Indiana Man Convicted Of Killing Two Teenage Girls

An Indiana man has been found guilty of killing two teenage girls near a hiking trail in Delphi back in 2017 in a case that gained national attention. Richard Allen, 50, was found guilty Monday on two counts of murder and two counts of felony murder in the killing of 13-year-old Abby Williams and 14-year-old Libby German, CNN reported. The jury spent 19 hours deliberating across three days before coming to the decision. “Regardless of what the verdict is, people aren’t going to be happy,” said Special Judge Frances Gull before reading the verdict, WTHR reported. Allen faces up to 130 years in prison for the murders and remained emotionless while the verdict was read before being comforted by his attorneys. A gag order was placed on the case, so attorneys cannot speak about it until after Allen’s sentencing on December 20. Allen’s attorney did not respond to a Daily Wire inquiry about his likely appeal. Libby’s grandmother, Becky Patty, cried and hugged family members as she left the courthouse. Outside, people reportedly cheered the verdict while others showed support for Allen, who many believe did not receive a fair trial and may be innocent. Allen’s wife, Kathy, told WTHR that the legal case “isn’t over at all.” Carroll County Prosecutor Nick McLeland, in his opening and closing statements, alleged that Allen is the man seen in a video taken by Libby telling the girls to go “down the hill.” The video was recorded as the girls crossed the Monon High Bridge. Their bodies were found nearby the day after they went missing. “I believe the evidence is firmly convincing that Richard Allen is ‘Bridge Guy,’ and he killed Abby and Libby,” McLeland told jurors, WTHR reported. The prosecution also pointed to confessions Allen made while in jail, though his defense attorneys have long claimed those confessions can’t be trusted because of Allen’s failing mental health. Defense attorney Brad Rozzi used his closing statements to point out the issues with the prosecution’s case, including the lack of DNA or weapons evidence tying Allen to the crime, as well as a timeline he says doesn’t line up. “The defense trusts what you’ve heard over the past several weeks is more important than what you’re hearing today,” Rozzi said. MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ NOW STREAMING ON DAILYWIRE+ Defense attorney Andrew Baldwin previously argued that the state’s investigation was botched and that cell phone evidence shows Allen couldn’t have been the one to kill the girls. Baldwin said the prosecution claimed the girls were killed by 4 p.m. on February 13, 2017, and their bodies were not moved prior to their discovery the next day. Allen, who admitted to being on the trail the day the girls were killed, left the area by 2:15 p.m., according to his legal team, citing phone records. The prosecution also claimed an unspent bullet found at the crime scene came from Allen’s gun, but the round is commonly used by law enforcement, and no officer’s gun was tested in connection to the case. The idea that a mass-produced bullet cycled through a mass-produced gun could create a unique marking is also suspect, according to Stephen Gutowski, a certified firearms instructor and reporter who founded The Reload. “The forensic techniques used by crime labs to match specific guns to specific bullets have come under heavy scrutiny in recent years,” Gutowski told The Daily Wire in 2022. “So, I think it’s important to examine claims like this with a healthy dose of skepticism. The idea you could match a mark on the rim of a casing to a specific gun’s extractor seems dubious to me.” The case was also plagued by drama behind closed doors, with accusations of impropriety flying from both sides, as well as at and from the judge.

Trump Advisor Lays Down The Law For Panicked DOJ Employees: If You Plan To ‘Resist,’ Get Out Now

