Suspect in 8 murders died of self-inflicted gunshot after massive manhunt‚ police say

Police said a man being sought as a suspect in eight murders was found shot to death with self-inflicted wounds after a nationwide manhunt. 23-year-old Romeo Nance was tracked to a Chubby's gas station in Natalia‚ Texas‚ where he reportedly shot himself after a standoff with police Monday. Investigators found five dead victims in one residence in Joliet‚ Illinois‚ and another set of three dead victims at another residence early Monday. He was also a suspect in the shooting of a man who was wounded in the leg. The victims ranged from a 14-year-old girl to a 47-year-old woman. Nance was identified as a suspect because he was a resident at one of those homes. Police are still investigating to determine his relationships with the victims. "During this investigation‚ Detectives quickly identified 23-year-old Romeo Nance as a suspect in the homicides on West Acres Road‚" said police Monday evening‚ "and it was believed that he was also involved in a fatal shooting being investigated by the Will County Sheriff's Office as well as a non-fatal shooting in Joliet." Investigators said they were still trying to determine a motive for the murders. "We can't get inside his head. We just don't have any clue as to why he did what he did‚" said Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans. Will County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Dan Jungles said that the shootings were very traumatizing for the community. "Mr. Nance's reign of terror on our communities in Will County is now over‚" Jungles said. "With so much sadness that surrounds these incidents‚ it is time for our communities to come together and heal." "I've been a policeman 29 years‚" Evans added. "This is probably the worst crime scene I've ever been associated with." Here's more about the development: Like Blaze News? Trump defeats Haley in New Hampshire Republican presidential primary

Former President Donald Trump won the New Hampshire Republican presidential primary‚ defeating Nikki Haley‚ who previously served as U.S. ambassador to the U.N. during a portion of Trump's White House tenure. While New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu had endorsed Haley‚ polls had been indicating that Trump had a lead heading into the Granite State contest.Undeclared voters could also vote in the primary. "An undeclared voter may vote in a state primary or a presidential primary‚" according to the New Hampshire secretary of state website. "You will be required to choose either a Democratic or Republican ballot when you go to vote."Trump's New Hampshire victory came after he won the Iowa Republican presidential caucuses last week. After Vivek Ramaswamy placed fourth in Iowa‚ he swiftly dropped out and endorsed Trump. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis‚ who placed a distant second behind Trump in Iowa‚ announced on Sunday that he was suspending his campaign and endorsing the former president. Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson‚ who dropped out after barely earning any votes in the Hawkeye State‚ has expressed support for Haley. Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.)‚ who launched then later dropped his own presidential bid last year‚ recently endorsed Trump. Haley appointed Scott to the U.S. Senate more than a decade ago while she was serving as South Carolina governor. There was also an unsanctioned Democratic presidential primary in New Hampshire on Tuesday. "January 23rd is a non-binding presidential preference event and is meaningless and the NHDP and presidential candidates should take all steps possible not to participate‚" Minyon Moore and James Roosevelt Jr.‚ co-chairs of the DNC Rules &; Bylaws Committee‚ declared in a letter earlier this month to New Hampshire Democratic Party chair Raymond Buckley. "No delegates or alternates shall be apportioned based on the results of the January 23‚ 2024 event." While President Joe Biden did not appear on the Democratic presidential primary ballot in New Hampshire‚ voters could write him in.Like Blaze News? Man allegedly caught with severed hand in his pocket denies murdering prostitute found headless in a Colorado creek

A man arrested with a severed hand his pocket claims he is innocent of the murder of a woman he said he had hired as a prostitute‚ according to Colorado police. The remains of Renee Portillo were found on Jan. 10 near Fountain Creek in Pueblo. An arrest affidavit says that Solomon Martinez was arrested after police found a severed hand in a plastic bag in the chest pocket of his jacket. Police said he admitted that he had the severed hand for two days but he denied murdering the woman. Martinez worked as a security guard at the Pueblo Arts Center. His roommate‚ Joshua Mazzurco‚ told police that Martinez had offered to pay Mazzurco to help him dig a large hole. “He had walked up to me and he had asked me‚ you know‚ ‘You want to absolve $1‚000 off your debt? I need a ten-foot hole.’ And he looks at me‚ goes‚ ‘I’m not playing around‚’” Mazzurco told KRDO-TV. He went on to say that he refused to help Martinez but that he watched as the man washed blood off of his hands at a car wash. “I was terrified. I was beyond terrified. Like‚ I can’t even put into words how physically scared I was‚” Mazzurco added. Martinez allegedly denied that he murdered Portillo but claims that he hired her as a prostitute and then refused to pay her after several hours. He also said that he had lent his car to a homeless man named James and that he is the person who killed Portillo‚ according to the arrest affidavit. Portillo's family said that she has three children and numerous grandchildren. Martinez was charged with first-degree murder and is being held on a $1 million bond.
