George Carlin's brilliant 'whiny Boomer' rant was decades ahead of its time

"OK Boomer" is a catchphrase that has come to perfectly encapsulate the generational divide in modern American politics. It has also led to some moments of pure comedy gold. But it turns out that one of the great all-time standup comedic minds was literally decades ahead of the game when it came to dragging Boomers for selfish, hypocritical, and entitled behavior. In his 1996 stand up special "Back in Town" George Carlin devoted a glorious two minutes and twenty-seven seconds to putting Boomers in their place. "A lot of these cultural crimes I'm complaining about can be blamed on the Baby Boomers," Carlin says, beginning what would become a now legendary rant. "I'm getting tired of hearing about Boomers," Carlin continues. "Whiny, narcissistic, self-indulgent people with a simple philosophy: 'GIMME IT, IT'S MINE!' 'GIMME THAT, IT'S MINE!' These people were given everything. Everything was handed to them. And they took it all: sex, drugs, and rock and roll, and they stayed loaded for 20 years and had a free ride.""But now they're staring down the barrel of middle-age burnout, and they don't like it. So they've turned self-righteous. They want to make things harder on younger people. They tell 'em, abstain from sex, say no to drugs; as for the rock and roll, they sold that for television commercials a long time ago...so they could buy pasta machines and Stairmasters and soybean futures."Or, as one person on Reddit commented on Carlin's video: "My feeling about baby-boomers is that they were one of the first generations to really adulate and idolize the idea of youth, and youth empowerment but when they themselves reach senior ages their own ideas were working against them so they changed to demonizing youth."But Carlin wasn't done there. He says the Boomers have not only become hypocrites, they turned their own generational shift into cutthroat, corporate catchphrases that guilt and shame others who don't comport to their world view."You know something? They are cold, bloodless people," Carlin says."These people went from 'Do Your Own Thing' to 'Just Say No.' They went from 'Love is All You Need' to 'Whoever Winds Up With the Most Toys, Wins.' And they went from cocaine to Rogaine."Carlin's bit concludes in epic fashion with an all-encompassing take down that applies to, well, literally everyone. But the next time you hear a Boomer ridiculing young people or defending their own legacy, just show them this clip and remind them that Boomer criticism is something that transcends age, gender or race. Heck, even if you're from the Boomer generation, this clip is just too good to not enjoy and share. This article originally appeared on 02.20.20

School shooting survivor delivers heartbreaking performance on 'America's Got Talent'

Sometimes the best part about watching “America’s Got Talent” isn’t seeing extraordinary performances—it’s witnessing extraordinary courage. In 2022, 18-year-old Ava Swiss displayed both talent and courage with her breathtaking rendition of “Remember” by Lauren Daigle. Swiss’ vocal chops and stage presence were certainly enough to make a lasting impression. But the reason behind her song choice made it all the more impactful.“I chose this song because back on November 30, my brother and I were a part of the Oxford school shooting,” Swiss told judge Simon Cowell. “We lost four of our students, and seven others were injured, one of which was a teacher.”In an exclusive interview with People, Swiss shared that she had been close friends with 17-year-old Justin Shilling, one of the four students killed. The trauma of such loss and surviving a harrowing (though sadly, not unimaginable) experience made the thought of going back to school seem impossible. “It’s been hard. I remember my brother and I, we were talking to each other, and we said, ‘There’s no way we’re ever stepping foot back in the school,’” she told the judges. The high school senior’s audition had been filmed prior to the recent series of public shootings across America. It’s heartbreaking that these tragedies have become so common, no question. But as Swiss demonstrates, resilience can be immensely healing. Swiss added that she and her brother had been back at school for about two months … all before singing so powerfully she was met with a standing ovation.Mandel told her. “The fact that you can break through that, and shine the way you did today, is so inspirational for every human being.” This was, of course, before receiving a unanimous “yes” to move onto the next round of the competition. If the resounding praise from all four judges wasn’t enough, fellow students of Oxford High sent a flood of loving comments to the video posted on YouTube as well. One student wrote:“Hi another student from Oxford high school, this performance will stay on repeat in my head for years to come. It was extraordinary and so beautiful it gave me chills down to the bone. This was something I didn’t know I needed, it made me cry a lot but also gave me a lot of strength. I’m so proud of our community and of Ava for sharing her voice with us and the world and making our healing process a little less rough. Stay strong Oxford.”It’s not easy to get up on stage and bare your soul, especially after trauma. Swiss’ performance was a big win before she hit a single note. Alliance Of The End?: The President Of Turkey Asks Russia, Syria And Iran To Unite Against Israel

