A former top adviser to Bill and Hillary Clinton has called for ABC News to launch an internal investigation into allegations of “rigging the outcome” of the debate against Donald Trump. “I actually think they should do a full internal investigation, hire an outside law firm. I don’t know how much of this was planned in advance,” Mark Penn said on the “John Solomon Reports” podcast. “I don’t know what they told the Harris campaign. I think the day after, suspicion here is really quite high, and I think a review of all their internal texts and emails really should be done by an independent party to find out to what extent they were planning on, in effect, you know, fact-checking just one candidate and in effect, rigging the outcome of this debate. I think the situation demands nothing less than that,” he continued. The leftist New York City Council passed legislation on Thursday that pushes the largest city in the U.S. closer to a program that would hand out reparations to black residents. The passage of two bills sponsored by Councilmembers Crystal Hudson and Farah Louis means NYC taxpayers will now fund a “Truth, Healing and Reconciliation Commission” along with a reparations task force, Fox News reported. The legislation will also require information signs to be posted at the site of New York City’s “first slave market,” according to a press release from the city council. “The legacy of slavery and systemic racism has impacted all facets of our society today, and it’s important that our city recognizes and takes steps to redress these longstanding harms,” NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams said. “By creating new processes to fully examine the present-day impacts of injustices inflicted on Black New Yorkers and communities, we are advancing necessary efforts to consider potential remedies that can lead to healing and reconciliation.” Hudson, who sponsored one of the bills, said the passage of her legislation is a major step in her “Black Agenda for New York City.” She added that “it is [her] hope that as the nation’s largest city––with the biggest municipal budget––our truth, healing, and reconciliation process will work; it will identify racist, anti-Black policies at the foundation of our city’s institutions, and it will yield material solutions to address these foundational cracks.” Am I Racist? Louis, whose bill focused on starting a reparations task force, said, “Throughout my tenure in the Council, we have heard countless testimonies and conducted numerous hearings revealing the ongoing impacts of historical injustices. Black women, in particular, continue to be disadvantaged in both public and private sectors, facing systemic inequities that hinder their progress and well-being. Addressing these compounded injustices is essential to forming a more just municipality and society.” Republican City Council Minority Leader Joseph Borelli blasted the legislation, telling the New York Post that he would move out of the city before paying reparations. “If they can introduce me to one New Yorker who owned a slave I’d be happy to consider it,” he said. “But until then, I am not paying a dime as a reparation for a harm I did not cause, nor condone, nor once participated in.” Numerous cities — and the states of New York and California — have created reparations task forces in the wake of George Floyd’s death and the protests and riots in the summer of 2020. Many of the task forces have failed to yield any significant results, and two members of Detroit’s reparations task force stepped down last year after expressing frustration over the lack of “progress.” Even though slavery was never legal in California, the state’s exploration into slavery reparations has seen the most success, with Gov. Gavin Newsom signing a state budget in July that included $12 million for reparations legislation. Vice President Kamala Harris has also expressed her support for reparations, saying in 2019, “I think there has to be some form of reparations, and we could discuss what that is, but look, we’re looking at more than 200 years of slavery. We’re looking at almost 100 years of Jim Crow.” She also said as a candidate in 2019 that if elected president, she would sign a bill that would provide reparations to the descendants of African slaves. The Harris campaign has not said if the Democratic nominee still supports that position.

Federal law enforcement officials are preparing to file criminal charges against those responsible for carrying out Iran’s hacking of former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign. The investigation was initiated after an online persona named “Robert” approached news organizations and offered reporters documents that they claimed were obtained while working for the campaign, The Washington Post reported. “Robert” is an individual or group that was allegedly acting at the direction of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the sole purpose of hacking Trump’s campaign and then disseminating damaging information about it to news organizations in hopes of influencing the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. ABC News reported that criminal charges are expected to be filed as soon as next week. The cyberattack targeted top Trump campaign officials, including Susie Wiles, one of his campaign managers, and other campaign advisers. The Post noted that when these types of cyberattacks are launched at U.S. officials, those responsible usually live in countries that will not extradite them to the U.S., so the chances that they will ever face trial are slim, at least in the near future. Federal authorities still proceed with the charges because sometimes the suspects will travel to another country that does extradite criminals and because they believe that “name and shame” campaigns can potentially deter some from participating in these types of attacks in the future. Matthew Olsen, the head of the Justice Department’s National Security Division, warned this week about Iran’s rapidly increasing aggression against the U.S., especially surrounding the upcoming election and Trump. Olsen said Iran “is making a greater effort to influence this year’s election than it has in prior election cycles.” “Iranian activity is growing increasingly aggressive as this election nears,” he said. “Iran perceives this year’s elections to be particularly consequential in impacting Iran’s national security interests, increasing Tehran’s inclination to try to shape the outcome.”

Harris-Walz campaign co-chair Mitch Landrieu bragged about Vice-President Kamala Harris’ contribution to the Biden-Harris administration on Thursday, boasting that she “helped him (President Joe Biden) do all the things that were done in the time that she was there. And I think she’s proud of that.” Landrieu appeared on CNN’s “Inside Politics” with host Dana Bash. Bash stated, “If you look at the voters who aren’t sure who to vote for, and if the crisis of affordability, I call it, is their top concern, what they know about Donald Trump is that they could afford more when he was president up until the pandemic. And they don’t know what she will bring.” Ignoring the fact that the economy under Trump was roaring until the COVID pandemic, Landrieu claimed, “Well, first of all, that’s what they think, but of course that is not accurate. The economy when Donald Trump was president was terrible.” “I think Joe Biden is going to go down in history as being one of the most consequential presidents in the history of America,” Landrieu trumpeted. “And she was his vice president and she helped him do all the things that were done in the Biden time that she was there, and I think that she’s proud of that.” Am I Racist? Quickly segueing, he added, “But nobody should be unclear of the fact that she is her own person.” Landrieu tried to deflect from Biden’s unpopular policies, saying, “For people who didn’t like Joe Biden, one of the reasons they didn’t like him was not because of his policies. One of the reasons was they thought that he was too old and they said that over and over again.” Landrieu claimed that voters “understand that it’s a choice between Donald Trump who wants to go backwards and Kamala Harris is going to go forward.” He didn’t explain what “going forward” would mean. During the debate with former President Trump, Harris was asked about the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan under President Biden. The question was, “Do you believe you bear any responsibility in the way that withdrawal played out?” Harris would not answer the question, only saying, “I agreed with President Biden’s decision to pull out of Afghanistan,” and then she attacked Trump.
