Customs and Border Protection said on Wednesday that it had recorded more than 179,000 encounters at the southern border in April as thousands of illegal immigrants continue to be released into the country.  According to the CBP numbers, Border Patrol recorded more than 128,900 encounters with foreign nationals between ports of entry along the southern border in April. At the same time, it had 41,100 encounters with individuals who used the app created by the Biden administration to be processed at a port of entry into the United States. The encounters were down from last month’s 189,357 and April 2023’s 211,992.  “We are still experiencing challenges along the borders and the nation’s immigration system is not appropriately resourced to handle them, so we continue to call on Congress to take action that would provide our personnel with additional resources and tools,” said acting CBP Commissioner Troy Miller.  CBP also said that cocaine seizures at the border had increased 95% since March and that the agency has confiscated 11,400 pounds of fentanyl so far in fiscal year 2024.  While Miller highlighted the dip in encounters, House Homeland Security Committee Chair Mark Green (R-TN) said that the number was still too high.  “These numbers make one thing clear — we are still in a crisis of the Biden administration’s making,” Green said in a statement. “Going from ‘absolutely catastrophic’ in December to just ‘catastrophic’ in April may be acceptable for Secretary Mayorkas and President Biden, but no one else.” Green also criticized parole programs adopted by the Biden administration that allow inadmissible aliens to enter the United States.  CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “The fundamentals of this unprecedented homeland security crisis are all the same: illegal aliens know they will likely be released if they cross between ports of entry, and record numbers continue flocking to our ports of entry to take advantage of the Biden administration’s unlawful mass-parole programs,” Green added.  The numbers also come as Fox News obtained the number of known illegal immigrant “gotaways” who made it into the United States. According to the numbers, gotaways have exploded under President Joe Biden with more than 600,000 in fiscal years 2022 and 2023. From fiscal year 2010 to 2020, there were about 1.4 million known gotaways, while there were 1.6 million recorded from fiscal year 2021 to 2024.

CNN analyst Elie Honig revealed the approach he would have used to discredit the testimony of former President Donald Trump’s ex-attorney Michael Cohen, saying that Trump’s attorney had missed an opportunity. Honig spoke with anchor Jake Tapper about the former president’s ongoing Manhattan hush-money trial, explaining that the best way to convince the jury that Cohen was unreliable was to point out the number of times in the past that he had been caught shading the truth. Tapper began the conversation by noting that Trump attorney Todd Blanche had chosen an interesting line of attack, opening his cross-examination by reading off a series of insulting things Cohen had said or posted on social media about both Trump and Blanche. “Do you have an idea why Blanche would start with that?” Tapper asked. “Because, I mean, it does kind of make it seem as though Michael Cohen is kind of just like a shoot-from-the-hip jerk and not necessarily focused entirely on Trump as a motive.” “Well, I think it was a mistake to open the way that Todd Blanche opened. I absolutely never would have done it,” Honig replied. “It was properly sustained. First of all, it’s not the point. It’s not the point, does Michael Cohen hate Todd Blanche?” “The point is, Michael Cohen hates and desperately wants the defendant, Donald Trump, in prison,” Honig continued. “Let me give you what I would have started with. We like to play like armchair prosecutor now that we’re no longer actual prosecutors. First question would have been, ‘Mr. Cohen, are you a perjurer?’ Okay? If he says ‘Yes,’ great! Folks, he’s a perjurer. He says ‘No,’ then you just hit him with the dozens of lies that he’s … He is a perjurer. I mean, that’s a fact. Personal finance expert Dave Ramsey is rescuing a pro-Israel conference from cancellation after a Nashville hotel backed out from hosting because of alleged threats by anti-Israel activists. When Ramsey heard that a Nashville hotel revoked access for the Israel Summit, an event scheduled for next week that will feature prominent Christians and Jews, organizers say Ramsey got in touch and offered not only to host it, but also to help make it even bigger.  “Dave Ramsey reached out and said, ‘You’re going to have it at my place and we’re going to take this event to a whole new level and make it 10x what it was before,’” Joshua Waller, a host of the Israel Guys podcast who is co-hosting the event, told The Daily Wire. “All of the details have come together and the event is skyrocketing in numbers.” The Israel Summit describes itself as the first gathering of pro-Israel supporters who “unconditionally support Israel’s right to be sovereign in the entirety of the land of Israel, including Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and the Gaza Strip.” Along with The Israel Guys, the event is sponsored by HaYovel, an organization started by Waller more than 20 years ago which brings Christians to volunteer at farms in Judea and Samaria, and the Christan-Jewish bridge building nonprofits, Israel365 and Keep God’s land. The hotel told Fox News that it consulted with local law enforcement and that the decision to pull out was because the event “presented a considerable risk to the safety of our team, our guests and those attending the event given heightened security concerns.” According to FOX 17 News, the Metro Nashville Police said they “did not advocate, in any shape or form, for the cancellation of the conference at the Sonesta Hotel.”