War is in the air, and we are seeing some very interesting alliances form.  As you will see below, the Russians and the Chinese continue to strengthen ties with one another, and this is something that I have been anticipating for many years.  Meanwhile, the president of Turkey is calling for a very alarming alliance of military powers in the Middle East.  On Saturday, he told the press that he is urging “Russia, Iran and Syria” to form a united front to protect “Syria’s territorial integrity”… Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoǧan told local media on Saturday that Russia, Iran and Syria should do more to protect Syria’s “territorial integrity.” “It is essential that Russia, Iran and Syria take more effective measures against this situation, which poses the greatest threat to Syria’s territorial integrity,” Erdoǧan said when asked about the recent alleged Israeli airstrike in the nation’s capital, Damascus. Obviously Iran and Syria are already working very closely together. But we shall see what Russia and Turkey decide to do. The Russians definitely have their hands full with Ukraine, and so they don’t really have resources to spare for a war in the Middle East. And Turkey is a member of NATO, and that status would certainly be jeopardized if Erdogan decided to jump into this conflict. But as for Iran and Syria, they are already essentially at war with Israel. The IDF is constantly bombing targets inside Syria, and the Iranians recently launched about 200 missiles into Israel. Now we are waiting for the Israeli response, and Iran has already told the Biden administration that it will respond in kind to any Israeli attack… Iran has informed the United States that it will retaliate against any new attack by Israel, a source in Tehran told CNN. Iran’s government has also been engaging in urgent diplomatic efforts with countries in the Middle East to gauge whether it can reduce the scale of Israel’s response to its missile attack earlier this month and — if that fails — help protect the capital, sources say. Nobody is backing down this time. The final showdown between Israel and Iran has arrived, but both sides don’t seem to fully realize this yet. Meanwhile, the IDF continues to bomb the living daylights out of Hezbollah targets all over Lebanon… Israel expanded its targets in its war with Hezbollah militants in Lebanon on Monday, killing at least 21 people in an airstrike in the north, health officials said, while millions of Israelis took shelter from projectiles fired back across the border. So far the main focus of Israel’s military operations in Lebanon has been in the south, the Bekaa Valley in the east and the suburbs of Beirut. I am expecting some really big escalations in the coming days. But for the moment we are still waiting for the next big shoe to drop. At the same time, the Russians and the Chinese just continue to develop closer ties with one another… Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov arrived in Beijing Monday for talks with his Chinese counterpart, who called for strengthening military cooperation between the two countries. Moscow and Beijing have forged closer ties since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, an alliance that has sparked anxiety in the West as both countries seek to expand their global influence. How many years have I been warning about a very strong alliance between Russia and China? This is precisely what we have been anticipating, but very few people in the western world seem to be alarmed about what is happening. Despite all of the money that we have poured into Ukraine, the Russians are winning that war. At this point, the Ukrainians are so desperate for manpower that they are literally dragging young men out of restaurants, clubs and bars in front of everyone… Ukraine’s military recruiters have launched targeted raids in Kyiv, detaining those whose documents do not comply and press-ganging them into the army. Video footage captured the moment two men were dragged away by officers as they exited the Palace of Sports on Friday where Ukrainian rock band Okean Elzy played. One concertgoer could be seen struggling and shouting ‘Get away from me!’ at three policemen as they pulled him towards the recruitment desk