No sleep? 4 tricks to feel human again

No sleep? 4 tricks to feel human again

Of all the anti-natalist propaganda that circulates in American culture‚ I only find one talking point compelling: childless people get better sleep. Yes‚ here on month four of baby three's sleep regression‚ I will give you that. At this point‚ asking me about a good night's rest is like dangling food in front of a starving animal with no intention of feeding it. Cruel and unusual punishment. A gratuitous provocation. I might bite. Fortunately I have these practices to put me in a better frame of mind when running on fumes is the only option. Cold hydrotherapy Drink a tall glass of ice water. Soak your face in a bowl of it for ten seconds. Massage your undereyes with an ice cube. Take the coldest shower you can. Exposing yourself to extreme colds‚ in whichever way you choose‚ decreases inflammation‚ relieves pain‚ improves circulation‚ lowers stress levels‚ and reduces muscle soreness and mental fatigue. Doing this first thing in the morning‚ when you have a long day ahead after a short night’s sleep‚ can rev the engine and help you get by. Exercise It’s the last thing you’ll want to do‚ but light exercise in the morning‚ particularly in the sunlight‚ can help you regulate your “circadian clock” — the body’s mechanism for anticipating when to wake up and go to sleep — and it manages other biological processes like hunger and body temperature. If you don’t want your bad sleep to derail your health‚ consider this. Make a manageable list of things to do – and do them The temptation for me‚ when I profoundly lack sleep‚ is to turn on the television for the kids and languish until the day slips by. But this is how sleeplessness soon becomes a depressive spiral. I’ve found it’s important to hold oneself to a standard‚ even if it must be temporarily reconfigured to accommodate a lesser capacity to perform well. If only to psychologically fool yourself for a day‚ I’ve found making a list of small‚ manageable items and just doing them despite discomfort is the best way to move past the discomfort‚ ironically enough. Plan and prepare for better sleep Whether it’s getting your child on a more effective feeding schedule or getting to bed earlier‚ there are many different ways to pursue better sleep hygiene. Sometimes it’s unavoidable‚ but sometimes what begins as an unavoidable interruption can quickly turn into an excuse for indulging chronic bad habits. At 5 p.m.‚ you can directly begin preparing for sleep: chamomile tea‚ magnesium‚ tart cherry juice‚ no phone after 6 p.m. Andrew Huberman’s list is more exhaustive‚ but my point is more about radical honesty with oneself. Are we allowing difficulty to consume us or improve us? It’s a question worth considering‚ even and especially when exhaustion is a factor.

MSNBC anchor starts sobbing as he begins Jan. 6 anniversary interview — and observers mercilessly mock him

MSNBC's Jonathan Capehart started sobbing as he began a Jan. 6 anniversary interview Saturday — and observers mercilessly mocked the anchor for his emotional display. What are the details?Prior to interviewing Michael Fanone‚ a former Washington‚ D.C.‚ police officer‚ Capehart's voice seized up and began to break as he struggled to say‚ "I'm gonna try to get through this."Capehart paused to dab his nose with what appeared to be a hanky or piece of tissue."Thank you‚" Capehart then said to Fanone‚ his voice still shaky. With that‚ the camera quickly pulled away from Capehart and focused only on Fanone — which is when Capehart's sobs were on full display."For what you did‚" Capehart blubbered‚ barely hanging on to his emotions‚ as he continued his thank you to Fanone‚ "three years ago today."Fanone at first was looking at Capehart: Image source: X video screenshot via @CollinRuggThen‚ he averted his gaze downward after Capehart shifted to full sob mode: Image source: X video screenshot via @CollinRuggRegaining his composure‚ Capehart asked Fanone to "please tell me your thoughts on this third anniversary."Here's the clip: — (@) How are folks reacting? As you might guess‚ Capehart's sob show annoyed a fair number of notable folks:"State propaganda has reached a new level‚" conservative figure Collin Rugg said while calling Capehart's emotional display "unreal."Libs of TikTok said‚ "These people are pathetic paid actors!"Author Margaret Kimberley stated‚ "Move over Van Jones‚ now Jonathan Capehart is crying."Conservative pundit Carmine Sabia wrote‚ "Jonathan Capehart — you‚ my man‚ are a woman. ... the acting is so piss poor it’s hilarious. The more they push this January-6-is-the-same-as-9/11 nonsense‚ the more hilarious it gets. It’s beyond desperate."Podcaster Kyle Becker observed‚ "Capehart actually had a tissue prop on hand for this act. Pathetic!"Believe it or not‚ Capehart pushed back later Saturday on X: “And I’d do it again!” But commenters still weren't letting him off the hook.Brandon Straka‚ leader of the #WalkAway movement for disgruntled Democrats‚ told Capehart: "You had many opportunities to do it again: your side attacked‚ beat‚ injured‚ and murdered police relentlessly throughout 2020. You also defunded them and demoralized them. You advocated for all of this. You didn’t cry for any of it. Weird."Chad Prather stated bluntly‚ "You're an insult to vaginas."Another commenter provided the following dose of dark humor: — (@) Like Blaze News? X seeks to disclose FBI’s surveillance requests to users‚ but Supreme Court rejects case

