Click to Skip Ahead Where Was the Term “Jellicle Cat” Used?  “The Song of the Jellicles” Poem by T.S. Eliot Other Mentions Throughout History The Jellicle Cat Rescue Foundation There Is No Jellicle Cat Breed Even the name Jellicle cat can spark that childlike curiosity. What on earth is a Jellicle cat and where can I get one? Unfortunately, you can only get one in your dreams or in your own imagination when reading literature—these cats are a human-crafted concept by the poet T.S. Eliot. In this article, we will explain all you want to know about the Jellicle cat so you can brush up on your English history. Where Was the Term “Jellicle Cat” Used? In 1933, Jellicle cats were mentioned by T.S. Eliot in his poem “Five-Finger Exercises.” It was a short excerpt leaving readers to wonder more about what exactly a Jellicle cat is. It was later revisited when Eliot went further in the poem, “The Song of the Jellicles.” So, T.S. Eliot gave birth to the idea that has lived on through the ages, becoming a classic of mass proportions. Image Credit: ANURAK PONGPATIMET, Shutterstock  “The Song of the Jellicles” Poem by T.S. Eliot Jellicle Cats come out tonight, Jellicle Cats come one come all: The Jellicle Moon is shining bright— Jellicles come to the Jellicle Ball. Jellicle Cats are black and white, Jellicle Cats are rather small; Jellicle Cats are merry and bright, And pleasant to hear when they caterwaul. Jellicle Cats have cheerful faces, Jellicle Cats have bright black eyes; They like to practise their airs and graces And wait for the Jellicle Moon to rise. Jellicle Cats develop slowly, Jellicle Cats are not too big; Jellicle Cats are roly-poly, They know how to dance a gavotte and a jig. Until the Jellicle Moon appears They make their toilette and take their repose: Jellicles wash behind their ears, Jellicles dry between their toes. Jellicle Cats are white and black, Jellicle Cats are of moderate size; Jellicle Cats jump like a jumping-jack, Jellicle Cats have moonlit eyes. They’re quiet enough in the morning hours, They’re quiet enough in the afternoon, Reserving their terpsichorean powers To dance by the light of the Jellicle Moon. Jellicle Cats are black and white, Jellicle Cats (as I said) are small; If it happens to be a stormy night They will practise a caper or two in the hall. If it happens the sun is shining bright You would say they had nothing to do at all: They are resting and saving themselves to be right For the Jellicle Moon and the Jellicle Ball. Other Mentions of Jellicle Cats Throughout History Jellicle cats were originally mentioned in the 1933 poem “Five-Finger Exercises.” In this, they were described as being black and white, scruffy, and friendly. The poem doesn’t leave out canines, either, with the mention of Pollicle Dogs. Pollicle dogs are a play on “poor little dogs” and Jellicle cats are “dear little cats.” Jellicle Cats might have originally come from T.S. Eliot’s imagination. However, they were adopted by the 1981 production of the musical Cats written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. In this production, they veer away from the traditional black and white and instead carry a variety of coat colors and personalities. In 1986, the movie Logan’s Run features the purchase of Jellicle cats, interestingly enough. Moving on to 2017, there was a published picture book by Faber and Faber featuring the “Song of the Jellicles” with the standalone poem therein. Madame Tussauds New York features wax representations of Jellicle cats since 2019, including Grizabella—the theme song performer in Cats. So, you can see how impactful the concept of Jellicle cats has been on pop culture. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Andrew Lloyd Webber (@andrewlloydwebber) The Jellicle Cat Rescue Foundation There is a rescue foundation named after the infamous fictional Jellicle cats. Jellicle Cats Rescue Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization in Long Beach, California. They perform TNR, which stands for trap, neuter, and release to cut down on the reproduction of homeless cats. They spread awareness about responsible pet ownership to cut down on the homelessness epidemic that is rampant in their county and across the world. You can also adopt cats through this program. If you can’t, you can always gather resources and other information from the foundation. There Is No Jellicle Cat Breed Unfortunately, no cat breed has ever been named after the infamous Jellicle cat. It’s possible that one day in the future, a breed could develop adapting this name in memory of T.S. Eliot’s works. However, you can’t own a Jellicle cat for yourself in the present day. Conclusion Now you know more about these fictional historical cats. It really is a wonder how our domestic pets have inspired such creativity in human consciousness. Jellicle cats will live on through the writings, productions, teachings, and memories of folks familiar with the old works. One thing is for sure—every cat lover wishes they could have their very own fictional Jellicle cat. Jon Karl, Only ABC Journo to Admit Walz Had Pretty Bad Debate Night

