The Government Is Building a Censorship Industrial Complex

The Censorship Industrial Complex continues to crush opponents. It’s vast, manipulative, and evil. It is tyranny. The government and its allies in the media made social media into their propaganda machines. The government’s censorship industrial complex has silenced our voices at every turn. And it’s not JUST Google. It’s that the general censorship industrial complex PRIVILEGES […] The post The Government Is Building a Censorship Industrial Complex appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

11 Members Of NC Family Found Dead In Helene Destruction

A family in North Carolina is devastated after 11 of their loved ones were killed by a mudslide caused by the flooding from Hurricane Helene. The Craig family — whose ancestors first settled in Fairview, North Carolina, in the 1950s — was so well-known to locals that they nicknamed their group of neighboring homes “Craigtown,” ABC 11 reported. The family’s life in Fairview changed forever at the end of September when Hurricane Helene brought catastrophic flooding to the southeast U.S. Several of the Craig family members who lived next to each other were in the direct path of a deadly mudslide caused by the flooding, according to ABC 11. Everyone who was in the homes at the time of the mudslide was killed. “My mother and father, my aunt and uncle, my great aunt and uncle — I’ve lost cousins, second cousins, things like that, but 11 people overall from this mudslide,” said Jesse Craig. Jesse’s grandfather was the first Craig to move to Fairview when he bought land in the 1950s, and since that time, much of the Craig family has lived in Fairview. “I haven’t been able to process it yet. It’s still — it’s not new because it feels like it’s been forever; I don’t even know what day it is,” Jesse’s wife MeKenzie said. “We’ll never make sense of it. You know, it’s our community and our town. I don’t — I don’t know that it’ll ever be the same,” MeKenzie added. “It’s been that life-altering a situation.” Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! A GoFundMe was started for the surviving members of the Craig family to help pay for funeral costs, medical expenses, clean up, and construction. As of Thursday night, the GoFundMe has raised $127,748. “We are personal friends of the Craig family and wanted to support them by putting this together to help them with whatever needs they currently have and will have in the coming weeks/months,” the GoFundMe states. More than 230 people have been found dead across the southeast following Hurricane Helene. In Buncombe County, North Carolina, where Fairview is located, 72 people were killed in the storm, according to Sheriff Quentin Miller. Authorities in North Carolina continue to search for those who have been missing since Helene hit the state, but they cannot confirm exactly how many people are missing.

A “Ride-Out” Team Braved Hurricane Milton To Keep The 1K Animals At Tampa Zoo Safe

Millions of Floridians spent days preparing for Hurricane Milton. They secured their homes and belongings, and many fled to safety in other states. Severe weather not only hurts people. It also affects the lives of animals. The staff and ZooTampa at Lowry Park take their jobs at the zoo seriously and give tremendous care to the animals there. They closed the doors on October 8 and began preparing for the worst-case scenario. The zoo moved larger animals into its night house and “smaller mammals and birds into ancillary buildings.”  Employees move an African porcupine named Chompers to a pet carrier at Zoo Tampa ahead of Hurricane Milton(Photo by Bryan R. They make sure they are OK and the facility remains safe. The zoo earned a “Storm Ready certification” from the National Weather Service, which states that ZooTampa is equipped “to effectively safeguard its guests, staff, animals, and property during extreme weather events.” African elephants are seen before being moved to protected areas at Zoo Tampa ahead of Hurricane Milton’s expected landfall (Photo by BRYAN R. Their initial reports indicate that the Zoo sustained some damage due to the high winds associated with the storm and is currently without power. All 1,000 animals entrusted in our care are safe and will remain in their night houses and hurricane shelter locations. The team will continue to conduct a thorough safety assessment and, once roads are safe to travel, the recovery team will begin clean up and restoration efforts.” The zoo plans to reopen once everything is safe for animals and guests.   This story’s featured image is by BRYAN R. Walz Makes ‘Knucklehead’ Suggestion to Abolish Electoral College. Here’s Why We Should Keep It.

Walz Makes ‘Knucklehead’ Suggestion to Abolish Electoral College. Here’s Why We Should Keep It.

