DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—Americans’ trust in the mass media has fallen to a record low leading up to the November election, according to a new survey released by Gallup on Monday. About 36% of those surveyed said that they have “no trust at all” in the mass media, while only 31% expressed a “great deal” or “fair amount” of confidence, and 33% expressed “not very much” confidence, according to the Gallup survey. The low trust in the media comes as mainstream outlets are being criticized over accusations of bias, such as with the lack of coverage of President Joe Biden’s mental acuity before his debate against former President Donald Trump. Americans’ confidence in the mainstream media previously dropped to a previous low of 32% in 2016, which was matched in 2023, according to previous Gallup surveys. Democrats expressed the highest amount of confidence in the mass media being able to report news “fully, accurately, and fairly,” with 54% saying they trust it, according to the survey. Age gaps also made a difference in the ratings, with 74% of Democrats aged 65 and older having a fair or great amount of confidence in the media, compared with just 31% of Democrats aged 18 to 29. Republicans and independents expressed much lower confidence in the mass media, compared with Democrats, with only 12% of Republicans and 27% of independents saying they have a great or fair amount of media trust, according to the survey. The U.S. legislative branch was also rated poorly, with only 34% of people saying they trusted it. ABC journalists Linsey Davis and David Muir came under fire after they moderated the ABC News presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris on Sept. 10, as many debate viewers thought it was unfairly rigged against Trump. Viewers expressed outrage over Trump being fact-checked multiple times by the debate moderators, while Harris was largely not challenged on her claims. CBS News was recently criticized for editing footage of Harris’ response to a question about the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in a “60 Minutes” interview Oct. 7 While many people expressed concern over Biden’s mental acuity following his appearance in the June 27 presidential debate against Trump, several corporate news outlets tried to blame Biden’s debate performance on his having a cold. Gallup’s poll was conducted between Sept. 3 and Sept. 15 and surveyed a random sample of 1,007 adults from all U.S. states, with a plus-or-minus 4 percentage point margin of error. CNN: Say, Remember When Kamala Pledged to Prosecute Oil Producers Rather Than Praise Them?

With only three weeks remaining before the election, Google continues to heavily push leftist media coverage of Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump in search results. On Oct. 15, MRC researchers once again used AllSides “right” and “left” bias ratings and found that Google Search results for “kamala harris presidential race 2024” and “donald trump presidential race 2024” were dominated by a deluge of legacy media and far-left outlets. The results prominently featured CNN and The New York Times, and publications owned by leftist billionaires, such as Jeff Bezos’s The Washington Post and Marc Benioff’s Time. Not a single right-leaning outlet appeared in Google search results until Fox News was displayed on page eight for the Harris prompt and on page seven for the Trump prompt. Tellingly, when searching for the aforementioned Harris prompt, Google did not display a single media outlet that AllSides rated as “lean-right” or "right" until a Fox News video appeared as the fourth result on page eight of the search results. For an actual “lean right” or “right” article, users had to go all the way to the fifth result of page 14 to find a New York Post piece.  Google buried the first “lean right” or “right” outlet as the third result on the seventh page when MRC researchers analyzed results for the Trump prompt, as Google finally displayed a Fox Business article in this spot. Google did not display another right-leaning outlet until The Telegraph appeared as the fourth result on page 11. This overt leftist bias is especially concerning, as a November 2023 Pew Research survey shows an increasing number of Americans get their news from search engines. The study found that 15 percent of U.S. adults prefer getting their news from search engines, up from 13 percent in 2022, and 11 percent in 2021. Previous MRC Free Speech America studies have consistently exposed Google for its leftist bias in search results, which invariably favor leftist media outlets. MRC researchers have used the exact same prompts on different days and found that Google hides right-of-center results from all but the most determined users. On Oct. 1, Google buried the first U.S.-based “lean-right” or "right" search result for the Harris prompt on page 13, while hiding the first similar result for the Trump prompt on page 14. On Oct. 9, Google placed the first U.S.-based “lean right” or “right” search result for the Trump prompt on page 23. That same day, Google showed zero American right-of-center news outlets for the Harris prompt until page 11.  