Attorney Mark Paoletta warned employees within the Justice Department that they needed to be ready to help President-elect Donald Trump implement his lawful agenda come January 20, 2025 — or they should start packing up their desks. Paoletta, who served as General Counsel for the Office of Management and Budget during the first Trump administration, responded on Monday to a POLITICO article that suggested lawyers working within the DOJ were “terrified” of what to expect from Trump, who blames the DOJ under President Joe Biden for engaging in political prosecution. From the article: Some career attorneys at DOJ are already considering heading for the exits rather than sticking around to find out whether threats from Trump and his allies are real or campaign bluster. Paoletta minced no words in his response, shared via X, explaining that Trump had been elected to implement the agenda he promised from the campaign trail and, provided his agenda was within the laws of the United States, it was the responsibility of those serving in the federal government to aid him as he did so. Paoletta went on to list a series of agenda items on which employees within the DOJ would be expected to assist. Securing the southern border, mass deportations of illegal aliens (beginning with rapists and murderers), surging resources to process immigration/asylum claims to clear out backlog and end widespread abuse of the asylum system, ending automatic citizenship for children of illegal aliens, and taking federal actions to prevent sanctuary cities from obstructing federal immigration enforcement. Restoring law and order across our country, including rescuing our cities from mob violence and left-wing soft on crime prosecutors, Immediately stopping the lawfare and persecution of political opponents that is unprecedented in American history and destroying our democracy. Granting pardons or commutations to January 6th defendants and other defendants who have been subjected to politically-driven lawfare prosecutions and sentences. Abolishing DEI in government and taking action against those companies and universities that engage in racial discrimination. Protecting Americans’ right to speech, religion, and the Second Amendment. Protecting religious liberties, including investigating and prosecuting the horrific antisemitism ripping through this country. Protecting parents’ rights from irreparable transgender surgeries and procedures on minor children, and investigating those who have pushed this on minor children. Paving the way for an energy boom and American Energy Golden Age. Holding accountable those who weaponized their government authority to abuse Americans. “These are all positions President Trump campaigned on and that career DOJ lawyers may be working on to accomplish President Trump’s lawful agenda that was approved by a landslide vote of the American People,” Paoletta continued, pointing out the fact that it was not within the job description of career DOJ employees to set the agenda moving forward, and it was their responsibility to assist in implementing the agenda of the President. MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ NOW STREAMING ON DAILYWIRE+ Paoletta went on to note that they would certainly be allowed to give feedback, but they should understand that the ultimate decision would not be theirs. “Of course, no one will push them to implement flagrantly illegal actions like President Biden did with his student loan plan, where he thumbed his nose at the Supreme Court’s ruling and then tried to implement another illegal plan which was struck down,” Paoletta continued. “(In fact, the media was cheering on his law-breaking). I don’t recall reading any stories about career attorneys being concerned about working on this blatantly illegal action.” “If these career DOJ employees won’t implement President Trump’s program in good faith, they should leave,” he concluded. “Those employees who engage in so-called ‘resistance’ against the duly-elected President’s lawful agenda would be subverting American democracy. Finally, those that take such actions would be subject to disciplinary measures, including termination.” President Trump was elected by the American people to carry out his agenda, which includes: Securing the southern border, mass deportations of illegal aliens (beginning with rapists and murderers), surging resources to process immigration/asylum claims to clear out backlog and… https://t.co/n7yeUvRM2H — Mark Paoletta (@MarkPaoletta) November 11, 2024

Judge Delays Decision On Trump’s Immunity In Hush Money Case

Judge Delays Decision On Trump’s Immunity In Hush Money Case

A New York judge has pushed back a decision on whether to dismiss President-elect Donald Trump’s hush money case now that he is set for his second presidential term. Judge Juan Merchan has set a date of November 19 to consider whether the case against Trump should be dismissed because of presidential immunity, which was defined by the Supreme Court earlier this year. The delay will give prosecutors time to respond to the Trump team’s argument that the case against the president-elect should be dismissed, according to The Hill. “The stay, and dismissal, are necessary to avoid unconstitutional impediments to President Trump’s ability to govern,” Trump attorney Emil Bove said in an email to Merchan.  The Trump team found some common ground with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, which said that the arguments raised in light of the election “require careful consideration.” “The People agree that these are unprecedented circumstances and that the arguments raised by defense counsel in correspondence to the People on Friday require careful consideration to ensure that any further steps in this proceeding appropriately balance the competing interests of (1) a jury verdict of guilt following trial that has the presumption of regularity; and (2) the Office of the President,” prosecutor Matthew Colangelo wrote to Merchan, according to NBC News. MATT WALSH’S ‘AM I RACIST?’ NOW STREAMING ON DAILYWIRE+ “Accordingly, the People respectfully request that the Court adjourn the upcoming scheduled dates to afford the People time to assess these recent developments, and set November 19. 2024 as a deadline for the People to advise the Court regarding our view of appropriate steps,” he added. Trump’s sentencing in the case has been scheduled for November 26. Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in relation to a hush money payment made to Stephanie Clifford, better known by her stage name, Stormy Daniels, for her career in pornography. The Supreme Court ruled in May that presidents are immune from prosecution in cases involving official acts that are part of a president’s “core constitutional powers.” Presidential immunity may not apply in cases outside of that, however. “The president enjoys no immunity for his unofficial acts, and not everything the president does is official. The president is not above the law,” Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the decision. “But Congress may not criminalize the president’s conduct in carrying out the responsibilities of the Executive Branch under the Constitution.”

