Iran Fires Nearly 200 Ballistic Missiles at Israel

Sirens sounded all over Israel Tuesday night as ballistic missiles flared overhead. Millions of Israelis were directed to hide in bomb shelters while at least 180 Iranian projectiles entered Israeli airspace. Iranian missiles are striking in Israel pic.twitter.com/bg23N8Xj0q— Harrison Krank (@HarrisonKrank) October 1, 2024 Israel’s Iron Dome intercepted most of the missiles, but some managed to get through and hit locations in central and southern Israel, according to the Israel Defense Forces. Two U.S. Navy destroyers aided Israel in the attack and fired about 12 interceptors against the missiles, according to the Pentagon. Iran carried out a similar missile attack against Israel in April. Most of the missiles were shot down, but an air base in southern Israel did sustain minor damage. After the spring attack, President Joe Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “take the win.”  Biden said Tuesday that he and Vice President Kamala Harris “convened our national security team to discuss Iranian plans to launch an imminent missile attack against Israel. We discussed how the United States is prepared to help Israel defend against these attacks, and protect American personnel in the region.” This morning, @VP and I convened our national security team to discuss Iranian plans to launch an imminent missile attack against Israel. We discussed how the United States is prepared to help Israel defend against these attacks, and protect American personnel in the region.— President Biden (@POTUS) October 1, 2024 Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Tuesday that the U.S. is “committed to Israel’s defense,” but did not give specifics.  Iran’s attack came in response to Israel killing multiple terrorist leaders in recent days and weeks, including Hamas and Hezbollah leaders. Iran called its missile attack on Israel a “legal, rational, and legitimate response to the terrorist acts of the Zionist regime—which involved targeting Iranian nationals and interests and infringing upon the national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” Iran’s legal, rational, and legitimate response to the terrorist acts of the Zionist regime—which involved targeting Iranian nationals and interests and infringing upon the national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran—has been duly carried out. Should the Zionist regime…— I.R.IRAN Mission to UN, NY (@Iran_UN) October 1, 2024 Iran warned Israel and its allies: “Should the Zionist regime dare to respond or commit further acts of malevolence, a subsequent and crushing response will ensue. Regional states and the Zionists’ supporters are advised to part ways with the regime.” There were no immediate reports of deaths in Israel following the attack, but at least six people were killed in a shooting in Tel Aviv during the rocket attack. Police neutralized the attackers and say it was an act of terrorism.  The Pentagon is discussing next steps with Israel. EXCLUSIVE: School District Sued for Withholding Public Records About Gender Transition Plans for Children

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—The nonprofit that has been exposing radical gender ideology in California filed a lawsuit Monday against the public school district in Lynwood, California, for failing to comply with state law by providing requested documents about its “gender transition” plans for schoolchildren. Lynwood Unified School District in Los Angeles County hasn’t responded to the Center for American Liberty’s repeated records requests, the organization says. According to the organization, this silence violates the California Public Records Act, which requires government entities to disclose records to the public upon request. “This is a clear violation of state law,” Mark Trammell, executive director of the Center for American Liberty, said in a statement shared with The Daily Signal. The center is a nonprofit dedicated to litigating free speech and civil liberties issues. “LUSD’s refusal to respond to a public records request is not only illegal, it is part of a broader trend of schools across California keeping parents in the dark about what’s really happening in the classroom. Parents have a right to know, and Lynwood is not above the law.”  Petition-for-Writ-of-MandateDownload The Center for American Liberty issued a public records request on July 23. It asked for information on district policies on maintaining and disclosing student records; information on so-called gender support plans, which school districts use to help children socially “transition” to another gender; and information on communications with outside organizations like Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union.  Though state law requires the district to respond within 10 days, Lynwood Unified has supplied no documentation.  The Center for American Liberty has exposed several California school districts for helping kids “transition” without their parents’ knowledge.  For instance, the nonprofit exposed that Newport-Mesa Unified School District forced students to choose between rooming with a transgender-identifying student or missing out on an overnight school field trip, as The Daily Signal first reported. The Center for American Liberty also filed a lawsuit against Burbank Unified School District for failing to fully comply with a public records request. The records the district did supply showed it uses Gender Spectrum’s model for a gender support plan, a document that establishes steps to hide a child’s new “gender identity” from his or her parents. The document asks whether “guardians” are aware of the child’s gender status, ranks the level of their support, then asks: “If [the] support level is low, what considerations must be accounted for in implementing this plan?” Capistrano Unified School District in California’s southern Orange County allows a student to change his or her name and gender in school records without parental permission, according to records obtained by the Center for American Liberty and shared with The Daily Signal. The center believes Lynwood Unified may be hiding student gender transition plans and partnerships with organizations pushing gender ideology like with the other districts it has exposed.  