On Monday‚ the United States Supreme Court refused to hear a decade-old lawsuit filed by Twitter‚ now X‚ that sought to publicly disclose how many times the federal government requests user data in connection with national security investigations. In 2014‚ then-Twitter filed a lawsuit after the Federal Bureau of Investigation declared that the social media platform could not reveal such information to its users in its biannual transparency report. The complaint alleged that the federal government’s restrictions on the disclosures were unconstitutional by unlawfully restraining its speech. In March‚ the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that “the government’s redactions of Twitter’s Transparency Report were narrowly tailored in support of the compelling government interest in national security” and‚ therefore‚ “did not violate the First Amendment.”“Against the fuller backdrop of these explicit illustrations of the threats that exist and the ways in which the government can best protect its intelligence resources‚ we are able to appreciate why Twitter’s proposed disclosure would risk making our foreign adversaries aware of what is being surveilled and what is not being surveilled—if anything at all‚” Circuit Judge Daniel Bress stated.X sought to appeal the lower court’s ruling.“If this Court does not intervene‚ different standards will apply in different circuits when entities like Twitter want to disclose how and how often the Government has demanded information from them. History demonstrates that the surveillance of electronic communications is both a fertile ground for government abuse and a lightning-rod political topic of intense concern to the public‚” X wrote in its petition to the Supreme Court. “It is critical that the standards for when and how entities may speak about the extent of governmental surveillance be clear‚ settled‚ and constitutionally adequate. Further review is warranted.”On Monday‚ Elon Musk‚ owner of X‚ stated that the Supreme Court’s decision not to hear his company’s lawsuit was “disappointing.”The Supreme Court did not explain why it rejected X’s appeal.Social media platforms like X and Facebook are allowed to disclose publicly a broad range of the number of requests for user data made by the federal government but not exact figures. Then-Twitter sought to include the exact number of times the government requested user information in a six-month period. When the company shared a draft report with the FBI before filing the lawsuit‚ the agency rejected Twitter’s request to disclose the information publicly‚ claiming it was classified. As part of a criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump‚ Department of Justice special counsel Jack Smith received a search warrant for Trump’s X account in 2023. X challenged a nondisclosure order prohibiting the company from notifying Trump about the request for user information. A Washington‚ D.C.‚ appeals court rejected X’s bid. The social media platform was hit with a $350‚000 fine for contempt for failing to meet the deadline to turn over the information on Trump’s account.Like Blaze News? Check out what the man-hating director of new 'Star Wars' film said 8 years ago

