Cher Confesses To Getting A ‘Good Director’ Fired

Cher recently addressed the infamous rumor that she is difficult to work with, noting that she has only ever disliked two directors during her acting career. While promoting the first part of her memoir, Cher: The Memoir, on The Sunday Times, she mentioned not getting along with Peter Bogdanovich and Frank Oz.  Although she did not continue working with Frank Oz, Cher and Peter collaborated on 1985’s Mask. Cher got Frank Oz fired from the set of Mermaid and replaced him with Richard Benjamin, who is also known for ‘90s films like Made In America and Milk Money. Benjamin is also an actor, with credits in Columbus, and Catch-22.  Cher got Frank Oz fired with an ultimatum  Cher/ImageCollect Cher was adamant about not working with Frank Oz, noting that she would leave if he stayed. She accused him of making snide remarks to her and sometimes poking at her troubled romantic relationships. Peter, on the other hand, was not nice to the women on set in general and would threaten to kick Cher off the production.  Like Cher, Peter was also candid about his disdain for her, claiming that she did not like men, hence why she dropped her father’s surname Sarkisian. He added that she always looked dejected and it rubbed off on him negatively.  Frank Oz/ImageCollect Cher claims she is easy to work with despite other claims Cher debunked the rumors as false, saying she is quite easy to work with. She confidently directed those concerned to ask about her conduct from past collaborators like directors Bob Altman, Mike Nichols, and Norman Jewison—all of whom she respects.  Cher/Everett She also disclosed some sound advice from A-lister actress Meryl Streep, who believes in agreeing with the director regardless of the instruction but turning around to do what is best. This is not Cher’s first time being labeled difficult, as her estranged sons Chaz and Elijah Blue have accused her of being controlling.
