Disney Forced To Recall Beloved Animated Classic ‘The Rescuers’

Disney has been forced to recall one of their 1970s classics, as it contained a clip featuring a topless woman in a window, which is inappropriate for kids. Following its initial release, The Rescuers became a hit, and it was not until the VHS version got out in the late ‘90s that Disney realized the offensive scene. Disney changed the clip, directing those who purchased the tape to return it to their video distribution wing at Buena Vista Home Entertainment in Carson, California. By then, The Rescuers already had a decade-old sequel, The Rescuers Down Under. Disney recalls ‘The Rescuers’ to maintain customer relationship THE RESCUERS, 1977/Everett Disney apologized to affected families, noting that they intend to keep their brand’s promise as a trustworthy entertainment company. Despite this, there have been other instances where explicit scenes made it to Disney animations; however, they only made adjustments to The Rescuers. Interestingly, some fans did not notice the scene with the topless woman because she was in the background with characters Bernard and Miss Bianca driving by. Despite the recall, cut-out clips of the moment are on YouTube, and some internet users thought it could have been overlooked. “You really would never see this unless you paused it. The animator did NOT anticipate home video release or the internet,” someone argued. Other Disney animations with controversial scenes THE RESCUERS, Bernard, Miss Bianca, 1977/Everett Other Disney animations that may require recalls include The Lion King, which features the infamous scene where Simba is on the edge of a cliff with a cloud of dust behind him. Parents thought the word “SEX” formed in the background; however, it is actually “SFX.” A scene from The Little Mermaid has also raised eyebrows, as it showed castles under the sea that looked like the male sexual organ. This image even made it to posters and promotional material, causing an uproar from guardians.