set up outside the venue. A series of raids were carried out at restaurants, clubs, bars and a concert hall in the capital city, according to reports. Of course the Ukrainians have been quietly doing this sort of thing for a long time, but now they aren’t even trying to hide it anymore. On the other side of the world, the Chinese just surrounded Taiwan with warships and fighter jets… On Monday China has launched large military drills encircling the self-governing island of Taiwan, which Taipei has blasted as an “unreasonable provocation”. China’s PLA military deployed warships and fighter jets to send a “stern warning” against “separatist acts of Taiwan independence forces”. The PLA Eastern Theater Command deployed joint operations of the army, navy, air force and rocket force. These assets have been largely concentrated in the Taiwan Strait, as well as surrounding Taiwan. “The joint drills focused on sea and air combat readiness, blockading key Taiwanese ports and areas, and assaults on maritime and ground targets,” described the eastern theatre command’s spokesperson, senior captain Li Xi. The good news is that this was just a military exercise. The Chinese are practicing for a future blockade of Taiwan, and just before the military exercise commenced a video was released that boldly declared that the Chinese military is “prepared for battle at all times and can fight anytime”… Just before these fresh drills, China’s military issued and circulated a propaganda video entitled “prepared for battle” on vairous social media accounts. The about one-minute video features fighter jets, warships and amphibious assault vessels taking to the air and sea near Taiwan. Mobile rocket launchers are also seen being maneuvered and made ready for attacks. Text associated with the video said Chinese forces are “prepared for battle at all times and can fight anytime.” A blockade will probably be the very first step that the Chinese take when they decide that it is time to forcibly “reunite” with Taiwan. And the moment that they establish such a blockade, the U.S. and China will be at war. Sadly, that could happen a lot sooner than most people think. Like I said at the beginning of this article, war is in the air. We are so close to the unthinkable, and our window of opportunity to avoid a global nightmare is rapidly closing. Although the law was enacted to prevent foreign espionage and sabotage in wartime, it can be — and has been — wielded against immigrants who have done nothing wrong, have evinced no signs of disloyalty, and are lawfully present in the United States. German City Tells Residents To Strike Up A Conversation With Criminal Migrants And Encourage Them To Stop Committing Crimes  Police in the Kiel, Germany, are struggling to keep up with the criminal activity of a small group of migrants who have sent the community in turmoil. In response to the concerns of citizens, the town’s council has told people to “talk to” the migrants and encourage them not to commit crimes. The 30 migrants are primarily of Roma heritage, are largely illiterate, and are reportedly only able to speak Turkish. They arrived in the community as refugees from Ukraine along with a number of ethnic Ukrainians. But out of all of the refugees accommodated in the Kiel district of Wik, the group of 30 non-Ukrainians are the only ones causing problems. Everything about them is new: the shotgun, the gear, the clothing. They look like they’ve just stepped out of an LL Bean catalog. This isn’t meant as a criticism. But if you’re leading the hunt it’s a visual clue that he’s probably new to this and, in his excitement, he went to his local hunting store bought all the gear in an effort to look like one of the guys. It tells you to keep an eye on him and to be ready to offer quiet instruction so as not to embarrass him. I don’t fault Walz for clearly being inexperienced with firearms and hunting. Anyone who is proficient in either had to learn sometime. For most of us, I think, the scorn heaped upon him is due to the fraudulent nature of it all. What VP candidate takes a day off to go hunting? Well, they don’t unless they see it as a photo op. Dems realize Americans think Walz is a beta male weirdo, so some campaign genius said, “I got it! He’ll go hunting! He’ll look manly!” With the exception of “The Natural,” I generally hate sports movies because the lead actor usually looks like he’s never played sports in his life. Watching Walz handle a shotgun is like watching Keanu Reeves throw a football in “ The Replacements.” It’s painful. (Robert Redford was believable as an aging baseball player because he clearly played the game as a boy. Same with Kevin Costner in “For the Love of the Game.”) In this video, Walz appears to be having difficulty loading his shotgun while on a pheasant hunt. He tells the reporter, whose questioning tone suggests