Jerome Powell Admits Illegal Migrants Are Killing Employment

Jerome Powell admitted people coming illegally are causing a dramatic increase in unemployment [of citizens]. It’s obvious, but it is unusual for one of the elites to actually admit it. The nearly 500,000 migrants who were criminals before they came over aren’t helping the economy. They are adding to the welfare rolls. The D.C. Swing State Voters Receive Mail Ballots For Relatives Who Died, Moved Away

Swing State Voters Receive Mail Ballots For Relatives Who Died, Moved Away

An 81-year-old Illinois man was shocked to receive a mail-in ballot for his wife, who died in October 2022.  George, who lives in Kane County about 50 miles west of Chicago, showed The Daily Wire the ballot which he found in his mailbox on Saturday. He also received a ballot addressed to his late wife ahead of the Illinois primary in March. This was especially confusing, George said, because he had shown his wife’s death certificate to Kane County election officials — who also told The Daily Wire that George’s wife was no longer on the voter rolls. The saga has George concerned about the integrity of the presidential election — and he’s not alone. Voters in several swing states have reached out to The Daily Wire to share stories like George’s, and raise concerns about what’s going on with mail-in ballots. “There are states that do better than others in terms of identifying and removing all forms of inaccurate voter registration,” says Honest Elections Project executive director Jason Snead, adding that there are “widespread” issues with voter rolls throughout the country.  Photo of ballot sent from George to Daily Wire. George, who has lived in Illinois for over six decades, said his ballot issues began with the 2022 midterms, when he got to his polling place on Election Day, only to be told he couldn’t vote in person because he had a pending mail-in ballot.  In the end, George said he had to go home and pick up his mail ballot, which he hadn’t used, and take it in to get it voided. He also brought the ballot that had been sent to his late wife, which he said really “upset” the election officials. He said he was eventually able to vote, but only after about 45 minutes of discussions with election officials and showing his wife’s death certificate to have her ballot voided. While Illinois law allows voters to request permanent mail-in vote status for primary and general elections, George told The Daily Wire that he never signed up to get a mail-in ballot, and always votes in person.   “My assumption is that they are just sending everyone they can think of a ballot,” George said.  Kane County Clerk John Cunningham told The Daily Wire that George’s wife was no longer on the rolls, and that the county’s signature verification process would have caught any attempted voter fraud.  “Even if someone got a ballot and they mailed it in, and filled it out, it would not be counted because the signature would not be right,” he said. “Because we check for signature on our voter database with the signature on the ballot and if they don’t match, then we don’t count them.” He said that he did not know how she could have ended up with a ballot for the primary election.   “She’s not on our records, so I don’t know how she would have gotten that,” he said, but said he couldn’t tell when she was removed from the record.  Several current and former Arizona voters told The Daily Wire they have received ballots for people who had moved out of the state. Skyler, a former Army medic, told The Daily Wire that he and his wife have received 2024 mail-in ballots from Arizona at their home in Colorado, where he is now registered to vote. Previously a resident of Maricopa County, Skyler said that he voted absentee throughout his military career before retiring in May 2024, when he registered to vote in Colorado.  Despite changing his voter registration and informing Maricopa County that he was no longer an Arizona voter, Skyler said that received mail-in ballots for both the July primary election and the November general election. He doesn’t know how Maricopa County got his Colorado address. Another Maricopa County resident told The Daily Wire they had been receiving a ballot for their daughter for the past three years, even though she had moved to Utah. They said they returned the ballots every year, indicating that their daughter no longer lived there, but that they still had been receiving her ballot.  One Maricopa County woman told The Daily Wire that she had received a ballot to her home for her son for years, as recently as the 2024 primary elections, even though he had lived in Alabama for six years.  According to Arizona law, voters on the Active Early Voting List (AEVL) are automatically sent a ballot “for all elections in which they are eligible to vote.” However, voters are supposed to be taken off the list if they do not vote in two consecutive federal elections.  “A voter may be removed from AEVL if the voter does not cast an early ballot in at least one candidate election over the course of two consecutive federal election cycles and fails to respond to an official notice from the Elections Department,” Maricopa County’s election website says.  “If you don’t vote the ballot, why do they keep sending you one?” the concerned Arizonan asked, noting that her son has not voted in the 2018, 2020, or 2022 federal elections, but received a ballot for the 2024 primaries.  She said that she also had received a ballot for a prior resident of a home she and her husband had purchased in Tucson. She said this raised concerns about how many ballots may be floating out there for people who have not moved out of Arizona, or even to a different home.  When asked about concerns with mail-in ballots, the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office said voters could “fill out a voter cancellation form” online and pointed to the county’s “voter list maintenance practices” posted online.  “Under Recorder [Stephen] Richer, more than 400,000 voters have been removed from our voter rolls due to diligent list maintenance. Our office reviews multiple databases to ensure our voter rolls remain as accurate as possible,” the recorder’s office told The Daily Wire in a statement.  Voting by mail in Arizona begins on October 9. The deadline to request a ballot by mail is October 25.  Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! With just 34 days until the election, issues with mail-in ballots have begun to make headlines. Last week, election officials in Madison, Wisconsin, sent out 2,215 duplicate ballots to the heavily-Democratic city.  “This was a mistake,” said city spokesman Dylan Brogan. “The clerk’s office moved to rectify it as quickly as possible.” In response, Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) has called for an independent investigation into the incident, saying that voters “deserve clear answers regarding the full scope of this blunder.” In Pennsylvania, another battleground state, the Republican National Committee filed a lawsuit last month alleging that Montgomery County officials had sent out 2024 election ballots without conducting accuracy testing required by state laws. The suit said that the county, the commonwealth’s third most populous, did not conduct logic and accuracy tests before sending out absentee ballots. Former President Donald Trump has long raised concerns about mail-in voting, arguing that it opens up the door to fraud. And while Trump has encouraged supporters to vote however they can in the coming cycle, he has said he would restrict mail-in voting if he wins the White House. “Any time you have a mail-in ballot, there’s going to be massive fraud. What we have to do is, get control, and then we have to change it,” he said during an interview in August. “And it’s a very simple change, same day voting.”

