Columbia’s Private Text Scandal Reveals Endemic Anti-Semitism

Columbia’s Private Text Scandal Reveals Endemic Anti-Semitism

The unhinged antics of academia have long baffled ordinary Americans. Institutions once prized for their services to knowledge are now staffed by people who routinely deny that such a thing objectively exists, and who focus more on their partisan priorities. Despite its reputation, Columbia University is no exception. Before recently being evicted after clashes with police, students at the school’s fractious anti-Israel encampment proudly proclaimed their support for terrorism while calling on the college to sever ties to Israel and Israelis. Now, we have more evidence that some of the college’s top administrators are not merely willing to indulge such radicalism but hold their own egregious views. Last week the Washington Free Beacon exposed how deans at the Ivy League school mocked Jewish students in private texts, referring to them as “privileged” despite their concerns over growing anti-Semitism. Perhaps the most surprising part of this scandal is that the offensive remarks were made in private, given how normalized such sentiment has become in academic circles. The Jewish students denigrated by their deans are the same ones who recently had to pass protestors, mobilized by groups that openly celebrated the slaughter of civilians by Hamas, screeching at them to “go back to Poland.” Even prior to macabre celebrations of the October 7th attacks, anti-Jewish incidents were soaring in the U.S., with assaults on Jews rising by over 25% in 2022. Columbia University deans mocking Jewish students’ legitimate concerns about anti-Semitism as “privilege” — not to mention the vomit emojis they directed at those who express those concerns, proves that despite promoting progressive values, Columbia’s rampant critical race theory has apparently done nothing to alleviate a toxic atmosphere for Jewish students, and arguably exacerbated it. In the corridors of academia, “progressive” staff are only too happy to trivialize the genuine fears and experiences of Jewish students in a way they would not be if students of any other minority group expressed similar fears. How can students feel safe on campus in these circumstances — or trust administrators to be honest referees for their concerns after these private texts? Incredibly, despite a slew of headlines claiming that the Columbia staff in question have been “removed,” the college will simply shuffle three of them into new roles. The most senior among them, Dean Josef Sorett, is walking scot-free having released a mealy-mouthed statement in which he vows to “rebuild trust.”  But how can trust be rebuilt when, to echo the words of the Free Beacon, Columbia’s response is akin to “Moving the Priests Around” a rightly decried practice of shuffling abusive priests from parish to parish instead of forcing them to face justice for horrendous crimes? While many Catholic authorities have reckoned with previous abuse scandals and improved safeguarding practices, most colleges are incapable of even admitting a scandal is unfolding.  The question now is whether ambitious American students, Jewish or otherwise, decide to give up on the colleges of yesteryear and gravitate towards less “prestigious” schools that remain dedicated to learning rather than appeasing extremists. While comprehensive measures such as training on anti-Semitism could be helpful in theory, it is difficult to believe that, in practice, administrators like those at Columbia will change for the better from such training. Their mocking text messages, after all, occurred during a discussion of anti-Semitism. After this text message scandal, can we really trust colleges to execute these training programs? Will students, already raised to hate, be open to changing their minds? Are current teachers actually qualified or willing to explain the complex history of anti-Jewish hatred, rather than reduce it to yet another function of the irredeemable white supremacist evils of Western civilization? The reality suggested by this affair is that entire college departments and administrations are rotten to the core. Root and branch reform is needed, in Columbia and beyond. Universities must crack down on anti-Semitism, not just from the Right but also from the Left — and from their own students — before they can hope to root out anti-Semitism. From Nazi Germany to the USSR to post-Islamic Revolution Iran, societies that encourage or turn a blind eye to Jew-hatred have been doomed to achieve neither longevity nor learning. In order to train the next generation of people in elite professions who have America’s best interest at heart, Columbia and other colleges must extinguish the anti-Semitism festering in their ranks. The US will not maintain its global strength if its educated elite continues its descent into a toxic combination of hatred and ignorance. * * * Georgia L. “I May Never Recover From This Score At Goodwill”

