Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley vowed to stay in the Republican Party primary race after losing to her former boss‚ former President Donald Trump‚ in New Hampshire on Tuesday night‚ her second primary loss. The race was called for Trump with less than 20% of the vote counted as the former president enjoyed an 8-9% lead over Haley in a state where she relied on independents‚ moderates‚ and secular voters to boost her. The remaining primary schedule largely favors the former president. “What a great night!” Haley declared while addressing her supporters‚ “God is so good.” After acknowledging that Trump won the primary‚ she said that “the political class” was “falling all over themselves saying this race is over.” “Well‚ I have news for all of them. CNN’s Van Jones responded to Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary — which former President Donald Trump was projected to win with more than 50% of the vote — with a warning to his fellow Democrats. During CNN’s post-primary coverage‚ Jones joined a panel discussion breaking down the results in New Hampshire. There‚ he argued that Republicans’ willingness to push ahead with Trump — in spite of the ongoing cases against him — was proof that they were not worried about any potential threat President Joe Biden might pose in the general election. Jones then pointed to the fact that Trump had won the first two official contests in the Republican primary — last week’s Iowa caucuses‚ which he won with 51% of the vote‚ and the New Hampshire primary election — despite numerous legal woes‚ and he did not appear to be losing support. “Part of what we’re looking at with Trump’s strength‚ his resilience‚ is really a reflection of Biden’s fragility‚” Jones said. “Republicans are not afraid of Joe Biden. They’re not afraid. The House Ethics Committee is reportedly expanding its investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) as it has reached out to multiple new witnesses. ABC News reported that the Republican-led Committee has reached out to “individuals who have ties to the initial Justice Department investigation into Gaetz.” The Committee was focusing on possible lobbying violations by Gaetz‚ the report said‚ but after its contact with individuals tied to the DOJ’s criminal investigation‚ the Committee appears to be looking into the “sex trafficking investigation into the Florida congressman‚” the report said. Gaetz responded to ABC News’ report in a statement: “It’s great to see the Ethics Committee has interests beyond trading stocks. They seem to be quite the unusual whales.” The Committee reopened its probe into Gaetz in July 2023 after the DOJ asked it to delay its initial probe into the congressman. The DOJ’s probe ended without no charges against Gaetz. “I was cleared by the Department of Justice and the FBI‚ who looked into my life for years‚” Gaetz said over the summer. “Now‚ I believe that the House Ethics Committee is trying to weaponize their process against me because every once in a while up here I’m a rabble-rouser and I don’t go along to get along.