I Experienced Hurricane Helene’s Wrath. Where Are The Media And The Government?

I have lived through the fury of tropical storms in the Washington, D.C. area and horrifying snowstorms in Utah. Waking up the morning after Hurricane Helene hit the Augusta, Georgia area, I stepped outside and saw what looked like scenes from a disaster movie — except this was real life. Fences had been ripped apart and power lines and trees were down. Then I received messages from friends saying trees had fallen on or into their homes, there was flooding everywhere, and some of them said they found dead bodies. I immediately knew this was not your average storm. As policy analyst and reporter, I noticed the limited national media coverage of the hurricane and the abysmal response from the federal government upon self-evacuating the area. Now, it’s troubling to see how quickly the media are shifting focus away from the Hurricane Helene crisis after the vice presidential debate. At first, I was wondering if my perception of the storm’s severity was influenced by the impact it had on my community. I even asked myself: Where is President Joe Biden and where is the media? However, my friends and colleagues who also work in national media even started to notice it was being downplayed and wondered why it was not receiving Hurricane Katrina-level coverage. From the moment you turned on your television to the moment you turned it off, coverage of Hurricane Katrina dominated the news. Even when you looked at news online, it was all about the storm and almost nothing else. Even Christina Pushaw, communications specialist for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, said that “national media coverage of Helene has been less than I would expect for such a massive disaster.” At least the recent floods in North Carolina have brought widespread media attention to Asheville and Buncombe County, particularly due to the record-breaking rainfall and the tragic loss of lives. However, it’s not enough. Heightened media coverage can significantly raise awareness among the public, potentially resulting in an influx of volunteers and a more robust response from the federal government. Right now, very few national media outlets have been talking about the gas crisis with people waiting hours to get gas, traveling long distances, and even gas shortages. I know many people have traveled to Columbia, South Carolina or small towns in between Augusta and Atlanta to find gas. Some have said they have even had to bring back gas for others who could not get out of town. What about power outages and water being shut down during a hot and humid September and October? Why have there been so few mentions of this from the national media? It is impacting almost everyone that was in the path of the storm. On a more positive note, Gov. Ron DeSantis has quickly restored power to nearly 2.3 million homes, with approximately 111,000 remaining, but that also has not garnered much attention. The national media also seem to be overlooking the other states aside from Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas that were impacted including Tennessee and Virginia. Not many realize that people have been looting stores, including in Tennessee and Georgia. In addition to very little coverage from the national media, the federal government must still play a role in the hurricane response. Ensuring the protection of citizens remains a paramount responsibility, demanding proactive measures from the federal government. Unfortunately, there is a difficult approval process that requires local emergency managers and public officials to “show that the disaster is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and the affected local governments.” For example, at the start of 2022, four major disasters were declared, including tornadoes and flooding, but most of them had happened in 2021. Despite immediate aid being provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) following emergency declarations from the White House, it took almost a month before a “major disaster” requiring long-term aid was officially declared. Adding my region’s counties on the FEMA Disaster Assistance website took four days after the storm, despite its immediate impact, which has already led to at least 21 deaths and counting. The lengthy approval process for our region’s “worst natural disaster” and other areas was unnecessary and should have been expedited. The abysmal national media coverage of Hurricane Helene and response from the federal government has left many communities feeling neglected. It is essential that the national media prioritize comprehensive coverage of catastrophic events like Hurricane Helene, raising public awareness and galvanizing support. * * * Frances Floresca is a policy analyst and reporter living in Augusta, Georgia. Federal Judge Says University Must Let Anti-Israel Group Hold Oct. 7 Event

