‘Unacceptable’: County Fires Election Worker After Republican Spots Ballot Security Lapse in Real Time

DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—Hennepin County, Minnesota, fired an election worker who left several boxes of mail-in ballots unattended after a local GOP group exposed the alleged negligence, according to a statement from county officials released Friday. Minnesota Senate District 50 Republicans—the Republican Party’s official political unit for portions of Minnesota cities Edina and Bloomington—snapped a photo outside of Edina City Hall Friday showing a courier vehicle’s “rear door ajar with ballot transfer cases inside.” A review of parking lot surveillance footage found the ballots were not tampered with, and a comparison of the votes with the statewide voter registration system for absentee ballots found a perfect match. “Hennepin County acknowledges that this lapse in protocol occurred, should not have happened, and is unacceptable,” the county’s statement reads. “Corrective actions have been taken by the county and its courier to prevent any recurrence. The county has confirmed the driver has been terminated.” Do these ballots look secure to you? Critics of mail-in voting have raised concern regarding ballot delivery, with the National Association of State Election Directors and other officials writing a letter to the U.S. Postal Service Postmaster in September flagging potential challenges such as processing delays, lost or delayed election mail, and insufficient training. “Election security is of utmost importance, and leaving ballots unattended is simply unacceptable,” Hennepin County Auditor Daniel Rogan said in the county’s statement regarding Friday’s incident. “Hennepin County is reinforcing its transfer protocols with county staff and vendors. An incident like this underscores the value of strong chain-of-custody processes, so that risk can be addressed and integrity can be verified.” Hennepin County and the Minnesota Senate District 50 Republicans did not immediately respond to requests for comment. They Put a Kitten Found in Engine Compartment with Crew of Orange Cats, and the Cutest Thing Followed

They put a kitten found in an engine compartment with a crew of orange cats, and the cutest thing followed. Penny @fosterkittenhqAbout a month ago, Tails High, an animal rescue, took in a litter of five orange tabbies who had been born outdoors. They were skinny and in need of TLC.Penny Richards, a foster volunteer, welcomed them into her care and got right to work. "Some of them had eyes that were stuck shut. They were much smaller than your typical five-week-old kittens, and the girls, in particular, were very bony," Penny shared with Love Meow."Thankfully, they were all great eaters, so within a few days, they had already started to fill out." Tails HighWith attentive care and treatment, their eyes cleared up, and their bodies healed. "All of them were a little shy on their first night, but by the morning, they were ready for snuggles."The orange kittens, named after game consoles, came out of their shells as soon as they felt a pep in their step. Penny @fosterkittenhqOne after another, they ventured outside their comfy nest to explore their surroundings. With their personalities emerging, their orange spirits roared to life."Vectrex immediately stood out as a very gentle, sweet boy who just wanted to be held. Atari (the sickest upon arrival) was the first to show her fun personality as she bounced around, and soon everyone followed suit." Penny @fosterkittenhq"They are a playful group but are very sweet kittens with the most gentle souls."Around that time, Penny was contacted about a little kitten found in a car's engine compartment. The kitten had been brought into foster care as a lonesome orphan and desperately needed new friends. SubaruPenny @fosterkittenhqSubaru, named after the car he was found in, arrived at Penny's home with a ton of energy, a love for attention, and a very squeaky meow."He absolutely loves to run all over and pounce on everything as he plays. He's only a little younger (than the console kittens), but the extra floof makes Subaru the same size as his friends." Penny @fosterkittenhqWhile Subaru patiently waited in the room next door, the orange crew went about their day, eating, playing, and hogging their foster mom's lap. After about ten days of ensuring he was healthy, Subaru was ready to meet the feline crew. Top: Sega, Atari, PlayStation; middle: Vectrex; bottom: NintendoPenny @fosterkittenhqHe was embraced by the orange tabbies, finding comfort in their furry midst, fitting in so well as if he'd always been part of their litter."The console kittens immediately accepted him as their new brother, and Nintendo would follow him everywhere. Nintendo is a sweet little boy who just loves to make new friends. Little Subaru was so happy to have a new family." They immediately accepted Subaru into their crewPenny @fosterkittenhq"They love jumping on one another and wrestling each other. They also love nothing more than piling up on my lap together as they purr and nap. Just like the consoles they are named after, these kittens provide hours of fun and games."Subaru is thrilled to have five new siblings to keep him busy. He's constantly on the move, running and tumbling until he's completely worn out. Penny @fosterkittenhq"Whenever I enter their room, I am met with a chorus of purrs. All six of these kittens (especially the gingers) are huge cuddlers and will hop on my lap as soon as I sit down." Penny @fosterkittenhqSubaru has found his place within the clowder. Having other kittens around gives him a sense of belonging and joy that he's never felt before. He is a little dynamo, zooming around, pouncing on others, and climbing anything he can, especially his foster mom's legs. "Good thing he's really a sweet little guy under all that floof." Penny @fosterkittenhqShare this story with your friends. 'She's Not Lazy': Acosta, Dale Rush To Defend Harris After Trump Event