Happy Capybaras Munch On Hay-Filled Toy In Silly Video

If you’re having a rough day, why not unwind with these capybaras at playtime? Pine Meadow Farm shared the most adorable video of their fuzzy friends enjoying a Jolly Ball from Horsemen’s Pride. This interactive toy was filled with hay, which meant that these critters had to work for their snack. Not only did the animals love their tasty treat, but they also had fun eating it! In the clip, two capybaras shared a Jolly Ball stuffed with hay. They looked totally blissful as they ripped chunks of dried grass out of the toy to crunch on. Each bite sent the ball bouncing or rolling away so that the creatures had to chase after it. Good food and good exercise — what’s not to like? One person especially loved hearing their gentle chewing noises. “Best ASMR!” they wrote. Another user added, “Love to see them both just munching away.” Even Horsemen’s Pride, the company that sent the farm a Jolly Ball, chimed in. “Now this is what we needed to see today!” they said. This farm provides plenty of enrichment for their animals. Earlier, Pine Meadow Farms posted an unboxing video of all the interactive products that the brand had sent them. They received a variety of fun toys for all of their animals, not just the capybaras! After opening the package, the farmers decided to test out the items on their four-legged friends. Resident bulls, donkeys, and goats all seemed to love their new playthings! Watch the clip here. @pinemeadowfarm Thank you so much @horsemenspride! for the package our animals are enjoying them so much! #horse #horseenrichment #enrichment #horsetoys #jollyball ♬ som original – Renata Carvalho Just like food and water, animals need enrichment in order to thrive. According to The Livestock Project, creatures in captivity often require a little encouragement to engage in healthy behaviors that would come naturally to them in the wild. So, it’s important to provide them with toys and activities that promote these habits! It looks like the caregivers at Pine Meadow Farms are doing a great job keeping their capybaras and other animals occupied. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Click to Skip Ahead Tips for Getting Your Cat Used to a Harness How to Pick the Right Harness for Your Cat As creatures of habit, cats dislike change. Something as simple as moving their litter box can cause them to get anxious and start acting out. Now imagine how having to wear a harness feels, let alone being pushed to walk while attached to a leash. Most cats would freak out or at the very least, refuse to move. This doesn’t mean you can’t train a cat to walk on a harness, though, because you certainly can, and it’s worth a try! Harness training is a wonderful way to give your cat more freedom to explore the outside world. But before the adventures can start, you need to invest time in helping your cat get used to wearing one. Keep reading for 10 easy tips to do just that! Our 10 Tips for Getting Your Cat Used to a Harness 1. Introduce the Harness Slowly We mean slowly. Start by placing the harness near their favorite sleeping or play area, allowing them to explore and become familiar with it over a few days. This helps transform the harness from a foreign object to a familiar and non-threatening item in their environment. For example, if your cat loves sleeping in a specific corner or has a favorite toy, place the harness near these locations. Over time, you might find your cat sniffing or even playing with the harness, which indicates their curiosity and growing acceptance. Image Credit: Sergio Canovas, Shutterstock 2. Reward and Praise Them Positive reinforcement is key when helping your cat associate the harness with good things. Whenever they approach or investigate the harness, offer them treats and verbal praise. Gradually increase the level of interaction with the harness, such as touching it to your cat’s body or draping it over their back. Shower them with attention and yummy morsels every single time. It won’t be long before they think harness = awesome. 3. Practice Touching the Cat’s Body With the Harness Once your cat is desensitized to the harness’s presence, use it to touch different areas of their body, starting with the face, paws, and sides. Remember to pair the touching with a yummy treat. Take your time! Do not rush to put on the harness until your cat is perfectly comfortable with you touching them with it. Next, work on increasing the amount of time that you touch different areas of their body, such as for more than a couple of seconds, then proceed to practice putting on the harness. 