A September study revealed that users trying to find Trump’s campaign website had to wade through a gauntlet of leftist articles before reaching it. Following the release of the MRC study, Trump condemned Google’s behavior in a post on Truth Social, vowing legal action in a potential second administration.  “It has been determined that Google has illegally used a system of only revealing and displaying bad stories about Donald J. Trump, some made up for this purpose while, at the same time, only revealing good stories about Comrade Kamala Harris,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He went on to refer to Google’s behavior as “ILLEGAL ACTIVITY” and promised to prosecute their election interference when he takes office. Google, on the other hand, absurdly tried to dismiss the study, claiming that the MRC study used a “rare search term on a single day several weeks ago” in an attempt to portray the results as nonrepresentative. But the MRC has conducted 23 studies on Google’s election-related search bias (19 at the time of Google’s dismissive response) and documented the search giant’s long history of election interference dating back to 2008.  For example, Google buried Trump’s campaign website so far down that it did not appear on the first page of results during the Republican National Convention and ahead of the July presidential debate between Trump and Biden. The search giant also did this while Trump shortly after a guilty verdict following Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s politicized prosecution of him.  This is just one of a myriad of ways that Google has interfered in American elections on behalf of its favored candidates. In fact, Google meddled in American elections no fewer than 41 times from 2008 to 2024, including by burying 83 percent of the Republican campaign websites for the most competitive Senate races during the 2022 midterm elections. Methodology  For this report, MRC Free Speech America analyzed the Oct. 15 Google search results of the innocuous words “donald trump presidential race 2024” and “kamala harris presidential race 2024.” MRC Free Speech America used a private window utilizing the Brave privacy browser to analyze Google search results to limit the influence of prior search history and tracking cookies. MRC Free Speech America also utilized the AllSides media bias chart as a gauge to determine which outlets are “right” and “lean right.” AllSides notes it has a “patent on rating bias and use[s] multiple methodologies,” not a homogenous group or an algorithm. “Our methods are: Blind Bias Surveys of Americans, Editorial Reviews by a multipartisan team of panelists who look for common types of media bias, independent reviews, and third-party data.” Readers should be aware that this report only uses the AllSides list to analyze ratings of outlets considered by AllSides to be “right” and “lean right” and does not necessarily reflect MRC’s characterizations of these outlets. CBZ Management, a company that owns a number of apartment complexes in Colorado, broke its silence on Friday, confirming that the vicious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua has taken over several properties.The company started an account on X to share its side of the story after many local officials and the media reported that the claims of TDA's takeover were overblown.'Yes, gangs did take control of our apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado, and the government did nothing. That is the real story.'Rumors of the transnational gang's expanded presence in the area became seemingly undeniable in late August when Cindy Romero, a former tenant at the Edge at Lowry, a property owned by CBZ, released a video showing a group of armed men storming through the complex, Blaze News previously reported. Another video the then-tenant captured showed a man using a hammer to destroy the deadbolt lock on the same apartment unit. Cindy Romero and her husband, Edward, were desperate to leave the complex, saying it had become "a nightmare" since the gang had moved in. Aurora City Council member Danielle Jurinsky ultimately helped find the Romeros another place to live. At the time, Jurinksy told Fox News Digital that it was "like pulling teeth to get anyone, the media, other elected officials ... to acknowledge the presence of this trend and to acknowledge that there is even a problem."Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) called the TDA invasion "largely a feature of Danielle Jurinsky's imagination."CBZ explained that it had begun managing the Colorado properties in 2019, and, at that time, the apartments "were in poor condition." The company aimed to renovate the complexes and increase their value, noting that the project was "ambitious" and would "take years" to complete."Everything was progressing smoothly: property values were rising, and vacancy rates were dropping. It was a win-win for both the owners and the city of Aurora," CBZ wrote in a lengthy thread on X. "Then, the gangs arrived."In 2023, one of CBZ's representatives was viciously attacked when he attempted to perform an inspection at one of the properties, the company stated. When he arrived, he found "a group of men" inside a three-bedroom