UNLV quarterback walks off team over missing $100K NIL payment — school claims QB made illegal demands and 'implied threats'

UNLV star quarterback Matthew Sluka has left the team over an allegedly missing $100,000 name, image, and likeness payment.Sluka made the announcement, without giving specifics, in a social media post stating that he would utilize his redshirt option for the remainder of the season."I have decided to utilize my redshirt year and will not be playing in any additional games this season," Sluka wrote.A redshirt allows a football player to extend his NCAA eligibility for one year, so long as he plays in three games or less. The UNLV Rebels are off to a 3-0 start with Sluka and ranked No. 23 in the AFCA Coaches Poll, the first time the program has ever been ranked in a major poll. "I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled," Sluka's statement continued. "Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program." — (@) Sluka's sideSluka's agent, Marcus Cromartie, and his father, Bob Sluka, both told ESPN that UNLV didn't follow through on a verbal offer of $100,000 that allegedly came from offensive coordinator Brennan Marion. Head coach Barry Odom allegedly told them in a phone call that the offer wasn't valid because it didn't come from himself.Sluka's father and agent allege that when Sluka arrived at UNLV in the summer, he was told the money would be distributed in a payment plan. This plan was then apparently delayed, and Sluka was told payment would come after he enrolled in school and started classes. The agent said the school and the collective that manages its NIL payments did formally offer $3,000 per month for four months, a whopping $88,000 less than what they were offered. However, Sluka only allegedly received $3,000 for moving expenses.Programs in the NCAA use collectives to handle NIL deals; the schools do not directly deal with player deals of that nature. — (@) UNLV's collective, Blueprint Sports, said it paid Sluka a one-time fee of $3,000 for a summer event but was unaware of any $100,000 promises. It also stated that Sluka first contacted the collective in August but had not contacted anyone about any missing payments."They keep deferring — 'We don't know. You have to wait,'" Bob Sluka said. "Then it was like, 'We're going to give him game checks.' So we're like, 'OK, great.' We did not ask for a single dollar [more]. At one point, we are out of pocket for him to be there, because his expenses to live there weren't even being covered."The father also claimed that offensive coordinator Marion, along with sports agents, agreed to a verbal deal with the family the previous winter during a recruiting visit."We left there understanding that we were going to get a certain dollar amount for Matt to come there on the NIL deal, not a blowout number, but a reasonable, fair number," Bob Sluka added. He noted that his son received more than 25 NIL offers from other schools.'UNLV does not engage in such activity, nor does it respond to implied threats.'UNLV's sideUNLV largely avoided directly addressing the claims and said Sluka's representative made financial demands in order to keep playing. The school asserted that the demands were illegal and "implied threats."Sluka's "representative made financial demands upon the University and its NIL collective in order to continue playing," UNLV claimed."UNLV Athletics interpreted these demands as a violation of the NCAA pay-for-play rules, as well as Nevada state law. ... UNLV does not engage in such activity, nor does it respond to implied threats. UNLV has honored all previously agreed-upon scholarships for Matthew Sluka.""UNLV has conducted its due diligence and will continue to operate its programs within the framework of NCAA rules and regulations, as well as Nevada state laws," the statement concluded. The NCAA's senior vice president of external affairs, Tim Buckley, offered a different take on the ordeal, albeit not directly addressing the particular situation."Unfortunately there is little oversight or accountability in the NIL space and far too often promises made to student-athletes are broken," Buckley said.He added that "positive changes" are underway as the NCAA is looking to add benefits but blamed "Congress" and "the courts" for limiting the authority the NCAA has in regulating third parties in regards to NIL transactions.Sluka said he will work with a quarterback coach during his time off and wait for the January transfer window to find another school.Like Blaze News? 'Am I out of my f***ing mind?' UFC CEO Dana White reveals he will finally enter the world of boxing

UFC's Dana White said he is finally ready to dip his toes into boxing after nearly a decade-long conversation surrounding whether it is worth it for him."I have a plan," White told reporters. Speaking after an episode of "Dana White's Contender Series," the UFC president said every time he gets on the phone to discuss boxing with his business partners, he thinks, "Am I out of my f***ing mind?!""I think obviously now is the time, or I would've done it (in 2017). I was kicking around. I was even talking about Anthony Joshua at one time and stuff like that. I'm glad I pumped the brakes and we waited. Everything is about timing. Is now the time? We're going to find out," White added, per BJPenn.com.White first indicated he was interested in promoting boxing in 2017, when UFC star and then-champion Conor McGregor was gearing up to fight boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. At the time, White would occasionally be seen wearing a Zuffa Boxing T-shirt, hinting that UFC ownership would be running the proposed promotion."No, no, no, I'm not leaving the UFC. I'm getting into boxing with [WME/IMG head] Ari [Emanuel], and the UFC will be doing boxing too," White said, according to ESPN. "It's still early. We're still working on it. I've got to get my [stuff] together, but I'm getting into boxing, man. It's coming."Interestingly enough, Emanuel's WME would eventually purchase the UFC and WWE under TKO Holdings Group in 2023.'I'm coming in guns blazing.'In August 2019, White had allegedly made key hires in regards to Zuffa Boxing and was hoping to have the promotion running by that October. White said that "politics" in the sport had always been in the way of boxing's progression and that his proposed promotion could still fail.Fast forward five years and White has again said he has a plan in place for the flailing sport, which has survived off gimmicks and super-fights in recent years."I'm going to implement that plan, and we'll see how that works," White said in a press conference clip, posted by MMA Junkie. "People have been talking about the demise of boxing for 30 years, and we're still here talking about boxing right now. I have always had an idea of how I thought it should be done. I don't know if that's possible, but we're going to find out.""I'm coming in guns blazing," White added. When asked where the boxing facilities would be centered, White said he would "build the offices right here at the [UFC] Apex. ... I'm planning to build all the infrastructure right here."White noted that anyone signed under the UFC, Power Slap, or a proposed boxing promotion has access to their facilities.A reporter also asked if UFC fighters might be taking a break to fight for the boxing promotion in the future. White responded by saying, "God, I hope not."In 2019, the UFC boss' plan was to promote boxers just like in the UFC and hope to avoid the many boxing crossovers that have occurred since then."I'm sure you can assume the people I would not be working with," White concluded, likely referring to YouTuber turned boxing star Jake Paul. “I don't think you have to be a f***ing genius to figure that one out."Like Blaze News? Harris demands amnesty for illegal aliens after yet another alleged murder by imported criminal

