Full-Fledged War Between Israel and Hezbollah Is Imminent

Israel is about to go to full-fledged war with Hezbollah. Yesterday, Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant warned the US that time had all but run out. Gallant warned the US yesterday that time had run out. The only way to restore northern Israel, Gallant told Biden adviser Amos Hochstein, was through military action to destroy the […] The post Full-Fledged War Between Israel and Hezbollah Is Imminent appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Speaker Presses On With Funding Stopgap Linked To Non-Citizen Voting Crackdown

As part of a bid to dodge a government shutdown next month, the GOP-led House is expected to vote Wednesday on a short-term spending measure combined with reforms meant to help prevent non-citizens from voting in federal elections. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced on Tuesday the lower chamber would proceed with a six-month continuing resolution (CR) plus the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, setting up a clash with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and the White House — if the House can manage to pass the proposal in the first place. “Congress has an immediate obligation to do two things: responsibly fund the federal government and ensure the security of our elections,” he said in a statement posted to X. “Because we owe this to our constituents, we will move forward on Wednesday with a vote on the 6-month CR with the SAVE Act attached.” Johnson added, “I urge all of my colleagues to do what the overwhelming majority of the people of this county rightfully demand and deserve — prevent non-American citizens from voting in American elections.” The SAVE Act, which passed the House in July with some bipartisan support but never got taken up by the Democrat-controlled Senate, aims to require that individuals show proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in elections for federal office and pushes states to remove non-citizens from voter rolls. Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! Critics of the legislation, including the White House, have argued it is unnecessary and would create an undue burden on legitimate voters, but a report from Johnson warned of a National Voter Registration Act “loophole” in which states do not ask for proof of citizenship when registering an individual to vote in federal elections and cited evidence of non-citizens appearing on voter rolls in places such as Massachusetts, Ohio, and Virginia. Johnson nixed a vote last week on the combined CR through March 28 and the SAVE Act, saying he was committed to “consensus building” through the weekend as it appeared leadership may not have enough support to pass it. While it is not clear if any Democrats will vote in favor of the proposal, some Republicans have voiced opposition to the idea. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) bemoaned how Congress has been unable to pass a full slate of appropriations bills for fiscal 2025 and said he would not support a “bill that continues our path of destructive spending.” Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) vouched for the plan, posting, “Want to avoid a lame-duck omnibus? Pass a six-month CR with the SAVE Act attached.” While Schumer rejected Johnson’s gambit, declaring that the Senate would not put up with “Republican extremism,” President Joe Biden threatened to veto the House GOP’s proposal. Former President Donald Trump urged Republicans to allow a shutdown if they cannot secure a short-term spending measure in addition to “election security” reforms. There could be room for bipartisan negotiating on certain aspects of the stopgap funding legislation as Republicans and Democrats have indicated they might push to include extra money for the Secret Service to meet security demands following a second assassination attempt on Trump this election cycle took place over the weekend in Florida.

Perry Farrell Apologizes To Jane’s Addiction Bandmates Following On Stage Altercation

Jane’s Addiction frontman and singer Perry Farrell has issued an apology following an on-stage fight that occurred over the weekend. The 65-year-old singer issued the statement following the cancellation of the band’s reunion tour, their first time touring together in 15 years.  “This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show. Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation,” Farrell said in a statement, per Variety. Footage of singer Perry Farrell becoming aggressive with guitarist Dave Navarro started circulating online following their concert in Boston on Friday night. Farrell could be seen body-checking Navarro several times and yelling in his face. Then two individuals rushed in from off-stage, but it became more difficult to see what was going on as the lights went down. Farrell was pulled off stage by bass guitarist Eric Avery and two other band members, the outlet noted. Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! The band issued a statement on the incident. Navarro also provided insight into the altercation, sharing on social media, “Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour. Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.” The guitarist went on, “We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis. Our hearts are broken.”  The statement is signed by “Dave, Eric and Stephen (Perkins).” Farrell’s wife also said on social media that her husband was becoming upset that his voice could not be heard over the instruments. All 15 remaining shows in the Jane’s Addiction tour were canceled. The band, which became popular in the late 80s and early 90s, is known for songs like “Jane Says,” “Been Caught Stealing,” and “Just Because.”

‘Reaction Is Unacceptable:’ Chris Cuomo Calls, Apologizes To Trump After Assassination Attempt

Journalist Chris Cuomo revealed Monday that he called former President Donald Trump after the second assassination attempt against him, saying he is “ashamed” of the “unacceptable” reaction from the media. The former CNN host, who anchored a show at the network for eight years until 2021, made the remarks on his primetime NewsNation show Monday night. “The reaction is unacceptable,” Cuomo said. “Media and political players have gotten away with playing down what should be a cause for panic.” On Sunday, Trump was targeted by a suspect who pointed an AK-47-style rifle through a fence at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course. Secret Service opened fire on the suspect, who fled but was later arrested. Trump remained safe and unharmed during the incident. We all know what is wrong with our politics and us as a people. How do we get to a better place? I don't know what sets us right but I know damn well what is wrong. Thoughts? pic.twitter.com/YOjMk9A5MW — Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) September 17, 2024   “‘Oh but the guy didn’t even shoot.’ What if it was your father? Or what if it was Kamala Harris or President Biden, God forbid?” Cuomo said. “Do you think that it would be almost a shoulder shrug and more talk about the Secret Service and allocation of funds than just how crazy it is that this is what’s happening in our country?” Cuomo also slammed the “fake concern by our sitting president and almost nothing from the Democrat who wants to lead us.” “I called former President Trump,” Cuomo said. “I didn’t ask him any questions. I didn’t go after him about his role. I just want to know how his family’s taking this.” “I wanted to just say, listen, I’m really sorry that this is going on and it’s being dealt with this way,” Cuomo continued. “Not because I’m in favor of his politics or what he says. I criticize him all the time. That’s my job, and he deserves it. But he doesn’t deserve this, a guy pointing an AK-47 at him while he’s playing golf? And we take solace in the fact that the guy didn’t get any rounds off? That does not work for me. If I had been through what that guy has been through in the last two months you would not know where I am. You would never see me on TV again. No way I would do that. I don’t know how he does it. He’s got kids that are adults, but he’s got grandkids. He’s got a wife.” Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! Cuomo also said critics should apologize to Trump’s wife, Melania, for mocking her fears about plots against her husband. Last week, Don Lemon, another former CNN anchor, posted a video of himself rolling his eyes and criticizing a video of Melania Trump expressing concerns about the “horrible and distressing experience” of watching her husband be nearly assassinated. “I don’t think she’s right, but I totally get why she feels that way, and people mock her?” Cuomo said. Cuomo added that the rhetoric around both candidates is overblown, saying Trump is not a “despot in waiting” and Vice President Kamala Harris is “not a communist.” “You can think what you want about Trump,” he said. “He does not have many more full-throated critics of what he says and does than me, okay? And yet I called him today because I am ashamed of how we are responding and not responding to the threats on him. And I feel for his family.” “We are playing a dangerous game with ourselves, and we’re doing it for petty stakes,” Cuomo said.