she’s not buying any of this, that it’s a Beretta A400. The A400 is a semi-auto shotgun. Many guides don’t allow semi-autos on a hunt because they can’t see at a distance that you’re “safe.” A break-action double-barrel is therefore preferred since they can tell when your gun cannot be fired (be it loaded or not). This is because the barrel is on a hinge that “breaks” open to permit manual loading. And this is very important for safety. I would wager that most accidental shotgun deaths involve semi-autos. This is all the more important in pheasant hunting. Unlike, say, deer hunting where you might sit in a tree all day long by yourself, pheasant hunting is typically done in large groups where the hunters are arranged in a crescent and marched through a field toward “blockers,” that is, hunters who stand still in a line. The idea is to drive the birds into the blockers and force them to flight. Hunting in such close proximity with other hunters can be dangerous for a variety of reasons: the birds fly parallel to the ground at head level, excitable hunters start blasting away at everything that moves or don’t wait for the birds to reach a safe height, accidental discharges, etc. A guide wants to see that your weapon is open and therefore inoperable in all but the hunt. The loading port on the A400 is beneath the weapon near the trigger guard. This type of loading is an acquired skill, and Walz doesn’t have it. (I’ll add that Walz says he bought it for trap shooting. In this he is correct. I wouldn’t want to use an A400 pheasant hunting. It’s not a field gun. It’s heavy. But it’s excellent for clays.) He fumbles around and, sensing he’s making a fool of himself, he appears to stop before he’s managed to get it loaded. As you can see, this carefully choreographed hunt wasn’t so carefully choreographed. It’s become Tim Walz’s Michael Dukakis-in-the-tank moment. It’s also noteworthy that in this gaffe Democrats, for all their faux rage about “toxic masculinity,” unwittingly pay homage to masculinity and its appeal. They do know what it is. They just don’t know how to practice it. In case you’re still wondering if this “hunt” was nothing but a pathetic and phony photo op, Tampon Tim’s handlers mic’d him up and made this production quality video that makes it look like he shot his gun — Even though he did not in fact shoot his gun. https://t.co/q6wO3w82mw pic.twitter.com/BJ3aMQNiPa — Trump War Room (@TrumpWarRoom) October 14, 2024 I wonder what changed pic.twitter.com/0u5Ln2nhcA — Defiant L’s (@DefiantLs) October 12, 2024 Time Magazine Owner Calls Out Kamala Harris for Turning Down Interview Requests Despite multiple requests, TIME has not been granted an interview with Kamala Harris—unlike every other Presidential candidate. Miller’s arrest came after law enforcement found a shotgun, a handgun, and a high-capacity magazine in his vehicle, along with what authorities initially claimed were counterfeit VIP and press passes for Trump’s rally. He was released on $5,000 bail and now faces misdemeanor charges for possession of illegal firearms. Despite these charges, Miller insists the incident has been blown wildly out of proportion. He claims that his possession of firearms was purely legal and registered, and he was merely exercising his Second Amendment rights.  , Miller asserts he had been invited to the rally and had legitimate special entry passes issued by the Republican Party of Nevada. During Trump’s first assassination attempt, Miller posted on his Instagram account, ” I am willing to fight non stop with everything I have for the next 4 years to help this country and this man. We need to break the DS.” He explained that at every Trump rally he’s attended in Nevada, he’s made law enforcement aware of his legally owned firearms, and it’s never been an issue. Miller believes his “critical mistake” was forgetting that he was in California, a state notorious for its strict gun laws, compared to more Second Amendment-friendly states like Nevada. Miller also addressed the claim that he had counterfeit passes: “That’s complete nonsense,” he said. “I can prove I had a special entry pass sent directly to me by officials within the Republican Party of Nevada. I was an actual invitee to that event. As I approached, there was an area where you enter the parking lot after passing a sheriff. I pulled up to the sheriff. Actually, I should take that back; I’m not 100% sure he was a sheriff. He was wearing a sheriff vest, but many of them were. My assumption is that not everyone there was a sheriff,” he added. Video: watch us make this Recipe Why This Recipe Stands Out This Pumpkin Bread Pudding is like a deliciously sweet baked French toast, and it’s one of our favorite fall dessert recipes. Here’s why you’ll love this recipe: Make Ahead Friendly: This pumpkin bread pudding make-ahead, like a French Toast Bake, except