It’s pretty extraordinary to find a first edition copy of your favorite book signed by the author, but it’s even more unexpected to find this priceless item at Goodwill. Imagine Jamie Clark’s surprise when she opened The Notebook at one of these stores to find Nicholas Sparks’s autograph inside! Well, actually, you don’t have to imagine. She shared her incredible find with her followers on social media! Jamie was in tears as she filmed herself opening up the rare copy of her favorite book, which was priced at only two dollars. She quickly bought it and took it home, where she revealed a hilarious coincidence. While Jamie had managed to snag this signed book at Goodwill, her husband had spent hundreds of dollars to buy her the same edition for their anniversary two years prior! @jamiekennyclark I may never recover from this score at Goodwill. #booklover #goodwillfinds #fyp #booktok ♬ original sound – Jamie Clark Just to be sure, the woman compared the signatures in the two novels. Sure enough, the book she purchased at Goodwill was signed exactly the same way as the one her husband had bought her. Although she was clearly very emotional about her purchase, she knew that some people wouldn’t understand why she’d want two copies of the same book. “So most people are going to think that I’m crazy,” Jamie said in her video. Screengrab from TikTok However, she explained that The Notebook wasn’t just any novel to her. It was one of her favorite books of all time. Since she’s a writer herself, she also appreciates the story from a creative standpoint. All in all, randomly finding another signed edition of this book at Goodwill was a very joyful experience for her. “I may never recover from this score at Goodwill,” she wrote in the caption of her video. What an incredible find! We’re so glad that this book found someone who would truly treasure it. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. HHS Urged Crackdown on ‘So-Called’ Whistleblowers Exposing Gender Medicine, Video Reveals

An office of the Department of Health and Human Services that enforces medical privacy laws expressed concern last summer that “so-called” whistleblowers had exposed “gender-affirming care,” shortly after a surgeon disclosed that Texas Children’s Hospital was secretly transitioning children.  Official video of an HHS committee meeting in July 2023 sheds light on the Biden administration’s agenda just days before federal agents informed Texas surgeon Eithan Haim that he was under investigation. Haim now faces charges of leaking records on sex-change procedures to the news media.  The video shows Melanie Fontes-Rainer, director of the HHS Office for Civil Rights, encouraging a crackdown on whistleblowers whose leaks were “in the news” during the public meeting July 20, 2023, of the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics, an advisory group to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra.  WATCH: “We are seeing instances in some of these states where gender-affirming care is being banned where … somebody that works in a facility is taking it upon themselves to disclose information, whether it’s to a state attorney general or a news publication, using this, sort of, so-called whistleblower hat under state law,” Rainer tells the HHS advisory committee, the video shows.  Rainer goes on to say that these situations make it “really important on the front end to have all the security and privacy controls, who has access to the data, why do they have access to the data … that’s what we can regulate.”  Rainer adds that “reeducating [health care] providers is really important right now” because “these are … things that people did not anticipate having to talk about with staff or trying to face, and I think we’re seeing it more and more.” Rainer’s HHS Office for Civil Rights is tasked with enforcing the privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA, which protects private medical information. Her office processes all HIPAA complaints and may choose to refer them to the Justice Department.  The Justice Department charged Haim in May under HIPAA, alleging that the surgeon released protected information on child patients when he gave journalist Chris Rufo records of children with appointments for cross-sex hormones and transgender surgery at Texas Children’s Hospital. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted, although the DOJ said it seeks only a monetary judgment.  Haim denies any wrongdoing. The surgeon maintains that it was his “moral responsibility to expose what was happening to these children,” as he wrote in a January op-ed.  Rufo has stated publicly that Haim “redacted all personal information” about patients when sending him the records. Rainer’s remarks about “so-called” whistleblowers came three days before the Justice Department issued a target letter to Haim and agents with the HHS inspector general’s office visited the surgeon’s home and tried to question him about the leaks.  The media office at the Department of Health and Human Services did not respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment before publication. NASA Lander's Seismic Data Reveals How Many Meteorites Impact Mars Per Year

