Apple Pay, Cash App, and other digital wallets will be regulated more like banks now

Illustration: Hugo Herrera / The Verge Major digital payment providers will soon be subject to bank-like supervision from the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). On Thursday, the CFPB issued a final rule that will regulate digital payment apps that process over 50 million transactions each year, covering services like Apple Pay, Google Wallet, PayPal, Cash App, and others. The new rule is meant to ensure digital payment providers adhere to the same laws as credit unions and large banks. It will give the CFPB the authority to oversee their compliance with federal laws surrounding privacy, fraud, and other rules through “proactive examinations.” This follows the CFPB’s initial proposal to regulate digital payment providers last year, which would’ve covered a wider... Threads tweaks its algorithm to focus on people you follow

Illustration: The Verge Meta is making a big change to Threads to show you more things from people you follow. “We are rebalancing ranking to prioritize content from people you follow, which will mean less recommended content from accounts you don’t follow and more posts from the accounts you do starting today,” Threads boss Adam Mosseri announced on Thursday. The change could make the For You feed include more accounts you actually care about, but we’ll have to wait and see if the update addresses the problem of the feed surfacing posts that are very old and no longer timely. You still can’t leave Threads in the Following feed, though. The change also means that creators should expect to see “unconnected reach” to go down, but “connected reach” to go up,... New Galaxy S25 Ultra leak confirms design changes that fans will love

With November almost over, Samsung is less than two months away from unveiling the Galaxy S25 series. The event should take place in mid-January, with the phones expected to hit stores two weeks later. The most recent leaks also say Samsung might announce the Galaxy S25 Slim as a surprise reveal during the January Unpacked event. None of that is official, but considering Samsung's schedule for the Galaxy S24 phones, it all makes sense. That also means Samsung must be manufacturing the Galaxy S25 phones already, or at least getting ready to start production. Therefore, the Galaxy S25 designs must have been finalized long ago, and the leaks we're seeing online are almost certainly accurate. Now, we have fresh leaks showing what appear to be dummy Galaxy S25 Ultra units. Yes, Samsung has finally changed the Galaxy Ultra design. It seems that Samsung made the changes many people have asked for, including ditching the signature Note look that the company has been using for years. Continue reading... Southern Minestrone

Southern Minestrone is a fun twist on the classic Italian recipe. Serve with some crusty Italian bread and a salad for a filling cold weather meal. What Is Different About Southern Minestrone? Minestrone is full of seasonal vegetables, beans, and pasta cooked in a falvorful broth. Instead of using cannellini, kidney, or garbanzo beans, I used lima beans. I also used collard greens instead of spinach, plus I added some ground beef. Just a little TABASCO sauce gives it a little heat. I like to go heavy on the Parmesan cheese. I also love to serve this minestrone with some fresh Buttermilk Cornbread Muffins and a garden salad with Creamy Italian Dressing. Make Ahead If you want to make-ahead or freeze this winter soup recipe, I recommend making the soup without the pasta. The pasta-less soup can be frozen for up to 2 months. When you are ready to serve, cook the pasta separately and add it into the minestrone. Storage Leftovers will keep for 4 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Keep in mind the pasta will soak up a lot of liquid overtime and get a little mushy in texture. No better meal for frigid temps than minestrone. And why not do it southern style with ground beef, lima beans, and collard greens? Southern Minestrone is a filling and satisfying meal.