it’s made with the fall season in mind. Warm Caramel Flavor The warm, toffee-like caramel sauce adds an extra layer of deliciousness to this pumpkin bread pudding that takes it to the next level! Super Easy Prep: The recipe uses simple, easy-to-find ingredients, many of which you probably already have in your pantry, just like our Pumpkin Pie and Pumpkin Cheesecake. Feeds a Crowd: This is the perfect dish to bring to a gathering, as it’s one of the best pumpkin recipes for a crowd. Doubles as Breakfast or Brunch: This pumpkin bread pudding can be served for breakfast, brunch, or dessert. Key Recipe Ingredients French Bread Loaf – Using French bread in this recipe gives it a sturdy, slightly chewy texture that holds up well to the custard. Pure Pumpkin – A whole can of pure pumpkin adds a rich, earthy flavor and a velvety texture to the pudding. Dark Brown Sugar – We use dark brown sugar, which has a higher molasses content, for a deeper, more caramel-like flavor. Pumpkin Pie Spice and Ground Cinnamon – These warm spices complement the pumpkin and give the pudding its cozy, fall flavor. Toasted Chopped Pecans – These add a lovely crunch and a toasty, nutty flavor to the pudding. Substitutions And Variations Here are some of our favorite variations and substitutions: Bread: We use French loaf for this recipe, but you can also use an Italian loaf, challah, brioche, or even cinnamon-raisin bread. Add-Ins: Feel free to vary the add-ins with chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, or roasted pumpkin seeds. You can also omit any add-ins at all. Topping: This gooey caramel sauce is the perfect finishing touch, but feel free to serve this bread pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of stabilized whipped cream instead. Step-By-Step Recipe Instructions In a large bowl, whisk together half and half, pumpkin, brown sugar, eggs, spices, and vanilla. Fold in the bread cubes and transfer the mixture to the lightly greased baking dish. Sprinkle cranberries and pecans on top and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then, bake for 40 minutes in a preheated oven at 350°F For the caramel sauce, whisk together brown sugar and butter in a saucepan. Once the butter melts, whisk in the cream and stir until the sugar dissolves. Pour the warm sauce over the warm bread pudding and serve. For full list of ingredients and instructions, see recipe card below. How To Prep Ahead Take a look at our best prep-ahead tips for this recipe: Make the Caramel Sauce: You can make the caramel sauce several days ahead of time. Store it in an airtight container in the fridge. When you’re ready to serve the bread pudding, reheat the sauce and drizzle it over the warm bread pudding. Prepare the Night Before: You can also prepare the entire bread pudding the night before. Follow the recipe instructions prior to baking. Cover and chill overnight. Take it out to rest at room temperature while you preheat the oven the next day. Use any of your favorite add-ins. Here, we added dried cranberries and toasted pecans for extra flavor and crunch. Commonly Asked Questions What type of bread is best for bread pudding? Transfer mixture to a lightly greased 9×11 glass baking dish.Sprinkle cranberries and pecans over the top evenly, if using. Let stand at least 15 minutes to allow bread to soak. Video Notes Pumpkin Bread Pudding is a great way to use up stale bread. However, if your bread is very fresh, you can cube it and let it sit out for a few hours to dry. This will help the bread soak up the pumpkin custard better. Pumpkin Scones – Super Moist!

These Pumpkin Scones are different – they’re not dry and crumbly at all. Instead, these are super tender and are packed with fall flavors. This scone will rival famous bakery versions, and the spice glaze is absolutely to die for! These Pumpkin Scones drizzled with luscious spice glaze are so much better than the average scone. In This Article Video: watch us make this RecipeWhy This Recipe Stands OutKey Recipe IngredientsSubstitutions And VariationsStep-By-Step Recipe InstructionsHow To Prep AheadCommonly Asked QuestionsPumpkin Scones - Super Moist! RecipeMore to Bake And Eat View more This post may contain affiliate links, at no additional cost to you. Video: watch us make this Recipe Why This Recipe Stands Out Because many people don’t like scones due to their dry/crumbly texture, I set out to create scones that are quite the opposite. These pumpkin scones are outstandingly tender and perfect for fall. They’re one of our favorite pumpkin recipes, and here’s why: Supremely Moist: These scones are incredibly moist, a quality you don’t often find in scones. They’re Actually Easy: While scones might sound intimidating to make, they’re actually super easy. If you love these, you’ll also love Triple Pumpkin Scones with Cream Cheese Icing. Packed with Flavor: We’ve