A University of Illinois-Bloomington student was awarded six figures in damages after a jury found the university had discriminated against him based on his sex. The student, who will be referred to as John Doe, appears to be the first student who has won on Title IX grounds – that is, he was found to be discriminated against specifically because he was a male and not on the grounds that the school breached its contract with him. In June 2020, John was a student at IU and matched with a woman who will be referred to as Jane Doe on a dating app. On the evening of June 16, 2020, Jane texted John and agreed to come to his house for a date, even after John suggested meeting somewhere else. Jane arrived at John’s house, and the two talked for a bit. They had two glasses of wine, including a glass Jane had poured for each of them. Just after midnight, Jane received a phone call from a friend asking if she needed a ride home, but she said no. She texted the friend about 40 minutes later to say “looks like I’ll be here a hot minute,” according to court documents reviewed by The Daily Wire. Jane would later claim that immediately after this, she “blacked out” and didn’t remember anything that happened – and suggested that John had drugged her. John says in his lawsuit against the university that Jane showed no signs of incapacitation or being blacked out – which is a state of mind where the brain doesn’t form short-term memories, but people in such a state can appear completely coherent. He said Jane started kissing him, and the two went up to his room where they, two math majors, completed complex math problems. The two then laid down in John’s bed and, according to John, Jane initiated sexual contact with him, removing her shirt and bra and initiating kissing. John said in his lawsuit that he asked to stop, feeling they were moving too fast. He went to the bathroom and returned to find Jane asleep in his bed, so he got into bed next to her and fell asleep as well. At some point, Jane started receiving calls from her roommate but wouldn’t wake up when John tried to let her know. He said he eventually answered the call and said Jane was asleep and didn’t want to talk. Jane’s roommate told him that she was coming to get Jane. This roommate later said they found Jane naked in John’s bed and that she appeared “out of it.” With John’s help, the roommate and another friend gathered Jane’s things and left John’s house. Early the next morning, John texted Jane to say he was “sorry about last night,” referring to the awkwardness of Jane leaving his home. Jane claimed she didn’t know what happened and that her roommate was mad at her. Jane claimed she “did not know how she got that drunk” and told John she was “really sorry,” according to court documents. The two discussed the events of the previous night and Jane’s level of intoxication. About seven hours after their encounter, Jane texted John, saying, “You do realize you sexually assaulted me, right? I just talked to my roommate and got a much better idea of what happened last night.” John didn’t respond. A couple of days later, Jane went to the hospital for a rape test kit and drug test. She then reported John to the police and IU. Police investigated, and no charges were brought, but IU went ahead with its own investigation that didn’t allow John full use of counsel, denied him the ability to cross-examine witnesses, and gave him only a single, time-limited chance to see the evidence against him. He was found not responsible for drugging Jane – and she never turned over the results of her drug test – but was still found responsible for sexually assaulting her, even by her own admission she only had 2-and-a-half glasses of wine. John sued the university, and the case went all the way to a jury trial, which ruled in favor of John and awarded him $136,782.60, which, according to his attorney, Jonathan Little, is less than what he paid in legal fees. Little told The Daily Wire that he typically represents victims but has been taking cases involving false accusations of men on college campuses. “The process given to these men is just a farce,” he said, noting that the current campus climate at IU and other schools “gives the impression that any young lady can run to Illinois University and cry rape.” He added that IU spent the trial going over its policies, essentially arguing that it could follow its own policies and not the law set forth under Title IX. “IU’s hubris lost them this case and I hope that what we did is replicable – I believe that it is – and I hope that other lawyers can look at this and do the same thing,” he told The Daily Wire. The university did not respond to a Daily Wire inquiry prior to press time.

