Seth MacFarlane’s Company Picks Up Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl for Adaptation

News Dungeon Crawler Carl Seth MacFarlane’s Company Picks Up Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl for Adaptation The self-published sensation is set to become a television series. By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on August 21, 2024 Comment 0 Share New Share In a move that cheekily mirrors the events of the book, Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl will be heading to a television screen near you. Today, Deadline broke the news that Universal International Studios and Seth MacFarlane’s production company, Fuzzy Door, are looking to adapt the novel for television, with Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok, The Mandalorian) penning the scripts. In Dungeon Crawler Carl, the titular Carl finds himself living in an apocalyptic world struggling to survive along with his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut. The blurb for the book says it all: You know what’s worse than breaking up with your girlfriend? Being stuck with her prize-winning show cat. And you know what’s worse than that? An alien invasion, the destruction of all man-made structures on Earth, and the systematic exploitation of all the survivors for a sadistic, intergalactic game show. That’s what.Join Coast Guard vet Carl and his ex-girlfriend’s cat, Princess Donut, as they try to survive the end of the world—or just get to the next level—in a video game-like, trap-filled fantasy dungeon. A dungeon that’s actually the set of a reality television show with countless viewers across the galaxy. Exploding goblins. Magical potions. Deadly, drug-dealing llamas. This ain’t your ordinary game show.Welcome, Crawler. Welcome to the Dungeon. Survival is optional. Keeping the viewers entertained is not. “I’m excited to share this crazy story with a much wider audience,” Dinniman said in a statement to Deadline. “I think it’s found a great home at Fuzzy Door and Universal International Studios.”  “Matt captures genre bending at its best with his laugh-out-loud and emotionally gut-wrenching characters,” said Fuzzy Door President Erica Huggins in the same statement. “That, coupled with the semi-grounded but unique sci-fi world Dungeon Crawler Carl takes place in, makes for an ideal Fuzzy Door project.” Dinniman first self-published Dungeon Crawler Carl as an e-book and audiobook, which has since sold over a million copies. He has published five more books in the series, and a hardcover version of the first one is coming out on August 27, 2024. No news yet on when the adaptation will go into production, much less make its way to a TV near you. Rand Paul Wants Answers from TSA about Alleged Surveillance Abuses

