Meet ‘Gorda’, The Petite Shelter Dog With The Heart Of A Mountain Lion Who Needs A Forever Home

The Orange County Animal Services shares the story of one of their shelter dogs, Gorda, who has been in and out of the shelter four times, and is need of a loving forever home. The animal shelter in Florida featured six-year-old Gorda’s story on their Facebook page on Tuesday, October 29. “Six years old and 35lbs; she’s a petite girl with the heart of a mountain lion,” is how the Orange County Animal Services introduced Gorda. “Usually at this point in a feature post, we would tell you how Gorda came in wild and angry, and eventually warmed up and acclimated to shelter life. But nothing could be further from the truth,” the shelter continued. The animal shelter calls Gorda a ‘tiny terror’ and a special girl, who will need a special person to adopt her. Gorda is the definition of the saying “small but terrible”, because you see, even when she was a little puppy, she had a habit of going after dogs. “The resident who brought her in warned us that she was going after her dogs and that she was a little rowdy,” the animal shelter explained. “She’d had Gorda for a week and considered keeping her, but realized quickly that Gorda wasn’t a good fit.” The animal shelter further shares that when Gorda arrived in their shelter five years ago, she was friendly and sweet to all the staff. However, two days into her stay, the tiny terror got into a fight with another dog, almost twice her size. “To Gorda it doesn’t matter; small dog, medium dog, big dog, she’s ready to take them all on,” the animal shelter shares. Gorda is clear about her disapproval of other dogs. As a matter of fact, the shelter wrote that she is a little troublemaker when out in their yard, “running the fence line to rile up the other kenneled dogs.” So, it has been challenging for the shelter to pair her up. And while Gorda has experienced sharing a home with another dog in the past, she definitely puts up her ‘tough girl attitude’ when another dog is in her presence. Furthermore, the animal shelter reveals that Gorda has also been in and out of the shelter four times. “She was reclaimed twice, rehomed once, and then surrendered this last time when she was picked up as a stray.” But do not let Gorda’s intimidating aura and tough attitude fool you! While Gorda is all tough and trouble, she is still a sweet little girl. The Orange County Animal Services wrote, “She’s good with people, sweet when she wants to be, affectionate when it suits her, and loves her treats and butt scratches.” The animal shelter writes, “Gorda’s face speaks volumes” because while she is tough and always ready to fight, she is gentle and playful with the right company. “To know Gorda is to love her,” the animal shelter wrote. “We know in the right home, with the right person, her scary attitude with dogs may change. That scowl may soften into a smile, and that glare into an adoring gaze. We’re just hoping someone is willing to give her that chance.” If you’re interested in giving this tough girl the chance she deserves, you can visit the Orange County Animal Services, with no appointment required. You can also view Gorda’s Pet Profile here.

Lawyer Claims Earth Has Technology to Bring Down UFOs

Danny Sheehan, who has recently played a role in bringing UFO whistleblowers to testify before the United States Congress, has been instrumental in exposing alleged government cover-ups of real extraterrestrial encounters. In a series of explosive claims, Sheehan previously spoke about two potential bases where hundreds of UFOs have reportedly been seen “going in and out of it” and alleged that aliens are extracting human eggs and sperm. He has now returned with yet another bold statement. In a recent interview on the Julian Dorsey podcast, Sheehan claimed that technology capable of “disabling” and bringing down alien spacecraft exists on Earth—and that it could be interpreted as an act of war. He said, “They’ve (the US Government) developed technology to knock these, some of these things down. It’s an extraordinarily powerful technology, we’ll call it, that is capable of disabling the craft, enforcing them down. “It’s an extraordinarily sophisticated technology that’s been developed to take them down. Now, that doesn’t mean that they haven’t compensated for that. “But there were a number of the vehicles that were recovered, intact vehicles, that were forced down by this technology. And so what I’m saying is that this wasn’t a passive, just go find one that happens to have accidentally crashed and hit by lightning or something.” When asked by the host if this could be perceived as “an act of intergalactic war” by aliens, Sheehan agreed. He elaborated, “That’s one of the major concerns about this, that this would be considered a potential act of war against them, because our military people were considering it an act of war for them to come and shut off our nuclear missiles. “So they engaged in kinetic actions against the craft and that they brought some of them down. I don’t know the exact date yet, as to when this new technology got developed, the ability to force them down and to recover the intact craft. “We know that it exists, and we know that it was formulated.” The post Lawyer Claims Earth Has Technology to Bring Down UFOs appeared first on Anomalien.com.

