Judge Delays Decision On Trump’s Immunity In Hush Money Case

A New York judge has pushed back a decision on whether to dismiss President-elect Donald Trump’s hush money case now that he is set for his second presidential term. Judge Juan Merchan has set a date of November 19 to consider whether the case against Trump should be dismissed because of presidential immunity, which was defined by the Supreme Court earlier this year. The delay will give prosecutors time to respond to the Trump team’s argument that the case against the president-elect should be dismissed, according to The Hill. “The stay, and dismissal, are necessary to avoid unconstitutional impediments to President Trump’s ability to govern,” Trump attorney Emil Bove said in an email to Merchan. The Trump team found some common ground with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, which said that the arguments raised in light of the election “require careful consideration.” “The People agree that these are unprecedented circumstances and that the arguments raised by defense counsel in correspondence to the People on Friday require careful consideration to ensure that any further steps in this proceeding appropriately balance the competing interests of (1) a jury verdict of guilt following trial that has the presumption of regularity; and (2) the Office of the President,” prosecutor Matthew Colangelo wrote to Merchan, according to NBC News. MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ NOW STREAMING ON DAILYWIRE+ “Accordingly, the People respectfully request that the Court adjourn the upcoming scheduled dates to afford the People time to assess these recent developments, and set November 19. 2024 as a deadline for the People to advise the Court regarding our view of appropriate steps,” he added. Trump’s sentencing in the case has been scheduled for November 26. Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in relation to a hush money payment made to Stephanie Clifford, better known by her stage name, Stormy Daniels, for her career in pornography. The Supreme Court ruled in May that presidents are immune from prosecution in cases involving official acts that are part of a president’s “core constitutional powers.” Presidential immunity may not apply in cases outside of that, however. “The president enjoys no immunity for his unofficial acts, and not everything the president does is official. The president is not above the law,” Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the decision. “But Congress may not criminalize the president’s conduct in carrying out the responsibilities of the Executive Branch under the Constitution.”

Happy Capybaras Munch On Hay-Filled Toy In Silly Video

If you’re having a rough day, why not unwind with these capybaras at playtime? Pine Meadow Farm shared the most adorable video of their fuzzy friends enjoying a Jolly Ball from Horsemen’s Pride. This interactive toy was filled with hay, which meant that these critters had to work for their snack. Not only did the animals love their tasty treat, but they also had fun eating it! In the clip, two capybaras shared a Jolly Ball stuffed with hay. They looked totally blissful as they ripped chunks of dried grass out of the toy to crunch on. Each bite sent the ball bouncing or rolling away so that the creatures had to chase after it. Good food and good exercise — what’s not to like? You can watch the video here. @pinemeadowfarm Use code: PINEMEADOWALPACAFARM on @horsemenspride website to get 10% off your entire order!! #capybara #Animals #animalseating #enrichment ♬ original sound – Pine Meadow Farm – Pine Meadow Farm Commenters loved watching these peaceful capybaras eating their snack. One person especially loved hearing their gentle chewing noises. “Best ASMR!” they wrote. Another user added, “Love to see them both just munching away.” Even Horsemen’s Pride, the company that sent the farm a Jolly Ball, chimed in. “Now this is what we needed to see today!” they said. This farm provides plenty of enrichment for their animals. Earlier, Pine Meadow Farms posted an unboxing video of all the interactive products that the brand had sent them. They received a variety of fun toys for all of their animals, not just the capybaras! After opening the package, the farmers decided to test out the items on their four-legged friends. Resident bulls, donkeys, and goats all seemed to love their new playthings! Watch the clip here. @pinemeadowfarm Thank you so much @horsemenspride! for the package our animals are enjoying them so much! #horse #horseenrichment #enrichment #horsetoys #jollyball ♬ som original – Renata Carvalho Just like food and water, animals need enrichment in order to thrive. According to The Livestock Project, creatures in captivity often require a little encouragement to engage in healthy behaviors that would come naturally to them in the wild. So, it’s important to provide them with toys and activities that promote these habits! It looks like the caregivers at Pine Meadow Farms are doing a great job keeping their capybaras and other animals occupied. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Click to Skip Ahead Tips for Getting Your Cat Used to a Harness How to Pick the Right Harness for Your Cat As creatures of habit, cats dislike change. Something as simple as moving their litter box can cause them to get anxious and start acting out. Now imagine how having to wear a harness feels, let alone being pushed to walk while attached to a leash. Most cats would freak out or at the very least, refuse to move. This doesn’t mean you can’t train a cat to walk on a harness, though, because you certainly can, and it’s worth a try! Harness training is a wonderful way to give your cat more freedom to explore the outside world. But before the adventures can start, you need to invest time in helping your cat get used to wearing one. Keep reading for 10 easy tips to do just that! Our 10 Tips for Getting Your Cat Used to a Harness 1. Introduce the Harness Slowly We mean slowly. Start by placing the harness near their favorite sleeping or play area, allowing them to explore and become familiar with it over a few days. This helps transform the harness from a foreign object to a familiar and non-threatening item in their environment. For example, if your cat loves sleeping in a specific corner or has a favorite toy, place the harness near these locations. Over time, you might find your cat sniffing or even playing with the harness, which indicates their curiosity and growing acceptance. Image Credit: Sergio Canovas, Shutterstock 2. Reward and Praise Them Positive reinforcement is key when helping your cat associate the harness with good things. Whenever they approach or investigate the harness, offer them treats and verbal praise. Gradually increase the level of interaction with the harness, such as touching it to your cat’s body or draping it over their back. Shower them with attention and yummy morsels every single time. It won’t be long before they think harness = awesome. 3. Practice Touching the Cat’s Body With the Harness Once your cat is desensitized to the harness’s presence, use it to touch different areas of their body, starting with the face, paws, and sides. Remember to pair the touching with a yummy treat. Take your time! Do not rush to put on the harness until your cat is perfectly comfortable with you touching them with it. Next, work on increasing the amount of time that you touch different areas of their body, such as for more than a couple of seconds, then proceed to practice putting on the harness. 4. Practice Putting on the Harness For this part, choose a quiet spot to keep your cat relaxed and comfortable. This is exactly the mindset you want, so they don’t fight the harness as you’re putting it on. Sit with them and let them sniff the harness again. Then slowly put the harness on, continuously praising and offering treats throughout the process. Remove the harness after a few seconds and repeat this exercise over several days to build positive associations with the harness. Image Credit: Katerina Dalemans, Shutterstock 5. Keep Sessions Short Avoid overwhelming your cat with lengthy harness training sessions. Begin with just a few minutes per day, and gradually increase the duration as they become more at ease with the harness. Always end training sessions on a positive note, whether it’s with a treat, pets, or a play session, to maintain your cat’s interest and motivation. 6. Let Them Wear the Harness Indoors Once your cat tolerates the harness, have them wear it around the house for short periods. Encourage your cat to engage in normal activities like playing, eating, and sleeping with the harness on to further strengthen positive associations. The goal is to render the harness “invisible,” a normal part of their routine. 7. Attach the Leash When your cat is comfortable wearing the harness indoors, start attaching the leash. Avoid pulling or tugging—let them explore and move around with the leash dragging behind them. This helps them get used to the extra weight and length of the leash. Only put on the leash for a few minutes at a time, with several practice sessions throughout the day. Stay in this stage for about a week. Taking your cat for a walk may sound challenging, but the right harness and leash can make all the difference! We recommend Hepper's Cat Harness & Leash Set because it combines important safety features with stylish and comfortable design elements. Hepper Cat Harness and Leash Escape Proof Set -... Escape Proof - Cat leashes and harnesses for walking aren't all equally secure. Our double aluminium...Superior Comfort - Our cat harnesses are lightweight, made with premium velvet fabric, breathable...Free Extra Strength Leash - You don't need to worry about your cat escaping this harness. At Catster, we’ve admired Hepper for many years and decided to take a controlling ownership interest so that we could benefit from the outstanding designs of this cool cat company! 