As a recent NewsBusters study shown, ABC News was 100 percent in the tank for the Harris-Walz campaign. So, it was no surprise that during the network’s analysis of the vice presidential debate hosted by CBS on Tuesday, that their journalists would largely stay away from admitting that Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) had a pretty bad performance between his lies about being in Tiananmen Square, his gaffe about being friends with school shooters, and many more. But without getting into those details, chief Washington correspondent Jon Karl admitted it didn’t go well for the number two on their Democratic ticket. World News Tonight anchor David Muir initially wanted Karl to focus only on “the January 6 moment” near the end of the debate, but Karl wanted to talk about Walz’s short coming since they really weren’t mentioned up until that point in their coverage: MUIR: Jon, you heard what the Harris campaign is saying tonight, that the January 6 moment they believe was one of the strongest moments for Governor Walz. That came well into this debate. JON KARL: 90 minutes in by my count. MUIR: But it was still quite a moment. KARL: It was. You know, but first, David, I've got to say I think that Walz did seem unsteady. And frankly what I saw in Walz is somebody who has not faced questions on a national stage since he became the Democratic nominee.     Karl openly lamented that the Democratic campaign had been hiding Walz, keeping him away from the media and that it obviously hurt him in the debate: He was simply out of practice. I mean, I don't know why they've done it but they've kept him out of the limelight. They've kept him away from reporters. They haven't had him do any interviews. And he was clearly unsteady through much of that debate. And in contrast J.D. Vance was very smooth. He took the arguments not to Walz. He was very respectful of Walz. Took it to Kamala Harris. Desperate to get away from the topic, Muir latched on to Karl mentioning the “tone of civility in this debate”: MUIR: I was struck on that point, though, Jon. Repeatedly both of them said to each other, ‘well, I appreciate what you just said there,’ and then went to sort of claim their separate stances on whatever the issue was in the moment. But they said it a number of times in different ways. But both acknowledging the other standing on that stage. KARL: Yeah. And you just don't hear that anymore. And J.D. Vance did a very good job on taking the policy questions including ones that were going to be very difficult for him and pivoted back to make the points he wanted to make. Karl eventually did get to the January 6 stuff Muir wanted him to talk about with the latter seemingly admitting they were doing the Harris campaign’s bidding. “Which is why the Harris campaign is bringing that to your attention and other reporters as well,” he strangely said. The only time Walz’s floundering with his Tiananmen Square lie was mentioned was from a non-journalist in the form of former Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus.   ABC's @Reince Priebus on the #VPDebate: "I thought he did really well...[M]ost importantly, he went head on against this narrative that he's this snarky unlikable guy and he talked about the American Dream and his life in the beginning and the end. Walz lied about Tiananmen… pic.twitter.com/3VpdJ8FnHI — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) October 2, 2024   The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: ABC’s Post Debate Analysis October 1, 2024 10:49:32 p.m. Eastern (…) DAVID MUIR: Jon, you heard what the Harris campaign is saying tonight, that the January 6 moment they believe was one of the strongest moments for Governor Walz. He was simply out of practice. Overall, a tone of civility in this debate. In an election that has been anything but civil. MUIR: I was struck on that point, though, Jon. But at the end of the debate, 90 minutes in, a reminder that this is not a normal election. This is not simply an election that is about policy debates. This is an election that features a candidate who is trying to return to office after having refused to accept defeat in the last election and trying to overturn a democratic presidential election, something we never have seen in this country through our 258 years or however many years. It was striking to me that we didn't hear the words mentioned Mike Pence. Mike pence who of course was Donald Trump's vice president. Mike pence who is not supporting Donald Trump in large part because Donald Trump on January 6th helped to unleash a mob that attacked the Capitol that went literally to chants of "Hang Mike pence" calling for the execution of Mike Pence, because he refused to go along with Donald Trump's attempts to illegally overturn that election. So, when it finally came up, you heard from J.D. Vance -- again, a reminder, not a policy debate here. J.D. Vance has said that he would not do what Mike Pence did, that he would not have stood up to Donald Trump, that he would have done what Donald Trump wanted him to do. And he reiterated that. And that was I think a very important moment but it came at the very end of this debate. MUIR: Which is why the Harris campaign is bringing that to your attention and other reporters as well. (…)

CNN Panel LOSES IT When ‘Lonely Scott’ Mentions Abortion Survivors Left to Die in MN Under Walz’s Law

CNN’ post-debate panel blew up at Bush White House alum Scott Jennings, when he mentioned that under Tim Walz, born-alive survivors of botched abortions were left to die. Their reaction to Jennings’ data was equal parts rage and mockery. But they were unable to refute him.  