The Ancient Hangover Cure Found in a 1,000-Year-Old Cookbook

Written nearly a thousand years ago, the Kitab al-tabikh (book of cookery) written by Ibn Sayyar al-Warraq, is the most comprehensive work of its kind. It includes more than 600 recipes for culinary and medicinal dishes, including a well-known ancient Middle Eastern hangover cure, ingredients for enhancing sexual performance, and dishes for curing a range of health problems. The ancient text has been translated by Nawal Nasrallah, a former professor of English and comparative literature at the University of Baghdad, into the ‘Annals of the Caliph’s Kitchen’, making these fascinating recipes accessible to the English-speaking world. Could Ancient Textbooks Be The Source Of The Next Medical Breakthrough? Ancient Egyptian Texts Contain Hangover Cure And Radical Eye Disease Treatments The Enigma of Ibn Sayyar al-Warraq: A Glimpse into the Author's Life Very little is known about Ibn Sayyar al-Warraq, the author of the text, except that he died in 961 AD, and that he was commissioned to write a cookbook on the dishes of Caliphs, Lords and dignitaries of the time. Some scholars suggest that Al-Warraq might have compiled the manuscript at the request of his patron, the Hamdanid prince Sayf al-Dawla. Many of the recipes are thought to have been acquired from much earlier writers and may be much older than 1,000 years. Read moreSection: ArtifactsAncient WritingsNewsHistory & ArchaeologyRead Later

Air Fryer Home Fries

Air Fryer Home Fries are ready in only 25 minutes and are perfectly cooked and seasoned bites of potato with just the right amount of crispiness! A FAST BREAKFAST POTATOES RECIPE Air Fryer Home Fries really are a game changer for breakfast, brunch, or even as a quick side dish. Made with just a few simple ingredients that you already have on hand and ready in a fraction of the time compared to traditional frying, these home fries have all the flavor and crunch you crave—without a lot of fuss (or mess!) I can’t get over how easy they are to make, how crispy they get, and I don’t know why I didn’t try to make them sooner. It’s the perfect home fry recipe for two, but it simple enough to double if you need to feed more. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:  Can I make these using other potatoes? Yes, I enjoy these with russets, but others can be used. Try Yukon Gold or red potatoes for a different texture. You can even substitute russet potatoes with sweet potatoes. Just adjust the cooking time as they may cook slightly faster.   What should I serve with my Air Fryer Home Fries?  I love these with breakfast or brunch dishes. Things like Chicken and Waffles, or even steak and eggs are perfect combinations. But they’re also great with burgers, grilled chicken, or sandwiches for lunch or dinner. Options are endless. These crispy potatoes are so versatile and can go with just about anything. Do I need to peel the potatoes first before frying?   Nope, peeling is optional. Leaving the skin on adds texture and extra nutrients. It’s a personal preference though so do what you like.  Can I double this recipe? Of course. This recipe is super easy to double, just increase the quantity of ingredients. Then when cooking in the Air Fryer, shake the basket a few times while it’s cooking so everything cooks evenly. The key is to not overstuff the air fryer basket. You need air to circulate around the food to cook it evenly but also to help with the crispiness. What else can I add to these fries? You can make them more like Southern Home Fries by adding in some fried onions and peppers if desired. Can I try other seasoning combinations? Absolutely! Try adding smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, or even rosemary for more flavor.  How to store leftover Air Fryer Roasted Potatoes? Leftover Air Fryer Home Fries should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Freezing leftover cooked potatoes is also possible.Place the cooked fries in a single layer on a baking sheet to freeze. Once frozen, transfer to a  freezer bag and store for up to 3 months. Reheat from frozen in the air fryer for 8-10 minutes at 375°F.   What’s the best way to reheat Air Fryer Home Fries? Reheat in the Air Fryer at 350°F for 5 minutes until crispy again, if reheating from the fridge. If reheating from frozen, refer to the previous question.   INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE) russet potatoes– cut into 1/2 inch cubes. If you’re looking for other potato choices, check out the Frequently Asked Questions section above for more options. olive oil – you need this to help coat the potato cubes with the seasonings paprika , salt, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, salt and pepper  – you can use any of your favorite seasonings with this recipe. Simple salt and pepper works just fine too. Creole or cajun seasoning work as well. nonstick cooking spray– typically, I like to suggest using olive oil or avocado oil nonstick cooking spray since it doesn’t seem to gunk up the Air Fryer as bad as some of the other spray options. I’ve also heard that Pam actually makes a cooking spray just for Air Fryers, but haven’t gotten to try it out yet. If you have a chance to try it, let me know your thoughts on it in the comments. HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER HOME FRIES  Preheat air fryer to 400°F.   In a large bowl, toss the cubed potatoes with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme,  salt, and pepper until evenly coated.   Lightly spray the air fryer basket of a 5-6 quart air fryer with nonstick cooking spray.   Add the seasoned potato cubes to the air fryer basket in a single layer. Don’t overcrowd; cook in batches if necessary.   Cook for 15 minutes, shaking the basket or stirring the potatoes every 5 minutes to ensure even cooking.   Remove from the air fryer when golden brown and crispy, and serve immediately.   CRAVING MORE RECIPES?  Southern Home Fries Air Fryer Potatoes and Sausage Air Fryer Garlic Butter Steak Bites Air Fryer Meatloaf Air Fryer Ribs Air Fryer Pork Chop Bites Air Fryer Lemon Herb Potatoes Air Fryer Chicken Bites Air Fryer Pork Chops Air Fryer Chicken Tenders Print Air Fryer Home Fries Seasoned, golden brown cubes of perfectly air fried potatoes. Kristin Minter is most popular for playing Heather in the ‘90s holiday classic Home Alone, after which she had a successful run as Miranda ‘Randi’ Fronczak in ER. She shocked fans weeks ago with her catwalk debut at the New York Fashion Week, where she strutted for designer Dennis Basso. Kristin took to Instagram to show off her runway-worthy looks at 58 while thanking designer Basso for the opportunity. “Walking NYFW after 40 years, but I didn’t fall! Small victories!” her caption read. Kristin’s followers commented kindly on her beauty as they cheered her on. Where is Kristin Minter now? Kristin Minter/Everett Kristin’s Fashion Week catwalk comes after she announced that Elite Model Management signed her. She had a memorable runway debut as she strutted in cream trousers and a beige and white jumper, which she matched with drop earrings and smokey eye makeup. Kristin is proof that age is just a number, as her modeling career begins in her late fifties. Fans were inspired by this as they gushed in her Instagram comments section. “So proud of you. You look FABULOUS,” someone exclaimed. “Congratulations Kristin, you definitely deserve it!” another added. Kristin Minter/Everett Kristin Minter reveals a shocking fun fact Kristin admitted in a past interview that she avoids watching her films because she hates her voice, and seeing herself on screen makes her nauseous.