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky is attempting to get to the bottom of the Transportation Security Administration’s watchlist and blacklist programs following several high-profile cases and whistleblowers scrutinizing these TSA systems. “Recent disclosures from whistleblowers raise serious concerns that these mechanisms may have been improperly employed to target individuals based on their political views and participation in constitutionally protected activities, rather than legitimate security threat,” the Kentucky Republican wrote to TSA Administrator David Pekoske in a Wednesday letter shared with The Daily Signal. Former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is reportedly among the victims of this effort to surveil and control the travel of individuals on the basis of their political beliefs.  In a bombshell report from journalist Matt Taibbi on Aug. 7, Taibbi reports–with whistleblower testimony–that Gabbard had been added to a TSA terror threat list as part of the “Quiet Skies” program. The program seeks to closely monitor potential threats with law enforcement personnel at the airport or in the air. On her recent travels, the former Hawaii congresswoman’s boarding pass was marked with an “SSSS” designation, which means “Secondary Security Screening Selection,” but is colloquially known as “Quad S.” The Quad S designates a traveler as a potential threat to security, and often leads to “random” searches “lasting up to 45 minutes,” according to Taibbi’s report.  “It happened every time I boarded,” Gabbard, an Iraq war veteran, told Taibbi. “I’ve got a couple of blazers in there, and they’re squeezing every inch of the entire collar, every inch of the sleeves, every inch of the edging of the blazers … padding down underwear, bras, workout clothes, every inch of every piece of clothing.” Gabbard, a former Democrat who ran for the party’s presidential nomination in 2020, has been an outspoken critic of the Biden administration. And she’s not the only critic of President Joe Biden caught up in Open Skies surveillance. As Gabbard told Taibbi, one TSA agent told her that he had encountered several supporters of former President Donald Trump who have received Quad S designation as of late.  Since Jan. 6, 2021, the TSA has expanded the Quiet Skies program to surveil individuals who were in the District of Columbia that day. Some with detailed knowledge of Quiet Skies and other programs like it have blown the whistle on this expansion.  David Londo and Sonya LaBosco, the president and executive director of the Air Marshal National Council, respectively, wrote to the House of Representatives in January of 2023 that innocent Americans were coming under Quiet Skies’s crosshairs, according to The Daily Wire. “We have recently become aware that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Federal Air Marshal Service (FAMS) are improperly classifying innocent Americans as ‘Domestic Terrorists’ on internal TSA/FAMS databases and watchlists,” Londo and LaBosco wrote. “Most of these classifications occur in the absence of any investigation or even any follow up.” One case involved an air marshal whose wife was in Washington on January 6, 2021 but never entered the Capitol. The Federal Air Marshal Service started following the woman on her travels, where she was often accompanied by her air marshal husband. On one of these flights, an air marshal tasked to watch the woman told her husband that he was reassigned from a “high-risk international mission” in order to monitor the wife of a fellow air marshal. When the husband investigated his wife’s surveillance, he found she was classified as a “Domestic Terrorist.” Paul referenced the case in his Wednesday letter, writing, “The whistleblower disclosed that TSA inaccurately recorded his wife—who has a documented mobility disability—as having unlawfully entered the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.”  Paul continued: “Despite her physical limitations making it impossible for her to engage in the alleged activities, and with no criminal charges against her. TSA has kept her on a watchlist for more than three years.” Londo and LaBosco’s letter added, “We have been hearing many similar stories from our FAM membership about being assigned to surveil people that TSA/FAMS labeled domestic terrorists, specifically due to being in D.C. on or about January 6th.” The issue of surveilling individuals suspected of being at the Capitol on January 6, 2021 has also come up in court proceedings. “I have also been red flagged at the airport, and I have to go through extra security while other passengers stare at me as if I’m a terrorist,” one Jan. 6 defendant, Kirstyn Niemela, said at her sentencing hearing. “I have had other passengers come up to me–which I have videos of all of this–and tell me that undercover police or air marshals were watching and following me, and they even peeked inside the ladies’ room while I was in there. This is extremely humiliating, totally unnecessary.” Now, Paul is demanding answers, including “unredacted” copies of “all current guidelines, criteria, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and related documents governing the selection of individuals for TSA-managed lists and programs, including the Quiet Skies program” as well as “all documentation and internal communications related to the process for determining whether an individual is designated as a ‘domestic terrorist.’” The Daily Signal asked the TSA if it planned to cooperate with Paul’s request. A TSA spokesperson replied, “TSA will not comment on Congressional correspondence and will reply via official channels.” The post Rand Paul Wants Answers from TSA about Alleged Surveillance Abuses appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Google Faces Court Showdown Over Alleged Secret Chrome Data Harvesting

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. Although a lower court had dismissed the case, the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has decided that Google will have to go to trial after all, for allegedly secretly collecting data from Chrome users, regardless of whether they chose to sync information from the browser with their Google account. The class action lawsuit, Calhoun v. Google LLC., accuses the tech giant of using the browser, by far the most dominant in its market, to collect browsing history, IP addresses, unique browser identifiers, and persistent cookie identifiers – all without consent. The case was initially filed in 2020 and then dismissed in December 2022, but now the appellate court – in a ruling signed by Judge Milan D. Smith Jr. – said that the decision failed to take into account, looking into Google’s disclosures, i.e., the privacy policy agreement, “whether a reasonable user reading them would think that he or she was consenting to the data collection.” The plaintiffs are certain this was in fact happening without explicit permission, and consider the way Chrome was set up to work in this context is “intentional and unlawful.” Google on the other hand defended its actions when the case was originally filed by saying that explicit permission happened when users accepted its privacy policy. The lower court judge, Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, accepted this argument to dismiss the case, saying Google’s disclosure about the data collection was “adequate,” and therefore had the users’ consent. According to Judge Smith, despite its general policy, Google was pushing Chrome “by suggesting that certain information would not be sent to Google unless a user turned on sync.” Interestingly enough, Google is removing the sync option from all versions of Chrome – after iOS, this will now be the case on desktops and Android as well. All it will take is to sign into the Google account on Chrome to link the data from the browser to the account – although signing in is not mandatory, at least for now. A Google spokesman who commented on the decision of the court of appeals – which sent the case back to a lower court – confirmed that the change “is not related to the litigation.” As for the litigation – “We disagree with this ruling and are confident the facts of the case are on our side. Chrome Sync helps people use Chrome seamlessly across their different devices and has clear privacy controls,” claims Jose Castaneda. Big Brother Goes Digital: The Feds’ Race to Integrate Mobile IDs in America

