Democrat NYC Mayor Eric Adams Strongly Defends Daniel Penny, Blasts Media

New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams strongly defended 26-year-old former U.S. Marine Daniel Penny, who’s been charged in the death of Jordan Neely. Penny restrained Neely, a troubled man with a lengthy criminal record and a history of mental health issues, after Neely allegedly threatened passengers on a subway last year. “We’re now on the subway where we’re hearing someone talking about hurting people, killing people,” Adams said, referring to Neely’s alleged threatening behavior. “You have someone [Penny] on that subway who was responding, doing what we should have done as a city.” “Those passengers were afraid,” Adams emphasized, speaking to former New York gubernatorial candidate and radio host Rob Astorino. The mayor also referenced the mental health crisis in NYC. “Then you look at the complete failure of our mental health system, a complete failure from the days of closing psychiatric wards and having those who needed help just turned over into the street without giving any safety net to accept them.” In 2022, Adams faced criticism from the far-Left when he announced a plan to hospitalize some severely mentally ill people involuntarily, noting the city’s “moral obligation to act.” Adams also accused the media of downplaying Neely’s alleged threatening behavior by promoting photos of a youthful Neely working as a Michael Jackson impersonator. CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE “Look at the photo that they used to show the victim,” Adams said, “It seemed like it was a young innocent child who was brutally murdered, and it gave that impression when you look at the photo that was being used. It wanted to set up in the minds of people that we were dealing with a young innocent child that was, you know, just a Michael Jackson [impersonator].” Neely, however, has a criminal record and a history of mental health issues. According to several witnesses, he threatened the subway train and made it clear he was willing to die or go to prison for life, if necessary. It was also found that Neely had K2 and other drugs in his system when he died. K2 is a synthetic drug, sometimes called “spice,” which has been linked to psychosis. Penny has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide in Neely’s death and could face up to 15 years behind bars. Jury deliberations in the case are expected to start Tuesday. Related: Closing Arguments In Daniel Penny Trial: Prosecution Claims Racial Bias, Defense Defends Heroism

South Korea’s President Lifts ‘Emergency Martial Law’ Decree

South Korea’s President Lifts ‘Emergency Martial Law’ Decree

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said early Wednesday morning local time that he has lifted the “emergency martial law” decree that he signed into effect just six hours earlier. “I declared emergency martial law at 11 p.m. last night as an act of national resolve against the anti-state forces that are trying to paralyze the essential functions of the state and disrupt the constitutional order of our liberal democracy,” he said in a statement. “However, a short time ago, the National Assembly demanded that martial law be lifted, so I withdrew the military forces that had been deployed to carry out martial law,” he continued, “I will lift martial law as soon as we have a quorum in the cabinet. It’s early in the morning, so we don’t have a quorum yet.” Yoon’s decision to end the martial came after 190 members of South Korea’s 300 National Assembly members quickly gathered for an emergency session in which all 190 voted to block the move. He called on the National Assembly to “immediately stop the outrageous behavior that is paralyzing the functioning of the country with impeachments, legislative manipulation and budget manipulation.” The decree from Yoon, who has seen his approval ratings plummet in recent months, comes after the country ended its military dictatorship in the 1980s. The New York Times noted that the conservative president won his election by campaigning on being tougher toward North Korea and calling for strengthening the country’s alliance with the U.S. Yoon declared martial law in an attempt to bring an end to the paralysis in operating the government that was caused by the National Assembly being won by the opposing party, the country’s Democratic Party, earlier this year. In his speech announcing the martial law, Yoon said that the political opposition inside the country had paralyzed the government’s ability to operate by initiating 22 impeachment proceedings against government officials over the last six months in addition to nearly a dozen more that were planned. CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE “This is a situation that is not only unprecedented in any country in the world, but has never been seen since the founding of our country,” he said late on Tuesday night local time. “It is paralyzing the judiciary by intimidating judges and impeaching a number of prosecutors, and it is paralyzing the executive branch by trying to impeach the Minister of the Interior, the Chairman of the Communications Commission, the Chair of the Board of Audit, and the Defense Minister.” He said that the country’s security was being weakened by members of the National Assembly who had “undermined the essential functions of the state” by cutting key measures from the country’s national budget. He added that the country’s Democratic Party had a “legislative dictatorship” that it was using “as a means of political struggle.” He said the National Assembly had turned into a “den of criminals” that was committing “obvious anti-state act[s]” and plotting “insurrection.” Yoon said martial law was needed “to defend the free Republic of Korea from the threats of North Korean communist forces and to eradicate the shameless pro-North Korean anti-state forces that are plundering the freedom and happiness of our people and to protect the free constitutional order.” CNN said that the South Korean public was upset over the way Yoon handled a tragedy after he was elected when more than 150 people were crushed to death at a Halloween party. The report said there was also a controversy involving a designer handbag that his wife, Kim Keon See, was accused of accepting valued at more than the $750 limit. House Democrats Scrub X Post Mocking Voters’ Inflation Worries After Backlash