The polls must be looking bad for Democrats because they appear to be restarting their campaign to abolish the Electoral College. A few left-wing journalists have whined about the Electoral College during the presidential campaign this year. But now Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, finally has decided to publicly air his grievance against the way we choose presidents. “I think all of us know the Electoral College needs to go. We need, we need national popular vote, but that’s not the world we live in,” Walz said Tuesday at a fundraiser with California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Is there any part of our constitutional system Democrats like? In just the past few months we’ve had Walz trash the Electoral College, the Biden-Harris administration threaten to pack the Supreme Court, and former Secretary of State John Kerry grumble about the existence of the First Amendment. I’ve written extensively over the years about the Electoral College and why it works so well for the United States. Here’s a quick summary: The Electoral College is an integral, time-tested system of selecting American presidents. It preserves the federal nature of our system while not being wholly undemocratic. It’s one of the cornerstones of our remarkably stable republic. Every state relies on a popular vote to determine who wins their electors, and each has done so since the early 19th century.  The states are free to allocate the votes or award them in a winner-take-all system. Most have chosen the latter because that approach is slightly more appealing to presidential candidates. But that’s not set in stone. By allocating presidential votes by combining the number of a state’s congressional representatives and the number of senators, the Electoral College ensures that the states with the largest population have the most votes. But that voting power is somewhat limited. It means that candidates still have to win over voters in small states and can’t focus only on the most populous ones. Our presidential elections are therefore more likely to reflect the diverse viewpoints of this country and not just the highly populated urban areas. There is no reason to think that switching to a national popular vote would be better for America, nor have proponents of abolishing the Electoral College ever really made the argument that it would.  They’ve always just gone with buzzwords about the popular vote being more “democratic,” but it’s clear that what they care about most is that the popular vote leads to more Democrats being elected. No surprise there. However, getting rid of the Electoral College wouldn’t just be bad for Republicans—after all, there are plenty of small blue states too—it would be bad for the country. In some ways it’s fitting that Walz decided to bash the Electoral College in California. Most Americans don’t want a one-party state with one of the sloppiest election systems in the country to have all the say in picking our presidents. Also, it’s not a great sign for a presidential campaign when it complains about rules that have been in effect for two centuries on the figurative eve of the Nov. 5 election. That’s like a football team whining about touchdowns being the primary way of scoring before a championship football game. The Harris-Walz campaign probably realized this. “Gov. Walz believes that every vote matters in the Electoral College and he is honored to be traveling the country and battleground states working to earn support for the Harris-Walz ticket,” a spokesman for the campaign told Politico. “He was commenting to a crowd of strong supporters about how the campaign is built to win 270 electoral votes.” I’ll translate the PR-speak for you: The Harris-Walz campaign is saying that Walz was just being a “knucklehead” again, so pay no attention to what he just said to donors. I don’t find the backtracking to be convincing. For years, prominent Democrats and left-wing organizations have been trying to abolish the Electoral College. Their efforts become more fervent, of course, when they lose an election or think they will lose one. Walz clearly wants to abolish the Electoral College, regardless of what the campaign says. The Minnesota governor signed legislation last year that would tie his state’s Electoral College votes to the national popular vote.  The so-called National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is almost certainly unconstitutional, but that didn’t stop Walz from signing the bill. Frankly, it’s shameful that he did so. The attacks on the Electoral College are an irresponsible, short-sighted attempt to accrue partisan power. If Walz and his political allies want to get rid of it, they would have to pass a constitutional amendment. They know that won’t happen, so they are instead trying to undermine the system’s legitimacy in the minds of the American people. Star Surfer Bethany Hamilton to Speak at March for Life

World-famous surfer Bethany Hamilton will deliver the keynote speech at the March for Life in January, the organization’s president announced Thursday.  Jeanne Mancini announced Hamilton’s appearance during a briefing by the March for Life Education and Defense Fund, saying the evangelical Christian surfer will speak Jan. 24 at the annual pro-life rally on the National Mall as well as at the Rose Dinner Gala.  The March for Life is thrilled to announce our keynote speaker for the 2025 March for Life Rally and Rose Dinner: Bethany Hamilton! At the age of 13 as a rising surf star, Bethany lost her left arm to a 14-foot tiger shark, which seemed to end her dream career. But one month… pic.twitter.com/29CvqkxUMA— March for Life (@March_for_Life) October 10, 2024 “We have had some national athletes before, more football players, so this is the first time we will be having a female athlete speak at the March for Life,” Mancini said. “Even just that will be incredible.”   Hamilton will speak between noon and 1:30 p.m., just after a concert in the same space by the Christian rock band Unspoken.  Past speakers at the March for Life include athletes such as the Baltimore Ravens’ Matt Birk and former NFL player Benjamin Watson.   Mancini said the March for Life had been seeking to book Hamilton as a speaker for “many, many years” and organizers are “delighted” to have her now.   “She’s very pro-life, a mother of three, and is very committed to this cause,” Mancini said. “So we’re delighted to bring her to the stage this year. She and her family are coming all the way from Hawaii.”   Hamilton lost her left arm in a shark attack at age 13 while a rising surf star, as documented on her website. She is still a professional surfer.  A popular movie, “Soul Surfer,” was made about her life starring Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, and Kevin Sorbo. AnnaSophia Robb played Hamilton.  The Christian surfer refused to compete in the World Surf League in 2023 due to the league’s decision to allow men to compete in women’s sports, The Daily Signal reported.   Jackie Kane, executive vice president of March for Life, said that having Hamilton speak could bring more young women into the pro-life movement. But, she said, Hamilton also “speaks more broadly to the movement as a whole,” including older generations.   “I know she is very popular with the younger generation, with my kids, and we’re thrilled to have her joining us for that reason,” Kane told The Daily Signal. “But also because I think she speaks more broadly to the movement as a whole because of her story of embracing her own challenges and her own dignity and worth and ability to achieve greatness, despite any obstacles in the way.”  “She has a natural testimony that provides her own witness to human dignity and then her family,” Kane added.  Kane told The Daily Signal that the event organizers seek to engage more young Americans, but that Hamiton speaks to others too.   “I think that as a mother and as somebody who has been a part of these movies that all the younger women watch … she’s going to speak to the middle generation and the older generations as well,” Kane said of Hamilton. “I think she’s going to have a broad reach.”   Also during the briefing, the March for Life Education and Defense Fund announced that the theme for the 52nd annual  event will be “Every Life: Why We March.”   Mancini described the theme as “returning to the basics” and said the social media hashtag for the event, #WhyWeMarch, was designed to encourage people to tell their stories.   “Why do you march? Why are you pro-life?” Mancini said. “That’s really the question underneath, and the personal stories are very moving.”   March for Life 2025 ThemeEvery Life: Why We March pic.twitter.com/chjisypOBQ— March for Life (@March_for_Life) October 10, 2024 Another reason organizers picked the theme “Every Life: Why We March,” Kane said, is because the march is a place where all generations gather.   “It’s really kind of the one place you can think of where people who have been your grandmother may have been marching, your mother, your daughter, your children,” Kane told The Daily Signal. “I mean, this is a place where every generation can coalesce.”   Some other themes from previous marches include “Love Saves Lives”, in 2018, and last year’s “Next Steps: Marching Into a Post-Roe America.”   The post Star Surfer Bethany Hamilton to Speak at March for Life   appeared first on The Daily Signal.
