Green Energy Needs Minerals, Yet America Blocks New Mines

People eagerly give money to rich environmental groups. The Natural Resources Defense Council has $463 million in assets. It claims it uses law “to confront the climate crisis.” What it really does is pay lawyers to torture people who try to do useful things. Example: America needs minerals like copper and silver to make things. Even President Joe Biden made a speech saying America will need 400-600% more such minerals to make “solar panels, wind turbines and so much more!” An iPhone alone requires aluminum, iron, lithium, gold, copper ... But when investors dare try to dig up such minerals in America, the NRDC objects and uses political connections to stop them. Twenty years ago, entrepreneurs tried to open a mine in Alaska. Before they even got the application in, the EPA vetoed it. Why? Because groups like the NRDC say the mine “would be a catastrophic threat to the wildlife and ... fragile ecosystem.” They get their way because when Democrats run the EPA, they not only support NRDC’s positions, they even hire NRDC employees. The next Republican administration removed the EPA’s veto. The Army Corps of Engineers then studied the mine and concluded that it wasn’t an environmental threat. So, is Pebble a bustling mine today? No. Democrats got elected and vetoed it again. Physicist Mark Mills wonders why anyone would try to open a mine in America today. “Why in the world would you put millions, maybe billions of dollars at risk, spending those decades to get a permit, knowing there’s a very good chance they’ll just cancel a permit? How in the world do you build mines in America knowing that that’s the landscape you have?” Well, you don’t. America now ranks second to last in the time it takes to develop a new mine -- roughly 29 years. Only Zambia is worse. “You start applying for permits,” says Mills, “You’re going to be waiting not months, not years, but decades!” Waiting while the NRDC sues and runs frightening anti-mine ads, saying nature will be “destroyed by a 2,000-foot gaping hole in the ground!” Mills points out their deceit. Today’s mines disturb “a tiny infinitesimal pinprick in the landscape” and we do need to disturb the landscape a little, because “we need metals and materials and minerals to build everything that exists to make society possible!” I confronted NRDC spokesman Bob Deans, saying the NRDC killing mines also kills people’s opportunity. He responded that “clean” energy creates jobs. “We created 50,000 new jobs in this country, putting up wind turbines, solar panels, building the next generation of energy efficient cars. This is where the future is!” “But also, you need copper and gold,” I point out. “That’s right,” says Deans, “And we have to weigh those risks.” But the NRDC doesn’t weigh the risks. They just oppose American mines. I asked Deans, “Are there any mines that the NRDC doesn’t complain about? “Sure,” he replied. He said he’d send us some names. But he never did. I asked again this month. Again, no names. “Don’t hold your breath,” says Mills. “The mines that they implicitly support are in Africa.” “Implicitly” because they don’t actually say mining should be done in poor countries. “They don’t say that,” says Mills, “But the green movement has been perfectly happy outsourcing mining to disadvantaged countries where thousands of children in bare feet, working by hand with shovels, dig minerals out of the earth.” At least in America, children wouldn’t be digging with their hands, advanced equipment would make mining safer and our rules would reduce pollution. You’d think environmentalists would want more mining done in America. “To have a sane world,” says Mills, “We should be doing a lot more of it. Not all of it. But not none.” Allowing America to do more would definitely be good. Our future needs minerals. “Society can’t exist without mines,” concludes Mills.

‘Do Not Do That at My Table’: CNN's Abby Phillip Scolds Calling a Woman 'Dear'

‘Do Not Do That at My Table’: CNN's Abby Phillip Scolds Calling a Woman 'Dear'