Lynwood Unified allows students to use facilities and participate in activities and sports in accordance with their chosen “gender identity,” meaning biological males can use girls’ bathrooms and compete against girls in sports.  Lynwood Unified School District did not respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment by time of publication. The widespread disregard for parental rights in California, the center argues, follows the example of Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, who on July 15, signed legislation known as Assembly Bill 1955 that allows public schools to hide a student’s gender identity from his or her parents. AB 1955 overrules any local school board policies that require transparency with parents about their child’s sexual orientation or gender identity. “Gov. Newsom is pushing parents’ rights out of the picture,” Center for American Liberty founder Harmeet Dhillon said. Dockworkers Launch Massive Strike With Just 5 Weeks Until Election Day

DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—Thousands of unionized dockworkers went on strike just after midnight Tuesday at 14 major ports along the East Coast and the Gulf Coast, setting the stage for possible supply chain disruptions with about a month to go until Election Day. The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) announced in an early-morning Tuesday Facebook post that the union and its members would “shut down” the ports after failing to reach a new contract with the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX), according to Axios. The strike could cause major supply chain disruptions, shortages and billions of dollars of costs for the U.S. economy if it drags on for an extended period of time, and it comes just five weeks ahead of pivotal federal elections. “USMX brought on this strike when they decided to hold firm to foreign owned Ocean Carriers earning billion-dollar profits at United States ports, but not compensate the American ILA longshore workers who perform the labor that brings them their wealth,” ILA President Harold Daggett said of the strike, per Axios. “We are prepared to fight as long as necessary, to stay out on strike for whatever period of time it takes, to get the wages and protections against automation our ILA members deserve.” Right outside the entrance of the Port of Baltimore at the Dundalk terminal are dozens of people picketing in the rain in solidarity with the ILA port worker strike. Watch @wjz this morning for live updates pic.twitter.com/f6HJeUfxKm— Alexus Davila (@AlexusVDavila) October 1, 2024 USMX — an entity representing the interests of the container carriers, port associations and terminal operators that employ the longshoremen — says it offered to give the union a 50% wage increase, triple employer contributions to retirement plans, improve options for health care coverage and maintain current protections for workers against automation. However, this offer did not satisfy the union before it launched the strike largely due to concerns about automation. If the strike lasts more than a few days, it risks knocking supply chains off balance and possibly causing shortages of goods like automobile parts and bananas, according to Axios. The new strike is the first major stoppage to hit major East Coast ports since 1977, though this one could be more economically disruptive given that global trade has grown substantially in the time since and elevated the importance of seaports. Estimates vary as to how badly the strike may hurt the American economy, as JPMorgan projects that the strike could cost the U.S. as much as $4.5 billion per day while The Conference Board expects that the strike could end up costing about $3.7 billion if it goes on for a week, according to Axios. The strike figures include about 45,000 workers, but other related warehouse and transportation jobs could also be affected; Oxford Economics has projected that as many as 105,000 workers may find themselves temporarily out of work as a result of the stoppage. President Joe Biden — who has touted himself as a staunchly pro-labor president — has the power to step in to forestall or end the strike under the Taft-Hartley Act of 1947, though he said Sunday that he does not plan to block the strike, according to Axios. However, some analysts are expecting the White House to intervene in the strike if it goes on for more than a week or so. Blocking the strike could upset the key organized labor constituency with elections just around the corner, but letting the strike go on for too long could put upward pressure on prices for consumers, who are already weary of Biden-era inflation, according to Axios. Many companies knew that the strike could be coming, and rerouted shipments to West Coast ports unaffected by the strike in advance, according to Axios. However, some shipments — especially for perishable goods like fruits and vegetables — cannot be so easily redirected. The ILA and USMX did not respond immediately to requests for comment. Censorship and Transparency Issues in “Anti-Terror” Tech Alliance

