Joe Biden’s North Carolina Visit Delayed Hurricane Helene Rescue Efforts For Four Hours, Congressman Says
Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) is on the ground in North Carolina and provided updates on the dire situation following Hurricane Helene.
Mills said Joe Biden visited North Carolina and caused a four-hour delay in search and rescue efforts.
“Unfortunately, one of the things that occurred today that slowed down our progress is that President Biden decided to go ahead and do a fly-in today. But then he also put a TFR, 30 miles TFR around the actual impact of the area, which means that no helicopters and no planes have any access or any capability to fly,” Mills said.
“So for four hours they were grounded. Search and rescue was grounded. Distribution of food and supplies was grounded. And so this, in my opinion, was irresponsible. If FEMA is going to not show up and the federal government is going to delay up to a week to be here. At least don’t stop the operations by the civilians and organizations,” he continued.

Per CBS News:
President Biden traveled to the Carolinas on Wednesday for an aerial tour of the widespread damage caused by Hurricane Helene, as well as a briefing on the ground on recovery efforts. Vice President Kamala Harris is in Georgia receiving updates on the emergency response to the storm’s devastation there.
Mr. Biden said that he approved a request from North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper for the federal government to cover “100 percent” of all debris removal and emergency protective measure costs for six months.
“My heart goes out to everyone who has experienced the unthinkable loss,” the president said during a briefing in Raleigh. “But we’re here for you.”
Mr. Biden first headed to Greenville, South Carolina, where utility crews and city public work teams are trying to clear roadways and return power. He went on an aerial tour of the affected region to get a sense of the seismic devastation from above without interfering with recovery efforts.
The president and his team flew over Asheville, North Carolina, where some of the worst of the damage is.

The Biden administration has faced vitriol for its response to the disaster.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said FEMA doesn’t have enough funding to last through hurricane season.
Also, Kamala Harris announced a slap-in-the-face $750 to victims.
In addition, the Department of Transportation said “do not fly your drone near or around rescue and recovery efforts for Hurricane Helene.”
Per FEMA:
For Fiscal Year (FY) 2024, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will provide $640.9 million of available funds to enable non-federal entities to off-set allowable costs incurred for services associated with noncitizen migrant arrivals in their communities.
The funding will be distributed through two opportunities, $300 million through SSP – Allocated (SSP-A) and $340.9 million through SSP – Competitive (SSP-C).
Fox News host Jesse Watters criticized the Biden administration for impeding the Hurricane Helene rescue efforts.
“Over 200 Americans are dead after Hurricane Helene and the thousands of victims impacted have been disgracefully left behind. The Biden administration has blocked ongoing rescue operations and North Carolina is living in the dark ages because Joe Biden and Kamala Harris hate Elon Musk. FEMA is now out of money, because Joe Biden and Kamala spent over a billion dollars of FEMA cash on migrants. Illegals got luxury hotel rooms, but Kamala’s just tossing Helene victims $750 and heading back on the campaign trail. This must not meet her standard for giving extra resources- she only wants to do that based on equity,” he said.