CNN host Abby Phillip broke out the scolding on Wednesday night’s NewsNight when Bruce LeVell – the former executive director of Trump’s 2016 National Diversity Coalition used the apparently offensive word “dear” to Democrat strategist Julie Roginsky, in a “condescending tone.” However, it was all right to accuse Matt Gaetz of “statutory rape.” Phillip didn’t mind that one bit. As they discussed all the allegations of sexual impropriety against Gaetz, Roginsky said: “They have a responsibility to do the right thing here, which is to say to the president, Mr. President, you get to choose your cabinet, but we have advice and consent powers, and we do not consent to Matt Gaetz. Find somebody else of similar ideology who doesn't have problems with potentially sleeping with underage girls, doing drugs and going to sex parties.” Levell protested that after Gaetz was investigated, “The bottom line is the DOJ said there’s nothing there.” Roginsky protested that no, “they said they didn’t have enough to indict. That shouldn’t be the standard.” Put aside that this is typically the standard for Democrats like Bill Clinton. Then Levell said: “No, it’s a charge, dear.” Roginsky took offense: “Dear? Excuse me. Thank you for the misogyny.” Then Phillip played the disciplinarian: Abby Phillip update: Bruce LeVell said the word "dear" to Julie Roginsky. She said "thanks for the misogyny," then Phillip scolded: "Please do not address a grown woman as 'dear' in a condescending tone. Do not do that at my table!" But you can accuse Gaetz of statutory rape... pic.twitter.com/BHJNQb4GzI — Tim Graham (@TimJGraham) November 21, 2024 PHILLIP: Hold on. Hold on. I'm just going to stop it right here because we're not going to get off on a wrong foot. Please do not address a grown woman as dear in a condescending tone. Do not do that at my table. You can continue. FMR. REP. DENVER RIGGLEMAN (R-VA): I was going to say for me, you know, Abby, my background is intelligence, and a lot of times when we track bad actors is through financial networks. So, once you have a follow the money diagram there, you're screwed. It ain't going to happen. And I want to tell you this also. It's not just the fact that he used public Venmo to actually, I guess, engage in statutory rape, right? Being accused of "statutory rape" (sex with a minor) seems like a tougher term than "dear." Levell didn't call Roginsky an "ignorant slut," but the reaction seemed about the same. Phillip doesn't object to mocking conservatives with rougher terms. She sat blankly as disgraced ex-PBS host Tavis Smiley said J.D. Vance has "mommy issues." Phillip also played the schoolmarm two weeks ago when CNN analyst Shermichael Singleton offended the LGBTQ cops by saying the supposedly horrific term "boys in girls sports." CNN contributor Ryan Girdusky was removed from CNN a month ago for joking on this show that Mehdi Hasan might have an exploding beeper like a member of Hamas.

Illegal alien NOT in custody after deadly crash claims life of beloved Michigan pastor

A beloved Detroit-area pastor was fatally struck while out on a morning walk earlier this month, yet the illegal alien believed to be involved in his death is still out roaming the streets.Around 6:45 a.m. on November 3, Stephen Singleton — a 72-year-old pastor, family man, and avid athlete — was out for his usual morning walk in Rochester Hills, Michigan, a city of some 76,000 residents about a half-hour north of Detroit. Wearing a reflector vest, Singleton stepped into the designated crosswalk so that he could safely cross Rochester Road near Avon Road.He didn't make it.At some point, an individual driving a 2013 Ford Focus struck Singleton with such force that he flew in the air and shattered the windshield, his grieving widow said."The car hit him so hard that he flew in the air and hit the windshield and broke it," Teri Singleton told WXYZ-TV.The injuries he sustained were catastrophic."He had almost every bone in his body broken," she told WJBK. "He had his collarbone fractured, internal organ damage, and his skull was cracked. He had two craniotomies in the hospital."Deputies initially told Mrs. Singleton that her husband was responsive despite his injuries, but by the time the family arrived at the hospital, he had taken a serious turn for the worse. He was placed on life support and died a few days after the crash.'I had to sit and watch my husband of 53 years die in front of me.'Stephen Singleton, always known for his devotion to others, went to New York City in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, praying with those in need and searching desperately — but ultimately in vain — for survivors."I started tearing because I couldn't find survivors," he recalled in a 2022 interview with WXYZ-TV, where Singleton once worked. "We would find people who were perished, but we couldn't find survivors."A GoFundMe page established following his death gives even more insight into the man Stephen Singleton was:He never met a stranger, was a friend to everyone and made lifelong friendships. His motto was everyone was his brother or sister and sharing support, wisdom and the love of the Lord was his responsibility. He was a father to the fatherless, as well as all his nieces and nephews and every child in all the neighborhoods he frequented. While the Singleton family is left to mourn the loss of such a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, the man believed to be involved in his death is not in custody."I had to sit and watch my husband of 53 years die in front of me, and then to know that the person who did this is walking around is very difficult to deal with," Teri said, adding, "He’s dead and they’re walking around. That’s bothering me."Investigators told WJBK that the individual is a Colombian national and that U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed that he crossed the border illegally and was released pending a future hearing in federal court. WXYZ-TV also noted that the man had a valid foreign driver's license, "which is accepted in Michigan."According to WJBK, police do not believe alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.A spokesperson from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office confirmed to Blaze News that the crash remains under investigation but declined to comment further.Like Blaze News?