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. Big Tech’s Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) alliance, often accused of censorship of legal content, continues to face allegations about an ongoing lack of transparency regarding its operations. Founded two years ago by Meta, Microsoft, then Twitter, and YouTube (Google), it now has 25 members, and the stated goal is to flag and remove violent content from the internet. The latest development regarding to controversial group – other than the ongoing transparency issues – is X deciding to leave the GIFCT board. Two major problems have emerged around GIFCT’s activities and influence on the web: transparency, including around funding, and having a system in place that makes sure legal, non-violent content – such as that actually opposing terrorism, satire, media reports, etc – doesn’t get caught in the GIFTC net as well, resulting in censorship. But, not one of the 25 members publicly shares how much content is removed (due to hash matches). Yet some idea of the size of the operation can be gleaned from YouTube’s contribution to the GIFCT database last year alone: 45,000 hashes. There is also no information available about the number of appeals users lodge against content removal resulting from this process. It’s also unknown how many hashes are added by the companies themselves, and how many come from the government or researchers. And apparently, GIFCT itself isn’t sure how many companies automate hash-sharing or flagging and removing content based on matches, and how many employ humans to do it. The obscurity in which GIFCT labors is quite extraordinary, even by Big Tech standards: it is not known how many companies use the said database, and there is no independent auditing or internal review of the alliances’s work. In 2021, the BSR consultancy was hired to produce “a human rights impact assessment.” 47 changes were recommended, but the GIFCT board has not yet implemented any. And while at it – not even the founding four have always accepted suggestions coming from an independent advisory committee within GIFCT. Then there’s the grants, which some suspect can be seen as subsidies for Big Tech. In which case – another instance of Big Tech-government collusion? If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. ICYMI: Doocy Makes KJP Crumble After Grilling Her on Border Stats, NC Flooding

Monday’s White House press briefing was otherwise uneventful with plenty of process questions about the fallout from Hurricane Helene and concerns about Middle East tensions (which would grow Tuesday with Iran’s missile attacks), but Doocy Time brought the heat with challenging questions on dangerous illegal immigrants and how President Biden and Vice President Harris spent their weekend as untold numbers perished in North Carolina and the surroundings areas. “13,000 people who have been convicted of murder crossed the border illegally and are living among us. So how much danger are you U.S. communities in right now because of this,” Doocy began, citing data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).     Jean-Pierre went down the route she did in June following a number of videos showing President Biden in states of confusion over in Europe, insisting they were all lies. Uh — so, just a couple of things and I think it’s important to — to correct the record here. Uh — first of all, the false — there — the false representation of the data — uh — I shared, so that was what we are seeing — false representation. I got to call that out. We got to call that out and it’s been fact checked by some of your colleagues here by multiple — multiple — uh — multiple — um — outlets that has been debunked on what has been falsely misrepresented — or mis — misrepresented here, so we have to call that out. Doocy had a simple follow-up to explain “what the misrepresentation is”, but Jean-Pierre refused to do so because the 13,000 number “is been falsely represented here” and “[i]f you look at the total returns and removal of the past year, that has been higher than every year under the previous administration since — since — uh — 2010[.]” Moving on from whatever that meant, Doocy asked about Helene, noting North Carolinians “were drowning in their houses” while “Biden was at his beach house and Vice President Harris was hosting political fundraisers on the west coast.” Jean-Pierre’s long, winding gobbledegook could be boiled down to they made phone calls and the people who are actual experts in disaster response were on the job (click “expand”): The President did exactly what a President in this moment needs to do, which is directing his team to take action. One of the reasons that the FEMA administrator was here in this room on Thursday is the President wanted to make sure that we were sending a message out to folks who are going to be impacted by the hurricane and also wanted her to share how we were prepositioning on the ground. Remember, these are folks who do this type of stuff. We think about FEMA, you think about the Red Cross. You think about the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This is what they do. This is what they do. And so, the President was on the phone. He said this when he was asked a question by one of your colleagues for more than two hours yesterday with governors and local elected officials making sure that they have what they needed. You heard me talk about Governor Kemp and what he said to the President himself. He said this and shared this in a press conference that the President has provided and said, what else do you need and he actually said to the President, we have what we need. So — and that’s, as you know, a Republican governor, and look, and I talked about how the Vice President also did her calls. She’s going to be going to the FEMA — FEMA agency and — in the center — the center to — to get her briefing later this afternoon. The President is continuing — continuing to have these conversations with folks on the ground — elected officials on the ground to make sure that they have what they need and directing his team to keep pushing. Doocy moved on, but not before a final topic on the dock workers strike: “[H]ow worried your folks at the White House that a port strike that could make things like fruits and vegetables more expensive, could make it a lot harder for Vice President Harris to win the election?” Of