The Evil Revolutionary Left Cheers Murder

The Revolutionary Left is creeping into the mainstream. The shooting of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, has unleashed a wave of evil from members of the Left. Thompson wasn’t a criminal. He wasn’t even an advocate of death the way abortionists or euthanasia advocates are. (And murder of an abortionist or euthanasia advocate would be unjustifiable morally in a democratic system.) His great sin is that he was the head of a company that exists within a mixed private-public healthcare framework, and that he did his job. But for the Left, if you hate the system, you are morally justified in murdering anyone who acts within the system. That means that if, like one Bernie Sanders follower, you believe that private healthcare “kills Americans,” you can murder Congressmen. It means that if you don’t like that health insurers often deny coverage for certain pre-existing conditions or non-covered doctors or medication, you can murder the CEO of a health insurance company. This is revolutionary leftist evil. It’s evil for a couple reasons. First, violence is not justified in a democracy, where your say is part of the process. Revolution to overthrow tyranny is justified — but the tyranny must be real, and the violence must be the last resort. Neither is true in this case. If you do perceive America to be a tyranny and violence to be the proper response, that is a call for unending violence until the system itself is changed. It’s a call for revolution. Second, violence against members of private industry isn’t even a protest of public policy. It’s a protest against the very system of free markets. Thompson was not responsible for America’s healthcare system any more than the head of CVS is responsible for America’s tariff system. Directing hatred against Thompson is not about shaping public policy. It’s about trying to threaten anyone who engages in free markets at all. This person could have just as easily shot a doctor who decided not to perform a surgery, or a bank worker who denied a loan application. WATCH: The Ben Shapiro Show This was the philosophy of the Red Army Faction in Germany in the 1970s, also known as the Baader-Meinhof Gang. They weren’t seeking a better world. They were seeking to tear down the world of capitalism on behalf of Marxist evil. They routinely quoted Herbert Marcuse and Antonio Gramsci; they called for revolution. Ulrike Meinhof, a Left-wing radical journalist, led the way, famously stating, “Protest is when I say this does not please me. Resistance is when I ensure what does not please me occurs no more.” That philosophy led the Baader-Meinhof Gang to engage in routine assassination of everyone from industrialists like Hanns Martin Schleyer to Dresdner Bank head Jurgen Ponto to American servicemen in Germany. These people can also become tools of enemy regimes, as Baader-Meinhof was. Baader-Meinhof worked with the Stasi and other Soviet agents to foment chaos, and coordinated with Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Palestine Liberation Organization. The origins of Baader-Meinhof came from the 1968 student protests in Germany. They were Marxist in orientation, influenced by radical race riots in the United States, and allied with radicals all over the globe; Meinhof wrote an essay defending the Munich Massacre of Israeli Olympians by Palestinian terrorists. Stefan Aust, who literally wrote the book on the Baader-Meinhof Gang, pointed out: The Baader–Meinhof Gang drew a measure of support that violent leftists in the United States, like the Weather Underground, never enjoyed. A poll at the time showed that a quarter of West Germans under forty felt sympathy for the gang and one-tenth said they would hide a gang member from the police. Prominent intellectuals spoke up for the gang’s righteousness [as] Germany even into the 1970s was still a guilt-ridden society. When the gang started robbing banks, newscasts compared its members to Bonnie and Clyde. (Andreas) Baader, a charismatic action man indulged in the imagery, telling people that his favourite movies were Bonnie and Clyde, which had recently come out, and The Battle of Algiers. The pop poster of Che Guevara hung on his wall, [while] he paid a designer to make a Red Army Faction logo, a drawing of a machine gun against a red star. What do we make of the journalists and academics who proclaim soft support for the murder of Brian Thompson? That we are on the verge of something terrible. After all, this follows hard on the Black Lives Matters riots, which were indulged and even celebrated by many on the Left; the Hamas takeover of college campuses, again indulged and celebrated by Left-wing elite; and now, the not-so-quiet applause for the assassination of a private healthcare CEO. The toxic brew of radicalism and violence that characterized the 1970s in Germany and the United States is bubbling again. And why not? Many of those who engaged in precisely that violence are now well-respected American academics: Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn found high positions in academia after spending years planting bombs with the Weather Underground. CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE Certainly a desperate Left, spurred to action by constant talk of the “fascistic” takeover of Donald Trump, can be counted on to increase their support for violence. Two assassination attempts against Trump in the last six months are merely an indicator of just how deeply this rot is spreading. This must be stopped. It can only be stopped by a widespread rejection on all sides of the aisle for this type of violence. The shooter in this case should be arrested and given the death penalty. Seedbeds for such Marxist-Leninist violence on college campuses should be defunded. Those like Taylor Lorenz should be rejected from polite society. The Brian Thompson shooting is a bleeding edge indicator of where the country could be going. All it takes is someone with organizational capacity on the Left to launch America into a new era of domestic terrorism, with the tacit “moral” support of much of the journalistic establishment.