"Star Wars" used to be about epic space battles‚ galactic creatures‚ fearless jedi warriors‚ and good conquering evil‚ but like many Disney franchises‚ "Star Wars" is now heading down the path of wokeness. Pakistani activist and director‚ Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy‚ who the liberal-run media is celebrating as the first woman and person of color to direct a "Star Wars" film‚ has made it crystal clear that she intends to make the next film radically feminist and anti-male. The backlash from critics and fans has been anything but subtle. However‚ Obaid-Chinoy’s intentions shouldn’t come as a surprise‚ considering Disney’s insistence on shoving a progressive agenda down our throats and the fact that Obaid-Chinoy has long had a radical feminist agenda. Dave Rubin plays a clip of her at the Women in the World conference eight years ago telling Jon Stewart how she directs her films. “I enjoy making men uncomfortable‚” she said. “I am working to bring something that makes you uncomfortable‚ and it should make you uncomfortable because you need to change your attitude‚ and it's only when you're uncomfortable‚ when you're shifty‚ when you have to have difficult conversations that you will perhaps look at yourself in the mirror and not like the reflection.” “I remember when I was 5 years old‚ the first time I saw ‘Star Wars‚’ and I went into the bathroom after‚ and I stared in the mirror for like an hour‚ and I said‚ ‘you're a horrible person‚ Dave‚”’ mocks Dave. “She's been handed this legacy of this film franchise that has taken decades and decades to build [and] has millions of fans around the world‚” adds Andy Ngo. “People should be concerned that somebody who has this history of saying these things — of having a political [and] philosophical agenda in her work — has now been handed this huge franchise ... it's really hugely disrespectful to the fans.” Dave agrees‚ adding that alienating its original fans has really been Disney’s aim all along. “Disney announced a few years ago when they got both ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Marvel’ that they were going to push ‘Star Wars’ to be more for young girls and the Marvel Universe to be more for young boys‚ so this is a type of social engineering‚ isn't it?” he asks. “Absolutely‚” says Colin Wright. “This is all part of a bigger pattern that you see happening in so many different institutions where they take an institution that has this legacy‚ this history‚ this earned prestige‚ and then the activists just at the eleventh hour hop in the driver's seat [and] commandeer the whole thing just to use as a megaphone to spout their own ideologies and ... undermine the entire legacy.” Want more from Dave Rubin? To enjoy more honest conversations‚ free speech‚ and big ideas with Dave Rubin‚ subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America‚ defend the Constitution‚ and live the American dream.

Biden campaign brings reporters to campaign HQ for off-the-record scoldings — but the New York Times doesn't take it: Report

Members of President Joe Biden's campaign are trying to coordinate media coverage‚ according to a new report‚ amplifying their preferred narratives while scolding reporters for "what they're getting wrong."The Biden re-election campaign is organizing "off-the-record trips for top political reporters and editors" to the campaign headquarters in Wilmington‚ Delaware‚ Semafor reported. Those journalists are meeting with top officials in the campaign‚ including advisers‚ strategists‚ and even Biden's campaign manager. The purpose of the meetings? To review media coverage and correct what the campaign believes "they're getting wrong."More from Semafor: Two people with knowledge of the situation told Semafor that during meetings with reporters from outlets like The New York Times‚ the Washington Post‚ and others‚ campaign officials have invoked a coverage spreadsheet laying out areas where the team believes their reporting has fallen short. In particular‚ campaign officials have chafed at some of the coverage of former President Donald Trump‚ feeling that outlets are too focused on his legal troubles and haven’t paid enough attention to some of his incendiary recent statements on the campaign trail. In addition to meeting with journalists from the New York Times and Washington Post‚ the campaign plans to meet with reporters from Reuters‚ Bloomberg‚ NPR‚ Fox News‚ the Wall Street Journal‚ NBC News‚ ABC News‚ and others in the coming days.So far‚ the meetings have been "substantive" and "productive‚" according to Semafor‚ suggesting the legacy media is accepting cues from the Biden campaign. There was one interesting "exception‚" however: the New York Times. But it's not clear what issues either side raised with the other. For months‚ the Biden campaign has been quietly trying to shape the media narrative about the 2024 election. Not only are the White House and Biden himself frustrated with the media's coverage of the economy‚ for example‚ but the Biden campaign is especially concerned about the airtime that polls are receiving because they show Biden losing to Donald Trump.Biden and his campaign believe the media should dedicate more time to his narrative that Trump represents an existential threat to democracy. That narrative‚ of course‚ serves only to scare voters into supporting Biden's re-election.Like Blaze News?