Watch as the panel loses their minds (click “expand” to view transcript): FIREWORKS: Pro-choice CNN panelists Alyssa Farah Griffin, David Axelrod, and Ashley Allison EXPLODE when @ScottJenningsKY fact-checks them on Minnesota's abortion law: "[T]his thing in Minnesota. There were eight deaths among infants who survived abortion attempts during Tim… pic.twitter.com/a6sKdtkoOB — Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) October 2, 2024 DAVID AXELROD: Give him credit for solicitude…the policies. maybe not. SCOTT JENNINGS: Look,I just had- this thing in Minnesota. There were eight deaths among infants who survived abortion attempts during Tim Walz’s tenure as governor. It happened, they don't want to talk about the fact that it happened, but there were children… ALYSSA FARA-GRIFFIN: What’s the sources? I’m seeing that… AXELROD: Let me ask you a question since you've deeply researched this, what were the condition of these- of these- of these of these babies when they were born? JENNINGS: Why can't we…why can’t we all just… AXELROD: What was the participation of the family? You think…you think…you think…you think… JENNINGS: They tried to abort the babies and they survived the abortion and they died. AXELROD: And you think that families casually tossed them aside? JENNINGS: No, I think Walz casually tossed the truth about it aside. AXELROD: Tell me what their condition was, Scott. Could they have survived? Was it a case of families not wanting children to suffer who were- when they were told that they are doomed? Is that- you know, that seems important to me. ASHLEY ALLISON: Yes. And that is the reality of the case. But you know what? Here’s what I will say: keep talking about that because when you all talk about abortion like this, it is when women and that gender gap continues to divide, not in your favor. Because women, it is disrespectful to pretend like women are making choices about abortion that is the intent to just let a baby die at nine months.  JENNINGS: Well. ALLISON: Let me finish it here. And it is dishonest for JD Vance to go up there and try and push that narrative. And that is what I'm saying when I said he presented well, but his policies and what he was saying was not truthful. It just wasn't. And that is why the overwhelming American people since Roe has been overturned, you guys are not winning. You are not winning and if you run on this issue, you will not win in November. JENNINGS: They're not running on this issue.  ALLISON: They’re lying on this issue. JENNINGS: They’re running- they're running on. It's up to the states and they're running on Donald Trump's moderate position of some reasonable restrictions. Rape, incest, and life of the mother: IVF support, that’s very moderate. ELLIOTT: They’re lying. They’re lying. AXELROD: Here- Here, can I say something about this? You are- one of your frequent go-to points is Kamala Harris said this in 2019, that's her position. Donald Trump said women should be punished if they had an abortion. Why shouldn’t we hold him to that? You talk about his moderate position. His moderate position has been adopted over the course of this campaign for purposes of this campaign, after he put the justices on the Supreme Court who overturned Roe, who've created a crisis for women who live in 20 states in this country. JENNINGS: His position is moderate, and it is in line with what I think most Americans want… AXELROD: Do you believe him when he said- when he said that women should be- JENNINGS: I think Harris and Walz have proven they cannot discuss even a single restriction that they want. AXELROD: Do you believe when he said women should be punished, did you believe that?  JENNINGS: I don't believe, and no Republican wants women to be punished.  AXELROD: Do you believe…but he said it. Do you believe him when he said it?  GRIFFIN: And at the time it was roundly criticized by other Republicans.  AXELROD: Did you believe him when he said it?  JENNINGS: I can tell you what Republicans believe, which is… AXELROD:  I'm just asking you what Trump believes. JENNINGS: I'm telling you what he's running on right now. AXELROD:  I know what he's running on right now. I know what he's running on right now.  ELLIOTT: (CROSSTALK) he’s running on it to win. He’s not running on it because it’s what he actually believes. JENNINGS: If I didn't- if I couldn't articulate a single restriction, I would attack Trump. ELLIOTT: This is what Kamala Harris and Tim Walz believes- is that it's none of your business what women do with their body and so stay out of our doctors offices and stay out of our bedroom. JENNINGS: Well,  I guess I'll have to speak up for the babies, they’re not here to speak for themselves. Lord, have mercy. ANDERSON COOPER: Let's check back in with Jake in DC. Jake. JAKE TAPPER: Anderson. Lord, have mercy. The born-alive survivors left to die are a matter of record, as was reported by John Solomon, should Axelrod and Griffin be inclined to do such things as basic research: In summer 2022 as Tim Walz was steaming toward reelection as Minnesota governor, his state health agency published a required abortion-statistics report with little fanfare. In it, though, was a secret that is certain to catapult to national prominence now that Walz has been selected to be Democrat Kamala Harris’s running mate. In Walz’s state and on his watch, five infants were "born alive" in 2021 during failed abortions, and none was provided life-saving care though two got “comfort care,” the Minnesota Department of Health reported on July 1, 2022. Three other infants were "born alive" during abortions in 2019, Walz’s first year as governor, and they too perished without life-saving care, according to a July 1, 2020 report from the same state agency. Minnesota was the rare state to require such born-alive abortions to be publicly reported, creating a powerful statistic for pro-life and anti-abortion forces to draw upon. The report goes on to list which babies received care. Only one such baby was born with the fatal abnormalities mentioned by Axelrod.  The left may not like to have Trump or Vance mention it in debates, but the indisputable fact is that this thing happened. So much so, that Walz changed the reporting requirements so now we don’t know whether any abortion survivors received any care, if at all. The protestations of the panel and the mockeries of Jake Tapper notwithstanding, Scott Jennings very powerfully defended Life. As he put it: someone has to speak up for the babies. Lord, have mercy.