Shooter At Christian School Sought ‘Child Executions’ In Response To ‘Oppression Of Palestinians’

The man who shot and critically wounded two kindergartners at a Christian school in Oroville, California, on Wednesday wrote that he was seeking out “child executions” in response to “America’s involvement in Genocide and Oppression of Palestinians,” according to authorities. The shooter, who will not be named per Daily Wire policy, was identified as a 56-year-old man with a history of mental health issues and a lengthy criminal record. Action News Now reported that the Butte County, California, Sheriff’s Office obtained the shooter’s writings, which gave a motive for his attack on the Christian school. The shooter’s writings read, “Countermeasure involving child executions has now been imposed at the Seventh-Day Adventist school in California, United States by the International Alliance. Lieutenant Glenn Litton of the Alliance, carried out countermeasure in necessitated response to America’s involvement in Genocide and Oppression of Palestinians along with attack towards Yemen.” Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said authorities found no evidence of the “International Alliance” referenced by the shooter, adding that the shooter had a history of mental health issues. As a child, the shooter attended an Adventist school in the nearby town of Paradise. District Attorney Mike Ramsey said it’s possible that the shooter would have been charged with a hate crime if he had survived. The shooter met with the principal at Feather River Adventist School in the early afternoon on Wednesday before opening fire and wounding two young boys before turning the gun on himself. The young victims were identified as 6-year-old Roman Mendez and 5-year-old Elias Wolford. Mendez was shot twice, resulting in internal injuries, and Wolford was shot once in the stomach, also resulting in internal injuries. Both boys remain in critical condition. CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE The shooter was a homeless man who moved around the Chico and Sacramento areas, CBS News reported. The 56-year-old white male was convicted of multiple crimes in the 1990s and early 2000s, including theft, fraud, and forgery. According to Sheriff Honea, the shooter also had a juvenile record. Just last month, the shooter was arrested in South San Francisco after he was suspected of stealing a U-Haul truck. Law enforcement officers found him in the stolen truck, and he was transported to the San Bernadino County Jail. He pled not guilty and was released from jail on November 21. After he was released, the shooter stayed at various motels in the Chico area, which is about 30 miles north of Feather River Adventist School. Days before the shooting, the 56-year-old homeless man called the Christian school to set up an appointment where he could discuss enrolling his grandson, according to Honea. After meeting with the principal on Wednesday, the shooter walked toward the exit, but then turned and walked back toward the playground as students were coming back into the building after a break. Honea said surveillance footage showed the shooter reach for his waistband, where Honea said he was holding a handgun. The shooter then began firing the gun and wounded two boys, ages 5 and 6. The shooter’s first prison sentence in 1991 came after he was charged with cultivating marijuana and petty theft, according to CBS News. A little over a decade later, he stole the identities of multiple Butte County residents and charged credit cards thousands of dollars for rent, food, and entertainment, District Attorney Mike Ramsey said. After being arrested in 2002, police searched the shooter’s home and computer and found that he had searched for firearms and explosives, leading investigators to believe he was planning a mass incident with explosives, according to Ramsey.

Jason & Kylie Kelce’s Toddler Feels “Personally Victimized” For The Most Hilarious Reason

If you ever had the pleasure of finding out your mom was pregnant, and you were no longer going to be the baby, you probably had big feelings about it. This can be a particularly devastating blow if you don’t feel like you’ve had enough time in the baby position. Some kids get to be there for a long time, while others get booted just as things start getting good. Jason and Kylie Kelce recently announced in a hilarious social media post that they’re expecting their fourth daughter. The parents shared a video of daughters Wyatt, 5, Elliotte, 3, and Bennett, not quite 2, in “Big Sister” sweaters showing a range of emotions. Wyatt and Elliotte are used to the title, but Bennett doesn’t look very excited. And according to her mom, it hasn’t gotten much better. View this post on Instagram A post shared by TODAY (@todayshow) Jason And Kylie Kelce’s Youngest Daughter Wants To Be The Baby Forever Kylie shared a video from her new podcast Not Gonna Lie, where she read the question.   “Has Bennie come around?” “She absolutely has not,” her mother hilariously confirmed. Kylie Kelce went on to explain that not only is Bennett not excited about the baby. She won’t even let her other sisters sit on her mom’s lap when she’s around. “So, we are about to ruin her day,” Kylie joked. It’s unclear when Kylie and Jason’s newest bundle of joy will arrive, but it may be the last for the couple. Jason shared on his podcast New Heights with brother Travis Kelce that this baby “Might be the last hurrah.” At one point, Kylie apparently hoped for a bigger family, but that might have changed. “Kylie said five,” he explained. “But I don’t know if she’s feeling that anymore. I think she’s like, ‘I’m done.'” If this is the last baby for Jason and Kylie Kelce, the girl dad is satisfied. “I just love my daughters so much,” he said. “The fact that we’re going to be getting another one is beyond exciting.” This story’s featured image is by Michael Loccisano/Getty Images. 5 Reasons DC Shouldn’t Be a State