packed these scones with all the best fall spices including cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice, giving them a flavor that can’t be beat, just like our Pumpkin Spice Cookies. Delicious Glaze: The spiced glaze is the perfect finishing touch for these scones, taking them from great to absolutely incredible. Key Recipe Ingredients Pumpkin Puree – We use canned pure pumpkin for its unbeatable moistness and earthy flavor. You can also use your own homemade pumpkin puree. Spices – Ground cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice add a depth of flavor that perfectly complements the pumpkin. Butter – We use cold butter, cut into pieces, to ensure that our scones are tender and flaky. The small pockets of butter in the dough release steam as they bake, resulting in a light, airy texture. Mix-ins – Cinnamon chips and white chocolate chips add bursts of flavor and a touch of sweetness to our scones. You can find cinnamon chips in the baking aisle of most grocery stores. Substitutions And Variations Take a look at some of our favorite substitutions and variations: Chocolate Chips: If you can’t find seasonal cinnamon baking chips, you can use extra white chocolate chips or substitute them with semi-sweet chocolate chips, as in our Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread. More Spices: If you like your scones with extra spices, feel free to increase the amounts of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and allspice. You can also add a pinch of cloves for a more intense flavor. Pumpkin Seeds: For a bit of crunch and extra seasonal flavor, add 1/4 cup pepitas (salt, roasted pumpkin seeds) to the dough. Glaze: The spice glaze is optional, but highly recommended. Feel free to adjust the spices to your liking. You can also use this Sugar Cookie Icing instead. Step-By-Step Recipe Instructions In a large bowl, whisk together dry ingredients. Work in cold butter until the mixture is crumbly. Stir in cinnamon and white chocolate chips. In a separate bowl, whisk together pumpkin and eggs. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir until the dough holds together. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. Divide the chilled dough in half and form each half into a 6-inch circle, about 3/4 inches thick. Slice each circle into 6 wedges. Brush each wedge with milk and sprinkle with coarse sugar and cinnamon. Place the plates in the freezer for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 425F. Transfer the parchment paper with scone wedges onto a baking sheet. Bake for 18-19 minutes. Make the spiced glaze by mixing all the glaze ingredients together. Drizzle scones with the spiced glaze and serve warm. For full list of ingredients and instructions, see recipe card below. How To Prep Ahead Take a look at our favorite prep ahead tips and strategies for these pumpkin scones: Make the Dough in Advance: The scone dough can be made ahead of time. Follow the recipe instructions to make the dough, wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate. You can do this a day in advance. Make the Glaze Beforehand: The spiced glaze can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. Freeze the Shaped Scones: Once you’ve shaped the scone dough into wedges and brushed them with milk, you can freeze them for up to 2 months. This is a great way to have scone dough ready to bake whenever you want. Just make sure to bake longer if you’re baking the scones from frozen. These Pumpkin Scones are moist on the inside and packed with fall spices, giving them a delightful holiday flavor. Commonly Asked Questions Can I use fresh pumpkin instead of canned pumpkin? Yes, you can use fresh pumpkin puree if you prefer. Just make sure it’s well-drained and has a similar consistency to canned pumpkin. You may need to adjust the amount slightly to achieve the right texture in your scone dough. Why do I need to chill the dough? Chilling the dough is important for two reasons. First, it allows the flavors to meld and develop. Second, it firms up the butter in the dough, which leads to a better texture and rise during baking. How do I know when the scones are done? The scones are done when they are golden on top and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean. You may have a few tender crumbs attached, which is perfect. How long do the scones keep? These pumpkin scones will keep well for a day or two at room temperature. Be sure to store them in an airtight container to maintain their freshness. Print Pumpkin Scones – Super Moist! These tender pumpkin scones boast a moist crumb and big fall flavors. These pumpkin scones rival famous bakery versions; the spice glaze is fantastic. If dough is sticky, just scrape it into a ball and wrap with cling wrap. Place in fridge for at least 30 minutes or until dough is cold enough to be workable.Line two plates with squares of parchment paper (parchment should extend past the plate) and sprinkle some flour on parchment. Divide dough in half and place each half on a separate plate.  