“I’m not going that far,” President Joe Biden told a room full of his former opponent’s supporters as they urged him to don a Trump hat last month. But he did go that far. Grinning ear to ear, Biden popped the “Trump 2024” cap on his head, sparking a viral photo and endless memes on social media. Some observers wondered if the president’s cheeky move — a bad look for the party as Biden’s own vice president campaigned against former President Donald Trump — was more than a light-hearted moment. It’s seeming more and more like they may have been onto something. In the chaotic weeks leading up to the election, Biden, who was unceremoniously dumped from the presidential ticket, has made several moves that appear to subtly undermine Vice President Kamala Harris as she remains locked in a nail biter race against Trump. The speculation around Biden’s motives began with the Trump hat incident during the president’s September 11 visit to the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Biden himself asked for the man’s Trump cap before putting it on to applause from the crowd. Last Friday, Biden joined the White House press briefing — an unusual move for him — at the exact moment Harris stepped on stage for a campaign rally in Michigan. This forced television networks to cut away from Harris’ rally and cover him instead. Then at the briefing, Biden made it harder for Harris to squirm away from his administration’s record as she attempts to run as the candidate of change. “I’m in constant contact with her,” Biden said, adding that “we’re singing from the same song sheet. She helped pass all the laws that are being employed now.” “She was a major player in everything we’ve done, including passage of legislation, which we were told we could never pass,” he said. “Her staff is interlocked with mine in terms of all the things we’re doing.” On Tuesday, Biden counter-programmed Harris for the second time in a week, holding a briefing at the White House on the hurricane at the same time Harris was appearing on “The View.” As hurricane season got underway, Harris slammed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for not taking her phone calls about the impending storm, calling him “utterly irresponsible” and “selfish” and accusing him of playing political games. DeSantis pushed back, saying he was not aware of any calls from Harris and that she has “no role” in Florida’s hurricane response. Biden held firm in saying he would not step in and pause the strike, something he could have done under the Taft-Hartley Act. Harris later expressed support for the strike. Biden and Harris may have simply been a united front focused on courting the union vote, but Biden’s refusal to step in nevertheless limited Harris’ options to save the economy weeks out from the election. The Islamic man from Afghanistan who was arrested in Oklahoma on Monday for allegedly planning an ISIS terror attack on Election Day reportedly worked as a security guard in Afghanistan for the CIA. NBC News reported that 27-year-old Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi had “minimal interaction with Americans and he was not a CIA informant or a member of the U.S.-trained and armed paramilitary force known as the ‘Zero Units.'” After news broke of his arrest, questions immediately began to swirl about how the Biden-Harris administration failed to properly vet Tawhedi when he was evacuated out of Afghanistan following the administration’s disastrous withdraw in 2021. Charging documents stated that he was brought to Oklahoma by the administration under its special immigrant visa program. However, sources told NBC News that the charging documents were wrong and he did not enter the U.S. under the special immigrant visa program. Officials claimed that once he entered the U.S., he applied for a special immigrant visa and was vetted through that program, but even though he was approved, he never took the steps to make it official. No further details were provided. The screening process included “searching for any possible ties to terrorism, ISIS or the Taliban using information from his electronic devices, biometrics and other identity information to search the extensive intelligence databases the U.S. compiled over 20 years of collecting in Afghanistan,” the report said. Tawhedi was charged with providing, attempting to provide, and conspiracy to provide material support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization; and knowingly receiving, conspiring to receive, and attempting to receive firearms and ammunition to be used to commit a felony or Federal crime of terrorism. Prosecutors say that Tawhedi and a juvenile co-conspirator (CC 1) from Afghanistan took steps to raise the funds needed to carry out the attack and repatriate their family members to Afghanistan a couple weeks prior to the attack by selling their home and personal property. CC 1 is Tawhedi’s brother-in-law and was brought to the U.S. in 2018. The suspects had an extensive amount of ISIS propaganda that encouraged terrorist attacks on the U.S. and posed for photos while making ISIS hand gestures. Prosecutors said Tawhedi donated to a charity in March 2024 that was a front group for funneling money to ISIS, which is a crime. The FBI started monitoring him after the donation and tracked down his social media accounts and encrypted Telegram account where he was connected to another Islamic extremist who was involved in ISIS recruitment. Tawhedi sent CC 1 other contacts and encouraged them to be put into contact with the ISIS recruitment group. In early September, an FBI Confidential Human Source (CHS 1) reached out to the suspects after they put the family’s home and personal possessions up for sale to fund the attack and their family’s repatriation to Afghanistan. CHS 1 purchased a desktop computer and laptop from the suspects and told them he needed the devices for a new gun business that he was starting. From that point, CHS 1 built a relationship with the suspects and encouraged them to come shooting and told them he would sell them weapons. Messages on his Telegram account that were obtained by investigators allegedly show Tawhedi admitting to illegally purchasing two AK-47s and 500 rounds of ammunition. After he took delivery of the rifles and ammunition, undercover agents arrested both suspects. Tawhedi said in his communications that the terrorist attack was planned for Election Day. In a post-arrest interview, investigators say that he admitted to the plot and said that he and CC 1 expected to be martyred during the attack, which was “targeting large gatherings of people,” court documents said.