A team of researchers looking at seismic data from NASA's InSight lander has found that around 280 to 360 objects that cause craters over 8 meters (26 feet) in diameter impact Mars every year.Exoplanet scientists use meteoroid impact data from Mars and other planets to estimate the age of other bodies in the Solar System, the reasoning being that older bodies will have more impact craters than younger ones. Of course, you have to take into account factors such as the size of the object, its orbit, and the effect its atmosphere (should it be lucky enough to have a sizeable one) has on bodies entering it. But generally speaking, the more impacts you see, the older the moon or planet be.      "The current Martian cratering rate of craters <60 m [197 feet] has been estimated from repeated satellite imaging, but such observations are limited by camera resolution and dust coverage," the team explains in their paper. "This requires the target area to be dust-covered to some extent. Extrapolation of the crater density in dusty areas to the full planet requires a global model of dust mobility, for which the thermal inertia is a proxy."Because satellite images are not high resolution enough, the rate of impacts of meteoroid impacts of smaller objects is more uncertain. The team attempted to refine estimates by looking at seismic data collected by an instrument deployed during NASA's InSight mission. While operational on the planet, the seismometer recorded a number of very high frequency (VF) marsquakes. Though the team could not rule out alternative causes for each recorded VF event, they determined that the events as a whole were likely the result of meteoroid impacts in the local area. Determining the size of the impact by looking at its seismic data, and then scaling the impacts in terms of area and time, they estimated that 280 to 360 craters over 8 meters (26 feet) in diameter are formed on the planet every year."This rate was about five times higher than the number estimated from orbital imagery alone," Géraldine Zenhäusern, Professor of Seismology and Geodynamics at ETH Zürich and co-author on the paper, said in a statement. "Aligned with orbital imagery, our findings demonstrate that seismology is an excellent tool for measuring impact rates."Using this method could help us better estimate a solar system body's age. Send a probe with a seismometer to the planet or moon, allow it to collect data on impacts, and then you could use this data and satellite data to get a better idea of its age. Of course, a lot more can be learned by deploying seismometers on the surface of alien worlds.“To understand the inner structure of planets, we use seismology. This is because as seismic waves travel through or reflect off material in planets’ crust, mantle, and core, they change. By studying these changes, seismologists can determine what these layers are made of and how deep they are," co-first author Dr Natalia Wojcicka, Research Associate at Imperial College London’s Department of Earth Science and Engineering explained in a second statement. “On Earth, you can more easily understand the inner structure of our planet by looking at data from seismometers placed all around the globe. However, on Mars there has been only one – SEIS. To better understand Mars’ inner structure, we need more seismometers distributed across the planet.”The study is published in the journal Nature Astronomy.

Human Plague Case In Colorado Confirmed By Officials

Human Plague Case In Colorado Confirmed By Officials

After a suspicious set of test results triggered an investigation last week, public health officials in Pueblo County, Colorado, have now confirmed a case of plague in a local resident.Plague is a bacterial infection that’s best known for decimating Europe’s population in the mid-14th century, with what came to be known as “The Black Death” becoming one of the deadliest pandemics in human history. But as this latest case will tell you, plague hasn’t been consigned to the history books. Yersinia pestis, the bacteria that causes the disease, naturally circulates in many parts of the world in rodents, other small animals, and fleas. That means that, on rare occasions, plague can end up in humans too. An average of seven cases are reported in the US each year, with most of them being the bubonic form – the one with the characteristic swollen, pus-filled lymph nodes. Most cases are found in a region encompassing northern New Mexico, northern Arizona, and southern Colorado, and another with California, southern Oregon, and western Nevada. While the source of the Colorado case is still being investigated, human cases of plague are typically the result of being bitten by an infected flea or handling an infected animal. For example, earlier this year, the first case of human plague in Oregon in eight years was found to likely be the result of an infected pet cat. With that in mind, Pueblo County’s Department of Public Health and Environment (PDPHE) has asked the public to take a number of precautions, including:Avoiding contact with dead animalsRat-proofing your home by removing places they can hide, breed, and feed, like piles of lumber and pet food containersUsing insect repellent to prevent flea bitesFlea-treating petsNot letting pets sleep in bed with youIf people do develop symptoms, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends seeking medical attention immediately due to the seriousness of the disease. The main symptoms to look out for with bubonic plague are a sudden fever, chills, headache, weakness, and swollen, painful lymph nodes. These symptoms can provide healthcare professionals with an indication that plague is present, and the diagnosis can be confirmed by lab tests that use samples taken from the swollen lymph nodes or blood.Though a serious illness, plague is thankfully treatable.“Plague can be treated successfully with antibiotics, but an infected person must be treated promptly to avoid serious complications or death,” said Alicia Solis, program manager of the Office of Communicable Disease and Emergency Preparedness at PDPHE, in a statement.

