Dennis Quaid’s ‘Reagan’ Loved By Audiences, Hated By Critics

Actor Dennis Quaid appeared on Fox News Sunday to discuss his new historical biopic, “Reagan,” and mentioned the difference between critic ratings and audience scores. Currently, the film has an 18% critic score and a 98% audience rating on the popular review site, Rotten Tomatoes. Thanks to so many good marks, “Reagan” has also been marked as “Verified Hot” on the new Popcornmeter, meaning it earned more than 500 four-star ratings from verified ticket purchasers. And if you were born after 1985, you can see how great this country still can be.” Earlier in the conversation, the celeb discussed how he took the role very seriously and initially hesitated to accept the opportunity. “I just remember a bolt of fear going up my spine when I was offered the role,” he said. “Because everybody in the world, they’re gonna know who [Reagan] is and probably have an opinion about him.” Am I Racist? After visiting the Reagan Ranch in Santa Barbara, the actor said he felt better about his ability to take on the part. “I could really feel him there,” he recalled of the late president, who died in 2004. “That’s when I knew I had a way in, to portray his humanity… him as a person behind the public persona,” he said.  “Reagan” is based on the 2006 book “The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism” by Paul Kengor. The film, directed by Sean McNamara, stars Quaid as the former president and Penelope Ann Miller as his wife, Nancy. Academy Award winner Jon Voight has a supporting role. It is currently in theaters nationwide.

Fight Between Jane’s Addiction Band Members Leads To Tour Cancellation

Not long after embarking on its reunion tour, Jane’s Addiction has canceled the remainder of its scheduled shows following a physical altercation between two band members during a recent live performance. Footage of singer Perry Ferrell punching guitarist Dave Navarro after the two got into a heated argument onstage started circulating online following their concert in Boston on Friday night. The show ended early, and the band initially only called off Sunday’s concert, but they have since canceled the rest of the tour.  “To all the fans, the band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group,” a statement posted on X Monday morning said. “As such, they will be cancelling [sic] the remainder of the tour.” The announcement says refunds for the canceled dates will be issued to all ticket purchasers. While the statement didn’t mention Ferrell by name, Navarro provided more details via a post on his personal Instagram page. “Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour. Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs,” he wrote.  Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! Navarro’s post continued, “We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis. Our hearts are broken.”  The statement is signed by “Dave, Eric and Stephen (Perkins).” While the reasoning for the outburst isn’t clear, Farrell’s wife did post on her social media that the singer was unhappy that his vocals couldn’t be heard over the instruments.    View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Etty Lau Farrell (@ettylaufarrell) “Perry’s frustration had been mounting, night after night, he felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band,” Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, wrote in an Instagram post shared on Saturday morning. She added that when “the audience in the first row” had complained that they couldn’t hear Perry sing, “Perry lost it.” She went on to say Farrell had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat. “By the end of the song, he wasn’t singing, he was screaming just to be heard,” Etty Lau added, saying after being escorted off stage, her husband had a “breakdown” where he “cried and cried.” A total of 15 remaining dates are being canceled, per Variety, less than a month after Live Nation announced that seven dates were being added to the end of the tour. Jane’s Addiction is known for songs like “Jane Says,” “Been Caught Stealing,” and “Just Because.” They rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s as alternative rock and grunge music genres were exploding in popularity. This was the band’s first tour in 15 years.

Sheriff: Feds ‘Laser-Focused’ On Finding Out If Would-Be Trump Assassin Is ‘Part Of A Conspiracy’