PBS-Picked Prof Warns of ‘Very Dangerous Rhetoric’ from Trumpian Evangelical Christians

On Sunday's PBS News Weekend, only two days before the presidential election, anchor John Yang harped constantly on social issues in order to cast Republicans, specifically Trump supporters, as extremists, portraying the views of a small minority of Christian Trump supporters as representing evangelical Christians in general. One night after attacking Republicans as transphobic, PBS News Weekend, again anchored by Yang, fearmongered over Trump’s Christian conservative supporters with the help of yet another activist guest, again without any conservative voice or argument in rebuttal. John Yang, Anchor: Now, in the closing days of the campaign, some of his supporters have characterized Kamala Harris in biblical terms. [clip] David Rem, Trump Childhood Friend: She is the devil, whoever screamed that out. She is the Antichrist. Yang: How did evangelicals come to hold such strong views about the candidates? Kristin Kobes Du Mez is a history professor at Calvin University in Michigan. Her work focuses on the intersection of gender, religion, and politics. Du Mez is also the author of Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation, which, according to a rave at the left-leaning review site Kirkus Reviews, “characteriz[es] white evangelicals throughout as racist, hypernationalistic, and utterly patriarchal.” Another balanced news source at tax-funded PBS! Du Mez has a foolproof Christian detector, evidently. Du Mez: It’s very popular in evangelical spaces to hear language of God’s anointed, God’s chosen one, when Donald Trump comes up. And this is very convenient language because, of course, on the surface, Donald Trump does not appear to be a Christian. He does not appear to exemplify Christian virtue. But the idea that God has selected him nevertheless, has selected him, perhaps even because he doesn`t exemplify traditional Christian virtue, to do something special in this particularly perilous moment. And so they love using language like, Donald Trump is a King Cyrus, selected by God in order to protect God`s special people and restore Christian America. Yang: Protecting God's special people. You know, in this campaign, he's talked about retribution, about revenge and fighting enemies from within. Does that appeal to evangelical voters as well? Du Mez: It does, very much so. Within conservative evangelicalism, for a long time, their leaders have really leaned into a kind of us-versus-them framing. So we are God`s people, God is on our side, and those who are against us politically, theologically, are therefore against God. And so this is the kind of framing that really leaves no space for compromise. And it opens one up to demonizing one`s opponents, sometimes quite literally. And so this language, there's already a long history of that within conservative evangelical circles. And that is something that Trump himself embraces. And then he takes it up a level, even when he`s talking about retribution, when he`s talking about revenge against his enemies. This is very dangerous rhetoric. And within conservative evangelicalism, there is a theological permission structure that actually leans into that rather than offering some restraint. Are we to believe that the religious left isn't engaged in an us-versus-them battle? The anchor conjured up fantasies of a religious rebellion if the election doesn’t go evangelicals’ way. Yang: Along those lines, if Donald Trump were to lose and Kamala Harris win next week, how would that affect evangelicals' willingness to accept that outcome? Du Mez: It's actually quite concerning, because if evangelicals are convinced that it is God's will that Donald Trump become the next president and that doesn't happen, then that will be a crisis moment.... Du Mez previously appeared on PBS back in July, fearmongering about Project 2025 on Amanpour & Co. This segment was brought to you in part by Consumer Cellular. A transcript is available, click “Expand.” PBS News Weekend 11/3/24 7:19:23 p.m. (ET) John Yang: Donald Trump has long cultivated his support among Christian conservatives. He got about 80 percent of the white evangelical Christian vote in 2016 and 2020 and appears to be on track for a similar result this year. But it took on a new tone after the assassination attempt in July. Donald Trump: I was knocked to the ground essentially by what seemed like a supernatural hand. And I would like to think that God saved me for a purpose, and that's to make our country greater than ever. John Yang: It's a thought shared by many of his supporters. Dr. Robin Armstrong, Texas Delegate: I think that God spared his life for such a time as this. You know, I really believe that it's a miracle that took place. John Yang: Now in the closing days of the campaign. Some of his supporters have characterized Kamala Harris in biblical terms.   