8. Practice Gentle Leash Control Once your cat is comfortable wearing both the harness and the leash, you can begin guiding them around the house. Hold the leash gently, avoiding any dragging or forcing them in any direction. Instead, use toys or treats to encourage your cat to move with you, helping them understand the concept of following your lead. 9. Transition to the Outdoors Begin taking your cat outside by starting in a quiet, enclosed outdoor space, such as a backyard or balcony. Hold the leash, and let your cat explore at their own pace, offering treats and praise to make the experience enjoyable. Image Credit: Teksa, Shutterstock 10. Gradually Increase Exposure Over time, slowly introduce your cat to busier outdoor environments. Stay close to them and keep initial outings short. Be patient and attentive to their needs, monitoring their body language and reactions. If they seem scared or stressed, return inside and try again another day. Again, don’t force them to stay on the leash longer than they like. Doing so can undo all your hard work! Let your cat dictate the pace, and respect their limits. How to Pick the Right Harness for Your Cat Don’t have a harness yet, or your current one doesn’t fit well? Follow these steps to pick out the perfect one. 1. Measure Your Cat An ill-fitting harness isn’t just uncomfortable for your cat. It can also be dangerous because if it’s too loose, they may be able to escape the harness. If it’s too tight, it can irritate their skin or even cause injuries. Don’t trust your best guess here! Get a tape measure for accuracy! Gently wrap it around your cat’s neck and chest, then note down the measurements. Be sure to measure snugly but not too tightly. If your cat is afraid of the measuring tape, try using a soft ribbon, and then measure the ribbon. You are free to use this image but we do require you to link back to Catster.com for credit 2. Pick the Harness Type There are different types of harnesses you can buy: vest, H-style, and figure-eight. Your choice will depend on what you plan to do with your cat. For instance, if your cat is an escape artist, an H-style harness with a figure-eight design will prevent them from slipping out. If you’re planning to take your cat for long walks or a hike, a vest harness with a padded chest plate can provide extra support and comfort. 3. Think About the Material The harness material will impact your cat’s comfort and safety. As an example, nylon and mesh are light and breathable, but leather is more durable. 4. Look For Safety Features The more safety features your cat’s harness has, the better. Look for things like reflective material or bright colors that will make your cat more visible to drivers and pedestrians, especially at night. A harness with a sturdy D-ring or buckle will prevent your cat from breaking free or escaping while on walks. Velcro straps will make it easier to take it on and off your cat, especially if yours is fussy. Conclusion Getting your cat used to wearing a harness takes patience and work, but the results are so worth it! Imagine being able to take your buddy on hikes, on a walk along the neighborhood, or to the corner cafe so you two can relax outside. It can literally expand your cat’s world. Before you start training them, however, be careful about picking their harness. You want it to be comfy, secure, and packed with safety features. Don’t forget to buy tons of cat treats while you’re shopping for their harness. You’re going to need it! Jason Reitman, Finn Wolfhard, and Billy Bryk Want to Remake Idle Hands

News Idle Hands Jason Reitman, Finn Wolfhard, and Billy Bryk Want to Remake Idle Hands The devil finds work for idle hands By Molly Templeton | Published on November 12, 2024 Screenshot: Sony Pictures Comment 0 Share New Share Screenshot: Sony Pictures Have you ever, in your life, thought to yourself, Self, I really wish they’d remake that Devon Sawa/Seth Green movie about a possessed hand? This just doesn’t seem like a common train of thought. But here we are: Variety reports that producer Jason Reitman is teaming up with Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk to remake Idle Hands. Wolfhard and Bryk are writing the film, and “are being eyed to direct” following the festival success of their film Hell of a Summer. The original 1999 Idle Hands was directed