Pat each half into a 6 inch circle, about 3/4 inches thick each.Carefully slice each circle into 6 wedges.  Separate wedges so there is at least 1/2 inch space between them.  Brush each wedge with milk and sprinkle with coarse sugar/cinnamon.Place the plates into freezer for 30 minutes, which helps the texture and rise.  White scones are chilling, preheat oven to 425F.Transfer parchment paper with scone wedges onto baking sheet.  Bake scones 18-19 minutes on lower middle rack, watching to make sure they don't over bake. Once they are golden on top and a toothpick comes out mostly clean (a few tender crumbs are fine.)  The edges should look baked, not wet or doughy. While scones are baking, make Spiced Glaze.  Mix together all glaze ingredients and whisk to incorporate well.Remove scones from oven and cool a bit.  Drizzle with spiced glaze and serve warm.  Wrap any leftovers in airtight container and keep at room temp.  Do not put in fridge.  Glazed scones keep well for a day or two. This helps maintain their shape and rise beautifully in the oven. Preheat the oven to 425F while your scones are chilling. This way, they can go straight from the freezer to the oven. If you can’t find seasonal cinnamon baking chips, you can use extra white chocolate chips or substitute them with semi-sweet chocolate chips. For a bit of crunch and extra seasonal flavor, add 1/4 cup pepitas (salted, roasted pumpkin seeds) to the dough.  This recipe is part of our fall recipes collection.     If you enjoyed this recipe, please come back and give it a rating. Pumpkin Churros

This Pumpkin Churros recipe is inspired by an interview I had with Bobby Flay. Just in time for fall, these mini churros pack a punch of fresh pumpkin puree and pumpkin spice the entire family will devour. We’re loving these Mini Pumpkin Churros as a fresh addition to our favorite fall treats! Why This Recipe Stands Out After a phone conference with a small circle of food bloggers and Bobby Flay years ago, I instantly ran off to make his recipe for Pumpkin Churros. Needless to say, these pumpkin churros were an instant hit: Perfect Autumn Treat: This is so delicious, this recipe made it into favorite Fall Pumpkin Recipes. Great for Parties: This recipe makes 32 mini churros – perfect for any fall party or Halloween party! Crispy and Tender: Pumpkin Churros are crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. The cinnamon/sugar coating makes this the dessert-version of a hot bowl of soup on crisp fall days. Fun to Make and Serve: Just like these Pumpkin Pasties, Pumpkin Churros are super fun to make. They’re great for getting the kids in the kitchen! What Are Churros? Churros are doughnut sticks piped from a bag with a star-shaped tip and rolled in cinnamon and sugar. Yum! These festive treats were adopted from Central and South American countries, most likely originating in Spain. Traditional churros are usually made with an ooey-gooey chocolate or Dulce de Leche filling, but we like to simplify things by keeping the churros filling-free and using a variety of dips instead. Key Recipe Ingredients Churro Coating – The tried-and-true mixture of cinnamon and sugar is all it takes. Pumpkin Spice – Ground cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg are mixed together and added to the churro batter. Pumpkin Puree – Make sure to grab 100% pure pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling, as the pie filling has extra sugar and spices added that we don’t need. Butter – Unsalted butter plays a huge role in making pumpkin churros melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Frying Oil – Reach for a neutral-tasting oil with a high smoke point like canola or vegetable oil to fry these mini churros. Substitutions And Variations Our favorite way to tweak the flavors of Pumpkin Churros is whipping up tons of dipping sauces: Coffee Dipping Sauce: Here’s an indulgent Chocolate-Coffee Dipping Sauce recipe that elevates these Pumpkin Churros to the next level. Salted Caramel Sauce: Try serving this 4-Ingredient Salted Caramel Sauce with Pumpkin Churros. It’s the perfect texture for dipping! Hot Fudge Sauce: Another rich, chocolatey sauce we love dipping these goodies in, is this Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce. Pumpkin Cream Cheese Dip: Want even more pumpkin? Try whipping together this sweet and tangy Pumpkin Cream Cheese Dip. Churro Shapes: This one’s for the experienced churro makers out there. Try piping churros into fun shapes like ghosts, pumpkins, or bats. Step-By-Step Recipe Instructions Mix cinnamon and sugar together for the churro coating; sprinkle onto a large baking sheet. In a large bowl, mix together all dry