CNN Newsroom host Jim Acosta and fact-checker Daniel Dale white knighted for Kamala Harris on Tuesday as the pair reacted to a Donald Trump forum where Trump called Harris a “Marxist” and “lazy as hell.” Acosta thought such comments were “incoherent,” while Dale claimed they proved that the two candidates cannot be credibly viewed as equally truthful. Acosta began by cutting the sound from Trump’s event and opining, “And that is former President Donald Trump holding what is being described as a Latino roundtable in Miami, although, as you just heard a few moments ago, it was sort of a rambling, incoherent string of consciousness or something close to that from the former president.” He proceeded to claim, “He went on a variety of tangents during that rant a few moments ago. He described Kamala Harris as – quote, ‘lazy as hell,’ saying she is a Marxist. She's not a Marxist. Obviously, she's not lazy as hell. She was a district attorney in San Francisco, attorney general in California, senator from California, and vice president. Can't really be lazy as hell if you're doing all of those things.”     Those aren’t fact-checks. Those are “I don’t like what he said” lamentations. Trump’s “lazy as hell” comments were almost certainly a response to the Harris campaign lobbing the same criticism against him, but Acosta would never say Trump holding a roundtable was proof that he wasn’t lazy or exhausted. As it was, Acosta then introduced Dale with another compliant he had against Trump, “During the Trump administration, the Bureau of Prisons, a division of the Justice Department, provided an array of gender-affirming treatments, including hormone therapy, for a small group of inmates who requested it during Donald Trump's four years in office, that according to the New York Times. What Acosta left out was the Times adding, “The most significant change the Trump administration made in the treatment guidelines after it took over was the addition of the word ‘necessary,’ which created a higher but not insurmountable barrier to federally funded surgeries.” Trump adviser Brian Hughes also told the Times, “Kamala Harris has forcefully advocated for transgender inmates to be able to get transition surgeries, President Trump never has.” Still, Acosta wondered, “There were a number of falsehoods, typical Trump stretching of the truth, bending of the truth, attacking the truth, but your thoughts? What did you pick up on?” Dale began by agreeing with Acosta on transgender prisoners and Harris not being lazy, “Yeah, I mean, that one about prisons and transgender people stood out to me. He claimed that Vice President Harris is off today. She is off the campaign trail in terms of rallies, also taping two pretty high-profile interviews, so she's not like she's not on the beach.” He also attacked Trump for talking “about how Harris is a huge liar. The New York Times did a side-by-side analysis of one speech from each of them, I think it was last week. They found something like 23 false claims from Trump, 15 or 16 misleading, 15 or 16 exaggerations. They found from Harris, it was like one false, one misleading, one exaggeration. I might quibble with the specific numbers, but we're dealing with that kind of huge disparity, so I think important to point out.” One reason for Trump’s number is that it includes claims about when Harris dropped out of the 2020 primary, while part of the reason Harris’s number is lower is because her speeches are full of political clichés. Acosta then recalled, “I mean, when Donald Trump was in office, correct me if I'm wrong, or if you have got the numbers handy, that's great, but the Washington Post found well over 30,000 lies, I think, uttered by Donald Trump when he was in office.” That itself is misleading, but Dale cleaned it up a little bit, “Yeah, it was 30,000 false or misleading claims. I counted false claims in particular. I had like 7,000-plus from Trump.” If one were to count every time a Democrat compared Republicans to Jim Crow or the Nazis, you would end up with some mind-bogglingly large number too, but Democrats don’t get fact-checked on such claims. Here is a transcript for the October 22 show: CNN Newsroom 10/22/2024 11:30 PM ET JIM ACOSTA: And that is former President Donald Trump holding what is being described as a Latino roundtable in Miami, although, as you just heard a few moments ago, it was sort of a rambling, incoherent string of consciousness or something close to that from the former president. He went on a variety of tangents during that rant a few moments ago. He described Kamala Harris as – quote, "lazy as hell," saying she is a Marxist. She's not a Marxist. Obviously, she's not lazy as hell. She was a district attorney in San Francisco, attorney general in California, senator from California, and vice president. Can't really be lazy as hell if you're doing all of those things. And, Daniel Dale, I want to bring you in because you're a fact-checker. One of the things that we heard from the former president a few moments ago, he was talking about how she was in favor of sex changes for prisoners. One thing that we should note is that, during the Trump administration, the Bureau of Prisons, a division of the Justice Department, provided an array of gender-affirming treatments, including hormone therapy, for a small group of inmates who requested it during Donald Trump's four years in office, that according to the New York Times. But, Daniel, there were a number of falsehoods, typical Trump stretching of the truth, bending of the truth, attacking the truth, but your thoughts? What did you pick up on? DANIEL DALE: Yeah, I mean, that one about prisons and transgender people stood out to me. He claimed that Vice President Harris is off today. She is off the campaign trail in terms of rallies, also taping two pretty high-profile interviews, so she's not like— ACOSTA: She's not off. DALE: She's not on the beach and then I think -- I fact-check both of these candidates, but I have fact-checked Donald Trump for eight-plus -- eight-plus years now. That's right. And I think any objective analysis of the level of lying done by these two candidates will find that Trump does way more. You know, he spoke for a couple of minutes there about how Harris is a huge liar. The New York Times did a side-by-side analysis of one speech from each of them, I think it was last week. They found something like 23 false claims from Trump, 15 or 16 misleading, 15 or 16 exaggerations. They found from Harris, it was like one false, one misleading, one exaggeration. I might quibble with the specific numbers, but we're dealing with that kind of huge disparity, so I think important to point out. ACOSTA: And, Daniel, we should also -- I mean, when Donald Trump was in office, correct me if I'm wrong, or if you have got the numbers handy, that's great, but the Washington Post found well over 30,000 lies, I think, uttered by Donald Trump when he was in office. DALE: Yeah, it was 30,000 false or misleading claims. I counted false claims in particular. I had like 7,000-plus from Trump.