The U.S. Secret Service admitted to numerous failures on Friday during the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13 at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Secret Service acting Director Ronald Rowe said during a press conference that the Secret Service was solely responsible for protecting the president and presidential candidates and that it needed to be able to fulfill its mission without support from the Department of Homeland Security. “The Secret Service did not give clear guidance or direction to our local law enforcement partners,” he said. “There were communication deficiencies between law enforcement personnel at the site. For example, the Secret Service did not co-locate its security room with local law enforcement, there was an over-reliance on mobile devices, resulting in information being siloed.” Rowe laid out a timeline of events that demonstrated how these issues caused inaction by the Secret Service in the moments leading up to Trump being shot by the would-be assassin. While some members of the advance team were very diligent, there was complacency on the part of others that led to a breach of security protocols.” Rowe added that the Secret Service agents who failed that day would be “held accountable” through a “robust table of penalties” that would be administered. He said that in light of the events of July 13 and the second assassination attempt on Trump on Sunday, the agency would be undergoing a transformational “paradigm shift” in how it approaches its mission. “The paradigm shift will be a driving force to move the Secret Service from a state of reaction to a state of readiness,” he said. “And the vision is for the Secret Service to be more agile, with the ability to escalate protection to the highest levels for numerous protectees for undetermined periods of time. But in order to do this, we need additional personnel, technical assets, and equipment for the sustainment of immediate and future needs.”

Judicial Watch is suing the Biden-Harris administration in order to receive documents on the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) promotion of transgender sex change operations for minors. The suit comes after Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request in early July requesting documents pertaining to HHS Assistant Secretary Admiral Rachel Levine’s involvement in pressuring a health organization to drop age requirements for sex change procedures. HHS failed to respond to the FOIA request, Judicial Watch says. “Judicial Watch announced today it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,” the organization stated in a press release, adding that the suit seeks “all records of communications of Assistant Secretary Rachel Levine regarding pressure put on an international group of medical experts to remove age limit guidelines on transgender procedures.” “Biden-Harris appointee Admiral Levine, who abused power and is notorious for promoting transgender extremist policies, promoted mutilating surgeries for minors,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton contended. “It is no wonder the Biden-Harris administration wants to cover this up with unlawful secrecy. Judicial Watch’s lawsuit to expose the truth is urgently needed to protect children.” The lawsuit to procure the documents comes after The Daily Wire reported that Levine, a man who identifies as a woman, met with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), and urged the organization to drop age requirements from its standards of care document. One member of Levine’s staff warned WPATH that age requirements could contribute to “devastating legislation for trans care,” going on to say that Levine “wonders if the specific ages can be taken out.” Another email, this one from WPATH, thanked Levine for meeting with the organization and explained that it decided to remove the age requirements upon the transgender government official’s request. “We heard your comments regarding the minimal age criteria… Consequently, we have made changes to the SOC8 in this respect… They are now not a recommendation from the SOC-8 anymore,” the email reads. “Assistant Secretary Levine … influence[d] the substantive content of SOC-8 [Standards of Care], based on political goals rather than science,” Psychologist Dr. James Cantor said while providing testimony during legal proceedings that uncovered communications between the HHS official and WPATH. “Specifically, Assistant Secretary Levine, through a staff member, pressured WPATH to remove recommended minimum ages for medical transition treatments from SOC-8.” Dr. Stanley Goldfarb, the Chairman of Do No Harm, similarly criticized Levine, also tearing into WPATH for prioritizing politics over health. “The collusion between WPATH and the administration through Rachel Levine is turning into one of the most disturbing medical scandals of this generation,” Goldfarb told The Daily Wire after the relationship between Levine and WPATH became public. “These documents reveal WPATH knowingly put political considerations over the health and safety of children, destroying what little credibility they once had. This behavior violates the oath we all take as doctors.”

