Jason Reitman, Finn Wolfhard, and Billy Bryk Want to Remake Idle Hands

News Idle Hands Jason Reitman, Finn Wolfhard, and Billy Bryk Want to Remake Idle Hands The devil finds work for idle hands By Molly Templeton | Published on November 12, 2024 Screenshot: Sony Pictures Comment 0 Share New Share Screenshot: Sony Pictures Have you ever, in your life, thought to yourself, Self, I really wish they’d remake that Devon Sawa/Seth Green movie about a possessed hand? This just doesn’t seem like a common train of thought. But here we are: Variety reports that producer Jason Reitman is teaming up with Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk to remake Idle Hands. Wolfhard and Bryk are writing the film, and “are being eyed to direct” following the festival success of their film Hell of a Summer. The original 1999 Idle Hands was directed by Rodman Flender, who has somewhat more recently directed episodes of On Becoming a God in Central Florida and Scream: The TV Series. Screenwriters Terri Hughes Burton and Ron Milbauer went on to some pretty well-known things: She’s written and produced Star Trek: Discovery and The 100; he’s a consulting producer on The Handmaid‘s Tale and also The 100. Idle Hands was rather less popular. It made $1.8 million on opening weekend (almost $19 million less than the truly terrible Sean Connery/Catherine Zeta-Jones film Entrapment), and, according to Box Office Mojo, grossed barely more than $4 million total. It starred Sawa, Green, a very young Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), Jessica Alba, Vivica A. Fox, and Jack Noseworthy, which is truly a name I haven’t heard in years. It was a stoner comedy about a teenager whose hand gets possessed. Some of the people it murders get turned into zombies. There is also a druidic priestess and, if the Wikipedia page is to be believed, some guardian angels. The Offspring song “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)” appears in the trailer, and the band appears in the movie; naturally, someone on the internet has written “A needlessly deep dive into The Offspring’s cameo in cult horror film Idle Hands” (their title, not my editorializing). My favorite of the many bad reviews of the movie notes, “Its mixture of slapstick humour and gore — produced by the flying fingers — gives new meaning to the phrase digital effects.” As Alex Brown writes in their appreciation of campy teen slasher flicks, “Hating on Idle Hands or Cherry Falls for being terrible movies is easy, but completely misses the point that they’re supposed to be terrible.” So obviously we can’t leave perfect trash alone and instead must give it a remake. No casting or production timeline has been announced.[end-mark] The post Jason Reitman, Finn Wolfhard, and Billy Bryk Want to Remake Idle Hands appeared first on Reactor.

Judge Pauses All Deadlines in Trump’s NY Case Based on Election Win

DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—Judge Juan Merchan paused all deadlines in President-elect Donald Trump’s New York case—including the sentencing date scheduled for later this month. Merchan, an acting justice on the New York state Supreme Court, granted a joint request by prosecutors and defense attorneys to pause the case until Nov. 19, pushing off his decision on Trump’s motion to toss the verdict based on presidential immunity, which he previously was slated to issue a ruling on Tuesday. 2024-11-10-COURT order-filedDownload Merchan directed prosecutors to submit their view of “appropriate steps going forward” in a filing by next week. Prosecutors requested Merchan pause proceedings to allow them to evaluate the impact of Trump’s election victory. BREAKING: Justice Merchan has granted a request from prosecutions/defense to pause deadlines — including Trump's sentencing date — while they consider the effect of his election as president. https://t.co/LaeJlAyTDi pic.twitter.com/SAHVbo3HbG— Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) November 12, 2024 “The People agree that these are unprecedented circumstances and that the arguments raised by defense counsel in correspondence to the People on Friday require careful consideration to ensure that any further steps in this proceeding appropriately balance the competing interests of (1) a jury verdict of guilt following trial that has the presumption of regularity; and (2) the Office of the President,” prosecutor Matthew Colangelo wrote in an email Sunday to Merchan. Trump’s defense attorneys joined the request, arguing dismissal of the case is required to “avoid unconstitutional impediments to President Donald Trump’s ability to govern.” “At the request of the Manhattan DA, Judge Merchan has now stayed all previously scheduled deadlines, including sentencing in this case,” Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement. “The American people have reelected President Donald Trump with an overwhelming mandate to Make America Great Again. It is now abundantly clear that Americans want an immediate end to the weaponization of our justice system, including this case, which should have never been filed, so we can, as President Donald Trump said in his historic victory speech, unify our country and work together for the betterment of our nation.” In Trump’s federal election-interference case, the judge also granted special counsel Jack Smith’s request to pause pending deadlines. Multiple reports indicate the Department of Justice is already considering how to wind down its cases against Trump as he gets ready to take office on Jan. 20. Justice Department policy prevents the criminal prosecution of sitting presidents. Protests Break Out Across US in Response to Trump Winning the Election