course, Jean-Pierre punted by citing the election and stating in part what the administration does believe is ensuring “workers are — are paid and wages and the economy is working — uh — and that we’re lowering costs for the American people[.]” ABC’s Selina Wang followed and lobbed this ridiculous question smearing former President Trump for going to a part of Georgia hit hard by the hurricane: “Former President Donald Trump is in Georgia in a region that’s been hard hit. Now given all the security that’s needed to accommodate him, is his visit putting a strain on resources there or impacting relief efforts?” – ABC’s @selinawangtv at WH briefing pic.twitter.com/8YbpRUrqzo — Brent Baker ?? ?? (@BrentHBaker) September 30, 2024 To see the relevant transcript from the September 30 briefing, click “expand.” White House press briefing [via ABC News Live subfeed] September 30, 2024 3:16 p.m. Eastern PETER DOOCY: 13,000 people who have been convicted of murder crossed the border illegally and are living among us. So how much danger are you U.S. communities in right now — KARINE JEAN-PIERRE: So — DOOCY: — because of this? JEAN-PIERRE: — I’m assuming you’re talking about the ICE data? DOOCY: Yes. JEAN-PIERRE: Uh — so, just a couple of things and I think it’s important to — to correct the record here. Um — and so, look, this is —  DOOCY: Can you clarify what the misrepresentation is? JEAN-PIERRE: — the numbers that is being put out about how many people are out — is been falsely represented here. If you look at the total returns and removal of the past year, that has been higher than every year under the previous administration since — since — uh — 2010, if you look at it and — if we’re going to report something, a — data that’s out there, we got to do it in a way that is not — not confusing the American people and certainly not lying. And so, there has been — this has been fact checked — been fact checked — uh — and so this is the way that is being false falsely represented here is just not okay and — though — got to be really clear about that.  DOOCY: On Helene, people in west — western North Carolina were drowning in their houses this weekend. Others were losing everything. President Biden was at his beach house and Vice President Harris was hosting political fundraisers on the west coast. Is there a reason that they could not be here? JEAN-PIERRE: The President did exactly what a President in this moment needs to do, which is directing his team to take action. DOOCY: And one more, how worried your folks at the White House that a port strike that could make things like fruits and vegetables more expensive, could make it a lot harder for Vice President Harris to win the election? JEAN-PIERRE: I’m not going to talk about an election from here. That’s not what we’re going to do. That is ---- when it comes to making sure that workers are — are paid and wages and the economy is working — uh — and that we’re lowering costs for the American people, that is just the right thing to do, and that’s what this President focuses on. Every day, day in and day out, how do we have an economy that works for all? When it comes to this particular question that you’re asking me, we’ve said this many times and nothing has changed, we support collective bartering [sic]. It is the best way for American workers and employers to come to a fair agreement. We encourage all parties to come to the bargaining table and negotiate in good faith. A — senior officials from the White House, Labor Department, and Transportation Department are in touch with the parties to urge them to return to the table and negotiate in good faith towards the — an  agreement that benefits all sides and do it fairly and quickly, and this is something that we have said and we’re going to continue to push forward on. DOOCY: Is the Vice President involved in these negotiations? JEAN-PIERRE: What I can say is — I just named the secretaries that are involved, Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Secretary Julie Sue. and the director of National Economic Council Lael Brainard. What I can say is the president and the vice president are being regularly updated about the situation, and — um — I know there’s a question about the Taft Hartley. We — we never — uh — we have never invoked the Taft Hartley to break a strike and are not considering doing so now, but this is a President that has been called a pro-union president by labor — by the labor unions because of how much he believes that the union built the middle class and so, that’s what you’re going to continue to see from this President. He’ll say regularly updated. DOOCY: Thanks. JEAN-PIERRE: Go ahead, Selina. SELINA WANG: Former President Donald Trump is in Georgia in a region that’s been hard hit. Now, given all the security that’s needed to accommodate him, is his visit putting a strain on resources there or impacting relief efforts? JEAN-PIERRE: Here’s what I can say, and you’ve heard this from this President earlier today in his remarks where he said he will visit impacted communities this week and is taking caution — he is taking caution to avoid using critical resources that is needed right now on the road that — on the ground that people need and so, that should be everyone’s top consideration right now. That’s what we should be doing. That’s what we should be focusing, and I’ll leave it there. WANG: So, were there any requests for Trump to delay his visit? JEAN-PIERRE: I’m not getting into it anymore than what I just stated. The President has been really clear about how he sees his presence on the ground. As you know, when the President traveled, it’s a big footprint in this particular moment, he wants to make sure that he’s not taking away resource — resources. He wants to make sure that It is not taking away from the emergency — uh — resources that are on the ground and as I just stated, he believes everybody should adhere — adhere to that.