We’re getting to the point where even the most Left-wing news outlets are becoming frustrated with how little Kamala Harris is speaking to the press. Axios for example reported the other day: Exclusive: The Harris-Walz ticket is on pace to do fewer interviews and press conferences than any major party’s presidential pairing in modern U.S. history. According to the data, JD Vance alone has done seven times more interviews and press conferences than Kamala Harris and Tim Walz combined. This near-total media blackout makes it all the more important to pay attention to the very few times that Kamala Harris is willing to speak off-the-cuff. We had one of those moments earlier this week, when Kamala Harris spoke with something called “The National Association of Black Journalists,” or NABJ. It’s still not clear why we have a segregated association of black journalists, or why politicians think it’s important to speak to them. But apparently, this is considered to be a worthwhile stop for every candidate. Donald Trump spoke to the NABJ a few weeks ago. He was heckled throughout his appearance, and the moderators were extremely hostile to him. But he did it. Kamala Harris, on the other hand, was not heckled by the black journalists’ association. Instead, for roughly an hour, she was allowed to lie repeatedly, without being interrupted or corrected a single time, as far as I can tell. And one of those lies was particularly egregious. In response to a question about abortion, Kamala Harris suggested that the so-called heartbeat bill in Georgia — which bans abortion after a heartbeat is detected — was to blame for the recent death of a 28-year-old woman named Amber Thurman. And by extension, Kamala Harris implicated Donald Trump, the Supreme Court, and the entire pro-life movement. Watch: First she portrays Donald Trump as nefarious because he “hand-picked” three Supreme Court justices. I guess he was supposed to just draw their names from a hat or something. And then Kamala Harris launches into a narrative that’s been making its way throughout the mainstream media in recent days. It originated in an outlet called ProPublica, which is best-known for posting a series of recent hit pieces on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Here’s how one news station reported on the story: You’d be hard-pressed to find a more absurd and self-contradictory news segment anywhere on television. The report begins by stating that Amber Thurman died because of a “lack of abortion care access.” According to this report, Thurman’s death was “preventable” because she drove from Georgia to North Carolina to get an abortion when she was about nine weeks pregnant with twins. But because of a traffic jam, she missed her appointment, so she was given abortion pills. Then she drove back to Georgia, where she began suffering serious complications from sepsis, which is a potentially fatal response to bacterial infection. And then, according to this report, doctors in Georgia didn’t perform a so-called “D&C” procedure in order to save the life of the mother. They waited more than 20 hours before significant intervention, supposedly because they were worried that they might be prosecuted under Georgia’s heartbeat law. WATCH: The Matt Walsh Show And then, after all of this reporting, they casually mention at the very end of the news report that none of this has anything to do with Georgia’s heartbeat law, which has clear exceptions in emergencies where the life of the mother is at stake. And that’s true. Here’s what the law says, directly from the Georgia Department of Health: The law provides that no abortion shall be performed if the unborn child has a detectable human heartbeat except (a) in the event of a medical emergency or medically futile pregnancy … or (b) in cases involving rape or incest in which an official police report has been filed and where the probable gestational age of the unborn child is 20 weeks or less. The law does not prohibit the removal of a dead unborn child caused by a spontaneous abortion or the removal of an ectopic pregnancy. Anyone connecting this incident to the Georgia heartbeat law is lying. And they’re doing it in the most flagrant and reprehensible way imaginable. They are using the death of a young woman and her two children in order to defame the pro-life movement. The Atlantic, for example, wrote this: Some tragedies are impossible to prevent, or even to predict. The death of Amber Nicole Thurman was not. She was perhaps the first woman killed by the overturning of Roe v. Wade. For her part, Kamala Harris said in a statement: This young mother should be alive, raising her son, and pursuing her dream of attending nursing school. … Now women are dying. These are the consequences of Donald Trump’s actions. Yes, she referred to her as a “young mother,” even as this “young mother” killed her two children. This is a story that Kamala Harris now pushes at every opportunity. Yesterday she sat down with Oprah, for example. And they strongly imply, once again, that Georgia’s law