David Rem, Trump Childhood Friend: She is the devil who ever screamed that out. She is the Antichrist. John Yang: How did evangelicals come to hold such strong views about the candidates. Kristin Kobes Du Mez is a history professor at Calvin University in Michigan. Her work focuses on the intersection of gender, religion, and politics. Kristin, let's start out by talking about the view that Christian evangelicals hold of Donald Trump and the terms they used to describe him and whether the assassination attempt had any effect on that. Kristin Kobes Du Mez, Calvin University: It's very popular in evangelical spaces to hear language of God's anointed, God's chosen one, when Donald Trump comes up. And this is very convenient language because, of course, on the surface, Donald Trump does not appear to be a Christian. He does not appear to exemplify Christian virtue. But the idea that God has selected him nevertheless has selected him, perhaps even because he doesn't exemplify traditional Christian virtue, to do something special in this particularly perilous moment. And so they love using language like, Donald Trump is a King Cyrus, selected by God in order to protect God's special people and restore Christian America. John Yang: Protecting God's special people. You know, in this campaign, he's talked about retribution, about revenge and fighting enemies from within. Does that appeal to evangelical voters as well? Kristin Kobes Du Mez: It does, very much so. Within conservative evangelicalism, for a long time, their leaders have really leaned into a kind of us versus them framing. So we are God's people, God is on our side, and those who are against us politically, theologically, are therefore against God. And so this is the kind of framing that really leaves no space for compromise. And it opens one up to demonizing one's opponents, sometimes quite literally. And so this language, there's already a long history of that within conservative evangelical circles. And that is something that Trump himself embraces. And then he takes it up a level, even when he's talking about retribution, when he's talking about revenge against his enemies. This is very dangerous rhetoric. And within conservative evangelicalism, there is a theological permission structure that actually leans into that rather than offering some restraint. John Yang: You talk about demonizing, and you heard that a gentleman at the Madison Square Garden rally call her the Antichrist. And this morning, Trump at a rally called the Democratic Party, a demonic party, talk about that sort of personalization on Kamala Harris of these thoughts and feelings. Kristin Kobes Du Mez: Yeah, that kind of rhetoric is not rare in these spaces. Again, to see one's political enemies as enemies of God and therefore as allied with the Devil. To hear that language against Kamala Harris is therefore not surprising. And sometimes you'll hear it in different versions. Antichrist is one variant demonic or Jezebel, channeling the Jezebel spirit. Jezebel was an Old Testament figure who was an enemy of God's people, and met a violent end, thrown out of a window and eaten by dogs. And this kind of language then it presents her as the political enemy, but also as a spiritual enemy. And so it really ups the stakes. And it also is dehumanizing her as not a political opponent, not a member of an opposing party, but as demonic or as an enemy of God. This kind of rhetoric, kind of spiritual warfare rhetoric need not lead to actual violence, but in historic cases, it often does. John Yang: Along those lines, if Donald Trump were to lose and Kamala Harris win next week, how would that affect evangelicals willingness to accept that outcome? Kristin Kobes Du Mez: It's actually quite concerning because if evangelicals are convinced that it is God's will that Donald Trump become the next president and that doesn't happen, then that will be a crisis moment. And what we have seen in the past in 2020, we kind of have a preview of this because there too, there were prophecies that Trump was God's anointed, was God's chosen, and that he was going to win the election, and then he did not. But in these charismatic spaces, they continue to insist that he was in fact, God's chosen one and that God was going to make a way. Many of these people were at the Capitol on January 6th thinking that God would make a way one way or another. And what this does, it just ups the stakes of the election to kind of spiritual end game. John Yang: Kristin Kobes Du Mez of Calvin University, thank you very much. Kristin Kobes Du Mez: Thank you.

