Dolly Parton Details Meeting With Johnny Cash At 13 Years Old: “That’s When I First Realized What Sex Appeal Was”

The Man in Black making the Queen of Country Music swoon. Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash go way back. The Tennessee native has never been shy about sharing her infatuation with Johnny Cash. From the moment Parton met Cash, she was taken aback by his masculine energy. Cash knew that Parton saw him this way. In 1997, Johnny appeared on Ralph Emory On The Record in promotion of his book Cash, in which he talks about being the first person to introduce Dolly at the Opry when she was just 13 years old. During the interview, Ralph played some of Dolly’s comments for Johnny to watch from an episode she was on previously, where she shared those feelings she got the first time she saw him: “Johnny Cash was the person that introduced me that night. And Johnny, first time I saw him, that’s when I really, that’s when he was lean and lanky, and that’s when I first realized what sex appeal was. I was 13 years old, it was like ‘Oh!’ It was like, holy moly, what is this? And then, little did I know, he’d be the first person to introduce me on the Opry.” Dolly's got good taste in men- even at 13. During a more recent interview with Jelly Roll's wife, Bunnie Xo, Parton elaborates on those first thoughts even more and shares how her age came into play on the effect he left on her. During the portion of the Dumb Blonde Podcast interview where they talked about Cash, Bunnie opened the conversation by asking Dolly Parton if he said anything about that first interaction that stuck with her for the rest of her career. "He said hello." The two got a good kick out of that before Parton continued her story. "See, I had seen Johnny Cash at another time... I had the biggest crush on him. He had so much magnetism, and I was so young, and I was just beginning to feel those hormones. You know where you feel those things I had never felt.  Well, he did have all of that movement. Now, I found out later that was because he was coming off drugs. He just had twitches, which I thought was magnetism. But I loved him, and for years and years, I told him he was my first crush. And he was."  Parton then says a scene in her Broadway musical highlights the moment Cash touches her shoulder and how it changed her life. "He was a real nice guy and very quiet. But I became best friends with June and Johnny after. So, as the years went by, we would visit, and we liked each other a lot." Thank goodness for Dolly June Carter never got jealous of her husband being her first crush, as Dolly and Johnny were great colleagues as the years went on. Bunnie comments that she really liked June Carter Cash. Dolly's response to why she loved June was hilarious. "She's a loudmouth like me. So, we got along just fine. I remember someone said to Johnny one time, 'Johnny don't you get tired of hearing June talk all the time?' And he said, 'No, I do some of my best thinking when June's talking.'" Next to every great man is a woman who loves to yap. While that statement is not an old wives' tale, it should be. Dolly Parton and June Carter Cash are perfect examples of that. You will never forget your first crush, and luckily for Dolly Parton, she got to befriend the powerful Johnny Cash and have him as a mentor. @xomgitsbunnie The Queen Dolly is here! OUT NOW for all members on my patre0n or tomorrow for wveryone else ?️?‍♀️ #dbpodcast #dolly ♬ original sound - Bunnie Xo ? Give the entire episode while you're here.

“It Needed To Be Redecorated” – Koe Wetzel Tells His Side Of The Wild Strip Club Story With Parker McCollum

“It Needed To Be Redecorated” – Koe Wetzel Tells His Side Of The Wild Strip Club Story With Parker McCollum

The other side of the story. A while back, Parker McCollum was a guest on comedian Theo Von’s podcast This Past Weekend podcast, where he told an absolutely insane story about a wild night he had with his friend, fellow Texan Koe Wetzel, at a shady strip club outside of Waco. They were on tour for their first Naughty or Nice Christmas run circa 2017, and the night ended with them kicking down drywall at the place they were staying in, after Koe punched out a mirror in the strip club and crawled through the street, obviously very intoxicated. You can read the whole thing HERE, and I'd highly recommend it because it's really a crazy tale. And today, Koe was a guest on Theo's podcast, where he told his side of the story when they started talking about Waco: "Waco is where, so when Parker was on, he told you that story about that strip club or whatever we went to, that's right outside of Waco." Theo asked: "Is it a good spot?" Koe told him it was the "the sh*ttiest strip club in the world," adding that apparently, it needed to be "redecorated," so he decided to help with the demolition: "No, its' the sh*ttiest strip club in the world... but it needed to be redecorated, I guess, so I just gave it to 'em. It was just mirrors everywhere, and I was like, man, f*** one of these mirrors, bro. Dude, I found the pictures that he  was talking about, like, us kicking holes in the drywall and sh*t. So somebody had found them and sent 'em to me , and I was like, 'Oh, f*** man.' It just us kinda like passed out next to 'em, drywall everywhere. We had some good times." Okay, he can't tell that story and talk about the photos and then not show them to us... The story ended when Parker remembered being woken up the next morning, to Koe helping him get his boots off at 5:30, still not having gone to sleep himself, saying: “And I wake up at like 5:30 in the morning, Koe is still awake, yanking my boots off. And he’s just going ‘I’ll never let you sleep in your boots, P. I’ll never let..’ and just yanking my clothes off of me. That was like one of the first times him and I had been on the road together, and I was like, this guy means business.” All’s well that ends well, I guess, right? They've obviously slowed it down a lot since then, and Koe also told Theo that he quit drinking whiskey this year because he started having to cancel shows and couldn't perform they way he should... I guess everyone grows up eventually, even if in their own little way... It's a great podcast and conversation with Koe, and you can watch the full episode here: https://youtu.be/QnOrhJ4kgMg?t=2983 Koe also told more of that crazy story the last time he was on our podcast, Whiskey Riff Raff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18YMW61ifq8 Koe just released a new holiday project called Wetzel’s Wonderland Chapter 2, which includes three covers of Christmas staples including “Run Run Rudolph,” “Merry Christmas Baby,” and “Silver Bells.” He has two more shows on the calendar for 2024, both in Texas to celebrate the Christmas EP and holiday season.