In a sign of life for the corruption-focused impeachment inquiry, a top House Republican investigator said on Thursday that he issued a new subpoena that seeks bank records tied to members of President Joe Biden‘s family. House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY), who is leading the probe, announced the development in an interview on Fox Business but declined to share the target of the subpoena. “This morning, I issued a subpoena, for targeted financial information from a certain financial institution related to Jim Biden, Sarah Biden and Hunter Biden,” Comer said. “This is a result of, many of the documents that Devin Archer turned over,” Comer continued, referring to a Biden family business partner who told congressional investigators how the Biden “brand” helped the president’s family do business abroad. Jim Biden, who also goes by James Biden, is the younger brother of the president. He recently came up in a POLITICO report that alleged he was doing business with Qatari officials. Sarah Biden is the wife of Jim Biden, and Hunter Biden is the adult son of President Biden. He is facing two criminal trials over gun and tax charges and is also receiving congressional scrutiny over his foreign business dealings. An Algerian teenager who disappeared in 1998 has been found alive in his neighbor’s basement, where he had been held captive for the past 26 years. Omar Bin Omran was just 17 when he went missing while traveling to his vocational school more than a quarter-century ago, the New York Post reported, citing Algerian media outlets. Omar, who is now 45 and has a beard, was rescued over the weekend from a hole in his neighbor’s basement, which was used as some sort of sheep pen and covered with hay. Omran’s family had assumed he had died as part of the country’s civil war with multiple Islamist rebel groups that were occurring in the 1990s and early 2000s, the Daily Mail reported. The man accused of kidnapping Omran, a 61-year-old referred to only as “B.A.,” has been taken into custody, according to a statement from the Djelfa Attorney General’s Office reported by multiple media outlets. “Two days ago, on 12 May 2024, the Public Prosecutor’s Office received, through the regional department of the National Gendarmerie in El Jadid, a complaint against an anonymous person claiming that the complainant’s brother, Omar bin Omran, who has been missing for about 30 years, is in the house of one of his neighbours, inside a sheepfold,” the statement said, according to the Mail. “Following this report the General Prosecutor of the Court of Idrisiya in the province of Djelfa ordered the National Gendarmerie to open an in-depth investigation and officers went to the house in question,” the statement added. “The missing person was found and the suspect, the 61-year-old owner of the house was arrested.” Omran will receive medical and psychological treatment following his ordeal, the prosecutor’s office said. The man who allegedly abducted Omran is reportedly a civil servant who was regularly seen buying enough food for two people despite living alone. Omran’s mother tragically died in 2013 without knowing that her son was alive and being held captive just 300 feet away from her home. Omran was reportedly made aware of his mother’s death while in captivity. In a statement reviewed by the Mail, the Algerian Ministry of Justice appeared to suggest that Omran’s family became aware of his location after the alleged kidnapper’s brother mentioned something about the missing man during an inheritance dispute. As to why Omran didn’t attempt to escape, Algerian media suggested he was unable to due to his diminished psychological state.