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. The push to develop digital ID and expand its use in the US is receiving a boost as the country’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is launching a new project. NIST’s National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE) has teamed up with 15 large financial and state institutions, as well as tech companies, to research and develop a way of integrating Mobile Driver’s License (mDL) into financial services. But according to NIST, this is just the start and the initial focus of the program. The agreement represents an effort to tie in yet more areas of people’s lives in their digital ID (“customer identification program requirements” is how NIST’s announcement describes the focus of this particular initiative). These schemes are often criticized by rights advocates for their potential to be used as mass surveillance tools. Related: Report: Biden Administration Rushes Digital ID Plans Now NIST’s initiative brings together this institution and the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), California Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) – Science and Technology Directorate, New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Microsoft. Among the other participants are companies specializing in digital ID IDEMIA, MATTR Limited, iLabs, SpruceID, and the OpenID Foundation (plus US Bank, and Block Inc.) They were chosen after submitting a response regarding their capabilities via the Federal Register, and have now received collaborative research and development agreements, known as CRADA. Those who are now in will work within the project’s three phases, dubbed, Define, Assemble, and Build. The first will set the scope of work along with industry participants, the second should produce teams with members from the industry, government, and academia, while the “Build” phase is to focus on “creating practical modules and prototypes to address cybersecurity challenges.” They will now collaborate with NCCoE to speed up the adoption of digital ID standards, a press release said, as well as best practices by developing “reference architectures, representative workflows, and implementation guides to address real-world cybersecurity, privacy, and usability challenges faced by the adoption of mDL in the financial sector.” NIST’s NCCoE itself is set up as a hub dealing with cybersecurity and often works with government, industry, and academia on developing precisely this type of standards. The call to respond to the mobile driver’s license project collaboration was first issued a year ago, in late August 2023. Fox Analyst to Brent Bozell on Damning Report: Soros ‘Hates America,’ ‘Wants to Tear It Down’

Fox News Legal Analyst Gregg Jarrett flayed George Soros’s “calamitous” criminal justice agenda in response to an MRC Special Report exposing how Soros, along with his son Alex, directs and controls 126 soft-on-crime prosecutors across the United States. Jarrett spoke to MRC Founder and President Brent Bozell on the latest installment of The Brent Bozell Show, where Jarrett said, “George Soros is a multi-billionaire who, I think, hates America and wants to tear it down.”  Bozell broke down the key findings of the MRC Special Report for Jarrett, describing how, “George Soros — under the cover of darkness with no coverage given to him by any network — has been buying prosecutors all over the United States of America.”  Jarrett’s remarks followed the Aug. 12 release of an MRC Special Report that demonstrated Soros not only spent at least $40 million to elect radical leftist prosecutors but also poured $77,663,316 into 20 leftist nonprofits that assertively direct and control these prosecutors.  These groups have made staffing choices for these prosecutors while pushing them to attend mandatory meetings, promote their groups on social media and sign radical pledges not to enforce the law.  During the interview, Jarrett discussed Soros’s motivation for picking prosecutors “who have ruined their own communities” with soft-on-crime policies.  “[Soros] believes that if you let people out of jail [and] if you don't prosecute criminals, you are benefiting minorities and disadvantaged people in the inner city and therefore — and this is the key part — it will improve public safety,” Jarrett said, before panning Soros’s vision: “Now you'd have to be a moron to believe that because it's not only counterintuitive, it makes no common sense and empirical and statistical evidence shows that the opposite is true.”  Jarrett also emphasized that all the spending and collusion exposed by the MRC Special Report had a disastrous impact as Soros prosecutors often refuse to prosecute crime or push for tough sentences. “The net result, of course, is in places like Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Boston, Saint Louis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Portland, where all of these Soros-funded progressive prosecutors have been in office,” he said, “It has been calamitous.”  Jarrett added that the Soros prosecutors did not care about “innocent victims of crime” but only about criminals. He said, “And the criminals love it. You know, and the recidivism rate is shocking. Once they're released, they go out and re-commit the same crime. Sometimes even worse.” The Fox News legal analyst lauded the resignations and electoral defeats of some of the Soros prosecutors, saying that “the citizens have revolted amid the skyrocketing crimes of homicide and rape and assault and battery and theft. But a lot of people have fled those very cities because of what George Soros has done.” Bozell responded to Jarrett by pointing out the seriousness of labeling Soros as anti-American. Bozell discussed how this label would have once been an unimaginable slur, but now was simply an apt description for Soros, Vice President Kamala Harris, the Black Lives Matter Movement and even the far left generally. Conservatives are under attack! Contact ABC News (818) 460-7477, CBS News (212) 975-3247 and NBC News (212) 664-6192 and demand they report Soros’ connections to radical district attorneys throughout the country.