by Rodman Flender, who has somewhat more recently directed episodes of On Becoming a God in Central Florida and Scream: The TV Series. Screenwriters Terri Hughes Burton and Ron Milbauer went on to some pretty well-known things: She’s written and produced Star Trek: Discovery and The 100; he’s a consulting producer on The Handmaid‘s Tale and also The 100. Idle Hands was rather less popular. It made $1.8 million on opening weekend (almost $19 million less than the truly terrible Sean Connery/Catherine Zeta-Jones film Entrapment), and, according to Box Office Mojo, grossed barely more than $4 million total. It starred Sawa, Green, a very young Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), Jessica Alba, Vivica A. Fox, and Jack Noseworthy, which is truly a name I haven’t heard in years. It was a stoner comedy about a teenager whose hand gets possessed. Some of the people it murders get turned into zombies. There is also a druidic priestess and, if the Wikipedia page is to be believed, some guardian angels. The Offspring song “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)” appears in the trailer, and the band appears in the movie; naturally, someone on the internet has written “A needlessly deep dive into The Offspring’s cameo in cult horror film Idle Hands” (their title, not my editorializing). My favorite of the many bad reviews of the movie notes, “Its mixture of slapstick humour and gore — produced by the flying fingers — gives new meaning to the phrase digital effects.” As Alex Brown writes in their appreciation of campy teen slasher flicks, “Hating on Idle Hands or Cherry Falls for being terrible movies is easy, but completely misses the point that they’re supposed to be terrible.” So obviously we can’t leave perfect trash alone and instead must give it a remake. No casting or production timeline has been announced.[end-mark] The post Jason Reitman, Finn Wolfhard, and Billy Bryk Want to Remake Idle Hands appeared first on Reactor.

Judge Pauses All Deadlines in Trump’s NY Case Based on Election Win

DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—Judge Juan Merchan paused all deadlines in President-elect Donald Trump’s New York case—including the sentencing date scheduled for later this month. Merchan, an acting justice on the New York state Supreme Court, granted a joint request by prosecutors and defense attorneys to pause the case until Nov. 19, pushing off his decision on Trump’s motion to toss the verdict based on presidential immunity, which he previously was slated to issue a ruling on Tuesday. 2024-11-10-COURT order-filedDownload Merchan directed prosecutors to submit their view of “appropriate steps going forward” in a filing by next week. Prosecutors requested Merchan pause proceedings to allow them to evaluate the impact of Trump’s election victory. BREAKING: Justice Merchan has granted a request from prosecutions/defense to pause deadlines — including Trump's sentencing date — while they consider the effect of his election as president. https://t.co/LaeJlAyTDi pic.twitter.com/SAHVbo3HbG— Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) November 12, 2024 “The People agree that these are unprecedented circumstances and that the arguments raised by defense counsel in correspondence to the People on Friday require careful consideration to ensure that any further steps in this proceeding appropriately balance the competing interests of (1) a jury verdict of guilt following trial that has the presumption of regularity; and (2) the Office of the President,” prosecutor Matthew Colangelo wrote in an email Sunday to Merchan. Trump’s defense attorneys joined the request, arguing dismissal of the case is required to “avoid unconstitutional impediments to President Donald Trump’s ability to govern.” “At the request of the Manhattan DA, Judge Merchan has now stayed all previously scheduled deadlines, including sentencing in this case,” Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement. “The American people have reelected President Donald Trump with an overwhelming mandate to Make America Great Again. It is now abundantly clear that Americans want an immediate end to the weaponization of our justice system, including this case, which should have never been filed, so we can, as President Donald Trump said in his historic victory speech, unify our country and work together for the betterment of our nation.” In Trump’s federal election-interference case, the judge also granted special counsel Jack Smith’s request to pause pending deadlines. Multiple reports indicate the Department of Justice is already considering how to wind down its cases against Trump as he gets ready to take office on Jan. 20. Justice Department policy prevents the criminal prosecution of sitting presidents.