Biden’s new standard: Law for enemies, immunity for friends

Biden’s new standard: Law for enemies, immunity for friends

Joe Biden ripped into the Supreme Court following its ruling last week over Donald Trump’s presidential immunity. “Each, each of us is equal before the law,” he said in a brief nationally televised address. “No one, no one is above the law, not even the president of the United States. [With] today’s Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity, that fundamentally changed for all practical purposes.”Really, Mr. President? Do you, of all people, have the audacity to claim that “no one is above the law, not even the president of the United States?” You should know about some people who are actually being targeted by your administration. You have people crying that their political opponents are corrupt while they’re putting people in prison for the things they have done themselves.Paul Vaughn, a Christian pro-life father of 11 children, was facing over a decade in prison for a peaceful protest in Tennessee at an abortion clinic. He was charged with violating the Face Act for praying in the hallway. Upon his imminent sentencing, he said, “It's real easy for me. I can go and go to battle and go to jail as an individual, and it's not a big loss.” Would you have the courage to say that in such a moment? I pray I would. “The challenge comes when you’re leading your family through it, when you’re talking to your 3-year-old and your 23-year-old and your other family,” Vaughn continued. He said he wanted to pray to God every day to be ready to “take on that day with whatever circumstances come my way and a humility and a grace and a spirit-led life that represents him in our society and our community around us.”How many politicians order their life in such a way after truth and justice, versus power and greed?Vaughn ended up avoiding prison time. Instead, the judge ordered him to six months of home confinement and three years of supervised release — for praying in a hallway. What would Biden have to say about him? Do you think the state is being weaponized against Paul Vaughn?Last week, Steve Bannon reported to prison for contempt of Congress. There are now 15 people in the Biden administration who have been deemed in contempt of Congress. None of them are being prosecuted. But Donald Trump’s people are. I don't agree with Bannon on everything. He's a thought leader who I strongly disagree with at many times, but he should not be going to jail.“I am proud to go to prison,” Bannon told reporters. “If this is what it takes to stand up to tyranny; if this is what it takes to stand up to the [Attorney General Merrick] Garland corrupt criminal DOJ; if this is what it takes to stand up to Nancy Pelosi; if this is what it takes to stand up to Joe Biden — I’m proud to do it.”You have people crying that their political opponents are corrupt while they’re putting people in prison for the things they have done themselves. How about Dr. Eithan Haim? He was the anonymous whistleblower behind Christopher Rufo’s groundbreaking story that exposed Texas Children's Hospital's continuation of transgender treatments on minors even after it said it stopped. Even though he was anonymous, the Justice Department found out who he was and sent armed agents from the Department of Health and Human Services to his house. Now, he and his expecting wife are being charged with felonies. What does Biden say about him? Please, Mr. President, don’t talk to me about “out-of-control tyranny” from the Supreme Court. The court has done exactly the opposite. It has protected the presidency while it is dismantling the administrative state. But you’re right in saying that “no one is above the law, not even the president of the United States.” I challenge you to hold yourself to that standard.Want more from Glenn Beck?