Click to Skip Ahead Most Popular Cat Names That Start With the Letter E Male Names Female Names Other Great Names That Start With E There are many people who like to use naming conventions when naming their pets. Some people like to use a specific letter (like B names for Boston Terriers), and others like to stick to a certain theme, like sports stars. Naming conventions are a fun way to bond with your pets and can be a great conversation starter. If you are someone looking for a name that starts with the letter E, you are looking for an uncommon sort of name. Names that start with E are less common than people realize, and the names are more unique than other letters. That makes it a perfect letter to mine for ideas for the perfect name for your cat. Here are 80 of the most popular cat names that start with the letter E. Most Popular Cat Names That Start With the Letter E These are the most popular names for cats that start with the letter E. These names were derived from copious amounts of research and categorizing to identify trends in the pet naming world. Each one of these names has made the list of the most popular cat names in the past two years. Some of the most popular naming trends are based on television shows, music, and traditional names. Image Credit: Julija Sulkovska, Shutterstock Male Names Here are five of the most popular male cat names. Some were taken from rover.com’s Top Cat Names of 2023 based on names submitted by readers. Other names were taken from cats.com’s list of most popular cat names starting with E, in which the names are voted on by readers. So, keep in mind that for the cats.com names, the number of “loves” for any name may change, and the numbers given reflect the number of “loves” at the time of writing. You are welcome to go to cats.com and vote for your favorite, too! 1. Eric Names inspired by The Little Mermaid were popular in 2023, and the name Eric was up 47%, according to Rover. Eric (Erik) also proved to be popular on cats.com’s list, with 124 “loves” at the time of this writing. 2. Eddie According to Rover’s list, names inspired by 90s grunge were increasingly popular. The name Eddie increased by 6%, likely as a nod to Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. Eamon Now going solely to cats.com’s list, the name Eamon was the most popular with readers by a landslide, with 304 “loves”. Eamon is an Irish name meaning “wealthy protector”, a perfect name for a kitty that always has your back. Image Credit: Elena Loginova, Shutterstock  4. Earl Earl was actually the 4th most popular name on cats.com, but we’re mentioning it since Edvard and Edward are so close. The name Earl had 182 “loves”. However, there are plenty of interesting names that start with E that complement the most popular names list. Male Names Eadric Eagan Earnest Earnhardt Easton Eavan Ebbie Eben Eberhard Ebi Ebrill Ector Ed Edgar Eduardo Edward Edwin Egbert Egypt Einstein Elf Elton Emerson Emery Emmett Emory Enzo Epic Ernie Eugene Evan Everest Ewok Ezra Image Credit: BearFotos, Shutterstock Female Names Earhart Eartha Eathelin Ebony Echo Eclipse Eden Edie Edith Effie Elaine Elara Electra Elena Ella Eliza Ellie Eloise Elsa Elsie Ember Emerald Emily Emma Emmy Eowyn Esme Esmeralda Estelle Esther Ethel Eunice Eva Eve Evelyn Evie Conclusion Names that start with the letter E aren’t easy to find. However, these 80 names provide ample material and inspiration to help you name your cat. The letter E is a great base to find a name from, and you are sure to get a classic name or something completely new for your cat.