somehow was involved in what happened here. And then they play a montage that contradicts that narrative: Oprah and Kamala blame Amber Thurman’s death on pro-life laws — then play a montage which explains that her death was not, in fact, due to pro-life laws but complications from abortion drugs pic.twitter.com/wo1rapObiu — Mary Margaret Olohan (@MaryMargOlohan) September 20, 2024 As Erick Erickson has pointed out, this isn’t just a hoax. It’s also a clear example of projection. The pro-life movement didn’t kill this woman — the abortion pill did. These drugs are not, in fact, “as safe as Tylenol,” as Planned Parenthood claims. Researchers have long understood that sepsis is a “rare but potentially fatal adverse effect” of abortion drugs. What can happen is that, in some cases, after these drugs kill the child, there’s dead tissue that remains. And that tissue can cause a serious infection if it’s not expelled from the body. So the pill can cause the intended death of the child, and the unintended death of the mother. Of course, no one at the National Association of Black Journalists pointed this out to Kamala Harris when she spoke with them. Instead they let her continue to ramble for another minute or so. Then they pivoted to a question about why it’s important for her to be joyful. That’s how shameless and embarrassing this whole event was. Here’s the rest of Kamala Harris’ answer, and then we’ll play the follow-up question: So Kamala Harris lies about the death of a young woman and her children in Georgia. Then she says you’re “immoral” if you think that the government should “tell a woman what to do about her own body and her life” and her “best interests.” She also suggests that the Georgia law bans abortion in cases of rape and incest, which isn’t true. And instead of any kind of follow-up, she gets asked about her “joy.” No one at this useless organization of “black journalists” thought to correct the record on Amber Thurman. No one thought to point out that, in fact, the pro-life movement is concerned about the “best interests” and the “body” of the child, in addition to the mother. Am I Racist? In her entire, two-minute-long rambling answer, Kamala Harris didn’t explain why mothers should be able to kill their children if they determine that it’s in their “best interests.” Instead, she simply declared that, if you’re a Christian or a Muslim or any other religious faith, then killing children isn’t really incompatible with your beliefs. Just take Kamala Harris’ word on that. She’s an expert on the topic. She celebrates Kwanzaa, after all. There’s another Georgia woman mentioned in this report from ProPublica, named Candi Miller. She was a 41-year-old mother of three who suffered from diabetes, lupus, and hypertension. Apparently her health was so “fragile” that doctors warned another pregnancy could kill her. According to ProPublica, when she became pregnant anyway in 2022: … she avoided doctors and navigated an abortion on her own … Miller ordered abortion pills online, but she did not expel all the fetal tissue and would need a [D&C] procedure to clear it from her uterus and stave off sepsis, a grave and painful infection. … Her teenage son watched her suffer for days after she took the pills, bedridden and moaning. In the early hours of Nov. 12, 2022, her husband found her unresponsive in bed, her 3-year-old daughter at her side. An autopsy later: … found a lethal combination of painkillers, including the dangerous opioid fentanyl. This situation, again, is being blamed on the pro-life movement and the overturning of Roe. ProPublica, citing a report from a state committee of “experts,” concluded that this was also a “preventable” death, because they determined that Candi Miller was “responding” to the Georgia legislation when she ordered the abortion pills online. But again, that doesn’t make the Georgia legislation responsible for what happened. If doctors — or patients — misunderstand the law, that’s not the law’s fault. If this woman had gone to the hospital instead of taking a lethal combination of painkillers, then doctors could have saved her life. Under Georgia law, they would’ve been able to do that. In reality, abortion pills are what led to the deaths of these women and their children in Georgia. These mothers’ decision to kill their children is the reason that all of this happened. Every reasonable person who looks at these cases will come to that conclusion. And yet the Democrats have found a way to make these deaths an indictment of the pro-life movement. And once again, the media is going along with it. Every abortion-related death is somehow transformed into a death called by a “lack of access to abortion.” Kamala Harris and the National Association of Black Journalists would rather push this false narrative, instead of being honest with women about the consequences of these pills. These are people who would rather see women die than tell them not to kill their children. And as a result, many more women like Candi Miller and Amber Thurman will do just that.