5 Reasons DC Shouldn’t Be a State

Many Democrats dream of ways to ensure they never lose power again. This is why they want to eliminate the Electoral College, pack the Supreme Court, and make the District of Columbia a state. As D.C. celebrates 50 years of “home rule,” here are five reasons that autonomy—let alone statehood—isn’t a good idea. 1. The Constitution The U.S. Constitution gave Congress the power to create a “District (not exceeding ten Miles square)” to “become the Seat of the Government of the United States.” In 1790, Congress created Washington, D.C., which was to be run by three commissioners appointed by the president. Two and a half centuries later, the residents of this district should know what the deal is: D.C. was never meant to be a state itself. D.C. residents can, at any time, relocate to any state in the country. In 1964, they were allowed to vote for president. They have a nonvoting representative in Congress. The current mayor and all 13 D.C. Council members, except for two nominal “independents,” are Democrats. On Nov. 5, 92.5% of D.C. voters went for Kamala Harris for president. If you want to imagine what two D.C. senators would look like politically, check out D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton. Democrats want to lock in two senators like that, forever. That was not the Founders’ intention. 2. Crime Over 1,000 carjackings occurred last year in the District of Columbia. This year, we’re supposed to be happy that the number reportedly has declined, along with some other crimes. But in the past year, the Secret Service has foiled two attempted carjackings in the best parts of Washington. The general sense of the population is that D.C. is returning to the bad old days of the 1970s and ’80s. Mentally ill vagrants, turnstile jumpers, shoplifters, and street racers perpetuate a climate of incivility and impunity. At the CVS drugstore near the White House, they lock up toilet paper. In less tony locations, they lock up everything. In really tough D.C. neighborhoods, they just close the stores. Retail theft is a major impediment to businesses large and small, and store closures further impoverish already disadvantaged neighborhoods. 3. Education Spending per student in the District of Columbia is the second highest in the nation, yet the results are abysmal. Truancy rates are high. Test scores are low on average, although a few schools do better. Only 33.7% of students who took D.C.’s assessment test last year “met or exceeded grade level expectations” in English. Only 22.5% did so in math. As a result, most parents who can afford it either enter their kids in the lottery for charter schools after fifth grade or send them to private school. Back in the 1970s, President Jimmy Carter, a Democrat, sent his daughter Amy to Hardy Middle School in the Glover Park neighborhood. Two later Democrat presidents—Bill Clinton in the 1990s and Barack Obama after him—sent their daughters to Sidwell Friends, an expensive private school a mile away from Hardy and Glover Park. That says a lot.   4. Homelessness and Vagrancy Last year, I wrote to Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, about illegal tent encampments on public land. A few weeks later, the National Park Service removed a long-standing campsite in front of the State Department and another near the Kennedy Center. The result wasn’t a renovated green space for locals and visitors to enjoy, but a fenced-off area no one can enter, with benches no one can sit on. Is this “progressive”? Meanwhile, although the federal agency cleared trespassing campers, the D.C. government ignores violations on the land it controls. A few weeks ago, a man set up a tent on the pedestrian overpass at Virginia Avenue and I-66. He observably suffered from mental illness. In addition to shouting at strangers, the man set small cooking fires outside and even inside his tent. Here’s a photo in which you can see orange flames from a fire through the fabric of the tent at left: Letting a troubled person pitch a tent anywhere he wants is both unsafe for him and the community. The man eventually was removed, but tents keep popping up on public D.C. land, singly or in groups, including these ones: An illegal campsite along Rock Creek Parkway in Washington, D.C. (Simon Hankinson) An illegal campsite at Washington Circle and K Street NW. (Simon Hankinson) 5. Corruption The District of Columbia recently celebrated 50 years of controlling its own affairs. Before President Richard Nixon granted this “home rule,” the president picked a mayor and commissioners to handle everything from traffic to trash. Congress managed education. Home rule was a mixed blessing. With local control came local corruption. No one symbolized that better than “Mayor for Life” Marion Barry. A statue of Barry stands outside D.C. city hall on Pennsylvania Avenue NW. The plinth below the statue reads: “Mr. Barry was a larger than life figure—a man who could both lead the protest as an activist and engage the protest as Mayor.” But Barry is also remembered for the city’s corruption and for his personal failings. Washington Post columnist Colbert King explains how Barry served six months in jail for crack cocaine possession, failed to pay taxes, and was censured twice by the D.C. Council for misconduct. Sadly, the tradition of D.C. voters reelecting politicians despite corruption is alive and well. Council member Trayon White was indicted recently on charges of taking bribes to throw city contracts to friends. With photos appearing to show White taking envelopes of cash from an FBI informant, he has some ’splainin’ to do. Despite this, White was reelected to his Ward 8 seat on the D.C. Council with 84% of the vote. His trial has been put off until 2026, pending which he’ll remain a voting council member, collecting a salary of $161,000 and deciding where to spend our tax dollars. Washington, D.C., is the capital of a great nation. It has remarkable museums and buildings. But it is in all respects just a midsize city, without any of the hinterland, industry, agriculture, and other attributes even the smallest of our 50 states needs to be a peer with the others. The city’s residents deserve better government, but not statehood. The post 5 Reasons DC Shouldn’t Be a State appeared first on The Daily Signal.
