A new Apple ad for its AirPods Pro 2’s hearing aid feature is getting a lot of attention online as viewers say it’s the perfect antidote to woke advertising which has become far too commonplace. The pro-family ad, called “Heartstrings,” is making many viewers emotional. Instead of portraying the family patriarch as a bumbling fool, this ad puts a father with hearing loss at the center of a message that depicts a loving family in addition to promoting a product. The two-minute commercial opens with a family unwrapping gifts on Christmas morning. The father, who sits on the couch while the family opens presents around him, is presented as having some level of hearing loss. The muffled sounds of wrapping paper and people talking around him help the viewer understand his disability. Then, the father puts in the AirPods and turns up the hearing aid feature, making the sound clear. When disaster strikes, we want a team of supportive people to be there for us. Luckily, the James City County Fire Department had the perfect people on their side during an unusual time of need. The week before Thanksgiving, a fire started underneath a parking lot at the Williamsburg Premium Outlets. As much as the local fire department tried, putting out the fire by themselves was not working. Luckily, the City of Newport Fire Department was more than willing to join them in extinguishing this ongoing fire. They also had the help of a contractor who had been hired by the property owner. So, while it took five days to put out the fire, it was cleared just in time for the holidays. “We don’t run underground fires all that often. Certainly not to the scale of three acres and 12 feet deep,” fire chief Ryan Ashe says. “Luckily all of our partners here helped us manage this incident.