Pet Telehealth: What It Is & How It Works

Click to Skip Ahead How It Works Different Types Where Is It Used? Advantages Limitations FAQ In the years since the global pandemic, virtual health services have become part of our vocabulary and daily lives—and now, virtual care is available for your pets, too! Whether it’s for a quick consult, after-hours questions, or when in-person visits aren’t possible, pet telehealth has emerged as a convenient solution for pet owners who need flexible and fast access to vet care. From video calls to costs, this article will dive into how pet telehealth works, when it is indicated, and how PangoVet is leading the charge in providing the highest standard for your pet’s virtual healthcare needs. How Does Pet Telehealth Work? Image Credit: imtmphoto, Shutterstock Pet telehealth connects pet owners with veterinary professionals through online platforms like video calls, chat, or dedicated apps. This convenient setup allows pet parents to access expert advice without the need for a clinic visit, making it ideal for addressing minor concerns and after-hours questions, receiving recommendations on preventative healthcare, following up on treatment, or when in-person visits aren’t possible. One key concept in pet telehealth is the veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR), which is a legally defined relationship where the veterinarian has established a familiarity with the pet and can provide specific care.1 Every state has defined how VCPR can be established and maintained, and most do require an in-person physical examination or other ways of the veterinarian seeing or becoming acquainted with the pet. At this moment, PangoVet does not establish the VCPR and is not there to replace the in-person veterinarian, but instead provides general advice and prioritizes follow-up communications to keep both the pet owner and the vet informed about the pet’s health status and any recommended next steps. Additionally, PangoVet maintains a strong connection between pet owners and their veterinarians by having a small team of dedicated vets, allowing pet parents to request the same veterinarian for future consultations, ensuring continuity of care. Here’s how a typical appointment process works with a platform like PangoVet: Fill Out a Quick Form and Tell PangoVet About Your Pet: Start by answering a few questions about your pet’s health needs and the reason for your consultation. This information helps the vet prepare for your session. Schedule Your Online Appointment at a Time That is Convenient For You: PangoVet provides a 20-minute, one-on-one video call session with an experienced vet, giving you a focused opportunity to address concerns. Bringing your pet to the video call is optional but often helpful for the vet’s assessment. Join the Video Call: At your scheduled time, join the video call to discuss your pet’s signs of illness, behavior, or any issues you’re noticing. The vet will offer personalized advice, discuss possible next steps, and guide you through any immediate actions. Receive an Actionable Report: After the consultation, PangoVet sends you a follow-up report. This easy-to-read summary, prepared by experts, outlines key insights from your call, recommended next steps, and helpful tips to ensure your pet stays on track toward good health. By fostering these relationships, PangoVet helps ensure that pet owners receive personalized care tailored to their pet’s specific needs, making telehealth a valuable tool in pet healthcare. What Are the Different Types of Pet Telehealth? Pet telehealth encompasses various virtual services designed to provide health education and advice for pets from a distance. These services typically fall into three main categories: tele-triage, telemedicine and tele-advice. Tele-Triage Tele-triage involves veterinary professionals assessing pet health through electronic communication methods such as email, text, live chat, and video calls. Tele-triage is primarily used for answering emergency health questions and advising on the next steps for pet care. Importantly, this service does not involve diagnoses or prescriptions. PangoVet is proud to offer tele-triage that offers prompt and clear guidance on whether your pet requires immediate care or if you can manage their needs at home until you can see a veterinarian. Telemedicine Telemedicine provides a more comprehensive service compared to tele-triage, often requiring an established VCPR relationship between a veterinarian and their client. Typically offered as an extension of veterinary practices, telemedicine allows for diagnosis and treatment plans, including the ability to prescribe medication, depending on state laws. Tele-advice Tele-advice