Kamala Harris has tried on several new accents and personas in recent weeks in hopes of simulating a Democratic candidate whom Americans might care to vote for. As part of this broader campaign, Harris has begun masquerading as a border defender despite her past criticism of the border wall and her failure as border czar to prevent tens of millions of illegal aliens from stealing into the homeland. Harris let this new mask slip during her solo interview Wednesday with MSNBC when she suggested that, if elected president, she would remedy America's "broken immigration system" by rewarding some of the illegal aliens who jumped the border with "pathways" to citizenship. While this campaign promise was already baked into Harris' remodel of Biden's campaign site, it appears to have caught some Americans off guard when said aloud — especially those previously kept in the dark about Harris' policies during her months-long media blackout. 'This woman is truly dangerous to the future of America.' "They are importing voters," wrote Elon Musk. The Heritage Foundation's Oversight Project has underscored in recent months the threat of election interference by both the Biden-Harris administration and illegal aliens. Blaze News previously noted that troubling footage published by the Oversight Project appears to show a handful of noncitizens at the apartment complex Elliot Norcross in Norcross, Georgia, admitting they were registered to vote. The watchdog group speculated on the bases of the encountered sample size and estimates that out of America's "unauthorized population," there may be enough registered illegal alien voters to significantly impact the election — a suggestion on which Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Democrats have attempted to cast doubt. Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk said of Harris' pledge on MSNBC: "This woman is truly dangerous to the future of America." Harris' pledge to reward foreign nationals who stole into the country with possible citizenship — a surefire incentive for more border crossings — comes on the heels of another brutal slaying allegedly committed by an illegal alien. Maryland's Montgomery County Department of Police arrested Gerber Luis Sanchez Centeno, a 23-year-old from El Salvador, on Sept. 18 and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with the brutal slaying of 18-year-old Dania Cruz-Mejia of Montgomery Village. Montgomery County Department of Police An Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesperson confirmed to the Daily Caller that the alleged murderer was living in the U.S. illegally. Although arrested by Border Patrol in June, Sanchez-Centeno was dumped into a program modified and expanded by the Biden-Harris administration, which let him avoid detention and ultimately set him loose in the American interior. ICE indicated it has placed a detainer request with the Montgomery County Detention Center. It's unclear if the jail will comply with the federal agency's request. While potential murderers are piling into the country, now possibly expecting pathways to citizenship, there are potentially also terrorists in the mix. Aaron Heitke, the recently retired chief Border Patrol agent for the San Diego sector, told Congress last week that the Biden-Harris administration hid information about illegal aliens with terrorism ties from the American public as part of its effort to "quiet the border-wide crisis." Heitke indicated that the Biden-Harris administration's policies left fast stretches of the border virtually undefended in various high-traffic areas for "weeks and months at a time," while unknown numbers of dangerous foreign nationals poured in. A new AMD Ryzen 5 9600X3D budget gaming CPU is reportedly already in the works

AMD is reportedly already working on a budget X3D gaming CPU based on its latest Zen 5 architecture. According to the latest word from the rumor mill, the new AMD Ryzen 5 9600X3D has six cores, rather than the eight expected on the 9800X3D, but will still have the same 64MB stack of 3D V-cache to improve gaming performance. AMD’s 3D V-cache has proved to be a winner when it comes to gaming frame rates, as we found in our Ryzen 7 7800X3D review. This chip is still the best gaming CPU we’ve tested, but it’s been out for well over a year now, and it was only in the last few weeks that the six-core Ryzen 5 7600X3D was announced as a cheaper option. This time, however, it looks as though there could be a budget AMD X3D chip out even sooner. Age of Mythology Retold set to get even bigger with huge new expansion

Age of Mythology: Retold is one of the best strategy games to come out this year. As the genre moves forward with new entries like Frostpunk 2, Manor Lords, and Homeworld 3, it's also looked back to a classic RTS that originally launched all the way back in 2002 as an Age of Empires spin-off. While Retold hasn't come out without a degree of controversy focused on its microtransactions, the core of the game itself is solid, with the remake serving as a good way for newcomers or experienced players to check out Age of Mythology on modern systems. It's also about to make up for one glaring absence from its launch, adding in units and gods inspired by Chinese mythology with the newly announced Immortal Pillars DLC.