Leading up to the 2024 presidential election, most people believed there would be postelection violence. Outlet upon outlet reported on polls revealing just how concerned Americans were that no matter who became president-elect, anger, frustration, fear, and acts of protests would follow. A Scripps News/Ipsos poll found that over 60% of Americans believed this would be the case, with concerns highest in battleground states. And while serious violence has yet to be reported, the protests have, in fact, commenced. Between Friday and Saturday, a surge of protests swept across the country in response to Donald Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris. Washington, D.C.; Pittsburgh; New York City; Portland, and Seattle saw hundreds to thousands of protesters who all gathered to vent their frustration over last week’s election results. Some of the points of grievance the demonstrators highlighted had to do with abortion, immigration, and the war between Israel and Hamas. A number of protests included women carrying signs that promoted abortion. Outside of The Heritage Foundation in D.C., protesters held signs that read, “Well-behaved women don’t make history” and “Where’s my liberty when I have no choice?” They were also heard chanting: “We believe that we will win!” Similar demonstrations were seen in Pennsylvania where signs stated: “We are not going back” and “My body, my choice.” In the Big Apple, a wave of people protested Trump’s proposed plans concerning the mass deportation of illegal immigrants. Signs read: “We protect us” and “We won’t back down.” Protesters also reportedly chanted, “Here we are and we’re not leaving!” These cries come as Trump has proposed to enforce strict border policies to help manage the crisis that has been ongoing for the last four years. Millions of illegal immigrants have entered into the country under President Joe Biden, and Trump has stated his plans to deport those who enter America illegally while welcoming migrants who enter legally. The protests in Seattle surrounded the war in the Middle East, calling Israel’s defense against Hamas “repression and genocide.” People in Portland, on the other hand, made calls to “Turn fear into fight” as they “Fight fascism.” An organizer with Socialist Alternative, Steve Capri, told WPXI TV, “We are afraid of what’s coming, but we are not going to back down. Trump is an attack on all of us so we need to unite, we need to get organized, join movements, study and learn together.” These concerns come less than a week after Trump won the election by securing all seven battleground states, the electoral vote, and the popular vote. In response to the outbreak of protests, David Closson, director of Family Research Council’s Center for Biblical Worldview, shared with The Washington Stand how it’s unsurprising that Trump’s “unexpected dominance” last week “provoked the usual handwringing from his opponents.” He went on to say how, clearly, “there are many people who are upset about the outcome of the election, and some of these people took to the streets over the weekend to express their displeasure.” “Ironically,” Closson added, “some of the policy positions protested are ones that will likely be unaffected by the incoming administration.” And yet, “for Christians paying attention to the news, we should be unsurprised that our friends and neighbors feel strongly about some of these issues” such as issues related to life, Israel, and immigration. “I’ve said it before, but politics matters because policy matters because, ultimately, people matter,” he noted. “As we head towards Inauguration Day, it will be important for Christians to embody the principle of Ephesians 4:15 that says we speak the truth in love.” “As Christians,” Closson concluded, “we ought to have love for our political opponents who are reacting to an outcome that they are upset about. But we should also continue to articulate the policy positions we believe will lead to the most human flourishing.” Originally published by The Washington Stand The post Protests Break Out Across US in Response to Trump Winning the Election appeared first on The Daily Signal.