4. Practice Putting on the Harness For this part, choose a quiet spot to keep your cat relaxed and comfortable. This is exactly the mindset you want, so they don’t fight the harness as you’re putting it on. Sit with them and let them sniff the harness again. Then slowly put the harness on, continuously praising and offering treats throughout the process. Remove the harness after a few seconds and repeat this exercise over several days to build positive associations with the harness. Image Credit: Katerina Dalemans, Shutterstock 5. Keep Sessions Short Avoid overwhelming your cat with lengthy harness training sessions. Begin with just a few minutes per day, and gradually increase the duration as they become more at ease with the harness. Always end training sessions on a positive note, whether it’s with a treat, pets, or a play session, to maintain your cat’s interest and motivation. 6. Let Them Wear the Harness Indoors Once your cat tolerates the harness, have them wear it around the house for short periods. Encourage your cat to engage in normal activities like playing, eating, and sleeping with the harness on to further strengthen positive associations. The goal is to render the harness “invisible,” a normal part of their routine. 7. Attach the Leash When your cat is comfortable wearing the harness indoors, start attaching the leash. Avoid pulling or tugging—let them explore and move around with the leash dragging behind them. This helps them get used to the extra weight and length of the leash. Only put on the leash for a few minutes at a time, with several practice sessions throughout the day. Stay in this stage for about a week. Taking your cat for a walk may sound challenging, but the right harness and leash can make all the difference! We recommend Hepper's Cat Harness & Leash Set because it combines important safety features with stylish and comfortable design elements. Hepper Cat Harness and Leash Escape Proof Set -... Practice Gentle Leash Control Once your cat is comfortable wearing both the harness and the leash, you can begin guiding them around the house. Hold the leash gently, avoiding any dragging or forcing them in any direction. Instead, use toys or treats to encourage your cat to move with you, helping them understand the concept of following your lead. 9. Transition to the Outdoors Begin taking your cat outside by starting in a quiet, enclosed outdoor space, such as a backyard or balcony. Hold the leash, and let your cat explore at their own pace, offering treats and praise to make the experience enjoyable. Image Credit: Teksa, Shutterstock 10. Gradually Increase Exposure Over time, slowly introduce your cat to busier outdoor environments. Stay close to them and keep initial outings short. Be patient and attentive to their needs, monitoring their body language and reactions. If they seem scared or stressed, return inside and try again another day. Again, don’t force them to stay on the leash longer than they like. Doing so can undo all your hard work! Let your cat dictate the pace, and respect their limits. How to Pick the Right Harness for Your Cat Don’t have a harness yet, or your current one doesn’t fit well? Follow these steps to pick out the perfect one. 1. Measure Your Cat An ill-fitting harness isn’t just uncomfortable for your cat. It can also be dangerous because if it’s too loose, they may be able to escape the harness. If it’s too tight, it can irritate their skin or even cause injuries. Don’t trust your best guess here! Get a tape measure for accuracy! Gently wrap it around your cat’s neck and chest, then note down the measurements. Be sure to measure snugly but not too tightly. If your cat is afraid of the measuring tape, try using a soft ribbon, and then measure the ribbon. You are free to use this image but we do require you to link back to Catster.com for credit 2. Pick the Harness Type There are different types of harnesses you can buy: vest, H-style, and figure-eight. Your choice will depend on what you plan to do with your cat. For instance, if your cat is an escape artist, an H-style harness with a figure-eight design will prevent them from slipping out. If you’re planning to take your cat for long walks or a hike, a vest harness with a padded chest plate can provide extra support and comfort. 3. Think About the Material The harness material will impact your cat’s comfort and safety. As an example, nylon and mesh are light and breathable, but leather is more durable. 4. Look For Safety Features The more safety features your cat’s harness has, the better. Look for things like reflective material or bright colors that will make your cat more visible to drivers and pedestrians, especially at night. A harness with a sturdy D-ring or buckle will prevent your cat from breaking free or escaping while on walks. Velcro straps will make it easier to take it on and off your cat, especially if yours is fussy.   Conclusion Getting your cat used to wearing a harness takes patience and work, but the results are so worth it! Imagine being able to take your buddy on hikes, on a walk along the neighborhood, or to the corner cafe so you two can relax outside. It can literally expand your cat’s world. Before you start training them, however, be careful about picking their harness. You want it to be comfy, secure, and packed with safety features. Don’t forget to buy tons of cat treats while you’re shopping for their harness. You’re going to need it!