POLL: 9 in 10 Voters Say CBS Should Release Full Kamala Harris Transcript

POLL: 9 in 10 Voters Say CBS Should Release Full Kamala Harris Transcript

Nine in ten voters say CBS should release the full transcript of its October 7 interview with Vice President Kamala Harris which the network edited before airing in an apparent attempt to present Harris’s comments in an unrealistically favorable manner. CBS issued a statement this week denying allegations that it deceitfully edited Harris’ answers to questions – but, it obdurately continues to refuse to release the full video and transcript of the interview. By releasing the full transcript of the October 7, 2024 interview, CBS would enable the public to judge whether or not the edits made before airing were biased and made to dishonestly portray Democrat Presidential Candidate Harris’s remarks. And, Americans overwhelmingly do want to see for themselves what actually took place in the CBS interview, a CAPS/Harris survey finds. (The Harris poll, which has been around since the Sixties, is in no way related to Kamala Harris.)  A national survey of registered voters, conducted October 11-13 by The Harris Poll and HarrisX, asked the following question: “Should CBS release the full transcript of its interview with Kamala Harris or not release the full transcript?” Fully 85% of voters – including 87% of Democrats, 88% of Republicans, and 80% of Independents/Others say that, yes, CBS should release the full transcript. Even seeing the full transcript, a majority (53%) of voters say “CBS has edited their interview with Kamala Harris to make her look better.” Partisanship appears to have had a strong influence over voters’ beliefs, however. While 81% of Republicans think the interview was edited to make Harris look better, 73% of Democrats believe CBS was “fair and objective in their editing.” Independent/Other voters were evenly divided (50%-50%) in their opinions of the integrity of CBS’s editing. The controversy was sparked when CBS changed Harris’ answer to a question it aired, as NewsBusters explained in an October 9 report: “Brian Flood and David Rutz at FoxNews.com reported that CBS aired two different answers to the same question on Israel in its 60 Minutes interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. First they aired a word-salad answer on Sunday’s Face the Nation. But when the interview aired on Monday night, the answer was entirely different.” “This is obviously not the first time 60 Minutes has made a hash out of editing a politician. They deceptively edited a hit piece on Gov. Ron DeSantis over Covid vaccines in 2021,” NewsBusters explains. “Then, of course, there's the difference between the video Trump made of his battle with Lesley Stahl over the Biden influence-peddling scandals in October 2020, and the video that CBS put on television.” The CAPS/Harris poll finds that voters are also strongly divided along party lines about whether Harris’s recent interviews on 60 Minutes, Howard Stern and Call Her Daddy helped or hurt her, with Democrats largely saying they helped (86%) and Republicans saying they hurt (81%). A 54% majority of Independents/Others say the recent interviews hurt Harris. Voters generally distrust all network news taken together, as 56% say news departments are “run more by partisan activists” than by “fair, even-handed journalist.” Again, however, Democrats are trusting of network news, while Republicans and Independents/Others see political propaganda being peddled. Among Democrats, 59% say objective journalists are running network news. But, 67% of Republicans and 61% of Independents/Others say “partisan activists” are controlling network news coverage.
