Museum Opens 100-Year-Old Time Capsule — See What’s Inside

What do you think you’d find in a time capsule from 1924? That’s what everyone has been wondering as experts worked to remove this piece of history from within the Liberty Memorial Tower, where it was buried a hundred years ago. On October 16, we finally got answers during an unveiling ceremony at the National World War I Museum in Kansas City, Missouri. However, it took a surprising amount of elbow grease to get the vessel open in the first place! According to UPI, workers began exhuming the time capsule this summer. First, though, they had to get through 18 inches of stone and concrete. It looks like the people who put it there a century ago really didn’t want anyone to peek! Watch officials “unbox” this 1924 time capsule 100 years later. The Associated Press tells us that there was another obstacle that had to be dealt with. Among the objects inside the time capsule, there was some film from the 1920s. While that doesn’t sound dangerous, experts realized that there was a flammable substance within this material: nitrate. This meant that the container shouldn’t be opened without police supervision. Thankfully, a video from the National WWI Museum and Memorial explained that the Kansas City Police Department’s Bomb and Arson Unit was there to oversee the process. After all that effort, there better have been something really cool inside this time capsule, right? Well, UPI listed some of the buried items, and there were several pretty historically significant documents, among other things! For example, there were letters from President Calvin Coolidge and a few WWI commanders. There was also a declaration of war from 1917, a copy of the Constitution, and some newspapers from the time period. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Old School Cool: Artist Scans “Lost Negatives” Found At Thrift Stores

One social media user is bringing the past to life by scanning strangers’ long-lost negatives, and the results will truly take you back in time! Known as @lost.negatives online, this person searches thrift stores to find discarded film. Then, they scan the images and post them on the internet so that people can actually enjoy them. These photos provide such interesting glimpses into other people’s lives! Here’s a great example. In the picture below, it looks like these women have just arrived at a beautiful travel destination. Doesn’t this image make you wonder who these people were and where they were going? Did they take this vacation together, or did they just happen to be near one another when someone else snapped the photo? What were they thinking about when they pulled up to this beautiful, mountainous location? Screengrab from TikTok Some of the lost negatives that this artist finds are remarkably well-taken, while others are delightfully amateur. In this portrait of an elderly woman, you’ll notice that her eyes are closed. Nowadays, someone probably would have deleted that picture and snapped another. However, the original cameraman likely had no idea that the woman had blinked until it was too late to do anything about it. There’s something beautiful about this candid shot, though. We’re glad it survived! Screengrab from TikTok People love how this artist gives new life to lost negatives. Quite a few commenters appreciate seeing what this social media user is doing with the lost negatives they collect. In response to this post, one person even pointed out that sharing these images could help reunite someone with their old photos! “How wonderful would it be to see lost photos of family you didn’t know existed from coming across your page,” wrote the user. “Love that you are doing this!” Screengrab from TikTok Another person added, “Maybe this is how we’ll live on in the future long after everyone who loves us is gone.” If you’re curious to know how this social media user is scanning the lost negatives, they shared their technique in a video. @lost.negatives Replying to @user7477347178750 #thriftfinds #filmphotography #filmscanning #vintage #analog #35mm #slidefilm ♬ Strangers – Mt. UFO Spotted Again Over Popocatépetl Volcano

Popocatépetl is once again the focus of mystery, as a recent UAP sighting (see video below) has sparked renewed theories about extraterrestrial life and unexplained phenomena. On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, a bright, fast-moving light was captured in footage over the volcano, popularly known as “Don Goyo.” The video, shared by the official Webcams de México account, shows an unidentified flying object (UFO) streaking across the sky above the volcano, leaving viewers captivated and fueling speculation that Popocatépetl may be an extraterrestrial “hotspot.” Social media users quickly chimed in with their interpretations. Some believe the sighting adds to the growing body of evidence suggesting alien activity near the volcano, while others suggest a simpler explanation—an insect or moth that, due to an optical illusion, appears to be flying over the crater. More skeptical viewers propose that the light could be a meteorite or a reflection. Popocatépetl has long been associated with similar sightings, giving rise to theories that the volcano could be a “hotspot” for extraterrestrial visitors. Enthusiasts point to the frequency of these sightings as evidence of alien activity in the region. However, experts caution that such phenomena could also be attributed to drones, aircraft, or optical effects. Webcams de México, known for its live monitoring of beaches, volcanoes, and picturesque towns across the country, has become a popular source of unusual sightings at Popocatépetl, particularly after dark. While the true nature of the recent sighting remains unverified, the question lingers: could this be a sign that we’re not alone, or is it simply another visual anomaly?
