Koe Wetzel Releases Live Concert Video Of Rockin’ Cover Of Sum 41’s “In Too Deep”
Taking it back to 2001.
Koe Wetzel recently wrapped up his extensive headlining Damn Near Normal World Tour, and he's had quite a year... from scoring the highest-charting debut of his career when "High Road" with Jessie Murph debuted at #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in June, to selling thousands of tickets both stateside and overseas.
He also released a new album 9 Lives in July, and has really taken off in terms of dipping his foot in the more mainstream part of country music, with his first-ever single at country radio.
It's been really cool to watch his journey as someone who has been a fan for years, when he was still predominately known in the Texas scene and playing small honky tonks and dive bars. I can't say I'm surprised, though, to see him reaching out to new fans with a bit of a different sound with his new record, which he talked about in terms of how it reflects his life, getting older, and slowing down some (just a little bit).
It's how yo continue to grow a fanbase, but fear not, because his concerts are still the same rowdy, loud good time that he's built a loyal following with (I saw him in Columbia, South Carolina earlier this year and it was as awesome as ever)... and during some of the shows this year, Koe has actually been playing a cover that I can't get enough of.
He talks pretty often about how the rock music of the 90's and even early 2000's inspired his early love for music and even the music he makes out now, which I think is extremely apparent on every record and part of what I love about his catalog.
So of course, I love his rendition of Sum 41’s “In Too Deep,” which he released live concert footage of from several concerts during his 2024 tour run. The song was originally included on the band’s 2001 debut studio album All Killer No Filler, and served as the second official radio single too.
"In Too Deep" was written by frontman Deryck Whibley and producer Greig Nori, and was inspired by some of Whibley’s high school relationships that, while maybe a bit over simplified, still obviously had universal appeal and something almost anyone could relate to.
The song became a hit in many countries, and peaked at #10 on the Billboard U.S. Alternative Airplay chart. It has since been certifiedGold in Italy and Platinum in the United Kingdom.
We’ve heard Koe do songs like Lit’s “My Own Worst Enemy” and Blink-182’s “All The Small Things” (still one of my favorites that I’d love for him to keep on the set list permanently), and if you get nostalgic hearing songs from the late 90’s and early 2000’s as much as I do, you’ll definitely wanna check this one out.

Koe has just two shows remaining on his 2024 calendar, which will take place in his home state of Texas as a special Christmas edition featuring Morgan Wade and Stephen Wilson, Jr.
