Why Jesus Cares About Your Sexual Shame –  Encouragement for Today – July 15, 2024

July 15, 2024 Why Jesus Cares About Your Sexual ShameDR. JULI SLATTERY Lee en español "When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, ‘Do you want to get well?'" John 5:6 (NIV)  I walked into a room and thought, Everyone knows. Sexual brokenness often brings a powerful sense of shame. We don't know where to run with our wounds, questions, burdens and guilt. No one talks about it, making us feel even more isolated. Does God see? Does He care? In 2012, God called me to start a ministry called Authentic Intimacy. As a Christian psychologist, I was familiar with questions women ask about sexuality, shame and longings. Yet the Lord opened my heart to see the women around me in a new way. Many of them also carried unasked questions and unspoken shame around sexuality. Married, unmarried, young, old - God's women were suffering. Numerous Christian women are trapped in the bondage of sexual sin and shame. They have seen the beautiful gift of sexuality tainted in some way by lust, assault, legalism, betrayal, or exposure to sexual experiences and images their brains and hearts could not process. This captivity can be so suffocating that we wonder if God truly loves us. Can you and I ever be free? On the outside, you might look put together. No one may guess that you regularly battle temptations or stray outside the will of God for you in this area. If this is you, I want to promise you three things: You are not alone. God sees you. His forgiveness, redemption and freedom are for you!  But, friend, you will never find freedom in secret. Freedom starts when we confess our sins to Jesus and then confide in a trusted companion or professional who can help us move toward healing. Jesus once asked a man who needed healing, "Do you want to get well?" (John 5:6). What a strange question! Why would Jesus ask this? Who wouldn't want to be healed? Redemption happens when God's power intersects with our desperation to experience redemption. Healing begins when we want it more than we want to protect our reputation. The proud religious leaders in the Bible also had brokenness, but their every encounter with Jesus was a pretense of perfection rather than a cry for freedom. Imagine right now that you are encountering Jesus. He looks at you with piercing, compassionate eyes. He knows about your secrets, shame and struggle. He takes your face in His hands, asking, Daughter, do you want to be free? In the Gospel accounts, Jesus often healed in an instant. But He also works over time, and for many of us, healing is a journey that begins with a decision to do whatever the Lord asks of us to find freedom. You have lived long enough with secrets, shame and bondage. Will you start your freedom journey today? Dear God, thank You for Your never-ending love and forgiveness that You have given me through Jesus' death and resurrection. Give me faith to believe that You came to free me from my captivity to sexual sin and shame. Show me how to say "yes" to the freedom You're offering me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.  OUR FAVORITE THINGS To begin your freedom journey, we invite you to read Her Freedom Journey: A Guide Out of Porn and Shame to Authentic Intimacy by Dr. Juli Slattery and Dr. Joy Skarka. ENGAGE You may think you're alone in your struggle to find freedom from sexual sin and shame, but that isn't true. You don't have to go through your freedom journey alone. At Authentic Intimacy, we offer Online Book Studies multiple times per year. Learn more about the next season of groups here. FOR DEEPER STUDY John 10:10, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full" (NIV). How has the thief used sexual shame to steal, kill or destroy in your life? What is keeping you from the abundant life Jesus came to give you? NBC News’ Kristen Welker Paints Bernie Sanders As Victim Of 2017 Baseball Shooting By One Of His Supporters

NBC News host Kristen Welker painted democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) over the weekend as a victim of a 2017 assassination attempt at a Republican congressional baseball practice in Virginia that was carried out by one of Sanders’ supporters. The remarks from Welker come after a 20-year-old who had donated to far-left causes shot former President Donald Trump at a political rally in Pennsylvania during an assassination attempt on Saturday in Pennsylvania. “You obviously have been impacted by political violence yourself,” Welker said to Sanders during the interview. “In 2017, that horrible moment when Republican Congressman Steve Scalise was shot at baseball practice, you came out and forcefully denounced what had happened upon learning that the suspected shooter had been a volunteer for your campaign.” “How does that experience inform how you think the country can move forward right now?” she asked. Sanders responded: “Yeah, I am familiar with political violence in all its forms. The bottom line is what we need as a nation, what a democracy is about, is not radical rhetoric. What it is about is a serious discussion of where we are as a nation and how we go forward. You know, in a certain way, Kristen, politics should be kind of boring, you know? Our healthcare system is dysfunctional. How do we fix it? Well, it’s kind of a boring discussion, but we need a healthcare system that guarantees healthcare to all people. We have massive income and wealth inequality. Well, maybe a boring discussion. Should three people own more wealth than the bottom half of American society? So I think what we have got to see is serious discussion of serious issues and not this kind of harsh rhetoric that we have heard for the last number of years.” Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) noted after the shooting that the gunman yelled, “This is for healthcare” as he tried to murder Republican lawmakers. Welker received criticism for her framing of what happened online from various political commentators. Podcast host Stephen L. Miller posted: “Kristin Welker says Bernie Sanders is a victim because it was one of his supporters who shot up the softball field.” Media Research Center Vice President Brent Baker said Welker’s framing was “strange.” WATCH: I’m sure bullets “impacted” Scalise more. Strange framing from @kwelkernbc. To @SenSanders: “You, obviously, have been impacted by political violence yourself. In 2017 that horrible moment when Republican Congressman Steve Scalise was shot” by one of your supporters. #MTP pic.twitter.com/i2Cnah7XCx — Brent Baker ?? ?? (@BrentHBaker) July 14, 2024

Lindsey Graham On Who Should Be Blamed For Trump Assassination Attempt: ‘Blame The Shooter’

Lindsey Graham On Who Should Be Blamed For Trump Assassination Attempt: ‘Blame The Shooter’

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said on Sunday that the person who should be blamed for the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump is 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, the individual who shot the presumptive Republican nominee at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Graham made the remarks during an interview on NBC News’ “Meet The Press” with host Kristen Welker while talking about the tragic shooting in which at least one Trump supporter was killed and two more were critically injured. “I’ve been worried about this for a very, very long time,” Graham said. “You know, if he wins, democracy is not going to end. He’s not a fascist. He represents a point of view that millions share. The rhetoric is way too hot. But I was just grateful that he made it. I mean, fate stepped in, God, the hand of God, call it whatever you’d like. But let’s don’t forget, there is a man who lost his life by attending a political rally. He’s dead. His life came to end.” “Other people are hurt. Who to blame? Let’s blame the shooter,” he added. “But let’s all try to do better. I can tell you one thing about President Trump: he is very determined to get this country back on track. And his initial reaction, after being shot, will be an iconic moment in American history. Literally bleeding from a gunshot wound, he raised his fist. Don’t give up. Keep going.” Graham added that Trump needs to pick someone for vice president who “is ready on day one, that can help him win, that can grow the map.” WATCH: WATCH: “I wish I could say I was surprised, but I’ve been worried about this for a very, very long time,” Sen. @LindseyGrahamSC (R) told #MTP after the shooting at fmr. President Trump’s rally. “The rhetoric is way too hot, but I was just grateful that he made it.” pic.twitter.com/Go6FvJ7pks — Meet the Press (@MeetThePress) July 14, 2024