A federal judge on Tuesday said that the University of Maryland must allow a pro-Palestinian group to hold a rally on October 7, the anniversary of Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel. “Even if pro-Israel groups see October 7 as somehow sacrosanct, it is at least fair argument for pro-Palestine groups to see the date as sacrosanct as well, symbolic of what they believe is Palestine’s longstanding fight for the liberation of Gaza,” U.S. District Judge Peter J. Messitte wrote in his injunction blocking the university from canceling the event. “SJP [Students for Justice in Palestine] says it chose October 7 specifically because October 7 marks the beginning of what it calls Israel’s most recent ‘genocidal campaign’ which, SJP claims, has resulted in the death of over 40,000 Palestinians in Gaza. … No other date, as SJP sees it, can make the point of their mission quite as forcefully as October 7; to SJP, it is unique. That, in the Court’s view, fortifies SJP’s claim of irreparable harm.” Even though he ruled the event must proceed, Judge Messitte noted that SJP “has picked a particularly controversial date to hold an event to commemorate Gaza War dead, to decry what it terms Israeli ‘genocide’…on October 7, a day when it has been widely reported that Hamas fighters invaded Jewish settlements near Gaza, killing some 1,200 occupants, torturing others, and taking some 250 hostages.” The University System of Maryland banned all events on October 7 after University of Maryland President Darryll Pines came under fire for defending SJP’s planned event. The group, backed by lawyers from the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), sued the university system after it said SJP would have to hold its event on a different day. In response to the lawsuit, the university suggested that it cancelled events on October 7th because of anti-black racism. Patricia Perillo, the University of Maryland’s vice president of student affairs, said in an affidavit that “In late August, 2024, my team and I became aware of a new, more angry, aggressive and violent tone to the messages the University was receiving, centered around SJP hosting an event on campus on October 7. For example, on August 26, 2024, an individual emailed University President Darryll J. Pines, who is Black, advising that if the University was going to permit SJP’s event to go forward, ‘then my Klan Rally with sheets and a noose are also approved.’” The writer of the email in question raises the specter of KKK rallies to highlight how Jewish students would feel if SJP was allowed to proceed with its plan to mark October 7 by covering campus with Palestinian flags. The university’s filing seems to willfully misread the email. Judge Messitte’s ruling makes clear the actual context, saying that a letter from Jews said they found the October 7 event “disgusting” because it was like “granting permission to white supremacists to burn a cross on campus on the day commemorating the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” The Daily Wire previously reported that Pines misrepresented ChatGPT output about Palestine as “faculty scholarship” in order to rebuff a Jewish critic, and threatened to call the police on a Jewish resident for sending emails criticizing the school’s handling of anti-Semitism, all while claiming that the October 7 event itself was protected by free speech. Judge Messitte wrote that “SJP has held more than 70 events on campus since October 7, 2023, including meetings, protests, sit-ins, and demonstrations, all without significant disruption or conflict.” He said if Maryland really did fear violence it had other options, such as bringing in extra security or installing metal detectors. He said the First Amendment and precedent make granting an injunction an easy legal call. The free-speech group FIRE lauded the judge’s decision, saying “Students have a First Amendment right to speak on their public campus on October 7th, and UMD’s effort to delay that speech to a day that’s more convenient for them was, plain and simple, unconstitutional.” SJP has itself tried to proscribe Jewish students’ free speech. When the Institute for Israel Studies invited the U.S. ambassador to Israel, Michael Herzog, to speak on campus in 2022, SJP issued a statement saying that “students and community members of good conscience” should “wholeheartedly oppose the event.” And in a “statement of views,” the SJP chapter said in July that “UMD SJP unequivocally states that the Zionist state of Israel has no right to exist,” and that Palestinians have “the right to resist.” Related: University of Maryland President Copied Rocket Science Paper From Aussie Student
