Al Green releases amazing cover of R.E.M’s “Everybody Hurts”

The legendary American Soul, R&B and Gospel singer Al Green released an incredible cover of R.E.M's hit "Everybody Hurts". There’s always a presence of light that can break through those times of darkness.” R.E.M's vocalist Michael Stipe also talked about the version, saying: "Speaking on behalf of the entire band — we could not be more honored, more flattered, more humbled. This is an epic moment for us." Jason Bonham is surprised after being fired by Sammy Hagar

The drummer Jason Bonham, son of Led Zeppelin's John Bonham, has been a member of Sammy Hagar's band since 2014. A few months ago, he had to leave the band's current tour because his mother was in the hospital fighting for her life. Sammy Hagar recruited the drummer Kenny Aronoff to finish the tour and he decided to continue with the American drummer. In an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock he talked about this situation. Jason Bonham is surprised after being fired by Sammy Hagar "I was trying to answer fans, really, because they were asking me, 'Why aren't you involved with the new thing they're recording?' and saying, 'Aren't you gonna do it again?' 'I was let go, so, no.' Sammy rang me awhile ago. He was asking about my mom, but then he said, 'Y'know, I'm not gonna do much next year,' blah, blah blah, 'and I'm gonna go with Kenny.' I was a little shocked, I must say. I'd be lying to you if I wasn't a little sad, because we were on fire at the end of the tour. And I got a little upset. That was strange, after 10 years of being with him." "Listen, I love the guy to bits. I don't wish him any ill. I still speak to him. Honestly, the guy has taught me so much — about business, being positive. I'm an English guy; I can be really negative half the time. Even if the sun is shining, 'but it could rain.' He really helped me in that aspect big-time, and business sense and never taking no for an answer, always believing in yourself." "So, yeah, I had a great 10 years. He allowed me to always do what I wanted to do. When my thing would get busy he always gave me the space. I couldn't ask for more," Jason Bonham said. Besides Sammy Hagar and Kenny Aronoff, Sammy's band is currently formed by guitarist Joe Satriani and bassist Michael Anthony. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGLcU81H8o4&pp=ygUQc2FtbXkgaGFnYXIgMjAyNA%3D%3DThe post Jason Bonham is surprised after being fired by Sammy Hagar appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Pete Townshend talks about his battle with depression

Depression is a serious issue and can affect anyone, regardless of whether you're famous, rich, or have almost everything you may desire. The legendary The Who guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend battles depression for decades already and told the Sunday Times that he even has suicidal thoughts on a daily basis. Pete Townshend talks about his battle with depression “When I first wake up I’m suicidal, actually suicidal." So he explained that waking up quite early, between 2 and 5am helps him because he is “still in the state that I was the day before”. “I have a couple of cups of tea, two digestive biscuits — apparently equal to 17 sugar lumps — and I feel happy. If I start my journals before I have my cup of tea, I’ll paint a very bleak picture of my life. Despite the fact that I have everything that I want and everything that I need … And I have had a really extraordinary life.” He also explained why therapy didn't work: “After the third year, I realized that the woman counseling me had only said about three words. I was just listening to myself. So now I just write journals. Every morning I rebuild myself in a sense with tea and coffee, and a few vitamin pills.” “I think because of social media in particular, the way that we carelessly share not only our anxieties but also perhaps our solutions. We’re a bit careless about that because what works for me won’t necessarily work for you,” Pete Townshend said. Depression is a disease, so ask for help, go to see a psychiatrist, a psychologist. If you know someone who is not feeling good, listen to them and give them the emotional support they need. The post Pete Townshend talks about his battle with depression appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Paul McCartney’s opinion on Frank Sinatra

Paul McCartney’s opinion on Frank Sinatra

The Beatles were formed in 1960 in Liverpool, England and became during that decade the biggest band in the world. The incredible chemistry Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr had was crucial for their success. All of them were inspired by a huge variety of musicians and bands, which were an important part of their development as musicians. One of those inspirations, at least for Paul McCartney, was also the legendary American singer Frank Sinatra. The Beatle even revealed once which was one of his favorite songs of the late vocalist. What is Paul McCartney's opinion on Frank Sinatra When The Beatles were formed, Frank Sinatra had already been in the music business for 25 years and he was 45 years old. Paul McCartney liked his music and in an interview with Uncut magazine back in 2004, he revealed that one of his favorite Sinatra songs was “A Lovely Way to Spend an Evening”. It is a popular song with music made by Jimmy McHugh and lyrics by Harold Adamson, published in 1943. It was used in the movie "Higher and Higher" (1944) when it was sung by Sinatra. That version was really successful and appeared on the charts during that year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1nVibkdDVM&pp=ygUgQSBMb3ZlbHkgV2F5IHRvIFNwZW5kIGFuIEV2ZW5pbmc%3D Curiously, a few decades later, Sinatra called McCartney and asked him if he had a song for him. He talked about that in an interview (transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage) "I was once rung up by the great Frank Sinatra himself. I was in the studio when the phone call came. 'It's Frank Sinatra for you'. So I said 'Hello, Frank' and (asked me if I had a song because he heard about me). I said 'I've got just the song, Frank'." "I'll send it over, because as a songwriter you hope he will ask you one day. So I had one ready, but he turned it down. I think it had something to do with the fact it was called 'Suicide'. (So) I don't think it was catchy (laughs). I thought it was quite good, you know. I wrote it when I was quite young, (with) this kind of cabaret (rhythm, like Sinatra)," Paul McCartney said. Frank Sinatra covered a few Beatles songs The Beatles are the most successful and influential band of all time and because of that became also one of the most covered bands of all time. Frank Sinatra covered a few tracks like "Something" and "Yesterday". In an interview with Jarvis Cocker at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts back in 2018 (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage), McCartney talked about artists who covered The Beatles. He said it was funny because artists like Sinatra changed some parts of the lyrics. “So I said to one of our guys ‘Johnny, can you get me like the top 10? Just give me the sort of top ten best ones’. So I listened to all of them. They were great. It was like Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Marvin Gaye – very cool, Ray Charles and the list went on. Amazing people, amazing versions. It’s a funny thing though. When I listened through them it was Frank, Elvis and I think Marvin, who changed the lyrics a little bit.” “In the middle I go ‘Why she had to go, I don’t know, she wouldn’t say, I said something wrong…’. They changed to ‘Why she had to go, I don’t know, she wouldn’t say, I MUST HAVE SAID something wrong.’ Like you know, ‘Disclaimer! I don’t think I did, maybe. They say I did. But I don’t think I did’. I’m Frank Sinatra! I’m Elvis! (Laughs),” Paul McCartney told Jarvis Cocker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjjNaAX8Xj0&pp=ygUXZnJhbmsgc2luYXRyYSB5ZXN0ZXJkYXk%3D The post Paul McCartney’s opinion on Frank Sinatra appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.
