that I don't have. For example, when Gene was living in Manhattan in his penthouse, he told me he'd go into his closet, he had a little amp and a recorder set up there, and he'd write a song every day. And I'd say, 'Why do you force yourself to write a song every day?' He goes, 'That's just my work ethic.' I go, 'I can't work that way, Gene. I can only write a song when I feel inspired.'" "I'll go three weeks without writing a song. And then the following weekend, something would inspire me, and I'll end up writing two or three songs in a weekend. Out of 365 songs that Gene wrote in one year while he was living there, there was probably only a half a dozen songs that we used," Ace Frehley said. Ace Frehley was part of Kiss from 1973 to 1982 and from 1996 to 2002. In the late 80s he released two studio albums with his band Frehley’s Comet and as a solo act he already released 8 studio albums, the most recent one being “10,000 volts” (2024). Kiss came to an end in 2023 when they celebrated their 50 years on the road. Frehley and Criss were not part of the farewell tour. Pink Floyd sells music rights for 400 million dollars

Like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Frampton, Kiss, and many others, Pink Floyd also sold their music rights and likeness. The deal was made with Sony and according to Financial Times, the record company paid them 400 million dollars. The deal includes only Pink Floyd's recorded rights and not the songwriting rights. Recently Sony acquired the rights to the Queen catalog for more than 1 billion dollars. The guitarist and singer David Gilmour recently told Rolling Stone they were trying to make the deal happen. "To be rid of the decision-making and the arguments that are involved with keeping it going is my dream. If things were different ... and I am not interested in that from a financial standpoint. I'm only interested in it from getting out of the mud bath that it has been for quite a while." The band was reactivated a few years ago to record a single called "Hey, Hey Rise Up", which was a protest against Russia's invasion in Ukraine. Meanwhile, David Gilmour released a new album called "Luck and Strange" and is currently touring. The drummer Nick Mason is also touring with his band, A Saucerful Of Secrets, which focuses on the early Pink Floyd material. Roger Waters doesn't have any scheduled tour dates so far. They are the only surviving members of the band since the original guitarist and singer Syd Barrett passed away back in 2006 at the age of 60 and the keyboardist Richard Wright died at the age of 65 back in 2008. Formed in London, England back in 1965, Pink Floyd is not only the most successful Progressive Rock band of all time but one of the best-selling groups in the history of music. They have sold an estimated amount of more than 250 million records worldwide.
