Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) said during an interview over the weekend that the state of California would not lift a finger to help the federal government remove dangerous illegal aliens from the streets of California. Padilla made the remark during a Sunday CBS News interview on “Face The Nation” with Major Garrett when asked about President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming border czar, Tom Homan, who has pledged to criminally prosecute those who do not cooperate with federal immigration officials. “No state government, not Texas, not California, not any state in the nation, has a constitutional authority to impose federal immigration law,” Padilla said. “That is the responsibility of the federal government. Some states like Texas want to push the envelope and try to find a way to assist, but there’s no obligation to do so.” He said that Democrat leaders in California were saying that “we’re not going to utilize state and local resources to do the federal government’s job for them.” “California is the most populous state in the nation, the most diverse state in the nation, home to more immigrants than any state in the nation,” he added. “And the last thing you want to do is have immigrants who are victims of crime afraid to come forward to report that crime. President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to lead to the FCC, Brendan Carr, said during an interview over the weekend that he was focused on ending censorship on social media. Carr made the remarks during a Sunday interview on Fox News while talking about Trump’s transition team. “First of all, I think President Trump and his transition team is really just knocking it out of the park with these picks,” he said. “They’re putting a broad variety of people that represent President Trump’s unique coalition. Washington, D.C., doesn’t like it. And I think that means that he’s doing exactly right.” He said that his first goal is to get in with Trump and make sure he understands fully the agenda that Trump wants him to implement. “Combatting tech censorship is going to be one of the top priorities for me,” he said. “We need to restore Americans’ right to free speech. And you mentioned Facebook and other companies. They have been part of a censorship cartel that have worked with advertisers. President-elect Donald Trump slammed President Joe Biden for pardoning his son Hunter Biden on Sunday despite repeatedly promising the American people that he would not do so. “Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years?” Trump asked on social media. “Such an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!” A spokesperson for the president said in a separate statement that “the failed witch hunts against President Trump have proven that the Democrat-controlled DOJ and other radical prosecutors are guilty of weaponizing the justice system.” “That system of justice must be fixed and due process must be restored for all Americans, which is exactly what President Trump will do as he returns to the White House with an overwhelming mandate from the American people,” the spokesperson added. He was facing the potential for prison time. “No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son – and that is wrong,” President Biden claimed. The elder Biden and the White House had denied on multiple occasions, dating back to last year, that the president had intended to give his son Hunter Biden a pardon. “We’ve been asked that question multiple times and our answer stands — which is no,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in early November. In June, jurors in Delaware convicted Hunter Biden on three felony counts of lying on paperwork for a revolver and owning the firearm while being a drug addict in 2018. A couple of months later, in September, Hunter Biden pleaded guilty to several federal charges related to tax crimes right before a second trial was to begin in Los Angeles.
