Trump, RFK Jr.’s ‘Make America Healthy Again’ Pledge Signals Major Shift in GOP Priorities

DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—The recent vow from Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to tackle public health issues together could signal a major shift in Republican priorities if the former president prevails on Election Day. Trump has called for creation of an independent commission with the input of Kennedy, the former independent presidential candidate. He also has pledged to address various “Make America Healthy Again” issues that RFK Jr. has brought to the forefront, including improving the public’s intake of nutritious foods and addressing the rising trend of obesity in adults. These concerns, in addition to other so-called MAHA priorities that have not historically found much support in the GOP—such as calling for more stringent environmental regulations—indicate that a potential second Trump administration may take a different approach on health, agricultural, and environmental issues than during the first term. Campaign officials, GOP lawmakers, and health experts previewed a diverse set of these health priorities in interviews with the Daily Caller News Foundation. Tackling the rising chronic disease rate that affects roughly 60% of American adults is a shared point of concern. “It’s finally turning the page and saying, ‘We want a health system, not a disease system,’” Dr. Robert Redfield, former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said. “For 50 years we built a disease system.” “When we send President Trump back to the White House, he will work alongside passionate voices like RFK Jr. to Make America Healthy Again by providing families with safe food and ending the chronic disease epidemic plaguing our children,” Karoline Leavitt, national press secretary for the Trump campaign, said. “President Trump will also establish a special presidential commission of independent minds who are not bought and paid for by Big Pharma and will charge them with investigating what is causing the decadeslong increase in chronic illnesses.” Yes @CalleyMeans @RCamposDuffy we're going to get @realDonaldTrump back in the White House and me to D.C. to clean out corruption of our government agencies and Make America Healthy Again. #MAHA ?? pic.twitter.com/0tFjwkRlUF— Robert F. Kennedy Jr (@RobertKennedyJr) October 27, 2024 Republicans, including former Trump administration health officials, are enthusiastic that marshaling the federal government in response to the country’s myriad health crises could turn the corner on an era where Americans are facing poorer health outcomes and declining life expectancy. Redfield, the former CDC director, endorsed the idea of an independent commission on chronic disease and told the Daily Caller News Foundation that the federal government “must get more serious in preventing chronic disease” to turn that corner. “It’s much more important to get real time, continuous, day-to-day monitoring of your chronic illness, not just the way the system works now where you check in every six months and someone tells you how you’re doing,” Redfield added. “No, you’ve got to check in every day.” According to Redfield, a second Trump administration could cut the $4 trillion-plus Americans spend on health care every year by half if federal agencies take an “all-of-government” approach to targeting substance use disorder, obesity, and ultra-processed foods in addition to improving mental health services. “These are, in my view, low-hanging fruit,” Redfield said. “That alone would improve the American health system substantially.” Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, who is helping vet candidates to serve in a second Trump administration, recounted running into a swarm of British schoolchildren on a recent trade mission to the United Kingdom. Miller said it provided further confirmation that a second Trump term must take action on obesity and processed foods. “Ninety kids and there wasn’t one fat kid in the bunch,” recalled Miller, who has also called for bringing back the presidential fitness test program retired by the Obama administration in 2012. “That kind of inspired me and made me think we’re not doing something right.” To improve health outcomes for the more than 40% of Americans who are obese, Miller told the Daily Caller News Foundation, a second Trump administration should consider ending the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program coverage for processed foods. [SNAP remains popularly known as food stamps.] “Why are we paying for soda drinks and cookies and junk food with SNAP benefits?” Miller asked. “That needs to stop.” Miller also pointed to his Texas Fresh Farm program, which provides fresh and local products to more than 5 million Texas schoolchildren as a program that should be implemented nationwide to improve a portion of the public’s intake of nutritious foods. Republican lawmakers have also been supportive of a second Trump administration prioritizing nutrition as part of the “Make America Healthy Again” agenda. “As a physician, I can absolutely say that good nutrition leads to better patient outcomes 100% of the time. Healthy food is medicine and is the cure for many chronic diseases and curbing health care spending in the United States,” Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kansas, told the Daily Caller News Foundation in a formal statement. “American farmers set the gold standard for nutritious food, and the MAHA agenda will work with farmers and ranchers to continue producing the safest and most wholesome food at affordable prices for our country and the world.” Implementing these priorities will likely require the empowerment of federal government agencies with budgets and enforcement powers that Republican lawmakers could be inclined to shrink. Taking action on chronic disease and obesity will also necessitate buy-in from members of the public and lawmakers who have lost trust in institutions’ abilities to tell the truth and manage crises such a COVID-19 without infringing on individual autonomy. “Our failed response to the pandemic opened the eyes of millions to the capture and corruption of federal agencies by the corporate interests who are supposed to be regulated by them,” Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said. “As a result, the public’s interest is not being well served or properly protected.” “Getting public health officials in the next administration that really spend a lot of energy on trying to reestablish public trust is going to be fundamental to the success of the efforts of Make America Healthy Again,” Redfield said. “The vaccine mandates were a big mistake. Closing down our economy—a big mistake. Shutting down our schools—a big mistake. So, there was a huge loss of credibility and trust that has to be rebuilt.” Redfield said he is still a strong believer in vaccines, dubbing them “the most important gift to modern medicine,” but said vaccine mandates are a self-defeating approach and that debate about a vaccine’s safety and efficacy should be encouraged not denounced.  “I’ve always said that Bobby Kennedy is not anti-vax. Bobby Kennedy just wanted honest transparency and debate about vaccines,” Redfield said of RFK Jr. “We should foster discussion and debate, and if someone has a question about looking at data to determine a vaccine’s safety that shouldn’t be listed as anti-vax. That should be listed as wanting an honest, open discussion about ‘What is the data?’” “As we secure our borders and rebuild our economy, we are also going to Make America Healthy Again,” Trump himself said Wednesday at a campaign event with Kennedy in Duluth, Georgia. “We have more chronic health problems than any nation, more childhood diseases than we did just a generation ago. Millions of Americans are realizing that something is wrong.” “By getting this fixed not only will we have healthier families, we will save trillions and trillions of dollars and bring down the cost of health care,” Trump said. “We have a thousand chemicals in our food that are illegal in Europe, but the problem is not from those chemicals. The big problem is corruption in our federal agencies. These agencies are now owned by big Pharma, by Big Food and Big Agriculture,” Kennedy told the crowd in Duluth. “Don’t you want a president that’s going to get the chemicals out of our food? And don’t you want a president that’s going to get the corruption out of Washington, D.C.? And don’t we deserve a president of the United States that’s going to Make America Healthy Again?” Redfield also told the Daily Caller News Foundation that he’s willing to serve in a second Trump administration. “I’m in the final turn,” Redfield said. “I’d obviously work in any way I can to help the president and Bobby Kennedy and our nation move toward health.” Kennedy did not respond to a request for comment. Man Asks Roommate To Move Out Because Of His Emotional Support Dog