ingredients for the churros. Bring 1 1/2 cups water, pumpkin puree, butter and vanilla to a boil in a saucepan. Whisk continuously. Pour pumpkin mixture into dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Add in eggs – one at a time – and continue mixing until well-combined. Place dough into pastry bag with a large star tip. Pipe dough in 3-inch sections into a high-sided pan with 2 inches of oil at 350F. Cook churros for 3-4 minutes, and transfer to a paper towel-lined baking sheet before rolling warm churros in coating. Serve warm and enjoy! For full list of ingredients and instructions, see recipe card below. How To Prep Ahead While Pumpkin Churros are best enjoyed warm, there are a few key tips for preparing ingredients ahead of time: Combine Coating Ingredients: The cinnamon-sugar coating can be mixed several days in advance and stored in an airtight container. You can even make extra to sprinkle on anything! Mix Dry Ingredients: Feel free to measure and mix all dry ingredients ahead of time. Pipe Ahead of Time: If you’re piping shapes, we recommend piping each batch ahead of time onto a little square of wax paper, so you can plop them all in at once. Commonly Asked Questions What is the best way to store and reheat pumpkin churros? We generally recommend enjoying churros fresh, as they can get soft the longer they sit. But you can chill churros in the fridge for up to 3 days and in the freezer for up to 2 months. One trick to get the crisp back when reheating churros is to use an air fryer or a toaster oven. Just set the toaster oven to 350F and heat churros for 5+ minutes until heated through, or set the air fryer to 350F and heat churros for up to 5 minutes. How to ensure perfectly cooked churros? The secret to perfectly cooked churros lies in the temperature of your frying oil. It’s always a good idea to use a food thermometer with the oil. You’ll want it to stay right around 350F. Too cold, and your churros will end up soggy and oily. Too hot, and they’ll end up crisp on the outside, but raw on the inside. How can I tell when my pumpkin churros are done? With the right oil temperature, you’ll know your churros are done when they turn completely golden and crisp on the outside. This usually takes 3-4 minutes. Why aren’t my churros turning crispy even though my oil’s the right temperature? If your oil’s the right temp and your churros are still not turning out crispy, it may be caused by overcrowding. You want to make sure that the churros have enough space to really crisp up. Try making smaller batches, and see if this helps! Why isn’t my churro coating sticking? We’ve learned that coating won’t stick to churros (or any doughnut) unless you roll them when they’re still warm. Try rolling them as soon as possible after letting them drain in paper towels. A nice set of tongs helps with this. Print Pumpkin Churros These pumpkin churros are the most fun treat to make in fall. It's the perfect afternoon or weekend treat for grown-ups and kids alike! Transfer mixture to a large baking sheet. Set aside.Make the ChurrosWhisk together the flour, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg and salt in a large bowl. Bring 1 1/2 cups water, the pumpkin puree, butter and vanilla to a boil in a medium saucepan, whisking constantly.Pour the pumpkin mixture into the bowl with the flour mixture and stir with a wooden spoon until just combined; it will be thick. Continue mixing and add in your eggs, one at a time, until well combined. The dough should be thick and smooth, able to cling to spoon. If your dough is too runny, add more flour until it reaches a thick pudding consistency. Place the dough into a pastry bag with a large star tip.Heat 2 inches of oil in a high-sided large pan until it reaches 350F on a thermometer.Pipe the dough directly into the pan in 3-inch pieces, cutting off the pieces with a scissor. Fry until golden and crispy, turning as needed, about 3-4 min. (This part takes a bit of practice, but if you don’t mind a few curvy-looking churros, you’re all set!)Transfer the churros to a paper-towel-lined baking sheet to drain the oil. Transfer drained churros to baking sheet with the cinnamon-sugar mixture, tossing to coat well.Serve immediately, while still crispy and warm. Notes Pro Tip: The oil will cool slightly after every batch of churros. After removing all the churros, give the oil a minute to heat back up to temp before piping in your next batch. Make sure to have a food thermometer handy for the oil. It’s crucial that it stays close to 350F for the churros to cook right. Serve Mini Pumpkin Churros with 4-Ingredient Salted Caramel Sauce or Pumpkin Cream Cheese Dip. Have fun with it! It took us a little time and a few wonky churros to get the hang of it, but we just roll with it and enjoy the process.   If you enjoyed this recipe, please come back and give it a rating.