Martin County, Florida, Sheriff Will Snyder said on Monday that federal authorities are “laser-focused” on whether the man who allegedly attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump on Sunday is “part of a conspiracy.” Snyder, who oversees the county where suspected would-be assassin Ryan Routh was arrested, held a press conference Monday morning and answered questions about the early stages of the investigation into the assassination attempt on Trump. The sheriff said that Routh doesn’t have any ties to Martin County and is not from the area, which “raises [a] bigger question.” “How does a guy from not here get all the way to Trump International, realize that the former president of the United States is golfing, and is able to get a rifle in that vicinity?” Snyder asked. “I think that’s the question the FBI, the Secret Service are laser-focused on today: is this guy part of a conspiracy? Is he a lone gunman?” “If he’s a lone gunman, President Trump is much safer because we have him, but if he’s part of a conspiracy, then this whole thing really takes on a very ominous tone,” the sheriff added. JUST IN: Martin County Sheriff Will Snyder suggests would-be Trump assass*n Ryan Routh could be part of a bigger conspiracy during a press conference. The comments mirror those made by former assistant FBI director Chris Swecker. Reporter: Does Ryan Routh have any ties to… pic.twitter.com/nXBQAFyI3x — Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) September 16, 2024 Snyder’s statements are similar to remarks made by former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker, who told Newsweek on Monday morning, “The biggest question to answer is: ‘How did the would-be assassin know to be at that location at that time?’ There are only three possible answers: He guessed and got very lucky; he conducted surveillance on Trump and followed him to the golf course or he had inside information about Trump’s schedule.” Am I Racist? Is In Theaters NOW — Get Your Tickets Here! “The last answer is scary and has implications that another person was involved,” Swecker added. Routh posted his disdain for Trump multiple times on social media, including one post where he wrote, “While you were my choice in [2016], I and the world hoped that president Trump would be different and better than the candidate, but we all were greatly disappointment [sic] and it seems you are getting worse and devolving. I will be glad when you gone.” Routh, 58, was convicted in 2002 of possessing a fully automatic machine gun. That year, he reportedly barricaded himself inside a Greensboro, North Carolina, business with a gun. On Sunday, after Routh was stopped by Secret Service agents and apprehended by authorities, agents found an AK-47-style rifle, a GoPro, and backpacks behind some bushes where Routh allegedly set himself up to take a shot at Trump. Routh reportedly traveled to Ukraine after Russia’s invasion and attempted to recruit fighters to help Ukraine fight Russia. “I AM WILLING TO FLY TO KRAKOW AND GO TO THE BORDER OF UKRAINE TO VOLUNTEER AND FIGHT AND DIE,” he wrote on X in 2022. Routh was charged on Monday with two federal gun crimes and could face more charges pending the federal government’s investigation into his alleged attempt to shoot Trump. Routh will be formally arraigned at the end of the month.

Gigantic Rogue Wave in Pacific Sets Unprecedented Record

A massive rogue wave recorded off the coast of British Columbia, Canada, has been confirmed as the most extreme ever documented. The wave, which struck on November 17, 2020, reached a staggering height of 58 feet (17.6 meters), making it nearly three times the height of the surrounding waves. This extraordinary event was recorded by a buoy deployed by MarineLabs Data Systems as part of a network monitoring the Pacific Ocean's coastal conditions. Rogue waves, often called "freak waves," are rare, unpredictable phenomena that can arise suddenly in open water, posing significant dangers to marine operations and ships. Unlike tsunamis, which are caused by underwater earthquakes, rogue waves are not triggered by seismic activity but instead result from the convergence of multiple smaller waves, amplifying their energy. In this case, the wave was approximately three times higher than the typical 20-foot (6-meter) waves nearby, a size ratio that has never been seen before in recorded history. Gigantic Wave in Pacific Ocean Was The Most Extreme 'Rogue Wave' on Record https://t.co/9NZRyMBxNz — Paul Quibell-smith (@QuibellPaul) September 15, 2024 The record-setting wave off Ucluelet, a small town on Vancouver Island's west coast, was measured in real-time by a high-tech buoy located about four miles offshore. Scientists studying the event noted that such a rogue wave is expected to occur only once every 1,300 years, making this a once-in-a-millennium occurrence. MarineLabs CEO Dr. Scott Beatty explained that while rogue waves are rare, their unpredictability and sheer size make them incredibly dangerous. "Capturing this wave is a thrilling indicator of the power of coastal intelligence to transform marine safety," Beatty said. Gigantic Wave in Pacific Ocean Was The Most Extreme 'Rogue Wave' on Record https://t.co/9NZRyMBxNz — Paul Quibell-smith (@QuibellPaul) September 15, 2024 The scientific community has been fascinated by rogue waves ever since the first one was confirmed in 1995 off the coast of Norway. Known as the Draupner wave, it reached 84 feet (25.6 meters), but it was only about twice the height of surrounding waves. The Ucluelet wave's extreme size relative to its environment has earned it the title of the most extreme rogue wave ever recorded. Researchers at the University of Victoria, who analyzed the data from MarineLabs, have since published their findings in the Scientific Reports journal. Dr. Johannes Gemmrich, one of the lead scientists, emphasized the significance of this discovery in understanding ocean dynamics. Rogue waves have long been a mystery due to their unexpected nature, but this study sheds light on the conditions that may lead to their formation. The team hopes that ongoing monitoring efforts will help predict such waves in the future, potentially reducing their threat to maritime activities. Climate change may also play a role in the increasing frequency of extreme waves. Some scientists predict that as ocean temperatures rise, the conditions that foster rogue waves could become more common. While it's impossible to say for certain when another wave of this magnitude might occur, ongoing research and improved sensor technology will continue to track and study these massive "walls of water". For now, the Ucluelet rogue wave stands as a record-breaking natural event, a powerful reminder of the ocean's untamed forces and the importance of advancing marine science to keep sailors and coastal communities safe.
