Al Pacino said he had a near-death experience after a bout of COVID in 2020. The 84-year-old Academy Award winner discussed the incident during a recent interview with People to promote his upcoming memoir, “Sonny Boy.”  “I thought I experienced death. I might not have. I don’t think I have, really. I know I made it,” Pacino told the outlet. He continued. “I don’t think I died. Everybody thought I was dead. How could I be dead? If I was dead, I fainted,” he continued. “And when I opened my eyes, there were six paramedics in my living room. There was an ambulance outside the door, and two of my doctors in those space suits [like] on Mars. I looked around and I thought, ‘What happened to me?'” “So I couldn’t have died, because how did all those people gather together, the ambulance in front of my house?” Pacino said. The “Scarface” star said his assistant, Michael Quinn, realized what a serious situation Pacino was in and called the ambulance. Am I Racist? When asked if a brush with death changed his outlook on life, the actor replied, “No, not at all.” Speaking about the same incident with The New York Times, Pacino said, “I didn’t see the white light or anything. There’s nothing there. As Hamlet says, ‘To be or not to be’; ‘The undiscovered country from whose bourn, no traveler returns.’ And he says two words: ‘No more.’ It was no more.” “You’re gone. I’d never thought about it in my life. But you know actors: It sounds good to say I died once. What is it when there’s no more?” Pacino made headlines last year for fathering a child with a 29-year-old woman, who later worked out an agreement with the actor to receive $30,000 per month in child support payments.  “It’s very special. It always has been. I’ve got many kids. But this is really special coming at this time,” he said of having another child in his 80s. 

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was promoted to senior adviser to the president on Monday with just over three months remaining in President Joe Biden’s term in the White House, according to ABC News. Jean-Pierre, who began serving as press secretary on May 13, 2022, will now join the innermost circle of Biden’s advisers, which includes Mike Donilon, Steve Richetti, and Bruce Reed. Along with serving as senior adviser to Biden, Jean-Pierre will continue her press secretary duties. “Karine has been a trusted advisor to the President and all of us here at the White House since day one. Her counsel will be critical to get as much done as possible for the American people in the coming months,” said White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, ABC News reported. Upon being tapped by Biden to take over as press secretary in 2022, Jean-Pierre, 50, was praised in the media for being the first black woman and the first openly gay person to become the White House press secretary. Jean-Pierre was part of the Biden-Harris 2020 campaign, serving as chief of staff for Kamala Harris. She also worked for former President Barack Obama’s campaign and in the Obama administration. Jean-Pierre has frequently been slammed by conservatives, especially after facing questions from Fox News’ Peter Doocy in the briefing room. Last month, the press secretary defended referring to former President Donald Trump as a “threat” just two days after the Republican nominee was the target of a second assassination attempt. After Biden dropped out of the 2024 race in July, Jean-Pierre had to correct herself after falsely stating that the president did not meet with a Parkinson’s doctor earlier in the year when he did. Jean-Pierre was also blasted after claiming that Biden was “selfless” to end his campaign, adding that Biden’s decision to drop out of the race had “nothing to do with his health.” Am I Racist? During an appearance on “The View” two days after Biden dropped out of the race, Jean-Pierre said calls for him to resign the presidency were “ridiculous.” “The president decided to not run for reelection.