A man is going viral on the famous Reddit community, “Am I The A**hole? (AITA)” after sharing his dilemma about telling his roommate to move out because of his emotional support dog. In the 26-year-old man’s Reddit post, he shares that he has been roommates with a guy, he referred to as ‘Jake’ in the post, for about two years. The man shares that Jake has been a decent roommate and they get along quite well, not until recently. “Jake has struggled with anxiety for a while, and earlier this year, he got an emotional support dog, a small terrier mix,” The anonymous 26-year-old explains. “I was fine with it at first, even though I’m not a dog person, because I wanted to be supportive.” But here’s where it gets bad – “this dog has turned my life upside down” the man admits. Why, you might ask? Well, the man reveals that the dog is a very badly behaved dog. “It barks constantly when Jake isn’t home, chews on furniture, and has accidents all over the place,” the man explains. The man said he had tried talking to Jake about the problem and has also offered a few solutions for Jake to correct the dog’s behavior. “He’s always apologetic, but nothing really changes,” the man writes. Furthermore, when presented with the options to correct the dog’s behavior, “Jake claims he can’t afford it.” AJR_photo / Shutterstock.com The issue has gotten so bad that the man dreaded coming home after a long day at work. He said, “I dread coming home because I know I’ll be dealing with the dog’s mess and noise.” “I work long hours and really value my peace and quiet when I’m off, but that’s impossible now,” the man said. So, the man addresses the elephant in the room with two choices that he thinks would solve both his and Jake’s problem: move out and find a new place or get rid of the dog. However, Jake didn’t like both options, and got really upset with the man. “[He] said the dog is essential for his mental health, which I understand, but I didn’t sign up to live with a poorly behaved dog.” The man then reveals that after asking Jake to move out or get rid of the dog, their relationship has been “super tense”. He proceeds to say that Jake has been calling him heartless and is punishing him for needing support. On top of that, a few of their mutual friends are siding with Jake, saying that the man should be more understanding since it’s a mental health issue. However, the man said, “I feel like I’m sacrificing my own well-being here.” The man now asks the AITA community, “Am I the A**hole?” which the community responded with a big NO. One Reddit user wrote, “Tell all your friends they are welcome to let him and his poorly trained badly behaved dog move in. His mental health is not more important than yours!” While another user pointed out the dog’s breed and how people don’t know how to choose the right kind of dog for their lifestyle. “Terriers do bark. They’re high energy and very sensitive if you don’t train them properly, it’s a nightmare,” they wrote. Another Reddit user also pointed out how irresponsible Jake is as a pet owner. They said, “Jake isn’t being punished for having mental health needs, he’s experiencing to consequences of being an irresponsible pet owner who won’t train his dog.” What do you guys think?