The pornography industry often makes headlines related to human trafficking, child sexual exploitation, or social media regulations, but this time it’s in the news for running political ads. With less than a month to go before the presidential election, a coalition of pornography producers, distributors, and “performers” is running ads online, encouraging porn users to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris. The $100,000 “Hands Off My Porn” campaign claims that former President Donald Trump will ban pornography if elected again. The claim is based on policy recommendations in The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, which Trump has repeatedly disavowed. Senior Trump campaign adviser Danielle Alvarez responded, “Since the Fall of 2023, President Trump’s campaign made it clear that only President Trump and the campaign, and NOT any other organization or former staff, represent policies for the second term.” Project 2025 authors and “Trump allies” are labeled “weirdos” in the ads, which claim that Trump will imprison porn producers. Holly Randall, a porn producer and “director” involved in the ad campaign, claimed that the pornography coalition has not coordinated with the Harris campaign or the Democratic Party but intends to increase their advertising budget. Despite Randall’s protests, Meg Kilgannon, senior fellow at the Family Research Council, observed that the Harris campaign must at least be aware of the advertising venture. “It is now legal for outside groups to coordinate expenditures with presidential campaigns,” Kilgannon noted. She continued, “While the fact of the porn expenditures themselves is shocking, the messaging around Project 2025 and the targeting of swing states would lead one to believe that these ads are coordinated with the [Democratic National Committee] and the Harris campaign.” She continued, “Is this all the sitting vice president of the United States has to offer those who use pornography—empty threats that porn will be banned if she loses? Does she hope to distract the young men in this demographic from the very real prospect that in a Harris-Walz administration, they will be drafted for military service and shipped overseas to die on foreign soil?” Kilgannon concluded, “It would be better to promise lower taxes, lower prices, and more jobs, but since Harris-Walz is not credible on those topics, it’s not surprising that the expert fearmongers at DNC would supplement their dire abortion messaging to women with porn-based ads for men.” The ads will reportedly run in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada. However, the claim that a second Trump administration would outlaw pornography may be at least partially undermined by the fact that over a third of U.S. states—including North Carolina and Georgia—have enacted age verification laws to prevent minors from accessing online porn, and pornography behemoth PornHub has outright stopped operating in many of those states. When Utah passed age verification laws last year, PornHub’s parent company—then called MindGeek, now called Aylo—blocked access in Utah to PornHub and a number of other pornographic websites it owned. PornHub has also shut down in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. When internet users visit the site, they are now met with a message criticizing the states’ laws barring minors from accessing pornography and urging porn users to contact their state representatives to complain. The ad campaign comes in the wake of Harris’ recent appearance on “Call Her Daddy,” a sex podcast known for its vulgar and explicit language. Child protection and anti-trafficking advocates have observed in the past that pornography creates a heightened demand for human trafficking, including child trafficking. PornHub and its parent company even admitted in federal court last year that the companies profit from illegal sex trafficking: PornHub hosted videos from a sex trafficking pornography production company and profited from those videos. According to court documents, PornHub and Aylo either knew or should have known that the profits they were receiving were from human trafficking. There are a number of allegations that PornHub and other major pornography distributors knowingly host and profit from human trafficking and videos depicting rape, pedophilia, bestiality, and other aberrant content.