The managers of the official X account for the House Ways and Means Committee Democrats quickly deleted a post on Tuesday that mocked Americans for complaining about the economy and inflation. The Democrats’ account reposted a report on shoppers spending a record amount of money on Black Friday. The Ways and Means Committee commented on the report, “And here we were thinking y’all couldn’t afford eggs!” This appears to have been deleted by Ways and Means Committee Democrats. pic.twitter.com/70Ium9sDpe — Anthony Adragna (@AnthonyAdragna) December 3, 2024 Social media users blasted the Ways and Means Committee Democrats for the post dismissing concerns about the economy less than a month after the party was dealt a major electoral defeat, largely due to how Americans view the economy under President Joe Biden. In three years under Biden, egg prices spiked 52.6% in the U.S., Fox Business reported in March. “As I said it’s built into their DNA to blame voters for rejecting them, as opposed to self reflection of their message and policies. They won’t change because they can’t change,” wrote political commentator Stephen L. Miller. “They never learn,” said House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN). House Republican Claudia Tenney of New York, who sits on the Ways and Means Committee, penned a Humpty Dumpty poem criticizing her Democratic colleagues for the post. Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Egg prices soared—he couldn’t afford it all! Ways and Means Dems tweeted with smiles so wide, While the cost of eggs kept rising high! Humpty Dumpty cracked in despair, “These prices, these prices, they’re too much to bear!” Democrats laugh, they don’t seem to care, But we’re stuck paying more for eggs in high-cost despair! Around 40% of voters in the 2024 election placed the economy at the top of the list of issues facing the country, according to AP VoteCast, a survey of more than 110,000 voters across the U.S. CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE During the campaign, President-elect Donald Trump focused much of his attention on addressing inflation and economic woes under Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and it paid off. According to the AP VoteCast survey, “Those who said inflation was the most important factor for their vote were almost twice as likely to support Trump over Harris, and about 6 in 10 voters who said the economy and jobs were the most important issue facing the country were in his camp.”

The Great When Is Getting Adapted and Alan Moore Is Excited(!) About It

News The Great When The Great When Is Getting Adapted and Alan Moore Is Excited(!) About It The author is confident that his adaptation disappointment is coming to an end By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on December 3, 2024 Credit: Alan Moore photo from Fimb, CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons Comment 0 Share New Share Credit: Alan Moore photo from Fimb, CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons Alan Moore, the creative mind behind Watchmen, is notorious for hating adaptations of his work. His tune, however, is markedly different for the announced series adaptation of his recently published fantasy novel, The Great When. “For the first time in my career, I’m genuinely excited and enthusiastic about a work of mine… one that I own, and believe could work marvelously in a different medium… being adapted for the screen,” Moore told Deadline, who broke the news that the studio Playground had secured the rights to the novel, the first in a five-book Long London series the author has already mapped out. “In Playground, I feel that I’ve connected with people who respect both me and the narrative and are receptive to such input as I can offer,” Moore added. “And, given Playground’s track record, I have little doubt that this will be anything short of spectacular. It’s taken me some time, but I think at last I’m ready for my closeup.” Playground is the production house behind the Wolf Hall adaptation and other British period series, including the popular All Creatures Great and Small. The Great When also falls in the British period piece bucket. Here’s the official synopsis: Amidst the smog of post-WWII London emerges Dennis Knuckleyard, a young clerk employed by a second-hand bookshop. One day, on an errand to acquire books for sale, Dennis comes into the possession of a novel that simply does not exist. It is a fictitious book from the Great When, a nightmarish, imaginary realm that is the supernatural counterpart to the city Dennis calls home. Dennis has to return the book or get killed. Soon he finds himself at the center of an explosive series of events, navigating a new realm of criminals, artists and occult figures that puts his life at risk and may alter and endanger both Londons forever… The deal is a new one, so the project is still in its early days, though Playground has said they see this as a multi-season series.[end-mark] The post The Great When Is Getting Adapted and Alan Moore Is Excited(!) Deeper: Tom Cruise to Team Up with Director Doug Liman Once Again in Supernatural Thriller

News Deeper Deeper: Tom Cruise to Team Up with Director Doug Liman Once Again in Supernatural Thriller After several attempts to get this project off the ground, could this be the winning combo? By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on December 3, 2024 Screenshot: Warner Bros. Comment 0 Share New Share Screenshot: Warner Bros. Tom Cruise is suiting up to star in the movie Deeper, which has Doug Liman in the director’s chair. The film is still in the early development stages, and Liman shared the news (via Deadline) at a New York City screening of the documentary, Gaucho Gaucho. Deeper, which has been in development limbo for almost a decade, centers on “an astronaut who encounters a terrifying force while on a deep dive into a never-before-explored trench.” Why that person, presumably Cruise, is described as an astronaut when he’s diving in the sea isn’t clear. Maybe this is an ocean on another planet? Or maybe the space folks had to be called in to explore the trench for movie reasons? Perhaps that’s the real mystery of Deeper, with the Cthulhu-esque force presumably dwelling in that trench being something more knowable. The movie was originally in development in 2016 with Bradley Cooper attached, and another iteration was in the works after that with Idris Elba in the starring role. This grouping of Liman and Cruise is reportedly the third attempt, and the two have worked together previously on films like Edge of Tomorrow (where you can see Cruise pictured above) and American Made. The film is still very much in its early days—Deadline couldn’t even confirm if Deeper is Liman’s next project—so no news yet on if/when the movie will go into production.[end-mark] The post Deeper: Tom Cruise to Team Up with Director Doug Liman Once Again in Supernatural Thriller appeared first on Reactor.
