Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Tuesday that he’s providing free internet through his product Starlink to those affected by Hurricane Helene. At least 180 people across Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Virginia have already been confirmed dead in the wake of the hurricane, with the death total expected to rise. Many survivors have said they are having a hard time getting in contact with their loved ones. Former President Donald Trump on Monday visited Georgia, one of the hardest-hit states in the area. Thank you Elon!!!” Over the weekend, President Joe Biden was at his home in Delaware but made it back to the White House on Monday to give a press conference on federal relief efforts. Last week, Hurricane Helene left behind 500 miles’ worth of destruction that spans from Florida all the way up to the Southern Appalachians. Even areas that are normally not affected by hurricanes (at least not to this degree) have experienced devastation unlike anything they’ve seen before. In the wake of this storm, people are finding it more important than ever to find those who are willing and able to help. This is especially vital for those who are still looking to escape cities and smaller towns that are no longer safe. Doing so, however, can be nearly impossible. With entire roads broken apart, evacuating to safe locations requires lots of planning and walking. Thankfully, there were stops along the way at fire stations. Here, they finally had access to “transport vehicles, water, food, coffee, etc.,” all things they were “extremely grateful” to be given. By Sunday, the U.S. Army was able to transport this family out. There are no words to describe the devastation left behind by hurricane Helene, making moments of selfless acts all the more vital.
