Teamsters president torches Ocasio-Cortez after she reacts furiously to union refusal to endorse Harris

Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reacted furiously to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters refusing to endorse the Democratic ticket, and the union president fired right back. The political world reeled on Wednesday after the International Brotherhood of Teamsters said it would not endorse any president for November's election after endorsing Democrats for decades. The decision was seen as a victory for efforts by former President Donald Trump to court the union away from the left. 'She may want to focus on her job instead of mine.' Ocasio-Cortez had a histrionic response to the decision and bashed Sean O'Brien, the union president. "I'm very disappointed in Sean O'Brien's leadership. I have found it increasingly alarming all year," she said to Manu Raju of CNN. "When the Teamsters are in trouble, who do the call?" she asked. "When we need to make sure that Teamsters' pensions are bailed out, when we need to make sure that they have a fair shake at the negotiating table with rail? It was Sean O'Brien calling on Democrats for help." "Sean O’Brien has been boosting Republicans all year while supporting anti-worker, anti-choice Senate candidates," she added on X. O'Brien responded by firing right back at Ocasio-Cortez. “She should maybe get into her district where it voted far-right Republican,” he said, "and maybe find out what the problem is. When I have a problem at a worksite, and there is criticism, I get right in there and find out what it is." When he was pushed by CNN's Dana Bash by what he meant, he claimed that Teamsters members in her district voted overwhelmingly to support Trump. "So she may want to focus on her job instead of mine," he added. Ocasio-Cortez responded by posting the endorsement from Teamsters in the district for the Harris-Walz Democratic ticket. "The NY-14 Teamsters mentioned here have actually voted overwhelmingly to endorse Harris-Walz," she posted. " So let’s set the record straight: Teamsters Local 202 are all in for Harris." Why a Kamala Harris presidency would be DEVASTATING for small businesses

Why a Kamala Harris presidency would be DEVASTATING for small businesses

Kamala Harris claims under her and Biden’s leadership, a record of 19 million small business applications were received — but Glenn Beck and small business expert Carol Roth aren’t buying it. “What is a small business application?” Roth begins. “When I started my business, I didn’t have to apply at the federal level.” “What does this mean? Because we have 33-plus million small businesses, but that only grows on net less than one million a year. So how is it possible that we have 19 million new application starts? And so far, no one’s really been able to give me an answer,” Roth explains. “It’s crazy,” Glenn responds. “I see this number of 19 million small businesses, and I thought that was just because of all the businesses they had put out of business, they’re like starting up new businesses. So I just thought they were taking credit like they do with all the job creation.” Meanwhile, Kamala has been sounding off about support of anti-small business policies like the PRO Act, which Roth explains as “the anti-gig worker and anti-independent contractor language from California’s AB5 taken nationally.” “They want to kill the gig economy and all the small businesses that depend on independent contractors in favor of unions and big business,” Roth says. “It’s very difficult to say ‘I am the small business, I am the worker candidate,' and still be in favor of these things.” To put it as simply as possible, Roth equates Kamala’s supposed support of small business to “like McDonald's being pro-cow.” Glenn is in full agreement. “It honestly is like they are trying to impoverish the small business, and impoverish the middle class, without moving any of the middle class up,” he says. Concord director reportedly steps down, game future still uncertain

Despite the general feeling that Concord would struggle on release, I don’t think anyone truly expected things to play out quite how they did. Only two weeks after the game launched, Sony and the game’s director, Ryan Ellis, announced that it would be removed from sale, taken offline, and players would be refunded for their purchases. Following that, reports have emerged that indicate Ellis has stepped down from his position, with the wider team as yet unsure about the game’s future. US online passport renewal is now fully open for business

The Verge’s Sean Hollister picking up his new passport at the post office. | Photo by Sean Hollister / The Verge If you read my colleague Sean Hollister’s positive experience renewing his US passport online through a beta website from the State Department — without needing to ship his old passport — I have good news for you: that experience is now available for everyone. You can access it right here. “Instead of printing a paper application and mailing it with a check, Americans can now renew their passports through a secure process that will save time and effort,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken writes in an announcement about the program. Right now, the renewal website is showing a six- to eight-week estimate for processing times, and the State Department notes that mailing times aren’t included in that estimate. That all means you may not get... Continue reading…

Anker recall: Stop using these three power banks right now

If you have a phone or a tablet, there's a good chance that you own or have considered buying one of Anker's popular chargers or power banks. If you do have any Anker accessories around, you may want to stop using them, because Anker issued a recall for three of its popular power banks this week due to defective lithium-ion batteries. According to the recall notice on Anker's website, certain lithium-ion batteries used in the Anker 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K), Anker Power Bank, and Anker MagGo Power Bank may pose a fire risk due to a manufacturing defect. As a result, the defective batteries can overheat, "potentially causing melting of plastic components, smoke and fire hazards." Anker says the defect may only affect a batch of batteries that were used in products produced from January 3, 2024, to September 17, 2024. Nevertheless, the company is issuing a recall for all three product lines "out of an abundance of caution." The recall notice specifically mentions models A1642, A1647, and A1652. If you own one of the power banks, check the bottom of the device for those model numbers. If you have a device that has been recalled, here's what Anker says to do next: Store this device in a safe location. Click here to verify your SN, and if it matches, please continue to fill out your product recall information. Immediately stop using this product. DO NOT throw the powerbank into the trash or recycling bin. Please dispose of your device at a facility that accepts lithium batteries (see resources below). This is Anker's second recall of 2024, following the June recall of the Anker 321 Power Bank. That recall was caused by the same issue present here.
