Now there’s an ‘anti-AI’ camera app for Android, too

Photo by Allison Johnson / The Verge If you’ve been looking to replace your Android phone’s camera app with one that doesn’t overprocess photos to alter lighting and detail in sometimes extreme ways, now there’s an option. Zerocam is a barebones app that promises to “shoot in RAW and process your photos to remove all artificial effects, delivering soft, pleasant-to-eye images.” We’ve been talking about the definition of a photo for years, and we’re not the only ones complaining about HDR processing that sometimes makes images seem flat because they lack contrast between light and dark. This app’s approach is similar to the Process Zero feature Halide offers within its iPhone camera app, but Zerocam goes a few steps further. This app doesn’t even have much of an interface:... Nintendo’s Black Friday sale has discounts on Switch games and controllers

Image: Nintendo Nintendo games rarely see big discounts, but the holiday shopping season always proves a good opportunity to save on some contemporary classics. After initially offering special holiday bundles of its Switch consoles, Nintendo has also announced a Black Friday sale on various games and controllers set to begin November 24th and run through the 30th. Major Nintendo titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and more will be $20 off at retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart once the sale commences. Starbucks now offers delivery in its own app

Get your red cup delivered straight to your door. | Photo: Starbucks A new way to spend $10 on a 12-ounce coffee just dropped. Starting today, Starbucks is accepting delivery orders right inside its app. Delivery is handled by DoorDash, and right now, it’s limited to “participating stores” in the US and Canada. But if you’re in the delivery area and willing to pay a small fortune in fees, getting your Starbucks order into your hands has never been easier. Starbucks has been offering delivery through DoorDash in the US since early last year, but only within Doordash’s app. Previously, order ahead options in the Starbucks app were limited to in-store and drive-through pickup. Now, you can toggle between pickup and delivery. Placing a delivery order brings up an interface identical to the one on DoorDash’s... Continue reading…

Feel good app Portal updated with widgets, new landscapes, and macOS Sequoia support

Portal for Mac is one of my favorite apps on the Mac App Store. Created by indie developers from Portal Labs, it aims to help people care for their well-being even when they have to be in front of a screen for countless hours each day. To do that, you can select between three options (Focus, Create, and Escape), and the app will help you set the tone with dozens of landscapes that can help you focus on a task, feel more creative, or just relax for a moment. By taking over your wallpaper with cinematic and vivid landscapes, Portal for Mac uses spatial audio to immerse you in breathtaking views while working, studying, and relaxing. These views range from Old Packhorse Bridge in Dartmond, UK, to the beauties of a Night Cloud Forest in Costa Rica. In the past few weeks, they have updated Portal to take full advantage of macOS Sequoia. In addition, they recently released a new version of the app with new landscapes, widget support, multi-display panning, and more. These are the highlights: Portal for Mac now offers widget support. Image source: José Adorno for BGR Desktop widgets: Portal for Mac adds widget support with two options, now Playing and Open Portal; Reorderable Favorites: Organize your favorite portals exactly how you like. Drag and drop them in whatever order you prefer; Offline Playback: Users can download their favorite portals and enjoy them wherever they are; Start Playback on launch: Combine the "Launch at the login" option, and Portal will be there every time you start your Mac; Multi-display Spanning: Portal for Mac lets you span 8K motion visuals across multiple displays; Intelligent framing: Whether you work in landscape, portrait, or ultra-wide, Portal's visuals always look their best with Intelligent Framing; New Costa Rica collection: A new Costa Rica collection takes you right into the heart of Costa Rica’s pristine rainforests. The developers say these images were captured to " evoke feelings of escape, exploration, and soft fascination; it draws on the latest research on the restorative power of nature on our minds." A little more about Portal for Mac Image source: José Adorno for BGR According to the developers, Portal for Mac has a unique approach for users willing to focus and relax. "While most productivity apps look inwards at how our habits and behaviors can make us more productive, we focus on looking outwards and at the impact that our surroundings have on how we think, feel & act.” The idea behind Portal for Mac is to instantly transform any space into a “beautiful haven for productive work.” The developers say that more than just finding ways to focus on several tasks, studies show that improving the environment we live and work in can help improve that in the long term. Portal for Mac is available via the Mac App Store with a free 7-day trial for all customers. It costs $69.99 (annual) or $12.99 (Monthly). You can also buy a lifetime pass for a one-off cost of $299.99. In addition, all subscriptions include full access to both Portal for Mac and iOS. Galaxy S25 release date might have leaked in a survey

Galaxy S25 release date might have leaked in a survey

Samsung has yet to share any official information about its next flagship phone, but that hasn't stopped the internet from unearthing numerous details about the Galaxy S25. We have already heard that the Galaxy S25 will ship with a slim model to rival the iPhone 17 Air, a major upgrade for Bixby, and seamless updates. Now, amidst all these rumors, Samsung itself seems to have leaked the release date for the new phone via an online survey. As spotted by Android Police, Samsung recently started sending out a survey in Vietnamese in order to gauge interest in potential promotional offers for its 2025 Galaxy S. One X user shared screenshots of the survey which included a very interesting detail. The survey does not mention the phone by name, but it does claim that anyone who completes the survey will receive a 10% discount on January 5, 2025. It doesn't specify what the discount is for, either, but we are willing to bet it's for the Galaxy S25, which might be announced that day. https://twitter.com/pnk505/status/1856291194323767662 Android Police points out that the Galaxy S24 launched on January 31, 2024, while the Galaxy S23 made its debut on February 17, 2023. If our hunch about the survey is correct, Samsung is about to move the release date up for the third year in a row. This is no guarantee that the Galaxy S25 will launch on January 5, 2025. After all, it's a Sunday, and Samsung usually announces new hardware on weekdays. That said, if a Galaxy Unpacked event is less than two months away, we should hear something from Samsung soon. According to all the latest rumors, the Galaxy S25 lineup will look virtually the same as the S24 series. Other than some alterations to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, don't expect any significant design changes. As for specs, there's a good chance the new models will feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chips, at least 12GB of RAM, and the same camera setup as last year. Don't Miss: Galaxy S25 Slim to feature an Ultra camera, but what does that even mean? The post Galaxy S25 release date might have leaked in a survey appeared first on BGR. Ancient Necropolis Found at Kastel Fortress in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s historic Kastel Fortress is one of the rare locations in Europe with layers dating from the early Stone Age (before 10,000 years BC) through multiple eras leading up to the 20th century. The latest round of excavations at the site revealed the presence of an ancient necropolis of an undetermined age, as radio-carbon dating will need to be conducted to determine the cemetery’s true antiquity. In addition, the archaeologists involved in this discovery also found an ancient coin, which they’ve been able to date all the way back to the 4th century BC. Following the Excavations: A Mish-Mash of Many Layers As one of the most visited sites in central and eastern Europe, the fortress at Kastel is now the national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the oldest historical monument in the city of Banja Luka, which is located in the thickly-forested Bosanska Krajina region of northwestern Bosnia. Kastel is believed to have been constructed over the remains of a Roman settlement known as Castra. Excavations were first carried out there in the 1980s, and over the years they have followed both an interesting and unusual trajectory.