How Quantum Entanglement Works and the Nature of Reality

How Quantum Entanglement Works and the Nature of Reality

Quantum entanglement is counterintuitive phenomenon in quantum physics where two particles become profoundly linked, such that a change in one particle instantly affects the other—even if they are separated by billions of light-years. This effect occurs regardless of the distance, meaning that an action performed on one particle will be reflected in the other, instantaneously. In 1964, physicist John Bell introduced the idea that these instant changes could indeed be real and measurable, even at extreme distances, formulating what is now known as Bell’s theorem. This theory challenged the established laws of physics, particularly the principle that information cannot travel faster than the speed of light—a principle confirmed by Albert Einstein decades earlier. Einstein famously referred to quantum entanglement as “spooky action at a distance.” What is Quantum Entanglement? Quantum entanglement hinges on a fundamental concept in quantum mechanics called superposition, which means that particles can exist in multiple states at once until measured or observed. Think of a coin flip: after flipping the coin but before looking at it, we know it will land either heads or tails, but the exact outcome is unknown. In quantum terms, this “unknown” extends further—it’s as if the coin doesn’t settle on heads or tails until you actually observe it. Superposition is essential for understanding entanglement because it shows how quantum particles do not have fixed properties until observed. Entanglement takes this concept a step further by linking two particles in a special superposition that connects them across space. In our coin example, imagine two coins, one in New York and the other on Mars, are entangled. Flip the coin in New York and observe it, and the coin on Mars would instantly “know” the result, even though it hasn’t been flipped. This entangled state between two locations is unique to quantum mechanics and defies our everyday experience. Examples of Quantum Entanglement One common example of entanglement is with pairs of photons (particles of light) emitted simultaneously from a single source. When photons are entangled, their polarizations—the direction in which they oscillate—are linked. If you measure the polarization of one photon to be horizontal, the other, when measured, will also be horizontal, regardless of the distance between them. In simple terms, imagine these photons like two dice always landing on matching numbers when rolled, no matter how far apart they are. Polarization is a property related to the oscillation of the light wave’s electric field as it moves through space. It can oscillate in various directions—vertically, horizontally, or anywhere in between. So, when entangled photons are separated, and one’s polarization is measured, the other’s polarization will match, as if “knowing” the first measurement result instantly. Is Quantum Entanglement Faster than the Speed of Light? At first glance, entanglement appears to allow information to be transmitted faster than light. If we measure one entangled photon on Earth and its pair on Pluto, it should take about six hours for information to travel between them at light speed. However, the second photon’s measurement will still match the first, no matter the distance or delay, suggesting an instant connection. However, this does not mean information is truly traveling faster than light. Scientists believe it’s not a case of “transmitting” information but rather a natural correlation set up when the particles became entangled. Think of it as two pre-agreed cards, one red and one black, shuffled and given to two people on opposite sides of the galaxy. When one person checks their card, they know the color of the other’s card without sending any information. Similarly, when we measure entangled particles, it’s as though they “knew” to match up, but nothing traveled to convey this. It shows that particles can be connected in ways that don’t fit into classical models of cause and effect or distance. This has led to numerous experiments aiming to understand if space and time are fundamental properties or emergent ones. If the principles behind entanglement are better understood, it could revolutionize theories of the universe and lead to a new framework that unites quantum mechanics with general relativity. Have Scientists Proven Quantum Entanglement? For over 50 years, scientists have tried to experimentally test Bell’s theorem. In 2015, physicists conducted one of the most precise tests to date, finding strong evidence that particles in an entangled state do indeed influence each other, supporting Bell’s theory. A 2022 study reinforced this further, showing that any realistic model of the universe that includes “hidden variables” (unknown factors that might explain these phenomena) must allow for the “spooky” influence between entangled particles. This ongoing research confirms that quantum entanglement is real and measurable, even though it still defies our classic understanding of space, time, and causality. This CPU cooler deal not only enables you to prevent your CPU from overheating, and reduce noise with a new NZXT Kraken Elite cooler, but also to personalize your PC’s interior with a customizable screen on top of your CPU. We gave the RGB 360mm version of this cooler a score of 9/10 in our NZXT Kraken Elite 360 RGB review, praising its great looks, low-noise operation, and tremendous cooling abilities, but criticized its “eyebrow-raising” price. However, now you can have your cake and eat it, picking up one of the best CPU cooler designs around for just $159.99 if you buy the 240mm model, or $199.99 for the mighty 360mm version.