apartment that should have been vacated. "When he refused their $500 bribe to overlook the situation, they brutally attacked him," CBZ wrote. The company released a short surveillance video of the attack and a photograph taken shortly afterward showing the victim's injuries. In the picture, the representative's face and shirt were covered in blood, and he appeared to have bruising around his eye.Unfortunately, it did not end there for the CBZ representative, the company said. "After the attack on our CBZ representative, he began getting threatening text messages," the company continued. "These criminals revealed his home address and his spouse's name." According to CBZ, law enforcement officials confirmed that those sending the messages and occupying the complexes were TDA members. "They also mentioned that our situation was just 'a blip on the radar,' as this gang is causing significant problems nationwide," CBZ said.After effectively taking over three complexes, gang members allegedly presented CBZ with an ultimatum to split the rental income in half or "lose the buildings permanently."CBZ said it made the decision to withdraw its management team from the properties due to safety concerns."Despite the obvious crisis, several city officials refused to acknowledge the reality. Instead, they blamed us, citing 'code violations' as the reason for shutting down our property—violations we couldn't resolve for tenants who weren't even ours," CBZ wrote.The company claimed that the only violations it did not resolve were those made after the gang took over.Even after local reports surfaced of authorities arresting 10 confirmed TDA gang members with ties to the apartment takeovers, the media and local officials continued to call others' concerns overblown.On Sunday, Republican vice presidential nominee, Sen. JD Vance (Ohio), humiliated ABC News anchor Martha Raddatz for trying to downplay the severity of the situation in Aurora. According to Raddatz, former President Donald Trump's claims that TDA has taken over parts of the city have been debunked. "Do you support Donald Trump making those claims that the Republican mayor says were grossly exaggerated and have hurt the city's identity and sense of safety?" Raddatz asked Vance."Martha, you just said the mayor said they were exaggerated. That means there's got to be some element of truth here," Vance responded. Raddatz interrupted Vance's reply and stated that the TDA takeovers "were limited to a handful of apartment complexes.""Martha, do you hear yourself?!" Vance fired back. "Only a handful of apartment complexes in America were taken over by Venezuelan gangs, and Donald Trump is the problem and not Kamala Harris' open border?!" In a post on X, CBZ wrote, "Despite clear evidence, many still deny the reality of the situation, sometimes using us as scapegoats. That's why we are no longer staying silent. We will continue to counter falsehoods with simple facts and evidence.""Yes, gangs did take control of our apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado, and the government did nothing. That is the real story," it added.Cindy Romero told Fox News on Monday that the media's attempts to minimize the situation feel like "a slap in the face.""How many gangs is OK to have in Aurora? How many properties is OK to take over? How many people, who are citizens paying their bills, is it OK to displace?" Romero asked.An Aurora representative told the New York Post that CBZ's claims were "exaggerations.""These delinquent property owners, managers and/or 'investors' conveniently fail to acknowledge that their own bank lenders took them to court in the last few weeks where a judge ordered some of their problematic properties into receivership," the spokesperson stated. Sunny Hostin of "The View" blamed members of the media for not doing their part to help the presidential campaign of Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris. Hostin went on a rant accusing the media of favoring Trump while her co-hosts blankly stared back at her. She began by complaining about the coverage of Harris' lack of sit-down interviews. 'She just says out loud that it's the media's job to get a Democrat elected and no one even blinks.' "First it was, 'Kamala is not doing enough press.' Then she goes on this huge press tour. She was here! With us. I thought she was fantastic, she was energetic, the crowd went wild, it was electric," Hostin claimed. "CNN? 'Democrats go anxious.' Axios? 'Blue wall blues.' Fox? 'Dems are scared to death!' No! Dems are not scared to death. Dems are pumped!" she continued. "What I would like the press to talk a little more about is, Trump is in hiding. He didn't do the '60 Minutes' interview. He does not want to do another debate. He's in mental decline. Obama's speech was captivating in Pittsburgh, yet, instead of talking about that, we're talking about what he said before the speech to black men," Hostin added. "I think that the media has to do a much better job than what they’re doing!” she concluded. "The View is silly, but I do find it hilarious that she just says out loud that it's the media's job to get a Democrat elected and no one even blinks," responded professor Chad Ragsdale.