or General advice is a way for veterinarians to provide general advice and recommendations on various preventative healthcare topics, but without specifically diagnosing or focusing on a condition. This service is not able to provide a prescription or treatment, and focuses on general advice and tips, with this type of communication often being established outside of a VCPR. PangoVet stands out in this category by fostering relationships between pet owners and their veterinarians, ensuring that clients receive adequate general advice and recommendations. Image Credit: Hananeko_Studio, Shutterstock Where Is It Used? Pet telehealth has gained traction worldwide in both urban and rural areas where traditional veterinary services may be limited or challenging to access. Telehealth platforms enable pet owners to connect with veterinarians without the need for travel, which is particularly beneficial in remote locations, for pets with travel anxiety, or during potential emergencies when advice is sought on whether immediate care is necessary. Many veterinary clinics have integrated telehealth services into their practices, allowing existing clients to seek advice and follow-up care without needing to visit in person. This service is especially useful for ongoing health management, behavioral consultations, and for addressing minor health concerns that don’t require physical examinations. Additionally, organizations dedicated to animal welfare and rescue operations have started to use telehealth to provide support and advice to foster homes and adopters, ensuring pet owners receive necessary guidance regardless of location. Advantages of Pet Telehealth Pet telehealth is revolutionizing the way pet owners access veterinary care, offering convenience and flexibility like never before. Here are some advantages of using pet telehealth services: 24/7 Availability: Many pet telehealth services operate around the clock, providing access to veterinarians anytime your pet may need care, even during late-night emergencies. Multiple Communication Options: Pet telehealth platforms often offer various communication methods, including phone calls, video chats, and text messaging. This flexibility makes it easier for pet owners to reach out for advice when they notice something unusual about their pet, rather than making a potentially stressful trip to the clinic. Cost-Effective: In many parts of the world, virtual vet appointments are more affordable than in-person visits. This cost efficiency, combined with savings on travel time and expenses, can make telehealth a more budget-friendly option for pet care. Convenience: For those living in rural areas or places without easy access to veterinary clinics, pet telehealth eliminates the need for long drives to receive care. You can consult with a veterinarian from the comfort of your home. Reduced Stress for Pets: Telehealth can be particularly beneficial for pets who experience anxiety during travel or in waiting rooms. Pets can receive care in a familiar and comfortable environment, minimizing their stress and discomfort. Quick Access to Expertise: With telehealth, you can quickly consult with a veterinarian about any concerns. This immediate access can be crucial in deciding whether your pet needs urgent care or if it’s safe to monitor the situation at home. Continuity of Care: Many tele-advice platforms, like PangoVet, allow you to connect with the same veterinarian for follow-up appointments. This consistency helps build a stronger understanding of your pet’s health history and needs. These advantages highlight how pet telehealth can enhance the pet care experience, making it easier for pet owners to manage their pets’ health and well-being. Image Credit: Mea Studio, Shutterstock Limitations of Pet Telehealth While pet telehealth offers numerous benefits, it also has certain limitations that pet owners should be aware of: Limited Scope of Services: Of course, virtual vet care should not replace comprehensive annual checkups or physical exams to make accurate health assessments. With PangoVet, your telehealth vet will be sure to advise you of this if necessary. Diagnostic Limitations: Telehealth services are not able to provide the same level of diagnostic capability as in-person visits. Certain conditions may require laboratory tests, imaging, or other diagnostic procedures that can only be conducted at a veterinary clinic. With PangoVet, you will be advised if further testing from your vet is necessary. Prescription Limitations: Not all telehealth services are able to establish a VCPR and may not be able to provide prescriptions, based on country or state law, or in some cases, the company’s decision themselves. Since virtual visits are not replacements for in-person veterinary care, it is difficult (and oftentimes irresponsible) to prescribe medication without having physically seen the veterinarian. Technical Barriers: Not all pet owners may have access to reliable internet or the necessary technology for telehealth appointments. This can create disparities in access to veterinary care, particularly in rural or underserved areas. These limitations highlight the importance of understanding when telehealth is an appropriate choice for your pet’s health needs and when a traditional veterinary visit is necessary. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Is pet telehealth cheaper than traditional veterinary appointments? Pet telehealth appointments are typically more affordable than in-person visits, although prices can vary widely depending on the type of service needed. Luckily, PangoVet has an upfront, completely transparent cost of $29.99 for a 20-minute video appointment with one of their vets. Does pet insurance cover pet telehealth services? Some pet insurance providers do cover telehealth services, but coverage can differ widely. You may need to pay for initial consultations out-of-pocket. It’s essential to verify with your insurance company to see if they cover telehealth and whether they offer any specific telehealth services as part of their policies. Image Credit: Indypendenz, Shutterstock What types of concerns are best suited for pet telehealth? Telehealth is ideal for non-emergency situations such as general health inquiries, behavioral issues, follow-ups on chronic conditions, end of life care, nutritional advice and minor health concerns that don’t require physical examinations. We have included a table below to simplify when pet telehealth is indicated. Can I get prescriptions through pet telehealth? In some cases, veterinarians can prescribe medication during telemedicine consultations if state regulations permit it and a veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) has been established. However, prescriptions are not provided through tele-triage and tele-advice services. How do I prepare for a pet telehealth appointment? To prepare for a telehealth consultation, gather any relevant medical history, including vaccination records, recent signs of illness, and a list of any medications your pet is currently taking. Having your pet on hand during the appointment can also help the veterinarian assess the situation more effectively. Image Credit: Mirjana Zidar, Shutterstock When is Pet Telehealth Recommended? This table can help pet owners decide whether to visit a veterinary clinic or use telehealth services based on their pets’ needs. While telehealth is convenient for many routine inquiries and minor concerns, in-person visits are essential for emergencies and comprehensive health assessments. Situation Go to the Vet Use Telehealth Emergency Situations Serious injuries, trauma, collapse, breathing difficulties or bleeding. Use tele-triage only if you are not sure whether your pet needs to see the vet urgently. Physical Examinations Annual check-ups or vaccinations. Follow-up questions and recommendations about preventative healthcare. Severe Signs Persistent vomiting, diarrhea, with or without blood, lethargy, inappetence or difficulty breathing. Mild signs that need monitoring, like mild diarrhea without blood in an otherwise bright animal, that is still eating. Behavioral Issues Severe aggression or sudden changes in behavior. General behavioral questions or advice. Diagnostic Tests Blood tests, X-rays, or ultrasound examinations. Discussing test results or minor concerns. Medication Refills Prescription renewals for chronic conditions needing examination. Simple refills for well-managed conditions, in cases where VCPR is established and requirements for prescribing have been fulfilled. In-Depth Health Concerns Unexplained weight loss or changes in appetite requiring tests. Questions about minor health changes or management or use of tele-triage. Nutritional Advice Specific dietary needs for medical conditions. General dietary advice or pet food recommendations. Conclusion Pet telehealth is transforming the way pet parents access vet care, offering a range of services that cater to various needs. With tele-advice platforms like PangoVet, you can enjoy seamless access to experienced veterinarians who are ready to offer personalized advice for your furry companions. By bridging the gap between convenience and quality care, PangoVet empowers pet owners to make informed decisions about their pets’ health, ensuring they get the right support exactly when they need it. Embrace the future of pet care with PangoVet, where your pet’s well-being is just a click away!
